Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had bought a cordless chainsaw, but the battery didn’t last long and I was too scared to get a proper chainsaw, so I was excited when I saw this corded saw. You do have to saw back and forth a little bit to get through thick wood, but it’s much faster than a hand saw and lasts until the job is done! I’ve only used it once, but I’m very happy with it so far.

Once my partner had put it together (in my view not that simple as the instructions were poor), it was easy to use. As long as you only need it for small / odd pieces of wood.

The only slight difficulty is working out how to insert and remove the blade. There are videos on You Tube which explain how. Take some time to watch them, and practice with the blade until you are comfortable. then you will be all set to use this powerful device which cuts like a charm.

Up to now I have used it to trim boughs on trees and bushes. The tool is very easy to use. It has better balance than some other designs of reciprocating saw that I have previously owned.

This was a replacement for a previous Black & Decker saw which developed a fault when the blade would not stay fitted in. I tried speaking to Black & Decker but was very disappointed with the response. I hope that this replacement will not develop the same problem.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersNeeded to thin out a tree by chopping some branches off and this cut through with ease. I then chopped the long branches into smaller pieces and got them in the bin. I’m a lady pensioner and live alone so try and do jobs myself when I can to save money. If you get the right tools it makes the job easier and this is certainly a great tool. I watched YouTube to see how to attach the blade as the diagram given doesn’t make it obvious. ALSO make sure you empty the box completely as the third saw is separately wrapped from the rest.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersIt took me a few moments to work out how to get the blade fitted (I ended up watching the quick video on the product description page on Amazon a couple of times, as I found the instructions that came with the saw itself a bit sparse), but after that there was no stopping me! Cut through the wood I was sawing like butter, with very little effort from myself. 10/10 would recommend – a great addition to my toolkit

Update: Still going strong, and I’ve now used it to break down several large unwanted pieces of furniture for easy disposal, including a wooden bed-frame, a 3-seater couch and an armchair. Enjoyed every minute of doing it as this saw made it so easy! Felt a bit like the guy in the film “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” while doing it, even though I’m a 54 year old woman 😀

Also very easy to find the spare saw blades for sale on Amazon, which is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing product!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is the second B&D Scorpion saw that I have purchased, the first one has lasted nearly 10 years and has finally worn out from excessive use. The new one works just as well, I’ve recently used it to make joints in seasoned oak sleepers for a landscaping project. The saw worked really well, it’s just a matter of taking your time and letting the saw do its job. Having cut over 20 joints the blade will probably need replacing if I want to cut any more oak – but that’s only to be expected. I thought the Amazon price offered great value for money and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a decent well priced DIY tool.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersJust wanted to leave the review on this because people have said it only comes with the two smaller blades. It does come with all three it’s inside a piece of cardboard. My partner was about to throw it away till he realised something else was in it. So yes it comes with all three just double check your packaging. Seems like it will do the job yet to try.

Once you’ve worked out how to get the blade in which is tricky (but you certainly don’t want it to be loose) this is a great machine. Can cause vibrations so don’t use it for too long.

This electric saw allowed me to tackle some Ivy that was getting out of control. It went through the many thicker stems with ease. I think it will come in handy for many such tasks in the coming years. It’s a superb addition to my home toolkit and I got it for 40 quid delivered. I’m very happy.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersGood panel saw blades.
Let the saw do the work and is quick and efficient.
Downside is there are only three blade types as supplied.
Pruning blades bought elsewhere don’t fit this saw, round hole in blade instead of oval.

Black and Decker could do with making more blade types for this saw.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this for one job only, to help remove the ivy from the walls & roof of my garage/workshop. When I say ivy I mean IVY: about 10 yards long with a wall about 12 feet high, then onto the roof…The thicker limbs were about 3 inches thick, then there’s the fact that it’s ivy, there was no room to work on most of it, so a reciprocating saw blade with a short throw was essential. Using a handsaw was hard work & frankly impossible from 6 feet up a ladder, at arm’s length. For 35 quid the Scorpion looked ideal, which it was. I bought a spare blade, but the original’s got loads of life left. Reading the reviews, I think most unfavourable ones are expecting too much, if you want a professional quality reciprocating saw, De Walt will happily separate you from several times the cost of one of these. If you don’t want mains power, for site work, again go pro-quality. If you want light weight, my OH has no problem using it, one handed up the ladder, the Scorpion’s for you. The biggest weakness appears to be the pin that locates the blade. Following the links that other reviewers have posted took me to a discount spares seller; the pin costs 1.99, the spring & e-clip that locate it cost the same, although they should be reusable…I’ve ordered them as spares.
Just be a bit sympathetic when using it & it’ll be fine: if what you really need is a pro-tool or a chainsaw [I’ve got a couple] get one.
Lastly, the only other tools we used on the ivy were a bit of rope & a pair of Draper Expert ratchet loppers with extending handles, both of which were as essential as the Scorpion.
    UPDATE, 10th July 2021:
Same tool, same blade[!] we’ve just used this to reduce our front hedge, mostly super tough Pyracanths, It’s gone through about 4metres in length, by 2 metres in depth [seriously over grown , in other words] cutting dozens of stems from 2.5 to 5cms plus, classic ‘overgrown hedge’ wood. We’ve taken about 1 metre off the height. We used a hedge trimmer to remove the greenery, on one side, then got into the big branches within, with the Scorpion. It took about an hour. Just one hour. We’d been quoted 100’s to get it done professionally. Two OAPs and the Scorpion, like a knife through butter, thanks B&D, couldn’t have done it without you!. I’.ve got a chainsaw, but this is precision cutting, exactly what we needed.
