I got this to use for storing video files that I download so I can watch them on my ancient TV downstairs, does the job & easily fits in an external case (see my other reviews).
The manufacturers name is good, the transfer speed is good, the capacity is good.
What else need saying?
Much faster now its fitted to my mid 2011 imac, easy to fit and is quieter too.
If running Microsoft Office 2011 you will need to reload the software agreement.
The fan that is fitted in your iMac will need to be controlled, you need to download some free software called MacsFanControl, easy to do
It appears that my old (10 yrs +) PC with hard disc drive was ‘Disc Bound’. Under advice I changed out the hard drive for this Solid State Disc drive and upgraded the memory. I’ve used Crucial before and it’s always given good service. The effect of this upgrade was surprisingly dramatic. Not only was it much faster but unexpectedly much more stable. Money well spent!
I bought this to put in my eufy security system base station. It was easy to install (although it didn’t come with any screws, and nor did the base station, so it was luck I had some!) and once formatted the system reports a 2TB capacity. As for performance, I don’t have any way to test it on the device it’s installed in, but there has certainly not been any slow down in performance since it was installed.
SSDs are only becoming cheaper so you may as well buy one now if you’re still using a HDD! I’ve had this for over a year now, bought it at 43 and its now 32. I switched from a very slow Samsung HDD and I regret not buying an SSD sooner. My bootup time at the time of writing is now 14 seconds, which isn’t fast by any means and I’m not sure how to push it further but I am completely fine with the speed of my PC right now. 500GB is enough for me as I don’t have many games or large videos on my PC, and I formatted 100GB to be kept free.
Looks solid have yet to install but will say I brought this thinking it was pure white but is just metal silver color but the photo shows white not a deal breaker but I was going for a full white PC as for price got it in the black Friday deal so happy
So I did a clean install from scratch – using an emergency backup USB drive to re-install windows.
Had to reinstall all software and files, but not a problem.
AND it does run much faster than before ! so exactly what I wanted. Here is hoping it lasts longer than the last SSD
Bought this to replace an old HDD in a family PC. Speed increase by comparison is obviously great and the cost per GB at time of purchase was also good. If you are bothered about extremely fast load times on games or applications you will likely want something a little faster or an NVMe if your machine supports it but as a general storage SSD this is great.
I really like this SSD, it is neat, small and was easily fitted to my old PC gaming laptop using an external USB adaptor cable. With it being self contained there have been zero problems with it being outside my laptop when in use. Has worked flawlessly with all my games on Steam. I have also used a second one with another PC port as I filled this one up, use both together as external drives. 10/10
Since my Samsung 2TB was on of the ‘bad batch’, and has done nothing but fail since, I bought this to replace it. Its been excellent.

What a difference this Crucial MX500GB SSD has made to my laptop. It starts up very fast, I have plenty of space with 500gb. I would definitely recommend this product.
Bought this to replace a dying old laptop hdd. After installing new memory, and installing this drive, has given me practically a new laptop. I cannot praise this drive enough, if you need an ssd, go for Crucial.
Upgraded a mac with this ssd. I grabbed it in an Amazon discount offer at the time. Good brand and a bit cheaper than Samsung evo ssd’s.
No problems cloning my OS to it and now running at a much faster speed than a clunky hdd.
I brought this to replace my existing hard drive my laptop is about 7 years old now and hass been running really slow. After a bit of researching I can up with the decision to replace the hard drive wanted to change it to an SSD and this has worked a treat its now about as quick as when I first brought it really happy. only giving it 4 star because I didn’t realise I needed a sata cable before hand
I have 3 of these 2TB SSDs in a RAID 5 configuration in my HP Z620, (you need to use 2.5 to 3.5in sata adapters, P/N 668261-001 for the blind fixing), and they just work silently and very speedily. The difference in noise, power consumption.heat generation, access time is worthwhile the extra cost compared to spinning platters – the price differential between SSDs and HDDs has really collapsed such that I would not now contemplate an HDD (unless we;re talking about 8TB+ storage requirements where HDDs still reign supreme.) I have used CRUCIAL SSDs (and RAM) for many years now, and have never had a problem, ie don’t be tempted to save a few quid by buying the cheaper unknown brands, stick to Crucial and Samsung.
I’m gradually replacing my spinners with SSD’s, I now have five of these MX500’s and (so far, after nearly three years) have never had any trouble with them. I especially like the built-in data protection features.
I’ve bought 2 of these now. There is something you should know before buying. You will need to connect these into an already working machine (I use an external drive reader) and go to your “partitions” in Windows (Windows key, type Partition and hit Enter). Then right click the unallocated drive space and assign a letter etc. for your PC to then be able to use the drive properly.
I have a dozen or so of these now, all being used in different applications. 4 in a server that runs 24/7 and 4 in a NAS that also runs 24/7. The server has been in use for a couple of years without issue and wear indicators still show 100% drive health.
Picked a 1TB unit up in the sale. Took about 10 mins in total (including a good clean out of the case) to install. Used the Crucial video guides to find out how to enable the drive once the PC was up and running again. Certainly does the job.
This is a big boy, easy to setup, stores all my data easily on my laptop. Crucial brand is consistently great value for money, this upgraded my 2tb and never had any problems with that.
This 1TB SSD was installed into a 2012 Mac Mini as a second drive. Works perfectly. Very happy with this purchase and cannot believe how the prices have come down over time.
Definitely go with the MX500 series over the BX500 series. I haven’t tried the latter, but I believe the MX series has some kind of caching or something which basically allows it to sustain high write speeds. I’ve got it in a Thinkpad T430 from 2014 so I’m probably not able to ‘stretch its legs’ so to speak, but large (multi GB) transfers from my Mavic Mini drone to the PC max out either the port or drone’s read speed indefinitely. Booting is quick, and never had any stutters. I can’t comment on gaming performance because I don’t (well, can’t because 3rd gen intel CPU with integrated graphics).
I’ve had the 1TB model in my laptop for 2+ years of my electronic engineering degree, I bought and fitted this 500GB one as an upgrade for my girlfriend, and it’s also been fine over the past 6 months or so.
Price-wise these seem pretty good too, although both times I believe I’ve managed to get them on offer/with a Birthday/Christmas gift voucher, so I might be slightly biased in that regard.
Also worth noting is the history of Crucial, or more specifically Micron, who have been making memory and storage since the late ’70s, and have also owned Lexar for a decade fairly recently.
Decided to upgrade my 2TD HD to a 2TB SSD. This was within my price range at the time.
Using a third party cloning software, I was able to clone about 0.8 TB of data in a few hours. Installation was standard like other SSDs.
I believe it comes with its own cloning software, but as I was using a trial of Macrium to upgrade my drives, I just stuck with that.

first things first,before purchasing I searched online for a video for my model lappy on how to get things apart (I have built several PCs, but apart from keyboard changes never played with laptops)… looked easy enough to install (it really was too) ……. So, I installed the Acronis clone software from Crucial, and connected the new drive via USB3 using the Ugreen USB – SATA cable (available on Amazon, can also do 3.5 drives too as has a power cable if required, but not needed for SSD)… note: the Crucial version of the software will not work unless you have a Crucial drive connected… it found the new drive, took a few minutes to set it up and successfully cloned my existing drive in about 30 minutes… Then following the afore mentioned instructions, I installed both the new RAM and drive to the machine, literally under 10 minutes later, battery back in and rebooting the machine…. boot time was greatly improved, as said before, not blisteringly fast due to other restrictions, but several minutes quicker than before, under 30 seconds for fully loaded…. no need for a new laptop, this old gal is perfectly usable for what I require now and programmes etc install a lot faster and have had none of my previous, freezing / lagging issues…… the only issue I had was that for some reason the sound device driver needed reinstalling, was on the drive but for some reason didn’t work…a 1 min job
I picked Crucial, because I have used their RAM in many applications before, with no issues, their Micron branded chips are used by other manufacturers (inc the WD blue 3D nand SSD) and they are priced quite reasonably…. possibly being one of the “best of the rest” after Samsung in the SSD market, obviously using the SATA 3 format, speed is restricted by the actual format itself, but some improvements can be made further by installing Crucials own SSD software, this has a function whereas the cache is used to speed things up even further, and allows you to monitor the health etc of the drive… One question remains though, and this one is for Toshiba, with the laptop having a SATA2 drive factory fitted, I was expecting speeds around the 250-280MB/s mark, as S2 tops out at 300 MB/s, so imagine my joy when testing immediately after install a test mark of 551MB/s read and 518 write… the motherboard is actually a SATA 3… so happy days..
here are the Seq Q32T1 speeds taken from crystaldiskmark, for the old HDD, the SSD and then the SSD using crucials Momentum Cache software
HDD read 105.4 MB/s – write 99.12 MB/s
SSD read 551.2 – write 518.4
MC read 1504.1 – write 1609.7
as you can see, speeds are greatly improved and the momentum cache software is pure witchcraft…. bottom line, with a little bit of knowledge, research and confidence you can breath new life into an ageing machine (Laptop or desktop) with great success for a lot less than a new machine, better still you can then just use your existing HDD as an external backup for photos / documents etc using the same cable you used to clone the original (wipe it first)
