I drilled 4mm pilot hole to locate the centre of the exit hole. I drilledinto the exit hole 10mm then went to the original hole and drilled through stopping the drill BEFORE withdrawing the drill bit. An almost perfect edged hole was the result. The quality of the drill bit is very good and made it easy to achieve a good result quickly.

It is a very good drill bit that I like a lot. Managed to make multiple deep holes into ivy chunks which should allow me to put some weedkiller down much more deeply. If the rain ever stops..

Bought this to drill water holes in a large oak whisky barrel.

Did it with ease, even if it did involve some effort to get through 2″ of solid English oak!

    Very pleased with it.

These drills are excellent but due to the thread on the tip they pull themselves through the wood so can be aggressive if you’re looking to do some delicate work.

If you just want to make a hole in wood and speed is important to you, you can’t get better than these!

Some of the review categories are a bit strange in my view so didnt score them. But overall, feels good quality for the price. Used for bird boxes, not sure what i will use it for going forward mind up! But my little lad wanted to build bird boxes so bird boxes we built!. It was still sharp after drilling out 2 boxes.

Forget all the ads for fancy multi toothed drill bits.

These are superb. They have a screw head that drives the tip of the drill into the wood as it cuts, so you get a fast cut, secure and accurate hole every time.

I wish I had these years ago.

Here’s a tip to make holes that are clean on both sides.

Drill a pilot hole with a small and normal drill bit through your material. Doesn’t have to be big, a small one is fine.

Use this drill bit on one side using the pilot hole as a guide. Don’t go all the way through.
Then when you are close to going through, turn it around and go through on the opposite side. Perfect hole every time. No splintering like you see in the pictures. They are just doing it wrong.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our Usersonly part way through my second hole did I realise how these work properly. I read the blurb and watched the videos but it needs to actually happen for you to understand it. The threaded tip has to bite into the wood and pull the bit through. This means it goes through the wood MUCH faster than a standard spade bit. however as it does this the side points engage – which is where the speed comes from – at this point a lot of torque is needed to keep it moving otherwise it jams. drilling through joists with the 30mm bit requires some force to get the thread to engage and then a lot of strength to hold the drill against the torque , particularly worse when also using a right angle adapter. hard to find the right balance of slow speed (control, not jamming, handle the torque) and just fast enough to pull through . But with the right torque and right speed and hold just the right amount of pressure, it was probably 10x faster than previously drilling the same distance through a joist with a “normal” spade bit.

don’t use them for anything other than wood. holes in plastic sheets or pipes, use something else.

Great spade bit. Self drilling, and good sharp design.

I used a 25mm bit I had, and it took forever to go through a 4 x 2 timber on the 2 inch depth side.
I’ve a 10mm version of this and know how good they are, which is why I went for the 24mm version.
It went through the 2 inch timber in seconds. Very neat hole, with a little bit of splintering on the exit side but I just reversed the cut, and drilled from the exit side.

    Perfect whole for running wiring.

Definitely recommend. Only draw back, but this isn’t one that affects some people, don’t get trigger happy. Slow and steady. Full whack will pull it through, maybe faster than you expected. Light pressure at the start to keep it true, then it’ll grab, and pull through with no effort from you, apart from keeping it true and watching what it is doing
