Yes, it works and has been used all through summer. I’ve not put it away as often have back door open on a mild day and moths etc still come i
I’ve had this for 18 months and it’s good. I jump every time it zaps something and the dog hates it.
Please note that it does NOT take 2 20w bulbs as someone has suggested – it takes 2 10w bulbs. The ASPECTEK ones are not available but these ones work and are cheaper:-

fraxinus FSL BL T8 F10W Replacement Bulbs for Fly Killer, 13in UV Lamp Light Tube for 20W Insect Zapper/Bug Catcher/Mosquito Lamp (2pcs Per Pack)
My fly problem is over !!! Yyyaaayyy This thing practically saved my kitchen which has a sudden infestation during this summer. This beast devoured every single flying creature and it’s zap was very satisfying
I read the reviews for this many times before making purchase. Arrived, well packaged, read instructions and put on, within minutes it had blasted its first of many flies.
One bulb started to lose its colour which alerted me contact seller, took a couple of days but once they were satisfied they sent two bulbs quickly. Many thanks, much better the the spray
So we were having a bit of an issue with flies, it doesn’t take many to make things unbearable. Tried sprays which are gross so in the end decided to “splash out” on this fly killer. Well within 24 hours we were fly free. It definitely works best in a dark (ish) corner or in the evening when it is the brightest thing in the kitchen. However, all day we hear the “crack” of a dying insect. Beware it is a very loud noise and we both have been known to jump out of our skin when caught unexpectedly by it. However, when sitting in the lounge we just hear the “bang” and do a high five!!! Would recommend as long as you are OK with loud noises.
This product does work. However you may love or hate the loud popping noise it makes zapping a fly. Some people would find it satisfying while others a little depressing. The popping noise made us jump at first. You get used to it but make no mistake it can be loud.eough to make the cat do a runner. I give this product 5 stars because it works. Beware of noise though.
A fantastic way of zapping all the pesky biting flies from our kitchen. Makes a pretty loud sound when a mosquito gets zapped, we’ve grown to love it! One less bite for me! Would highly recommend it and would buy again in a heartbeat.
This is the best!
We’d tried everything to get rid of flies over the years. .. fly sprays , plug ins , sticky papers that look very unattractive.
It has been worth every penny. It does make you jump though when it comes into contact with a fly but satisfying!!
Very happy customer.
Waiting for that first crack having read the previous reviews… forgot about it after a while… then… craaaaaaaaaaaaaaack… nearly jumped out of my skin, my god this is not insect friendly, it literally explodes them into oblivion, we have had the most fly free summer season I can remember, when the flies start turning up in the house, just switch this bad boy on and before long they can’t resist the light and the satisfying crack comes, don’t like moths going in there but sadly it happens.
Overall for the money this has saved lots of annoying fly swatting in 2023!
The crack of electricity when it zapps a bug makes you jump out of your skin. (And scares the crap out of the dog!)
Blows the bugs to bits, so I don’t think they feel much!
Awesome bit of kit. Listening to flying creatures get zapped to dust makes this purchase so much more worth the money. Sturdy design, good kill ratio, got a bug problem, this is the solution.
Very effective at electrocuting flies and othe flying insects with an ear-splitting crack sound. The first fly killer delivered stopped working after 33 days (so just after the deadline for an Amazon refund) but the manufacturer replaced it and so far (fingers crossed) #2 is working well. Just noticed that it doesn’t necessarily kill the fly – it electrocutes it and in the case of the fly just now, it left it in agony and struggling to fly out. Managed to remove it and it lay stunned for a few seconds before recovering and flying away. Horrible to watch! Usually seems to kill them but I don’t often sit there watching it work!
I have it in my kitchen as can’t abide flys there.
It makes you jump as the noise is loud when it catches an insect, but that becomes a plus as another insect caught.
Easy to clean out.
Only thing to mention it tends to only stun large flys, but they tend to go back for more!
Great bit of kit if you don’t want to use chemicals.
Does the job I got to say suffer with flys in my room been killing all of them it does make a loud noise when it catches the flys so just got to get use to i
We had loads of flys this summer and I was getting really annoyed as I couldn’t open my doors and windows this works a treat ! It would be better if the lead was longer so I could put it on top of the kitchen cupboard as it doesn’t look fantastic but at least it does the job !!! Easy to clean too!
It makes a loud crack when it gets a fly! It has improved our meal times, we are no longer bugged by the flies at mealtimes. Only thing is it makes you jump when it goes off.
I feel there’s something slightly wrong with me as I like hearing it zap at night. We have a lot of flies on summer and it is keeping on top of them.
Be warned though… It’s loud and if you’re next to it when it goes off, you may be scraping yourself off the ceiling. We have it downstairs with the doors pulled to, and it’s still audible. Also, some of the flies are bounced away as they’re zapped, so you do have to clear nearby surfaces.
It is a bit noisy when anything gets zapped but it’s satisfying to know it’s getting all those horrible insects. Had to buy a second one in March as I left the first one on all the time and it lasted a year . Got replacement bulbs it recommended but they didn’t work so got the second one , unfortunately this one only lasted 5 months. Going to try one more time buying a 3rd as its a brilliant zapper and it’s half price. if this one doesn’t last then will buy a different zapper .
Works well but very loud for a home. Scares the pets (and the people at times).
Would still recommend – just not suitable for sensitive pets (or people).
Definitely less flies.
Value for money as it does the job!
Fast delivery, arrived in two days paid priority delivery, delivery driver and tracking was very accurate. We also appreciate the late hours delivery as our lounge opens at 4pm, so we didn’t miss accepting the delivery.
After hanging, within few minutes it already caught some insects, only downside is it’s a bit loud, sounds like firecrackers, gives a bit of fright (to staff & customers) when it’s doing its job. Nonetheless, does the job. Should be giving 5 stars if it wasn’t that loud.
Evilly satisfying. This summer we’ve had a plague of flies; the little sods that have dog fights under the ceiling lights. Fed up with my electric ‘fly bat’ thought we’d try one of these in the kitchen. There’s something disturbing about flies around the dogs bowl, so we installed this within a couple of feet to see what happens.. and waiting for it was a bit disappointing to start with. After a few minutes, we gave up watching and settled to watch telly. Crack! First victim and I needed a dry pair with the shock I got in the next room. What a satisfying noise! We rushed in to the kitchen expecting to find the corpse of a dragon and found the tiniest fly ever in the collection tray. It really sounds like a whip crack and has been raising evil grims now for a week with each victim. Highly recommended on the entertainment as well as hygiene front.
It does go off with a loud crack.I jump every time and there have been quite a few spillages when it’s gone off whilst I was pouring something. Small price to pay for getting rid of the pests .I’m sure I get used to it in time.
If I could buy a quieter one I would for perhaps an extra 10. At 40 delivered the next day though I am happy.
It’s about as loud as a hand clap!
This is one of the best items I have bought for ages .. and yes I am talking about a fly zapper.
Having worked in kitchens many years ago I wanted a decent fly zapper, not the usual home ones which seem like just a light but don’t really kill many flies. Delivered quickly and plugged in straight away. Wasn’t long and I heard a loud crack of the whip from the other room not knowing what it was. Went to investigate and realised it was the fly zapper. Yes it’s loud but very satisfying as I stand there willing a fly to head for the light of death. It’s killing so many I have to empty the tray every day. Left the kitchen window open the other evening and it was like a western shootout out there. I sit there in the lounge with an evil smile on my face every time I hear that crack
Does what it says on the box, you definitely know when a fly or any otherinsect hits the electric wiring, first time I heard it I thought if blown a fuse , Really excellent product and lights my kitchen up in a lovely blue tinge at night, If I’d needed another one I wouldn’t hesitate to buy, shame I don’t need another one.
Does exactly what it says. Takes a bit of getting use to, as sounds like a firework going off each time it zaps a fly. A bit of a faff trying to clean, which need to be done every couple of days. Would recommend
Unlike many of the other bug zappers available this plugs into the mains and is large enough to kill the biggest blue bottles and flies.
As others have commented, it really is a loud CRACK when a fly is helped along their personal timeline to ensure they vomited on their last bit of food. But I love this about it!
Wherever we are in the house a loud BZZZT means one of the little so and sos bought it and each time I mutter a little “YES!”.
The tray is easily removed to dispose of the fallen too.
It can be hung from a wall, but the wire would be an issue. Still, it has really helped reduce the unwanted influx of flies in the recent heat.
The clip I have added shows the results after a few hours but please be warned, if you have a dog who isn’t keen on loud noises or that scares easily, this may not be the product for you. When the flying insect hits the tubes there is a very loud snap noise when bigger flies/bluebottles hit they bounce off one tube and hit the other and you get a double snap. My dogs are a bit spooked by it (thankfully not distressed) but I’m hoping they get used to it or I’m going to have to learn to live with lots of pet flies.
It does work though as you can see
** update**. After using this for a few months I still love it and gladly the dog is now used to the noise.. still gets me sometimes though lol
It definitely does what is intended, but the zapping noise is extremely loud. I’ve jumped with fright when a fly lands on it, but the worst thing about it is how terrified my dog is when she hears the zapping noise & she runs & cowers from it. My dog is a German Shepherd, but it terrifies her. Although this item definitely does the job of killing flying insects, the noise & subsequent effects it has on my dog & myself, makes this item unsatisfactory for my home.
I first purchased this unit last summer for my parent’s home and I’ve always been impressed at the effectiveness of it. Just yesterday, I have bought another unit for my workplace, which during the summer months is burdened by the return of annoying flies which are attracted in because of the amount of plants we have in the office. Instead of the usual “shooo… go away” approach we all had used prior to this zapper unit, I was delighted to see the little pests absolutely incinerated and put to permanent rest. The rate of verbal abuse being flung across the room because of the annoyance of flies has significantly decreased and we can all now enjoy a peace-free zone with the added bonus of BBQ scented burnt-crisp flies.
There isn’t a noise out of this when it’s running but it sounds like glass cracking when it shocks the wee gits lol it’s really loud. The flies seem to have disappeared a little bit so will be interesting to see how it works when it heats up again. So far so good bar the loud shock.
Great at killing flies easy to remove dead flies as slide out tray. Only down side is the noise. Especially if not expecting it. It sounds like a whip crack. It went off just as I opened fridge door, I nearly pulled door handle off.
I have two of these. They work well. Better at night when there is no daylight and the flies go to the bulbs. Slower during the day since the flies aren’t always attracted. Kills the flies with a Big Bang and they explode which leaves bits everywhere. But they die. Very effective. Easy to replace the bulbs.
However, there is a very important and to be honest an idiotic design change. The first one I have has plastic clips that the grill fits into when changing bulbs. Works fine. The new one has changed this and the grills are kept into their channels by two springs. In the new one you pull the grill down, compressing the springs, take it out, and replace the bulbs. Great idea apart from one thing – the sprigs are not secure. So once you remove the grills the springs are free to move. If you turn the zapper upside down, for example to remove dead flies, then the springs drop down the channels and get lost in the upper casing. If you are lucky and notice this and have a screwdriver you can remove the top, find the springs and reseat them in their channels.
It is easy to fix, put a plug at the top of the channel to stop the spring from getting lost. But it’s Very, very silly and why the manufacturer didn’t close off the top of the channel to prevent this just defies belief. Anyway, if you do buy a new one (as stated the old ones have plastic clips so no issue) and you come to take the grills of and change the bulbs then DON’T turn it upside down or shake it, OR plug the tops of the channels. – a dab of araldite or similar will do it. Not complicated just frustrating lack of customer centric design.
Easy to fit, arrived well packaged and promptly. Light weight so it hangs on ceiling easily. Definatly makes you jump when the insects spark up. The zap noise is very loud. Had one for yearts til it died a death and it was never this loud. So works very well but dont have a seating area within 20 ft of it or you will spend the evening on constant ‘jump’ alert. We are in Scotland and so many, many large midgies enter whenever the door opens. So 20 zaps sounds like small fire crackers going off.
I’ve owned a few fly zappers over the years, and this one works well.
The lights are appropriately powerful. Placed right in front of a bright window, the glow of the tubes is still quite visible, which is great. Very cheap zappers use dim lights that don’t really attract flies, but that’s not the case here.
The electocution is also powerful – in fact it’s quite dramatic. Something the size of a housefly results in a loud “bang” – you would likely hear it from the next room. This isn’t a negative – if you want flies to actually be killed rather than stunned for an hour before they start flying round again then you need to accept it will be noisy.
The unit itself feels less substantial than it looks. I’m not sure if some of the panels are thin metal or plastic, but overall it feels a bit flimsier than all-metal (and admittedly more expensive) units I’ve owned in the past. I’m not confident that this would survive a drop to the floor, but it’s certainly robust enough for normal use and for the price it’s unreasonable to expect something more “industrial”.
As far as these things go, it’s not bad looking. I mean, it doesn’t look *good*, but it’s better than most.
My only criticism of the design is that it would be better to have just a touch more space between the bulbs and the electrocution grid. The gap is narrow enough that it’s possible for a large fly to get stuck between the two, whereupon it’s essentially burnt up by the grid. This only takes a few seconds, but it produces a surprising amount of smelly smoke. It has happened just once so it’s probably a bit of a fluke, and adding more space would of course require a deeper housing.
Bottom line: this works well and isn’t expensive. It was a good buy and I’ve no hesitation recommending it for home use. In an environment where this will potentially get knocked about, I’d spend a bit more and get a more robust housing, but if your plan is to leave this somewhere out of reach then it’s fine. I wouldn’t spend any less.
I bought one of these back in the Spring to put on a shadowy countertop in the corner of our kitchen. We seem to get a lot of fruit flies that gather in this area. Not anymore. This little beauty sorts them all out.
I was thankful for the buyer reviews for this product because it certainly influenced my purchasing decision. We no longer have problems with flies. As for comments about the lead being too short, I am not so sure. I have mine on a worktop and it plugs into the wall. There’s more lead on this product than the average electrical appliance, so unless you want to hang it from the ceiling and plug it in at floor level, then yes it could come up as too short. However, I like the convenience of having it at counter height. This means I can put it away when it’s no longer required. That said, I’ve not put it away for a long time. I just switch it on in the morning and turn it off when all the flies have gone.
A word on comments about the noise it makes when a fly gets drawn in and hits the electric fence. It makes a similar sound to an old-fashioned cap gun going off. just not as loud. Think of it as more of a loud Christmas cracker. At first, you might think it’s too noisy, and it certainly makes one jump when not expecting it to go off. Even the dog was flinching at it. You simply get used to it after a short while. The noise though is a small price to pay for fly-free living. Now, when it goes off, my wife gives me a wry smile as if to say “another one bites the dust.”
On the downside, I can’t find a link to buy some spare bulbs. That said, replacing the bulbs seems to be more than a bit of a faff than it’s worth given the price of this unit. Bulbs will set you back about 50% of the cost of a replacement unit. If I can find replacements when I need them I will certainly do so, but if not, I would not let that get in the way of buying another complete unit.
Open the box. Put it where you need it. Plug it in. Bye-bye flies.
Provided you are not a noise-sensitive person I would thoroughly recommend this product.
Update: A few people are still buying this product and suggesting it doesn’t work and are returning thier item. This is most probably because they have yet to find the optimum position for the best results. I am also thinking that they might be simply switching it on and expecting it to instantly attract and kill flies. This is what I did initially. When I realised it wasn’t going off very much even though there were tons of flies about – I moved it. After a while I finally found the best spot for it in my room. I use it in the kitchen and have it positioned in an area where we have previously been plauged by fruit flies. I’ve not seen one since. Another tip is to turn it on as early as possible and let it run until dusk. I have a dog and I like fresh air so my backdoor is often open all day. This brings flies into the kitchen, but the unit will eventually deal with the flies throughout the day. I then switch it off when it gets dark. While the unit comes with a chain to hang it someplace, I would not hang mine above the backdoor or some other place. I position mine at a 30 degree angle on the countertop so that flies are attracted to the black lights on both sides. If you want a fly free existence but are not thinking that this will clear a room in minutes, this is for you. If you want the latter then there’s always a can of Raid. Hope you find this update helpful.
Bought it purely based on another customer’s description outlining that it’s a little too loud. Admittedly this is the products only fault, humane solution to those mosquitoes. It’s been very wet weather lately. Unusually there have been a lot of mosquitoes or nats… I’m pleased to say I believe it’s just mosquitoes being caught so far. The cat has developed a healthy respect for this after chasing the one and only fly caught by it so far. It was shocking and was sizzling for several seconds. I half expected flames!!!
If you have a heart problem, I WOULD NOT recommend it, I still jump out of my skin every single time it goes off.
The pinhead size dots of desiccated bug are easily caught in the tray below. These just fall into the bin sraight off the white tray since they are completely dried out after a second or two of zapping. I feel uneased by my joy about this product, I wasn’t expecting to find it funny and as I’m writing I have to say I feel a small sense of guilt and shame. I’ve been known to rescue earthworms from accidental trampling more than once etc. However, I’m immune compromised and my insect bites don’t seem to heal easily, looks like one old bite that won’t heal could lead to cellulitis so this killing machine has unfortunately become a necessity to avoid more antibiotics or avoidable trips to the doctor. I’m hoping the useless misquoted nets we have up prevent any moth deaths.
Keep safe everyone. <3
It's a brilliant device, does exactly what it says.
The white catcher tray just lifts out, I empty mine every morning, so far the bugs fall off, no juicy mess or stuck on bits so far... it's been used almost every night for a week now. Yes, it's loud enough to wake you up.
So we live in a very rural area and have farmers fields all around us so flies were a very common occurrence and a massive pain in the backside. We had tried other cheaper products that claimed they could solve our issues but they were woefully inadequate.
I bought this unit as a last chance and took the gamble that as Amazons best seller it might be up to the job. Well……… how fantastic it is. Does the job in a way no other product has. We now have zero flies in the house but obviously they still get in but they don’t last long. I was watching yesterday as a fly landed on the outed grill and as I watched (to see exactly how the unit works) the fly took off and touched the energised grid. With a massive crack sound the fly literally vaporised in front of me. The fly would have known nothing about its fete and was dispatched in the most humane was possible. No suffering of the fly getting electrocuted over a period of seconds etc, it literally vanished in front of my eyes.
If you are of a nervous disposition you will take a day or two to get used to the very large cracking sound (just one crack per fly) that is made when one of these poor unsuspecting insects does get caught in the small grid that does the job. They do go off with quite a large sound. The unit itself makes zero noise at all.
If you’re looking for a device to rid your home, office or workplace of flies I would serious suggest getting one of these. We only got the 20w version I can’t imagine what the more powerful 30w unit does.
My only grip is the length of the cord. Just 3 feet long could be improved as we had to purchase an extension cord to place it where it needed to go. That is all I could recommend other than that we certainly would buy again but we don’t need to as our fly problem is totally under control now. 🙂
I bought this as our conservatory has a kitchen built into it, we live in the country and have tons of flies, wasps and vampire bugs that just like to annoy you.
I read a few reviews on this and thought I would give it a shot.
Item arrive quickly.
I wanted to fit it high in the roof on a brick ledge out of the way, the cable was only just long enough and I had to take the device apart to feed the cable behind a cupboard, easy to do, pain in the butt if you want to extend the lead, if you do want to extend the lead I would suggest buying an electricians rose for hiding under floorboards etc, just hack the plug off and attach that way, or just live with a short cable (Only advisable if you are safe with electrics, if not leave well alone)
I then sat mine on the cupboard, powered it on and stepped back.
5 seconds later CRACK!! Dead fly, Boom!! another, CRACK!! another
Within less than two minutes it had destroyed loads of bugs, some crack and explode, some sit there fizzing away smoking with a nice light show.
You get used to it after a while, but still makes me jump from time to time.
Will need to be hoovered quiet a bit, the amount of dead bodies lying around is amazing.
Certainly does a fantastic job.
BEWARE!! flies explode on contact and body parts do travel up to 5 meters lol
Wicked device, I rated 4 stars due to cable length.
Other than that is a CRACKING item, no buzzing from the electrodes or lamps, only buzzing from the doomed flies ha ha.
I kinda wanted to give this 4 stars but it wouldn’t be fair as my one single problem with it is it kills flies too loudly! It’s a flies equivalent to the electric chair! Come on, we’ve all seen the green mile, unless it goes in with a wet sponge on its head, it’s gonna go with a bang! And that, it does!! It makes my jump and I’ve been to Iraq and Afghanistan!!!
Anyway, the actual product looks nice, exactly like the pictures, it’s two sided so needs standing up on something, no hooks for wall mounting. Has two neon strip lights……. I don’t know why I’m describing it, there’s a picture of it at the top. It’s what it looks like!!! I’ll move on.
I went for the 20w as my neighbor is a rank sod and we get a ton of flies popping over the fence. We have them sticky strip things and they’re doing ok. But this unit is brilliant. Nothing survives and it gets way more than the sticky things. Out does them by 3-1 and we have 3 hanging up! We’ve put it on top of the fridge and it seems to get nearly all of the flies before they get to the front room.
Like I said at the top, when a flow goes in, it doesn’t half go off, and it honestly makes me jump. Even tiny flies make the same noise. Once we go bigger than a blue bottle tho, it goes nuts. It got a wasp the other day and it went on for about 30 seconds. Little bit of smoke and a horrible smell. But that’s the nature of the beast. It’s being electrocuted… it’s not pretty!! But most flies it’s one very quick, loud and reassuring zap!
I will say, I hate animal cruelty, I know they’re only flies but I hate seeing things suffer, I can tell you without a doubt, whatever flies into this won’t know anything about it. Even that wasp, he was well dead, he was still just a bit moist inside because of….. well…. nature I suppose. I’m not concerned that there’s any suffering going on as the unit is so well made.
Best thing I’ve had from amazon in a long long time!!
