Very nicely done looks great and easy installation works great does the job well only used for copies in black and white paper not tried photo yet but very happy price good as well
I was slightly concerned by some of the reviews, particularly with regard to its compatibility with MacOS. Nothing to worry about – it works perfectly with Catalina, Monterey and Sonoma, across a range of machines, from 2014 MacBook Air, Mac Pro 6,1 and M2 MBA.
Received My scanner this morning set it up, really easy to set up, did a few tests scanned documents and pictures and for the price of the scanner it’s very good, Time will tell but I don’t think you would be wasting money on this scanner.
Simple plug n play scanner that enables quick quality scans. Also has good optical scanning that enables higher resolution scanning for those who need more.
The scanned can be used vertically as well as horizontally but I have not really found that useful myself.
Good value for the money!!
.. the software, remember to unlock it under the scanner body. I made this mistake and took me a time to realise what was stopping me connect. I had a previous Canon but the software became obsolete and I ran it on 3rd party software for some years until the licence expired. The LiDE 300 is inexpensive and does a really good job including photos.
This is the perfect flatbed scanner that I’ve been waiting years for! It’s easy to install, easy to use and has a wealth of features. I scanned 153 photographs in just under 40 minutes, which is amazing! The quality of the scanned images is excellent. I disagree with some of the comments made by other reviewers – I don’t find this scanner noisy at all. In fact, it’s considerably quieter than my previous scanner. This scanner is perfect for my needs and I am extremely happy with it. Thank you.
I bought the Canon scanner to go with a Canon printer I recently bought. Very simple to install and use. Simply connect to a laptop with the included USB cable and away you go!
Decided to mark it down one star as there doesn’t seem any way to connect to any other device than a laptop. Not a problem for me but worth bearing in mind before purchasing.
This is a great, low cost scanner. It is reasonably easy to use once you get used to not having to switch it on. It powers up when you plug the USB into your computer, lap top or tablet. Just select what you want it to do and off it goes. I found the picture quality surprisingly good for such a low cost item. Haven’t found any problems so far.
Replaced an old canon lide 20 and it is just the same to use, the software is very similar. It scans quickly and takes good images. I used it to scan in old photos and it did a good job.
I bought this exclusively for scanning in old photos and for 65, I am very happy with it.
It took me about 2 hours to scan 250 photos. I scanned two at a time at 600 dpi and the quality is fine for me. The software for this scanner will automatically separate and crop the photos, so by scanning two at a time, as long as you leave a gap between them, the scanner will create two separate images on your computer and they will be perfectly cropped and aligned – so you don’t need to keep them straight when putting them into the scanner. It takes about 30 seconds for the scanner to scan 2 photos at 600 dpi.
Once you play around with it to make sure you know what you’re doing and that you’re happy with the quality, it doesn’t take long to work through the photos and scan them all in.
The software (which can be downloaded) is pretty straightforward and easy to use. If you are on macOS, you don’t even need any drivers (not sure about Windows but they are all on the Canon website anyway).
The only thing I will say is that this scanner has a lock switch on the bottom – I’ve no idea what this is for (maybe to stop your kids from scanning stuff?) but it is important to put it to the unlocked position or the scanner won’t work. And if you unlock it whilst it’s already plugged into the computer, you will need to disconnect and reconnect it to the computer (i.e. unplug / plug in the USB cable) after you put the switch to unlock, otherwise your computer might not detect it.
This scanner also does not need any power source / plug socket, which is handy. It gets power from your computer (the USB cable is supplied).
Overall I am very happy with this scanner – it did exactly what I wanted it to do and it was pretty cheap.
Nice bit of kit for the price. Easy to set up and use. Only complaint is that you often get a PDF even when hitting the scan button. Maybe the buttons could be separated a bit more in future production.
I have limited space and don’t want office equipment everywhere, but find scanning on my phone awkward. This fits in a drawer along with my portable printer and is ideal for copying to laptop, copying g to printer and email attachments.
For our small family business, it’s great.
This Scanner produced good quality scans of the photographic prints I was scanning it is quick to scan,
and worked without problem with my Windows 11 Laptop using the Scan App. The only reason it does not get a five is because the feel and build feels quite cheap.
I bought this to replace an old Canon LiDE 25 scanner which has served faithfully for many years but only has Windows 7 drivers.
This one is a revelation by comparison – it scans pages as fast as I can load them, unlike the old one where I had to wait for a rather slow scan and the USB transfer to complete. This one the scan is extremely fast and the USB transfer seems instantaneous. Now I regret not buying it sooner for the time it would have saved me.
I use scanners mostly for document capture to PDF, this one makes it easy because one button adds extra pages to the PDF in progress and another button completes the PDF and writes the file. There’s no need to touch the computer to generate a bunch of multi-page PDF documents.
A super scanner which has made me realise just how bad my aging LIDE 300 was. Thoroughly recommended after a few blips trying to install it. Very good and easy to use.
I bought this for scanning my artwork. Honestly, it has been a lifesaver. Once you get it set up and everything installed, it becomes easier to use. I have only used it once so far, however I trust in its ability to deliver me a high quality scan every time.
I needed to replace an older scanner.
I’ve used canon scanners before so chose this one as it had all the features and resolution I needed.
It installs easily with windows 11.
The software is not the most intuative particularly when compared to the canon printers software. But it is pretty easy to get the hang of it.
The scan quality is the most important thing and the scans it produces cannot be faulted.
Colours are accurate and it can produce great results
This is my second lide 400 i got it to replace my first one that stopped working very good scanner but will not work on a windows 11 pc fine on windows 10 if anyone has a useable driver can you send me a link to its location plz
Packaged well, this is a small scanner which operates in exactly the same way as most others. There are options to copy, scan to PDF etc., but what it is lacking is a power button. However, it operates entirely from the USB port of the PC and has no external power supply, so maybe this is understandable as it will only draw power from the PC, so long as it is able.
Set up is a breeze, in Windows 10/11 just plug in to the PC and it will set itself up. It was ready to go immediately. Quick start guide looks useful for anyone unsure of the set up.
All good and scans exactly as expected.
I bought this scanner to scan documents and passports etc at home, I had to pay over the odds for is as they are out of stock everywhere except amazon which was double the price.
its advertised as a 4800 dpi scanner however the max dpi available in both windows fax and scan, and the downloadable Canon software was 600 dpi, plenty for me as my printer can only print in 600dpi anyway. Other reviews suggest higher DPI settings can be achieved in alternate operating systems.
The quality of the scans however is very good for both printed documents, hand written letters or photos.
The scanner software that is downloadable from Canon does have some nice features, such as turning the scans into text searchable PDF’s, this even worked for birth certificates and Thai language documents so I was quite impressed with that.
The scanner is very slim and lightweight which is why I ordered this particular model.
It is quite loud when scanning compared to more expensive devices I have used but as its not regularly used its not a problem for me.
The software installation went fine until I plugged the scanner into a USB2.0 port on my PC. Although the PC detected the scanner, the software did not. I then plugged the scanner into a USB3.0 port and the software detected it without a problem. Not sure why this happened. Did the USB2.0 port not provide enough current to make the scanner work properly? Your guess is as good as mine. The software supplied with the scanner is nothing special, but does the job. I concur with those who said they could not set the software to scan at maximum resolution. Tried everything but could not make it happen. To be honest, for what I want, I don’t actually need to scan at maximum resolution. If you do, I suggest you look for another scanner otherwise you will be pulling your hair out trying to get it to scan at maximum resolution. Apart from the resolution issue, the software is fairly intuitive and so reasonably easy to configure it to your needs. Having the buttons on the front of the scanner to launch the scanner in its various modes is particularly useful. Scan to PDF is particularly nice and allows you to produce multiple-page PDFs with ease. You can select the destination for the scanned documents independently for each user login on your PC. The scanner is quite noisy however. You can set a ‘quiet mode’ which reduces the noise at the expense of not running as fast. Not a big issue though. All-in-all I am very happy with my purchase.
For the sub 50 price tag (Jan 2021) this scanner is an absolute first choice option.
It runs on the power supplied from the USB cable, so there’s no need to find an extra plug socket (indeed, it has no power cord or socket to fit it into).
The specs are clearly listed, so there’s no real need to go over them again here, so I’ll just clear a few things up… Firstly, I’ll address the issue that so many seem to be having; the connection error message. Unfortunately, this is just the same old problem of people simply not reading the manual. The manual supplied with the scanner, is basically just a quick connection sheet. It’s really quick and simple to read through it, so please do so. You see, the scanner comes with a physical locking button on the underside, that locks /unlocks the scanning arm inside the scanner. This lock physically holds the internal scanning arm down to prevent damage during transit. By default it comes in the locked position, and if not slid into the unlocked position BEFORE plugging in the USB cable to your computer (which powers up the scanner), then you will get the connection error window. If the lock button is not pushed into the unlock position at all, you will also get a connection error message.
Follow the setup procedure in the quick connection guide, and everything will work fine. Basically it goes as follows:
1. Install driver/utils to your PC from the included CD
2. Slide the lock button to the unlock position.
3. Plug in the USB and connect it to your PC.
It really is that simple… All you have to remember, is that before you power up the scanner by plugging in the USB, you MUST have switched the locking button to the unlocked position… It won’t work if you power it up and then unlock it; you must unlock it first! I know, I’m repeating myself, but it’s important to do it in that order.
Once you have it up and running, the utilities that come with it, will take 10 minutes to go through and configure, but they are straight forward enough that you can do it without having to trawl through pages of instructions… Which are available through a Web page interface if you feel the need to use them.
The output is first rate, and the scanning is very fast indeed. The scanning options are simple, but also complete if you want to seriously configure the device to your specific requirements, rather than go with the out-of-the-box settings.
Don’t be put off by those claiming that it doesn’t work, the problem does not exist with the scanner – the problem lies closer to the user than the scanner.
Very nicely done looks great and easy installation works great does the job well only used for copies in black and white paper not tried photo yet but very happy price good as well
