Works better than many. I have used many trimmers and most of them were Philips but this one is one of the best I ever had. You can trim your beard as much as you want by selecting settings.
BATTERY LIFE is also immaculate 100 mins is great at least 5 uses usually every 3/4 days on my good weeks ;P and TEH Detail trimmer is great for the parts in between soul patch, under adam apple (grows less there nowadays xD) fuzz above beard cheek lines, gives a clean look if done slowly defo moisturiZZZeee areas often for better i think i learn hard way for erryting
note: had some struggles at first with putting detail trimmer in after taking other one out- only CON atm for me, had since 9 August 22′!
Like the rest of the world I needed a hair cut in 2020 & 2021, but we were al locked down.
Gave these a try and really impressed, able to use very effectively after a few YouTube videos, and the trim depths are small enough for you to take very little off and not worry you’ll be bald after one swipe.
Battery life is great, they’re easy to hold even in smaller hands and highly recommend
I bought a Phillips beard trimmer a few years ago and I noticed the battery life wasn’t as good as it needs to be.
Now, I don’t know if my old trimmer was on the fritz or if beard trimmers just got better in the last few years. It might even be that my old one was just bad.
By comparison, this is very quiet and there’s definitely no tugging at beard hairs like the older one. It’s easy to set the desired length each time. The battery seems to last around two weeks.
I have three minor gripes;
1) It comes with a 2 pin plug. Great if you have one of those in your bathroom but, if not, you’re going to need an adaptor. My last one came with a standard 3-pin plug.
2) There are two attachments. One for 0.5mm (seriously, who is going down to 0.5mm? You may as well use a razor) to 10mm and one for 10mm to 20mm. This might mean you have to swap them around if you’re on the cusp. I’m not so it’s not a huge deal.
3) I feel like I paid extra for a razor I did not want. I’d prefer this just to be sold as a clipper only and knock a few quid off.
None of these things are enough to make me want to knock a star off.
I bought this as a replacement for my wahl trimmer. It’s a lot more easier to handle being smaller, but it does everything I want it to do. The different combs are easy to fit and stay put.
I had an older version of this that died after a few years, this one is excellent with a lithium ion battery that chargers faster and lasts longer.
Also the new twist to adjust trim length is very easy to use. Very nice product.
Whereas previous beard trimmers I have owned came with a pile of different sized trimming heads, this one has a fully height adjustable single head which saves clutter. Hence it is easy to use. Usual Braun good build qualiy. Easy to clean as well.
Battery lasts a while. This product does a great job even on a long beard. Very easy to use and the heads are very easy to change. I even used it to trim my hair round my ears during lockdown and thinned my hair out no problem.
Bought this after my phillips shaver broke on me in under a year . Quality is great , comes with attachments that work very well and shave nicely and especially for the price when it comes included with a gillette razor which is amazing . Overall would recommend for anyone to be honest .
I have bought more than a few trimmers in my time and I definitely think this is up there with best. Or at least in this sort of price range, you really don’t need to spend more.
Attachments are good, blade is great (don’t trim your balls though, it will cut them!), abttery good and I really like the feel of it in my hand. Recommended
I have used for both regular beard trimming and to give myself an impromptu hair cut, as a beard trimmer it is very good, battery life has been excellent, build quality is good and it has plenty of attachments. The adjustable trimmer is brilliant and easy to use. My only criticism is that the longest hair trimmer could have done with being longer, bit of a shock, but, hey hair grows out!
initially I was hesitant at buying this but I’m not disappointed one ounce. Easy to use, the different grades and the amount of grades is amazing. my only issue with this is the charging plug, it would of been more helpful to have a standard wall plug rather than the 2 pin.
I`ve been using this for about 3 months mainly for haircuts and have only charged it once when it arrived.
The cutting blade is narrower than a clipper but does the job very well.
Also used as a beard trimmer 2 or 3 times and it is definitely recommended.
I bought this to replace a similar model (5516) which seized I think due to water ingress. This model 5542. Looks very similar but has a much better battery which lasts an hour instead of 10 mins and charges much more quickly. The on off switch also a better design. Feels good to use. So far so good.
I’ve had a beard all my life, so have used quite a few different trimmers. In terms of charge time, battery life, lightness, ease of use, performance etc, this is by far the best. The clip on guard and clever dial setting gives a huge variety of cut lengths, from stubble upwards. Very sharp – a joy to use!
Overall happy with this as lots of adjustments to length via the wheel. Lasts a while and the advantage of this model is the quick-charge in under an hour. The only downside is the trimming attachment is not very good and I slightly struggle to get an even shave around tighter areas (e.g. under the nose) due to the size of clipper. But overall I am pleased with the product for the price paid.
Replaced my fifteen year old Babyliss face-wrecker with this when the battery no longer held charge as far as the bathroom.
I haven’t used all the attachments etc as I just mow my face on a weekly basis and shave afterwards. I haven’t recharged it as yet and it must be a month or so since I bought it. Can’t fault it yet.
Update: November 2022 and still excellent face pruning
This is perfect, it is light with just two easily changeable heads covering a range from 0.5 mm to 20mm using a rotary dial to select the precise clipping depth in 0.5mm increments. I like the very long battery life and short recharging time plus the fact that it can be used wired should it need to use it and you have forgotten to recharge it.
Has replaced a previous, well used Braun clipper that took an age to charge plus a separate edging clipper for trimming the edge of my moustache.
Fantastic beard trimmer. Really good for big and small breads, trimming the edges. Feels good to hold, good grip. Battery life is really good. I would say that I have a medium sized beard, I have tried a few trimmers and this is the best. I have a few other Braun tools so I am very fond of the brand. Braun = Quality & Satisfaction Guaranteed.
I am pretty happy with my first attempt. I normally have a No 8 , which is short back and sides, not too short. That seems to correspond to about a 20 mm setting on this clipper. Thats about the maximum setting you can find
As for technique, I just did what the barber normally does, standing in front of a very large mirror. So far so good. Haven’t tried the beard trimming yet, but that should be all good
