Bought one of these for the pond, the previous owner had decommissioned the outside power. Did not expect too much, but so far have been delighted, it’s been six weeks now. Have to clear the filter occasionally but that is easy.
This fountain works well in sunlight and even when sun is not too bright. Its just right for my little pond as it doesn’t splash over the sides and gives a pleasant sound
Arrived on time. Basically took it out of presentation box, straight into pond, took about 30 seconds to respond, then fountain gave a very impressive spray, even though it wasn’t very Sunny that day.
Really easy to set up. Prompt delivery and works really well. Continues to work even once the sun has gone in foe some time . Really like it good selection of nozzles but I have gone for the one that keeps the most water i
Nice little solar fountain just perfect for a bird bath or a small patio pond. Easy to assemble with choice of fountain spouts.
Works very well while sun is on it, but not when sun moves over and pond is in shade.
Very happy with product on the whole.
Easy to put together even for a fuddy duddy like me. I thought it would need time for the battery to charge, but no! To my surprise as soon as I put it in a sunny spot and supplied enough water it produced the loveliest water spray I could imagine, especially on my sun baked balcony. The sound of the waterfall is divine. Definitely buying more for family and friends.
Arrived mid afternoon on a bright but hazy day in late May. We have a shady gardeb, but it immediately started with a perfect little fountain & was still going strong at 21.00 as the sun went down .
Exactly what I wanted.
This is perfect for my needs. Powerful and I love that it actually works on a cloudy day.
I have had solar fountains before and none of them matched this. They rented to trickle and loss charge quickly.
I would definitely recommend *****
Received these promptly. Unfortunately one of the housings had become detached in transit and had to be set in place with a waterproof glue. The fountain also on that one was a loose fit and had to be glued likewise. That said, they work as described with a good selection of heads.
Working straight out of the box! Lots of options for fountains.
Best buy this spring. Absolutely love it!
We weighted ours down with a fishing weight to stop its meandering around the pond.
Lovely range of fountain styles. I find the lowest nozzle/ fountain the best as the water doesn’t overflow and the level doesn’t go down. As we all know it needs bright sunshine to work, ensuring that the suns rays are on all of the panels. A low sunshine, as this time of the year, may not be covering all of the panels.. just so you know! It seems to be very well made.. the parts just slide together with a good fit, unlike some cheaper versions. Also I must add that the seller was most, most helpful
In previous years we’ve had various forms of solar powered fountain pump for our birdbath but they were a separate pump and a panel at the end of a cable. Both ended up with connecting cable being damaged. Also they weren’t backed by a rechargeable battery so as soon as the sun went behind a cloud the pump stopped. This unit is much better. It’s all in one piece so there’s no messy cables. The battery that keeps it going is great. It’s also far more powerful than those other options which can be a bit wishy washy. If anything it’s perhaps too efficient because it can have a habit (in a small breeze) of pumping the water so high it gets blown sideways out of the birdbath. It would help if there’d been some kind of regulator /volume control to tone it down a bit. But the sound of trickling water in the garden is always very soothing.
Now there is one issue with all these solar fountains when used in a birdbath and that is that pigeons, crows, starlings, blackbirds don’t only use it as a bath. To put it politely, they use it as a lavatory too. For all these pumps, that basically have the same kind of grid where the water goes in, it only takes a week or two before it begins to block because it is sucking in the “solids” that the birds leave in the birdbath. So you will have to be ready to clean things fairly regularly. Perhaps an old, unused toothbrush or something like that? A perfect design for this kind of pump would actually see the whole mechanism enclosed in a gauze metal cage so nothing can get close to the pump inlet. Maybe some manufacturer will have that idea one day?
Anyway this is best of several pumps we’ve tried over the years so I’d highly recommend it.
(oh and the birdbath we have is that very same green one they show in the demo video – one might argue that the pump is just a fraction too powerful for that size of birdbath)
Liked the way it got going as soon as I put it in my pond.
Easy to assemble and not very big but it stays pumping up water all day long. Will even work on cloudy days.
Needs an occasional clean , with debris clogging the fountain head.
Loads of different attachments as well but I just use one.
Remains to be seen how long will it las
Per my own, most birdbaths fountains collect debris. The supplier says to clean out the filter (it takes fifteen seconds) every couple of weeks, but because mine is a “ground-bath” it gathers more debris than usual, so I find it needs doing every 2-3 days. If you want the tallest spray, (on a good day, 18″) forget all the attachments but one. Use only the tiny cap that’s not much bigger than a pencil eraser. I’m quite satisfied.
This is a 3.5 watt unit. Anything less would be useless.
Worth the price.
It’s difficult to interpret the instructions – the English has been translated so is a bit idiosyncratic & the photographs showing you which spray head to use for which example of spray are far too small to be deciphered. I was fortunate – a friend had already bought one & could help me out with advice on the spray head. Also, I’d bought a deep urn to put it in & it floats around rather. I can’t work out how to tether it in the centre. Not that it really matters. Now that I’ve got it making a reasonable jet with a pleasant sound, it’s fine. I haven’t yet tried cleaning the pump, but my friend says it’s easier than the instructions make it sound.
One more thing – having chosen an assembly which I then wanted to change I found it quite difficult to separate the components. I did manage it eventually but was a little concerned in case I broke an essential part.
This works when it’s typical British dull sunshine – just perfect! Worth that bit extra money for battery backup! I’ve tried many of these and I’m purchasing another fir my pond and my first one is still working after almost 3 years! Of course you have to clean filter occasionally but I honestly Can’t fault it in any way.
This was just what I wanted for my small pond/water feature. Overall I’m very pleased with it, just two small issues. The holes in the nozzle head I was using kept getting blocked with ‘bits’ from the pond, and the fountain floated all over the place. In the end I removed the holed nozzle, so the water now gently burbles from the fountain (see video), which is quite soothing. Then I anchored the fountain by tying it to a submerged, upturned, terracotta pot. It works well and I’m happy….
I was impressed by how quickly this fountain worked after arrival. Put it in water and off it goes.
It took a while to work out the best type of bowl to use for good effect.
Lots of different nozzles to choose from.
It cuts out if the water level goes too low.
It looks pretty and sounds calming.
UPDATE:
One year later we now have 2 of these solar fountains, the first one is still going strong in a birdbath halfway down our garden, the new one is on the patio. We have found that a bowl circumference 50cm or larger contains the flow.
So easy to use – make sure you remove the protective film it arrives with. Choose a nozzle, pop it in water and off it goes. Ours run from dawn to dusk even in shade as long as there is enough water in the bowl.
ice little fountain, I only want it to keep the birdbath clear of algae which seems to be a big problem, but as well as keeping the water moving it provides a nice tranquil sound of the water splashing in to the bowl. I cannot use most of the attachments as they work too well – the water fountains up and the wind catches it and blows it out of the bowl so it constantly needs topping up, however using a low nozzle and not overfilling the bowl keeps the water height down and keeps it functioning nicely. The only problem I have had is removing the protective cover to clean the filter, it was positioned in a way that made it difficult to access, however once I managed to remove the cover I was able to turn the unit so it is now easy to reach.
Initially we bought this for our bird bath. It looked lovely, but the water spills out gradually and the fountain stops working. We tried banking up the sides with pebbles, but it still spilled out after about 1 hour. This meant we were constantly having to fill up the bath. A small wind, and the water goes over the side, regardless of which nozzle you use. I doubt if many bird baths are big enough to prevent this. We ended up buying a large diameter (55 cm) resin low planter to use with the fountain instead which works much better. We weighted it down with cable ties onto a brick, then covered with nice pebbles. See photos.
This is a lovely fun item BUT does not work well in all bird baths. A normal size bird bath does not have enough water depth for the fountain to work for prolonged periods of time. Some water is lost from the sides of the bird bath and also the depth of the bird bath is not enough to keep the fountain working for a long time. Also in the shade the fountain did not seem to work long enough suggesting that the battery is not working as efficiently as it should.
It is fun and I like it, its just that I cant keep it going as bird bath needs to be deepe
