Great household item to not be without. Good quality pocket-sized sharpener. Being brand you know sharpener will last as is quality. Has loop in end of handle….tie mine to handle of my garden bag so always handy and dont lose. Brilliant for sharpeneng anything especially keeping pruning shears sharp. End of handle unscrews with smalloil felt-dab inside so can dab oil on anytime too. Highly recommend over many others.
This is an invaluable part of my gardening kit and I have even been able to revive a pair of shears that I thought were well past it. It is so easy to use and it really really works. I am a gardener so after a while I do blunt things but I just keep this with me at all times in work now. Hands down the best tool I have bought this year.
I was extremely impressed by this tool, although it could have done with some instructions. To use, place the carbide head against the blade edge at about a 20 degree angle (for most knives) and run from heel to tip several times, then turn over blade and repeat. The oil applicator isn’t actually used in the sharpening process, it’s simply to coat carbon steel blades *after* sharpening to prevent rusting (the *only* actual usage instruction on the package, for some reason). I’ve only used it on pocket knives so far, but it’s design means that it should work just as well on kitchen knives, garden tools, etc. Strongly recommended, although some practice is required to use it effectively.
What a brilliant tool! What took me so long to purchase one?
I’ve tried so many different things with mediocre results to sharpen my trusty garden tools. This tiny implement is so handy, small but mighty! A few glides and the edges are sharp – surprisingly so. So useful, so effortless to use and results every time. I recommend this to all. I might get one for the house for scissors etc. 5Stars!
It didn’t seem to make an appreciable difference so I’m wondering if I am using it correctly or even holding it at the right angle. Draper is a well respected name so I only gave it 4 stars as the fault could be mine.
I gave up trying to find a sharpening tool at all my local garden centres and bought this online instead. Great little tool that works well on my pruning shears and large shears. Clever oil dabber too.
I was surprised at how small this tool is but perhaps I should have read the description more carefully. Having said that I have sharpened several pairs of secateurs and it has performed the job well. I have also sharpened my Flymo lawn mower blade and it seems to have done that well too.
This is a really good product. I accidentally gave it a bad review that was intended for a different company- but I still can’t figure out how to remove it so here is the correct one:)
I saw one of the presenters on BBC’s Beechgrove using this and thought it looked good. It arrived quickly, was well packaged and is so simple to use. I now have sharp secateurs and am going to use it on all my garden tools.
It is small and easy to handle. It has sharpened two pairs of secateurs, one set ofshears, a kitchen knife all with minimal effort. Neat oil reservoir to protect the newly sharpened surface.
Great tool every gardener should have. Comfortable grip, easy to angle and gives a great blade edge in no time at all. Small so easily stored. It’s made a big difference to my secateurs and hedge trimmers. Would definitely recommend
I needed to sharpen some garden tools and looked at various products, found this and for a tenner thought if it’s rubbish it’s only a tenner. When I got it I thought it’s going straight in the bin because it just looks like it can’t do anything.
Wrong it’s amazing. A few strokes across a blade and you can feel it working. You need to use a bit of pressure on old blunt blades but after a few passes it sharpens the blade up amazingly well.
Once the blade has been treated then I just do a quick couple of light passes after I’ve used it and it keeps the edge perfect.
I recommend sharpening at around 30 degrees of angle and after using wipe the sharpener with the built in oil pad in the bottom of the tool to keep it in good condition.
I am really pleased with this bit of kit and rarely commit to writing reviews unless I am very impressed. By one you won’t be disappointed
Black handle unscrews. On the end of black handle is a small felt sponge/brush.Put oil in the green handle.Brush oil onto the tungsten blade to stop it from rusting.I bought this to scrape my huge ferro rod.
Fantastic bit of kit, does exactly what you want to do and it’s so easy. Showed how easy it is to sharpen with to a colleague of mine on a butter knife.
What a brilliant wee tool and amazing value. I had an old pair of garden shears and secateurs, blunt as anything. Just a few scrapes with this thing and they were back to shiny-edged sharpness 🙂
Cheap but well constructed. Not sure about the oil applicator. Seems unnecessary. But what a brilliant little tool. The tungsten block is so easy to use and the tool can get in the tightest of places. Found myself looking for things to sharpen after it initially sorted my hoe and mower blade.
This sharpener is brilliant. I spent a day trying to sharpen garden shears with various devices and all failed. Bought this and made shears sharp in minutes. Get the angle right, I used 30 degrees and worked and push in same direction (not back and forth). Sharpen the blades in the same direction as each other, and dab the blade with the oiler to keep clean and prevent rust. 100% recommend.
This is a brilliant little gadget. It took me a little while to work out the best angle and pressure to use but since then our kitchen knives have never been so sharp.
When I was reading reviews someone mentioned they used it to sharpen garden tools. I got a very old axe out of the shed and it was quite blunt so I thought I’d give it a go – 2 minutes later it was nice and sharp.
So easy to use, quick and efficient. Knocks most sharpeners out of the ball park and takes up little space in the drawer. Sharpens the whole of the blade easily including the base and the tip (unlike many) Small enough to take anywhere if required. Highly recommended
I don’t know why it took me so long to purchase this product when it is just so blooming good!
No more buying replacement blades for stanley knives, blenders, scissors, cordless trimmers etc.
Because its such a handy size, you can get into awkward places and resuscitate neglected tools that you might have chucked out?
Gonna get one for my Dad too.
I wasn’t 100% sure if I’d made the right choice having bought this product at first but after I used it a couple of times and I’d got the technique right I decided that I had made the right choice.
It’s small and handy and well designed, ergonomically. The oily sponge is a great addition and makes this a powerful all-in-one tool. I cannot remember if it came with instructions but as I said, I got the technique right after a couple of go’s.
If you’re undecided, buy it! It’s one of the best sharpeners you will get at this price, it takes up hardly any room (but is the right colour for it to stick out if you can’t remember where you put it!) and once you’ve sharpened your various tools it will make the job of gardening that much quicker and less strenuous.
Not sure I can get the technique for this but I think it sharpened my garden shears well. The angle is probably critical but at least it’s hard tungsten and should last a long time and do a lot of work.
Pretty decent sharpener. I was a bit tight and bought this over the Swiss Istor. Not sure whether that sharpener is worth the extra but this has sharpened a range of tools and implements including secateurs and scissors quite well.
I was a bit doubtful that this would be much good when I saw how small it is but I’m amazed how well it works. Just a couple of brushes along the blade of my cheap secateurs and they came up shiny and sharp, able to cut straight through thick branches that I expectd to need a saw to cut. This is going to make pruning season a doddle.
This is a useful sharpener, I use it to sharpen knives, secateurs etc in the garden. Works very well as everything is much sharper after a few strokes with it. I think it is fine for small blades, but on larger ones it may not be quite so easy to get a uniform sharpness for the entire blade, but for most things it’s very good.
I have had this for some now, and now have a house full of very sharp knives. If I was being honest, I would say that some knives which didn’t really need sharpening are now razor sharp. However, thats my problem, not this sharpener’s!
My only criticism is its size. It isn’t very big, and won’t be much of a match for a bigger blade that you might find on a lawnmower, but for the knife drawer in you cupboard its fine.
It took a few false starts before finding the right sharpening angle but I now carry this little sharpener with me all the time when gardening. It really is excellent, giving a new lease of life to aged garden trowels, spades, secateurs, lawnmower blades, etc. I shall be buying a spare one to keep in the kitchen drawer for knives.
I bought this on and i can say i am amazed by the effectiveness of this sharpener I doubted this plastic handle with the sharpener on the end a lot but it does the job, it is easy to use and got everything i have razer sharp. I highly suggest to get these they fit in your pocket and can be used for gardeners or for cooking on the go Great value for money and great shipping speed!
When I received this product, I thought I had been sent the wrong thing, as I could not see how such a small product could sharpen large tools. Amazingly, it does, and it does it very well. I have used it for secateurs, garden shears, and even my large loppers, which I thought were beyond repair. With very little effort, it has made my tools razor-sharp again. I have also used them on kitchen knives, which has also been excellent. A very impressive product, and well worth buying.
Very pleased with the product. I found it easy to use and effective in restoring the cutting edge on a varied selection of very blunt garden tools, some with straight blades and some with curved. It didn’t take long to achieve good results either. Although I haven’t owned the product long enough to assess long-term durability, there are no early signs of deterioration despite a fair bit of enthusiastic use. I have oily rags for wiping down tools after use so can’t give a meaningful comment regarding the oiling sponge within the handle. However, I did add some oil on receipt of the product just in case I decided to use this feature at some point in the future and am glad to say nothing has leaked so far. A good purchase at the price.
