Enhanced the video range and the light from the infra red camera has given us peace of mind to a vulnerable area of our home….. added security ….. easy to install …… highly recommend.
The first look at ir illuminat is great but only time will tell, I do a lot of testing regarding product like this for price under a tenner is well made and does the job
Gives excellent illumination. I purchased these when the CCTV’s inbuilt IR lamps failed. I have one outside lighting the yard for the outdoor CCTV and one indoors. Both far exceed the illumination provided by the built in IR lamps when they were working.
Used to boot a Swann camera systems night time visibility. The lamps are well made. I did following advice from another review, sand some acrylic plastic (so it becomes opaque) so that the light becomes more diffused as out the box these provide a very focused light beam.
I purchased two JnDee 12V 1A 1 amp DC POWER Supply ADAPTERs to supply the lights.
What can I say about this lamp – Brilliant in what it does and brilliant in night vision!
I ended up buying two sets – with one set for spare – and I am using them to enhance the existing Infrared capability on my Canon XA20 night vision camcorder – just made up a bracket that fits on the underside of the camcorder – then fastened one of these lamps on either side of the lens and then connect up, using a ‘splitter’ cable, and plug into a Li-ion 6800mAh battery – which should last around 3 hours when fully charged.
Tested the unit in my back garden at night and the results were truly amazing – I thought that I would get to round halo’s from each lamp – but nothing of the sort – ideal for outside broadcast paranormal investigations!
hese lights make a big difference to our Garden videos of badgers etc, more than double the brightness of the camera light alone, seems like about 45-60 degree angle but since its invisible light its hard to tell. have a day night sensor but two of these with a PIR would be handy for the garden cameras. good value price for two lights
These little lights work perfect for enhancing IR light if your camera is not as good as it should be at night. Had a cheap camera that had good daylight performance but had very poor and noisy night vision, now its as good as the rest of the cameras that cost three times the price even with the cost of the light.
UPDATE : 12 July 2016. In response to a comment, I am uploading two photos. One shows the picture just using the camera’s built in LEDs and the other is with two of the BW Lamps turned on as well. The camera has tried to compensate for the different light levels but look at the shed in the background to see the difference. Also, although the JPGs do not show it very well, the background noise is significantly reduced with the additional lighting.]
[UPDATE : 29 Dec 2015. Both of these lamps have now been in daily use outdoors for 7 months and are still working perfectly. Original review follows]
I reviewed the single pack version of this lamp back in October 2014. To summarise what was quite a long review; I like these lamps and hence the reason why I have just bought a twin pack. They are not perfect but at 8.50 each, good value for money.
They work well with my Hikvision IP CCTV cameras and I have had one going for over 9 months without any problems. Like the LEDs in the camera, you can see a faint red glow in the dark so strictly speaking, I think they should be described as ‘Near Infra-red’. However for me, the main advantage of this lamp is that it allows me to switch off the Hikvision’s built in IR lights which stops the spiders from building their webs across the lens. Anyone who has used IR with fixed outdoor CCTV cameras will know what I am talking about. Unfortunately, this won’t help most Foscam CCTV users as switching off the internal IR LEDs puts the camera back into ‘daylight’ mode which enables the internal IR Cut filter making an external IR source almost useless.
The reason for the 4 stars is that there is absolutely no information provided with these lights, not even on the box. Although all you really have to do is plug them in to a suitable power supply, it would be useful if things like voltage and power ratings were given. So for the remainder of this review, I am going to try to fill in some of the missing information as best I can.
These lamps are provided without a power supply so you will have to factor that into your purchasing decision. They are designed to work with a 12v power supply and I measured the power consumption at 4.5W. This corresponds to a current of 0.375A (375mA). So I would recommend a 12V power supply rated at minimum of 0.4A (400mA) for each lamp.
The cable is 21 inches (53cm) long and terminated in a ‘female’ barrel connector which I think is 5.5mm/2.1mm. So, the cable will reach through a typical double skinned exterior house wall but there won’t be much slack left. It also uses the fairly standard ‘Centre Positive’ wiring. Most 12v CCTV power supplies should be compatible with this.
Overall, for distances up to about 10m with a width of up to 5m, in conjunction with CCTV, I find these lamps very effective. However if you want a proper IR flood light then you need to look around for something more substantial.
I needed to put some additional infra red lights under out caravan to video our hedgehogs as they visit the food every night.
I found these being advertised and the description fitted what I needed, so I ordered the pair.
They arrived within the time stated and were well packed.
I made up a bracket and power lead to plug in the caravan power socket, I was amazed how the camera image improved.
The video was also very good due to the extra ‘lighting’., they are very well made and only come on as it gets darker, an added bonus.
I would recommend these, as now they will be re-used to light for the CCTV cameras.
Thank you, Norma
