High quality sunscreen that has double protection (physical and chemical)
Easy to apply and rub in and I like the fact it covers as a white screen first and then rubs in so I’m confident I’ve got good coverage
I’ve not shown any signs of sun burn since using it and assume skin is well protected from ageing etc
Highly recommend and this size bottle is amazing value (just decant to smaller bottle for convenience)
I was born during the time when sun protection was unheard of. Even though I have never been overseas or on a sunbed, in fact I dislike sitting in the sun, unfortunately because I am fair skinned and now in my 60’s, have now had multiple areas of non-melanoma skin cancer diagnosed both on my face and lower legs.
This is a very good price so have bought this to protect my arms when uncovered. (Legs are always covered.) It does not feel that good on my face, it pils a bit so I will continue to use La Roche Posay Anthelios XL for there.
This is a good quality sun protection factor 50. It does have a thick consistency so not ideal if you apply make up over your sun protection but great for day to day and the price is also good.
Brilliant sunscreen and also is lightly tinted which means that I use it as a foundation with a bit of powder and it is all I need. It takes away the redness and is lovely and light.
I have always used Ultrasun as I am fair and have sensitive skin and was worried that any other product would not give the necessary protection. I need not have worried – this does an excellent job. It absorbs well and does not make my skin greasy. I wear this every day even when it is not sunny just as a moisturiser.
Will only buy this Sunscreen from now on. I highly recommend this locally developed produc
This is one of if not the best sun cream out there. Been using it a couple of years now and it’s so easy to apply and most importantly it not greasy at all. Seriously good suncream
I bought this cream for my husband it is not greasy on the skin and it keeps the skin nice and soft and ladies could wear there makeup on top of it and the tube is a good size and good value for money and it was recommended to a friend by a dermatologis
I have to say I’m not one to sit out in the sun at all!! I keep out of the sun when I can. But I wanted to use some uv protection on my skin as you are always hearing these days that you need to include it in your daily regime. I read all about the product and its ingredients and also their charity involvement. This stuff is amazing!! It has a great consistency and light enough that I can put it on after my daily moisturiser. This product is very moisturising in itself though and I notice the difference in the skin on my arms and skin after only using for two days. As o said I’m not sunbathing so the application lasts more or less all day. Im not sure how it works but it definitely keeps my skin hydrated. And a little goes a long way. Very affordable too for such sn amazing product. I will never use anything else now!! Only thing I would say and it’s not a complaint at all!! You need to let it sink in a bit before you apply your foundation which is understandable. I have reduced the amount I use on my face now to compensate for this and my skin feels soft literally all day. I’m hoping that using this on a regular basis will reduce the amount of freckles I usually get when exposed to the sun.
This is an amazing product as it gives full protection but is not sticky or tacky and your hair doesn’t stick to your face unlike with other high factor sunscreens! You can put make up over it easily. It doesn’t leave a white mask effect either. Highly recommend.
I was looking for a sunscreen which was not too greasy feeling. Whilst this is not exactly completely non-greasy on application, it absorbs well and then feels like most ordinary moisturisers.
This cream is truly amazing, I have red patches under my eyes , after applying for first time, the red patches are barely visible, I would totally recommend this cream it does exactly what it says, you can wear on its own or as a base for ur foundation, the cover is phenomenal, I luv i
I have very fair Irish skin and used to get sun burnt very easily on my face but since using this suncream I haven’t got burnt once, not even new freckles! I’ve used it in Indonesia and Italy in the scorching sun and have had no issues with burning. I’m bad for remembering to re-apply suncream, but even if I just apply it once a day (I don’t recommend this) I don’t get burnt! I use a cheap suncream for my body and the noticeable difference is that my face hasn’t got a tan while using the cream, but my body does get some colour/burnt. I’ll take this over a sun damaged face any day though! Highly recommend this and I’m going to buy a second tube now <3
Much lighter than other SPFs, goes on easily and great for the kids who generally hate sun cream as it’s less sticky. I like the lack of scent as am sick of that commercial sun cream smell.
Highly recommended.
Consultant Dermatologist at the hospital told me about Altruist. So light, you can wear it under make up. Absorbs brilliantly, not sticky or greasy. I buy this again and again. Don’t buy any other type of sun scream now. Love the charitable aspect to this bust also. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This product is exactly what I was looking for. First photo without makeup second using this product as a primer and then applying foundation-what a difference! My only slight gripe is that it only comes in one shade and I’ll have to mix it with a lighter bb cream in the winter months as it’ll be a bit dark.
This is great stuff. The only facial sunscreen I’ve found that works both as sunscreen and a decent moisturiser. I am prone to very sensitive skin that over reacts to a lot of things, almost like rosacea, this is only sunscreen that doesn’t make it worse and actually helps soothe during a flare up. I bought the moisturiser as well and it’s also fantastic.
I’ve bought this for a few years now it’s greT value and protect ms the skin without fuss! I’ve got very sensitive skin and this product doesn’t bother it, it’s not sticky or visible, a great, good value sun screen!
We knew Dr Andy Birnie at university and are delighted to discover he has made this brilliant suncream. We would definitely recommend it as a family. We would like to suggest a name change though to Anti-burny by Andy Birnie which we like to call it in out house.
I am not sure if this really helps hydrate my face hut what I notice was it was too greasy on my face, maybe it’s my skin type really but I finished the whole tube. I apply powder on top of it when I was using it.
I was recommended this by my Dermatologist at the hospital. I have sun damage to my arms and legs from not wearing sun cream when younger and have to visit dermatology yearly for treatment. I started using in May this year and the protection is obvious. Usually with Factor 50 my arms flare up in sun but not with this cream. It’s not a cure but certainly helps. I can’t see me ever using anything else.
This is going to be my new go to suncream! Bought the bundle with the factor 50 spray and the 400ml factor 30 to take to Turkey! We were there during a heatwave where temps exceeded 45 degrees. My eldest daughter usually struggles with allergies to suncream and comes out in a rash but not with this. In that heat, none of us burned, it spreads easily and absorbs well! Plus we had loads left at the end of 11 days! Fabulous, highly recommend!
Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50 is a game-changer! As someone with sensitive skin, finding the perfect sunscreen has been a lifelong quest. But thanks to Dr. Andrew Birnie, my search is over. This sunscreen offers superior UVA protection, and its fast absorption leaves no sticky residue; it’s like applying a luxurious moisturizer. Knowing that it’s dermatologist-recommended and formulated in Germany gives me peace of mind. Plus, being fragrance-free with a low risk of allergy makes it perfect for daily use on my face, body, and even my children. The high-quality broad-spectrum protection with its 5-star Ultra UVA rating (PPD: 52) ensures I’m shielded from harmful rays all day long. What’s more incredible is that Altruist supports people with albinism in Africa, donating 10p from every product sold to charities. With such a noble mission and affordable price for two tubes, I feel great about protecting my skin while making a positive impact. Altruist is more than just sunscreen; it’s a beacon of care and compassion. Highly recommended!
I have always had very fair skin but even so, as a child and into my teens I could tan evenly. In my early 20’s, in Majorca I got what I thought was prickly heat on my upper arms and have gotten it again every summer for the past 15 years. Even just one mildly sunny day in Ireland I will get this heat rash. It is never itchy or painful but is very unsightly and takes months to disappear. There was a segment on This Morning a few years ago which suggested that this reaction wasn’t prickly heat but was an allergic reaction to UVA rays. I have spent the last few years trialling different sun protection lotions, all with 5 star UV protection but with no luck, It turns out, most on the market offer 5 star UVB protection, when what I needed was 5 star UVA protection. There was an article in the NY Times on the allergy to UVA rays, I found the article on it and promptly lost it, but between that article and the segment on This Morning, I have come to the conclusion that I do not get prickly heat, that I have an allergy to UVA rays.
I have trialled SEVERAL sun protection lotions, both pharmacy brand and high end. This Altruist protection is the first sun lotion in 15 years that has prevented a heat rash. I spent a week on the beach in Portugal in < 25 degree sun and nothing. No heat rash and no burn. I cannot recommend this enough. I bought a 30 factor cream and a 50 factor spray. I use them both. I prefer the spray just for ease of use. I wouldn't recommend either for your face if you are in any way sensitive. My eyes stream when I use it on my face. This is the first sun protection I have found that protects me from sunburn & from that awful rash. The synopsis on here tells us that the developers have created this with a view to prevent skin cancer and to benefit children with albinism, I thank them and wish them the very best in their future. If you are looking for a brilliant sun protection for you and your family, please buy this, it is unrivalled in my opinion. (And I've tried a lot).
I’m quite happy with the results. This product has proven to be effective in covering and minimizing redness on my skin, providing a noticeable improvement in its appearance.
One of the key strengths of this product is its ability to reduce redness. Upon application, I observed a visible reduction in redness, which significantly boosted my confidence. The formula feels lightweight and blends well into my skin, leaving a natural finish that doesn’t look heavy or cakey.
However, there is one aspect that needs attention—the longevity of the coverage. While the product initially covers redness remarkably well, I noticed that the effect tends to fade over time. It requires re-application after a few hours, especially if I’m looking for consistent coverage throughout the day. This can be a minor inconvenience, particularly when I’m on the go or have a busy schedule.
Despite this drawback, I would still recommend the Altruist Dermatologist Anti Redness and Pigmentation product to individuals who are seeking an effective solution for reducing redness and pigmentation. Its ability to provide visible results and minimize redness is commendable, making it a valuable addition to any skincare routine. With a little extra effort for re-application, this product can truly enhance your complexion and boost your confidence.
Overall, I rate the Altruist Dermatologist Anti Redness and Pigmentation product four out of five stars. It delivers on its promises and offers an impressive solution for covering and minimizing redness.
I have fair, sensitive skin that tends to burn easily under the sun, and I’ve been using Altruist Sunscreen for quite some time now. I must say, this sunscreen has worked wonders for me!
First and foremost, the formula is specifically designed to cater to those with sensitive skin, making it gentle and non-irritating. I appreciate how it doesn’t cause any stinging or discomfort upon application, unlike some other sunscreens I’ve tried in the past.
The SPF level in Altruist Sunscreen is impressive. It provides a high level of protection against harmful UV rays, effectively preventing sunburns and reducing the risk of long-term sun damage. This is especially important for individuals like me, who tend to burn easily.
What I love about this sunscreen is that it doesn’t leave any white cast on my skin. It blends in seamlessly and absorbs quickly, leaving a lightweight and non-greasy finish. This is perfect for daily use, as it doesn’t interfere with my makeup or leave any residue that could clog my pores.
Another great aspect of Altruist Sunscreen is its long-lasting effectiveness. I find that I don’t have to reapply it as frequently as some other sunscreens I’ve used. This is particularly beneficial for outdoor activities or beach trips, where constant reapplication may not be very convenient.
Furthermore, I greatly appreciate the commitment of Altruist Sunscreen to help those in need. For every purchase, a donation is made to support people with albinism in Africa, who are particularly vulnerable to skin cancer. It feels good knowing that by using this sunscreen, I am contributing to a good cause.
Overall, Altruist Sunscreen is a fantastic choice for those with fair and sensitive skin. It’s effective, gentle, and non-greasy, providing ample protection against the sun’s harmful rays. If you’re looking for a sunscreen that delivers on its promises and supports a meaningful cause, I highly recommend giving Altruist a try.
I cannot even tell you how many sun creams I’ve been through for my two year old son. It’s almost embarrassing. I had a clear out the other day and there must of been 8 or 9 different bottles just in one cupboard.
Firstly my son has multiple allergies and eczema so has very sensitive skin. Then there’s the fact most sun creams leave horrible yellow stains over clothes when creams come into contact with clothing. Then and the worst for me is the sticky texture of sun cream. I have some sensory issues myself and applying a cream that leaves my hands super sticky, or if I then touch my son and feeling his sticky skin was just really unnerving for me.
This sun cream was recommended by someone on a Facebook group I’m on for my sons allergies and I honestly cannot rate it enough!! Developed by a dermatologist so you know it’s made of the good stuff, rubs in until you cannot feel it at ALL, causes no irritation of his skin and doesn’t stain my little ones clothes?! Absolute game changer.
Also doesn’t not contain any type of nut oil which some do.
Not to mention you get two bottles and they are nicely sized to fit in the side of my toddlers back pack rather than a big bulky bottle.
Fab item, recommend to everyone I know.
For years I’ve been looking for a good sun cream. I have very fair skin that burns easily and in my youth I had a horrific sunburn (a waterpark at a high altitude!!!) that nearly hospitalised me. Since then, I’ve been incredibly careful about applying sun cream and wearing hats/protective clothing. I’ve tried just about every high-street brand of sun cream, and some fancy French imports with the hope that I can use it on my face and body at the same time. This is harder than you’d think because my skin is easily irritated in addition to being burnable. Most of the ones I’ve tried have stung on application, had a weird and unpleasant gritty texture, a rank smell — and worst of all, don’t work so well. They may keep me from being fried in the sun but they often make me freckly (which isn’t a slight against freckles – they are a further skin cancer risk for my complexion!). Thought I’d try this on a punt after reading other reviews. The fact that it was formulated by a dermatologist was a selling point, and other reviews seemed promising. THEY WERE RIGHT. This is wonderful sun cream. I put it on my face after serums and moisturisers but before minimal summer makeup, and just use it like I would a body lotion elsewhere. Its price point is great for two bottles – I keep one in my bag and one in the house, so there’s never a reason to be too far from it should a bit of sun appear. Even if you get a bit sweaty, your skin never feels as though it can’t breathe, and the longevity of the cream seems really robust. I would re-apply if out in the sun the entire day (I can’t manage that, I overheat too much), but no burn has yet occurred and I’m preaching its wonders to everyone who will listen (and people with kids – this would be great for children, too!). I’m so grateful for this cream, as I have historically spent less time in the sun because of my complexion and paranoia about skin cancer risks, and now I feel like I will be able to spend more time enjoying the sunny days on my own terms. Thank you so much for this wonderful product!
I was recommended Altruist by a friend last year, after asking if anyone could recommend a good high factor sunscreen that wasn’t sticky and I could use like a body lotion. I looked it up and was impressed by its credentials and that it donated money to children with albinism in Africa, but what also impressed me was the low price point for such a high quality SPF. We’ve now been using it for a year and I wouldn’t buy another brand – I honestly do not see why you would when this is SO good and ticks all the necessary boxes. It is fragrance free which I actually prefer now I’m in my 40s (doesn’t attract any insects!) but understand some people might like their SPF to smell of ‘holidays’.
I’ve even started using their face wash and other products as I’ve been so impressed with the SPF and would recommend those too.
Formulated by dermatologists and at such a great price point it really is a no brainer. It’s not at all sticky, it’s just like a body lotion.
My dad has just been given the all clear after being diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. He now uses Altruist every day without fail.
Don’t hesitate to buy this, you really have nothing to lose, it’s a fantastic product.
I LOVE this sunscreen.
I have dropped it a star and I shall tell thee why firstly it has amazing reviews so my honest star drop isn’t going to affect business and I care about this business! I’ve been buying this for years. BUT this isn’t as waterproof as I’d like, and on my holiday I had to choose a different spf50 for the pool. Now I know spf isn’t that effective in the pool, but my problem comes when I get out and reapply – if my bikini isn’t 100% dry, it will rub this off at the seams and I’m super pale, and I burn in those places. I don’t sunbathe to tan at all, I love to relax, under a shade, but I still burn, and the only way I can stop it is by getting out of the water, removing my bikini to dry it/myself, and apply spf. Then dressing when the bikini is dry not ideal.
This is a common issue with many spf’s but I think I’d give my 5* to one that is waterproof enough to withstand a little dampness from my bikini edges. I don’t know if it exists.
The best way for me I guess is to stay out of the sun 100%, or lay in some sort of full body UV suit.
I cannot use this on my face, it makes my eyes water, many spfs do this so this isn’t unusual. I have a dedicated face spf50.
Onto the not moany bit at all other times this spf is perfect for my body – I love that it’s moisturising, affordable and it does keep my very white sensitive skin safe in the sun. I take Carbamazepine for migraines and it makes me extra sensitive, I’ve burnt in the uk cloud so holidays to hot climates can cause some anxiety. I just got back for Cape Verde, I was stuck on the back of a pick up in 30+ degree direct sun, and wind, in the desert, parts of my skin exposed, panicking a little, because it was too rough/bumpy to reapply and I felt like I was frying. I’d applied this 2 hours earlier and knew I needed to top up it was some time before I topped up but at the end of the day I was still unburnt. This really is an amazing sunscreen. I spent 10 days closer to the equator than I’ve been in a long time and I’m still very white. Not a win for a lot of people, but for me I’m happy. I’ve had some serious burns in the past and know my skin cancer risk is higher, I’ve grown to love my skin.
On a side note the Altruist moisturiser is great! It’s the best skincare product I’ve found this year!
