A dice-rolling strategy game full of buns
SETTING UP NICE BUNS
To set up this tasty game, start by handing a plate to each customer. Then, put all buns inside the steamer bag and give it a good shake around. Next, take six buns at random and place them on the tray in the middle. Finally, each player must take two buns (make sure they’re different colours) and place them in front of them.
3 dice, 3 different actions
ROLL THE DICE
At the Nice Buns Buffet, each dice does something different. The small one tells you how many buns to take out of the bag (without peeking), the medium one lets you take buns from the tray in the middle and the big die lets you steal, trade and swap buns with the other diners around the table.
Grab some buns
MAKE A DEAL
Don’t forget! At this restaurant, you share everything with your neighbour—including your dice rolls. Each time you roll the dice, you’ll have to split them into two groups . After that, it’s time for the player on your left to choose which dice you’ll keep…and which ones they’ll take for themselves. Remember, the key to a happy time at the Nice Buns buffet is to be clever with your rolls and make your neighbour an offer they can’t refuse!
Collect 3 sets of 3 buns to win
DINNER IS READY
Whenever you collect a set of three matching buns, you can move them over your plate, keeping them safe from the other diners. The first player to collect three matching sets, wins! Enjoy!

Wanted some new party games and this looked fun so ordered this for New Years Eve and it arrived so quickly.
It took a while to go through the instructions and understand the game, but we learnt as we played and quickly got into it. It’s a good fun game that got competitive. It doesn’t go on for too long so you can play it quite a lot without getting bored. Love the branding and graphics of the game too.
Really enjoyed Nice Buns. Was quick and easy to learn. My box was already open when I received it, but everything was still as new inside.
Fantastic and strategic game for all the family with the game with an oriental food basis featuring cartoon baos, very unique. The game itself is nice quality and well presented. Fairly simple and quick to learn the game is all in the strategy developed and was enjoyed by all. The aim of the game is to simply collect sets of 3 bao but is not straightforward with potential setbacks and player tactics. Recommended for older children as well as adults but no reason why younger children can’t join in, teamed up with an adult.
Was 30 (at the time of ordering) but is currently 21 which i feel is more appropriately priced. The game design is neat and cheerful, i really like it and am pleased to own this.
Aim is to get your buns on your plate by matching 3 of the same colour together. But there’s a twist. The next player chooses how you will take you go based on the dice you roll.
Fun family game! We could only play it properly with 3+ players
This game was enjoyed by everyone over Christmas. It involves some strategy and thinking skills which make it interesting and more of a challenge. It is well made and presented.
This is a fun game revolving around trying to collect 3 sets of cute little buns on your plates but with strategy involved as with each roll of the dice it may involve stealing, swapping and taking more buns of different colours so you learn the best and cleverest things to do as you play more.
The game has 3 dice, each time you roll you split the dice into 2 groups, it could be 3 dice and 0, 2 dice and 1 etc and the player next to you picks which pile they want first, then you get what’s left. That’s another part of strategy as you may want to make sure you get the ‘steal’ dice roll to grab a bun you have your eye on to make up a set or you might want to take buns of a particular colour from the middle to make a set. Once you have a set they are locked on your plate and no one can steal them. All while trying to avoid the white fish head buns as they can mean you have to forfeit your largest group of buns back into the bag.
A fun game for all the family or for a games night, very original and well designed, recommended.
This was a gift that went down well, and I have played it since as well. A creative game, beautifully designed. Complex enough to warrant playing multiple times with getting bored, but simple enough to pick up (the instructions were helpful and clearly explained).
Loved this game. Easy to set up and get started. Simple rules so quick to grasp-my 10 year old was playing tactically by the second round. Kids and adults really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed playing nice buns. I love the design of the game – felt like it had captured quintessential Japanese elegance and style. Clearly a lot of time and thought had gone into it. We picked up the rules pretty quickly and the tactics soon followed. It seems fairly simple but we soon realised that there is a fair amount of skill involved! Love the fact you can watch a video rather than reading the instructions too. Only negative was that it could have been clearer as to whether you could swap or put back white buns. Would definitely recommend.
I got this for my friends and I to play together after a recommendation from a friend.
Super cute game, not too intense. Seemed a bit confusing at first but after we played the first round it made complete sense. Would recommend for sure!!
Big Potato Games always go down well with my family and this was no exception. Easy to learn, quick to play, and really fun. Would recommend!
A dice game for kids and adults you have to collect nine buns for victory but avoid the fish heads last for about 30 minutes a game which is about the right length of time
Big Potato Game – Nice Buns: My nephews loved this game as much for the name as the game itself. While it’s a reasonably easy to play dice game, it requires a bit of a master plan as you need to do deals with the player to your left, so a bit more interesting and creative. Definitely makes a great family game and while it can be played by 2, much better if there are more of you.
We played a few rounds in just over an hour so quick to play and holds the attention, the components are well made and instructions are easy to follow. I’d say it’s a little expensive at just under 30 (at time of review) but so nice to have a family game that gets kids away from their screens and interacting for a while.
Spent the night playing this with the family. Had great fun and many laughs learning and playing
We hold a family games night once a week and have been trying out a lot of big potato games recently. They are generally original, quirky and most importantly fun and this one is no exception.
The concept is pretty simple: collect three sets of matching buns before anyone else to win.
To setup, the buns are all added to the bag and mixed. Then players set up the shared buffet tray with six buns of any flavour but fish (grey). Finally, each players takes two random buns from the bag — but not fish flavoured.
To start, the active player rolls the three dice and separates them into two groups. The dice are all different and manipulate the game in different ways. These are resolved from smallest to largest so the groupings they are placed in has a big impact on who gets to do what, when. The smallest die allows a player to take X buns from the bag at random. The medium die allows a players to take one of two coloured buns from the buffet, the largest die allows players to steal, give or return buns to the bag. The player on the left then decides which of the two groups they will keep, and which the active player will keep. Dice are resolved in size order and then play passes to the left, following the same format.
The buns needed for victory come in four colours; green, blue, red and yellow. Once a player has a set of three buns on one flavour, they are immediately added to their plate and can no longer be touched by any player. However, should a grey bun be in a player’s area, it attaches to the largest available set they have and they cannot move that set to the plate. Also! Should any set hit four buns (even including a grey bun) they are all returned to the bag.
Nice Buns is a relatively short game which makes it ideal as a starter or middle point filler game of a games night. It’s out, it’s intense, it’s done. You’ll argue, plead, scheme and steal. All in order to collect the gorgeous little buns to net those sets.
We played it three or four times in the same session and it was really popular. Everyone enjoyed it and we will certainly be playing it again..
