A good, basic log, I wished it had 6 sets per exercise

I use it instead of doing the same on a phone, much more convenient.

This gym book is foolproof. It’s so easy to use. The only downside and it’s a very minimal thing is that the paper for the pages is quite thin.

    Very simple concept, well implemented.
5 sets of each exercise (which is clearly better than 3!).
If you need a bit of structure or to see your progress to get you motivation back, this may work for you.

Tracking workouts is something I have always enjoyed. It wasnt until recently I decided that instead of hand writing everything in a normal note pad I would look into fitness logs. The layout of this is log is perfect and i’m happy with how it all looks. However, it has arrived slight damaged. There are a couple of dents from where ever it has been on the front cover and appears to have been a label stuck on the back that has been removed? so its all sticky and slightly worn.

Until now, after many years of ‘self training’ I have never used a journal or set program for my training & weight training routine.
I decided to give it ago, rather than my years of ad-hocness!
I feel refreshingly energised & competitive with myself now Easy to use ‘log’ that allows me to use the format of the pages, how I wish, rather than the regimented boxes that are contained.
My drive to improve reps & weight has come on so well, that, physically I feel different & after only 3-4 weeks of recording results & progress, I’m hoping come summer holiday time, I’ll be in my best shape fingers crossed!!

Recently purchased and happy with it. Good size, enough rows and columns for a long workout.

One suggestion..why is the reps column before the weight..when using, you set weight first then do reps..
Have to used to it..free crossed out boxes so far 🙂

Workout books make it incredibly easy to track progress. If you can form a routine of taking this book with you, you will definitely see an improvement. I tend to write the exercises in before hand and then complete the sets and reps in the gym. Book is of good quality and takes the wear and tear of living in my gym bag. My only improvement would be a thicker cover.

Its got a good front cover, clearly showing what it’s for. The inside pages are all the same as shown in the pictures. I’ve been using it for a week now and like to see what’s I’ve done in a visually appealing graph. The back page has a tracker you can complete, like body fat%, circumference measurements etc… So you can track over how many week you want to and see the results.

The only down side I would say is it could be sturdier and thicker (more pages) recommend it for gymers wanting to keep track.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersA great little book with no nonsense. Pages are laid out sensibly and it’s totally practical. The boxes are a little too small for a quick note in the gym but it’s A5, so what do you expect! Small price to pay for an easily portable format.

The only thing that annoys me is that the entire inside of the plastic from cover is taken up with details of how to review this product on amazon, which extremely annoys me because it could have been a quick reference chart of some kind to be useful. Also it’s tacky. At least put it on the inside back cover?!

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersIn my opinion, the pages are well laid out and logical, the “My progress” pages at the back are useful, although writing my 3 digit weight in the boxes was a bit tight. However, there are no superfluous fields or gimmicky pages in this book which is great and I like the handy notes section at the bottom of each page.
If I were to get another I would prefer a hard cover as it arrived a bit beaten on the corners and makes me wonder how it would fare in my gym bag. Also it would be great if there was some sort of pen or pencil slot. I have put the pen down the wire binding which may or may not work out, we’ll see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad value for what I paid for i

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have run several programmes in the past, mainly focusing around powerlifting, with an initial period of just general fitness and mass gain, and believe this log works well for both. This log has an excellent cookie cutter template for programmes such as Stronglifts 5×5 or ice cream fitness 5×5 due to its ease of use and easy to understand layout. The book outlines setting goals based on a session by session basis, allowing you to note down factors like overall tempo, and any additional notes; such as RPE, pre session nutrition, or overall feel of the session, which can be a great help when trying to identify key factors that may be limited or facilitating progress after the noob gains period has ended. There is plenty of room to list each exercise, especially in high volume splits such as push, pull, leg (PPL) or overall body part splits, with each exercise allowing you to record up to 5 sets in one line. For the most part 5 sets is normally enough for most programmes but those following very high volume templates; such as GVT, it may become annoying , although I found a quick way round this by just listing the same exercise in the below slot and continuing to track from there.

Due to 5 sets trying to be squeezed onto one sheet of A5 it can be difficult to list larger numbers, or common decimals in the small boxes given to list the weight of your exercise, which in turn makes looking at previous sessions a bit difficult from time to time, although those with smaller handwriting should have no issues at all. For most advanced training templates; and some beginner ones, there may be different focuses on the style of exercise e.g tempo/speed work, time under tension work, or basic strength work, in which it is important to distinguish between exercises styles to help log and track progress in certain areas/ organise your training schedule, this is something the log can do very well due to its generous room to list your exercises each session, which means you can easily write little notes underneath each exercise to outline minor details.
One minor flaw is the lack of being able to track wave based periodization to help with ease of session templates and set/rep/weight goals. Those following templates such as GZCL may be familiar with regularly changing estimated 1/2RM, in which every session has parts based around %1/2rm. There is no designated page to help track regularly changing goals such as these which can make planning a bit of a nuisance, possibly an extra couple of the pages at the back could help?

The log itself is made of high quality material and has so far survived being held loose in my gym bag, alongside lifting shoes, chalk, wraps, and other equipment, which seemed to have only made minor damage to the front cover; which is to be expected. It’s compact A5 size means it’s easy to throw in your gym bag, and carry around the gym with you, and can be a lot easier to makes detailed notes in compared to some smartphone apps available.

TL;DR – The book allows great tracking on a session by session basis, which is excellent for both experienced and new gym-goers, alike, those using very tailored training patterns e.g using conjugate periodization may need additional tools to help track long term goals and objectives, but this log gives a great way to measure and monitor your gym progress over time, I would highly recommend!
