Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIch bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Amazon Basics Fahrrad-Kettenschloss.

The chain and lock seems to be of good quality but only time and usage will tell. So far had no issue with it and it was easy to put new combo.

I bought it, as winter is coming, need to lock the bike in the cage. Easy to set up the passcode, sturdy and long enough to lock the tire and frame.

I was really worried about this lock because the reviews have a lot of people complaining about setting the code. It was super easy, just follow the instructions given. I set a custom code for the lock and it works fine. This should deter any opportunist from trying to take your bike.

It’s basic lock with a five digit combination. It’s quite heavy, so you may not want to carry it around with you on a push bike. The combination will stop people trying to do all the numbers, and the chain is sturdy enough to deter casual thieves. But that’s it.
I wouldn’t lock up anything too precious with it. Any thief worth their salt will have some bolt cutters in their bag and this won’t last long against them I suspect. To be fair, not that I’ve tried; but the description doesn’t make any claims other than ‘hardened steel’ and it’s nowhere near as thick or as heavy as the serious chain that looks after my motorcycle.
It’s good basic protection, but don’t trust it in dodgy areas – and make sure that you have used the chain around a sturdy part of the object you’re protecting.

I tried to open this lock without the combination by adding tension and then trying to find the binding wheel/number and I couldn’t do it!

I got this as I needed a bike lock but I also like to try to pick/open locks using methods I learn about online and I struggled to open this at all. The downside is I have set the combination randomly and I can’t open it! I will have to go through all the combinations to get it which is made harder as there are 5 wheels and not 4.

So I am the idiot who will tell you if you want good safety at a basic price, this lock is for you!

I have been using this lock on my bicycle for a few weeks now.
It comes with instructions on how to set the code to open and close it. This is a bit tricky to work out at first, as you have to turn the spindle until you hear a “click” before you can set your own PIN number.
Once you learn how to do it, it’s easy.
The lock is a sturdy looking bit of kit, and feels weighty in the hand.
The locking chain is covered with a thin sleeve of fabric to protect the bike frame.
It’s easy enough to use. So far I have had no problems with it, and the fabric sleeve has kept my bike free from dings and scratches.
Overall I would recommended it – but maybe just add to the instructions to make setting the number more straightforward.
    4 stars.

Good bike lock, does the job as required. Not very heavy duty but strong and decent quality. The steel chain has a durable nylon covering which offers protection against marking. The 5-digit lock seems additionally secure, it works easily and well and changing the code to your own is very quick and simple, just don’t forget it!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis lock is pretty good. I’m using this to secure my pushchair which is worth over 600.
It’s made really well. It has been well designed for easy use. Where you grasp it for opening has thumb grips. The dial is easy to twist around. I listened for the telltale sound some cheap code locks make when the correct number is selected.
The material outer is not water resistant so if it gets wet then it holds the water so it makes it extra heavy. Also it can’t be good for the metal chain inside. The material doesnt offer any security but it is helpful in protecting you paintwork of what you’re protecting. The soft nylon will prevent scratching and marksmanship.
In terms of strength the metal chain inside is pretty heavyweight. Bolt cropped will not be able to get through.
The weakest area of this is the dial area. It is encased in very tough ABS plastic. It would take a considerable amount of force to shatter this using a hammer. The physical lock has five individual knuckles which lock in under each number. They slot securely in with minimal leeway or give. Once closed there is a zlim gap that could fit a flat head screwdriver head in to Jimmy it open. But it would need a fair but of time and a very strong and robust screwdriver to proze it apart. No locks impenetrable.
My advice is this is a decent lock to use alongside a D lock if securing an expensive bicycle. D lock the frame and use this to secure the wheels. Do not use a cable lock for anything you want to keep. They take seconds to snap or bolt cropper. This is a bit more beefy.

This chain lock is longer, chunkier and more robust than I was expecting. The length of the chain including the lock is over a metre long. We had chosen it intending our eight-year-old son to use it at school, doing the typical thing of not really comprehending the scale of it from the photo! However, it’s actually pretty heavy so we’ll get him a smaller one and keep this for the grown ups bikes!

One of the big advantages is that the numerical lock is really easy to read and very easy to manipulate, so no peering at it in the fading light or looking for your glasses in order to unlock it! Overall a very secure and solid security chain which is highly recommended, just probably not for small kids!

This lock is a pretty sturdy chain based lock. I’m sure that means it’s not as secure as a D-lock, but it does make it easier to carry and also much easier to lock. Long enough to go comfortably through the frame and wheel and round a lamp post, this provides a good balance of cost, convenience and price. I wouldn’t use it as the primary lock for a very expensive bike, but for popping into town on a “regular” bike, it will stop someone just snipping the lock (as is possible with a cheap cable lock) and critically for our family, removes the risk that the kids will lose the keys!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is not a bicycle lock to carry around with you when cycling, this is the sort of lock you leave in one place as its seriously heavy.
The chain is very chunky and I like the fact its covered by a nylon material as this helps protect the paintwork of the bike.
The lock itself is a basic combination lock but it works well and feels very sturdy again. The combination is pre-set at “00000” but its very easy to set this to a combination of your own choosing.
I think this would deter all but the most determined of thieves.
If like me your bike is your pride and joy then a good lock like this is invaluable and this lock will get plenty of use giving me some added peace of mind.

Although this lock is labelled Amazon basics It has a feel of being a tough one and well made.
Quite heavy for its size. The chain itself is covered by a tough but soft material so that it doesnt scratch
Any paint work. You can input your own code. All numbers. So that the casual thief would have to
Use bolt cutters to remove the lock. Or spend a long time fiddling with it.
The rotating numbers, 5 of them are very easy to set as not to small even thin gloves could be worn.
The chain section long enough to place round the bike frame and a wheel when putting it round a post or static fixture. Black in colour. It feels big and chunky and should last for ages.
    Instructions included.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI do realise that this Amazonbasics 5-Digit Bike Lock, overall length just about 1 metre is essentially for use with bicycles but it has come in extremely useful for me to help safeguard my extending 3-piece ladders from misuse or theft.

My ladders are to big and bulky to fit comfortably in my garage so I keep them at the side of the house. To help prevent theft, this Amazonbasics combination lock securely holds my ladders to the wall and also wraps around the ladder rungs preventing the ladders being extended.

Maybe not the intended use but a cost-effective solution for me with regard to the ladders.

This combination lock seems very sturdy and the combination can be changed to suit the buyer. Although instructions are included to change the combination it is quite intuitive. The numbers on the lock are quite large and I certainly don’t need to wear my glasses to read them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extension Ladders

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis chain is described a basic but is a very good quality item. Robust, well made and totally encased in a very durable fabric which protects any surfaces it comes in conatct with. The length of it should just about be enough for a motorbike and is great for a pedal bike. It is also long enough to carry round neck/shoulder when cycling so no need to have a bag to carry it in.

The lock itself is brilliant being substantial size (fits in palm of hand) with really clear numbering, easy to follow instruction to set — if I can do it anyone can!)and the individual rollers are very easy to turn.

It’s actually quite versatile, it’s use not being restricted to bikes: use it to lock the garden gate, it could be used to lock around the ladders stored at the back of the shed. My sister has an electric bike so she is now using it, instead of the heavy, cumbersome one she usually uses.

A number of my family are avid bikers — motor, pedal, electric, and all think this is good value for money and would highly recommend.

I used this bike chain to attach 2 garden chairs together and to the wall to stop them getting stolen. Setting a new combination was easy. It’s well made, strong and looks to be heavy duty. Very happy

This is a really well made, strong and sturdy bike lock that is easy to use. The nylon fabric helps to protect the bicycle from scratching by the thick metal chain, and the chain itself. Great product.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersSeems solid, has five digits. Would buy again. Watch out – when instructions say “turn by 90 degrees to set code” , you need to turn it till you hear a click, at 91 degrees. Took me ten minutes to work that out.

I like this a lot – It is a good sized solid looking lock that is easy to use. The chunky chain has a nylon cover to stop it from chinking your paintwork. It has a very secure feel to it that will hopefully deter some theives. The 5 digit combination is easy to set and to change – it is a very simple system.

This is a reassuringly weighty bike lock. The links come in a hardwearing sleeve that will give good protection against scratches to your bike or wheel frame. The combination lock is easy to set and reset and the mechanism is slick and feels sturdy. The digits are easy to read too. All in all this bike chain is excellent value considering the materials used and provides good peace of mind for the money (and of course can be used for more than bikes!).

Simple yet effective, this chain is delivered in a basic brown box and is extremely easy to use. Turn the inside of the chain chamber 90degrees to change combination lock and rotate back again to set…it’s that simple (just make sure you rotate it fully otherwise it won’t set!). The chain itself is fairly weighty and covered so it won’t scratch your bike! Certainly enough of a chain to secure and deter would be thieves.

A heavy chain to secure the bike. Chunky, with some weight, it should put off all but a determined bike thief (altho I have see social media clips of thieves with grinders and bolt-cutters).
Long enough to run round the frame to the wheel but not enough to include a lamppost – so look for railings or bike rack.
The chain is in a sleeve, that prevents scratching.
Easy to change the combination (factory setting 0000). I recommend microdotting your bike as well as using the chain and having photos of it. I once had a bike stolen and found it difficult to describe to the Police Officer (and Oxford had hundreds of Lost and Found bikes at the time).
