I purchased this for the greenhouse at the end of 2021. It has worked fine every day since then. Easy to use, easy to read and I don’t think I’ve had to change the battery yet!
I use this to monitor the temperature in my greenhouse/shed following the recent frosts to see what protection is offered.
Easy to use, read and reset. Would recommend to gardeners/allotment holders.
I have tried several such brands of thermometer. These really are the best — readable, reasonably accurate, reliable. These are now the only ones I purchase.
I bought two of these, one has been in use in the greenhouse all year and works fine; the other I just opened to use by the back door over the Winter period. It looked like the box had been opened and taped back up, plus the battery had been installed, clearly a faulty return resold by Amazon.
I contacted the manufacturer and they were great and agreed to send me a new unit, excellent service.
This appeared to be a perfect thermometer for the new greenhouse. Clear screen, easy to set and read. But the battery ran out today. I have replaced the battery but the display remains blank. There doesn’t appear to be a reset button so I as it stands then item is useless . After 14 months of use.
Having contacted Brannan via their website I had a reply in 12 hrs offering a replacement. However I thought I’d just check one more time and low and behold it’s come back to life.
So thanks Brannon for your offer. Great service.
I have bought two of these one for my patio and one for my greenhouse both doing the job I need them to do
just what I need for my indoor and outdoor Bonsai plants.
Bought this to check accuracy of my Hive system and always see what the house goes down to at night. Nice product – wish it had a button to press to illuminate the readings – sometimes a little difficult to read – but overall, it’s good value.
I HAVE ONE IN EVERY ROOM TO CHECK ON THE CENTRAL HEATING RADIATOR CONTROLS THEY DO DIFFER SLIGHTLY WHEN 2 ARE TOGETHER AND GIVE A POINT OR 2 DIFFERENT READING BUT THIS IS NOT DETRIMENTAL TO MY USE AND MAY ONLY BE THESE 2 ITEMS. APART FROM THAT THEY ARE WORKING WELL AND I AM PLEASED WITH THEM. THE REAL TEST IS IF I DID NOT HAVE THEM WOULD I BUY AGAIN AND THE ANSWER TO THAT IS A BIG YES.
ONE OF THEM DID NOT TURN ON WHEN DELIVERED AND THEY REFUNDED ME THE COST, HOWEVER I WOULD HAVE PREFFERED A REPLACEMENT. JUST NIT PICKING.
Big numbers are clearly shown
It takes 2 AA batteries (easy to buy anywhere) which seem to last a very long time (had a couple for 10 months and both still on the original batteries)
Accurate and easy to reset the Max/Min reading by pressing a button at the side
Shows in C or F (you choose by pressing a button)
A simple device. No memory function but appears to work well and is easy to use. It is not waterproof so ensure unit is protected from getting wet.
I use this device to track temperature changes in my cold frame. I can see the digital display from my kitchen window. The thermometer is well made and easy to use. highly recommended.

Love this. I use it in my greenhouse to monitor the temperature and know when to open the windows and door. I didn’t realise how hot the greenhouse got at this time of year. Some days it’s hitting 40! Also it’s interesting to see how cold it gets overnight!
Ordered two of the Brennan thermometers, one for allotment shed, one for home greenhouse.
Well made, one screw fixing (used plastic bag for the outside allotment one to avoid risk of water ingress as recommended by a reviewer).
Easy to read, slightly easier if mounted above eye height (as is the way with lcd displays).
A good product, delivered promptly and good value.
I have used this for a few weeks now. It replaced a mechanical max/min thermometer which finally stopped working. This is much better. The large numbers are easy to read and it is simple to use. It shows the maximum, minimum and current temperatures and is reset by one press of a button.
I’ve had one of these thermometers for four years or more. It’s in my poly tunnel and sill works perfectly and accurately. I be read all the negative reviews and don’t understand what the detractors are on about.I’ve now got two enough said? Update may 2-21 It’s still working perfectly with the battery it was supplied with!
This is the second of these thermometers I have bought, the first is still going strong. They are easy to read and very simple to zero. My greenhouse has an overhead watering system and they are waterproof.
This is the 3rd max min thermometer that I have purchased recently. The other two were traditional glass types with small metal indicators to show max and min positions. However these always got stuck, and despite lots of shaking and the application of magnets, were never accurate.
This digital version is simple to read and appears so far to be 100% accurate. The battery compartment is well waterproofed, but I have installed it in a sheltered spot, just in case.. It was actually cheaper than the traditional ones too….. its a no brainer!
Perfectly good product for everyday use, very clear to read and reset. Not 100% convinced about accuracy but suspect it is normally with +/- 0.5C which is good enough. Would buy again.
This thermometer is easy to read and very accurate. I’ve used it in the greenhouse during the summer and now it’s in the conservatory monitoring the effectiveness of the central heating in that room.
It’s certainly not out of place wherever it sits and is so useful to know the max and min temperatures especially overnight.
Excellent value for money.
I purchased this to replace an ancient green one that used magnets to record the max & min temperatures. Having redecorated m conservatory i thought something more modern was appropriate. This fills the need perfectly being a known brand and not overly expensive. The only improvement i would suggest is to make it so that it would stand up on a surface.
Owned 2 greenhouses since early seventies and have gone through lots of the old style min/max liquid thermometers the 2 at present are broke so today my new digital one arrived, it will take at least 2 seasons to test it but I ordered a second one straight away because I need it and was intending to trawl through Amazons site to pick a different one but on receiving this one I was impressed with the clarity of it and the battery cover on the rear was the most easy to open for clumsy fingers ever.
I use this in a shady spot just outside my back door where I can read it from indoors. I’ve covered the unit with a kitchen freezer bag to ensure water-proofing, but the control buttons can still be operated and the readout is still clear. It’s a terrific little device, once you get used to the current temperature being the middle reading (the top is maximum and the bottom is minimum. It updates itself every 10 seconds so the current reading really is current. One press of the reset button and you start again. It couldn’t be simpler! I have great fun with mine and note the readings at the same time every Sunday, then reset for another week – I love it.
A simple and clear thermometer which is ideal for hanging in outside buildings. We have ours in the garage where we also have a freezer and a tumble dryer. The thermometer clearly shows the current temperature as well as the maximum and minimum since it was last reset. Buttons for changing from celcius to fahrenheit, and resetting the max/min are easy to reach. The display is big and clear.
I bought some 5 x 7.5 inch sealable plastic bags for 2 from eBay and popped the thermometer in, one top to bottom and the other bottom to top, to keep the rain out. It has been outside since bought in December with no problems. Not had to recharge a battery yet. I can’t use the hole to hang it, of course, but a length of waterproof Duck Tape with a hole made with a hole punch provides a means of hanging without compromising the waterproofing. I can read and reset it easily with the bags still on.
This is an absolutely excellent item, I bought it because I didn’t know whether keeping the curtains drawn in the front room made a difference in the cold weather. I got it set up and I found there was nearly 10F difference with the heating off when we were in bed and firing up the boiler in the morning. I’m not a gardener, I’m almost sure this came with the batteries for it as well excellent value for money and was delivered well in time.
Note: I have written this review after using the units for over a year:
I purchased two – to check the calibration I hung them next to each other for a couple of weeks, (from the polytunnel roof with no obstructions) – the readings were within 2 degrees, but remained consistently out – so, I suppose, as the manufacturer states they could both be out to + or – 1 degree. The screens are clear, easy to read, the unit robust and comes with an adequate hanging/fixing point.
As I said, I purchased these for the polytunnel, so cannot comment on outdoor use but wouldn’t use them outdoors as the rain here in Wales is like no other and can penetrate any casing!
Just one more point – polytunnels get very hot and can also be humid – we have had these units in constant use now since September 2016 (nearly 18 months), there has been no deterioration of the displays and I have just had to replace one of the batteries this week – very pleased with these thermometers and would highly recommend
What do I want from a Min/Max thermometer? I want it to tell me how hot my conservatory gets in the day and how cool at night, in digits I can read from twelve feet away. This does it, and it’s a simple button press to reset the min/max values. I can’t think of anything more I could ask of it. I can’t attest to its accuracy though as I don’t have a calibrated reference thermometer.
Does what its supposed to do and gives a clear reading of what’s going on in the garden. Works well on a 50M line of sight, – not bad for the money! Works ok at 10M with a couple of walls in the way too
Arrived next day. Easy to use and clear digital screen. Although battery was supposed to come with it it was missing from box, hence I have given it a lower rating. I don’t know how long the thermometer will last – time will tell.
I have been gardening for most of my life and this is definitely the best Max-Min thermometer I have ever had.. It’s simple to use with bold figures that you can clearly see in an instant. So good in fact that I bought 2 of them, one inside and the other outside the greenhouse to see how many degrees lift in temperature I get from my heater on cold nights. Well made and thoroughly recommended.
This is a much larger and heavier thermometer than expected, but that doesn’t matter for our conservatory. I am having to get used to the fact that it’s the middle figure that shows the current temperature. For some reason I always look at the top figure, which is the maximum temp since resetting. Like other reviews the accuracy is not brilliant – as it can be out by about 1c degree – but again not a problem and I still think it is good value for the money.
I like simple things and this thermometer is as simple as it gets. Place in a shady spot in the greenhouse and that’s it. The top button resets the temperature and the bottom button changes from centigrade to fahrenheit. So if like me, you need to keep an eye on how low the nighttime temperature gets, this is perfect.
Bit of advice, like all thermometers, don’t place it in full sun as the reading you get is not the true air temperature.
I have had a number of min-max temperature gauges and this one just works – no fiddle factor, very clear display, can be read from outside the green house. Mine is hanging from a string off the roof.
If you want to reset it, a button down the side will reset min/max to current temperature.
I have two, both the same. One has been in the greenhouse for 2 years without issue. I have had other brands/models that did not survive.
This is the second one of these that I’ve bought. The first one has been doing sterling work in my front porch for a few years, but that’s in a very sheltered position, not exposed to the highest or lowest temperatures. So I bought another one for a covered gateway in the back garden, to get a more realistic idea of the extremes.
PS: 5 years later, both thermometers still going strong. I’ve only just replaced the battery in the newer one! Excellent product.
I researched a number of different thermometers and picked this one because of the good reviews and the reasonable price. I have had it now in the greenhouse most of the summer and am very pleased with it. It is lightweight, easy to read, very easy to operate(just 2 buttons)and looks robust and easy to clean (though I’ve not dropped it or tried to clean it). And it’s great to come back from work and know whether I left enough windows open!
