My wife absolutely loves this machine and l must admit it works incredibly well. Dead easy to use and looks smart. The labels are good quality and self adhesive. No doubt by the time she’s finished even my sock and pants will have my name on lol

Does the job. A little fiddley to set up and change printing, etc. The labels fade in UV. Not as sticky as hoped.

Overal, though – I use it every week and it has never failed.

This is very good, much better than I expected. I use the labels to label my seedlings. I like the versatility, paper, plastic and iron labels. I read in an earlier review that batteries did not last, not in my experience, I am still on my first set of batteries and I have made a lot of labels.
Being able to print on 2 lines means you can “ration” the length of the label

This is great to label all sorts of things, I purchased one as my daughter recommended it and we are not disappointed. I’ve labelled food containers in my kitchen, and I’m now working on my office things. It makes so much sense, you know exactly what is in containers/boxes etc. Just a shame only one roll of tape comes with it! It is a little on the expensive side and further rolls too!! But I suppose that’s what you get for buying a slightly better gadget!

I bought this label printer so that I could label all the plugs, chargers and power adapters we have as I am always forgetting which adapter or charger goes with which battery or gadget. It is very easy to use, prints good labels with easy to read text. Some labels don’t stick well, but that may be due to how clean the surface is that I am sticking it to. The main issue as others have pointed out is how the printer eats batteries. I get around this by not leaving the printer on unless I am using it. I switch it on, print and immediately switch it off before cutting the label. Hence only 4 stars, but other than the power consumption, a very good printer!

Fantastic item. Was very excited to receive this. Have just reorganised my kitchen cupboards and bought lots of new storage jars for all our baking products. Now need to label them up. Very easy to use. My mum has one and I thought it was a great product. I am now looking to buy some more jars for lentils/pulses, soup/stew mixes. My sister was asking my mum for her label maker the other day so I am now considering buying this again as her Christmas gift!! I know she will love it. The only thing was the labels I had printed from my mums machine (exactly the same machine) didn’t stick very well so I had to cover them with clear sellotape. They look great though and you can see immediately when you look in the cupboard. Very happy with this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dymo label maker (excellent item)

I bought this to label plugs and be able to properly distinguish which is which. This is fantastic for extension cables behind the TV or for our fish tank, where it’s quite important to know what you’re unplugging.

I love this label maker and it’s making me want to label everything. It’s got variable font size, font styles, borders, etc, and it easy to print and cut labels. They stick especially well to things (though I haven’t attempted taking anything off yet so I can’t state anything there).

If you’re considering a label maker I’d say this is worth it. You don’t need to exert any pressure in stamping letters, it’s all just on the machine. I feel it was 100% worth it.

Bought this after seeing it from someone on Instagram and all of their shelves, jars, boxes were all beautifully labelled. I am not generally an organised person but trying to be especially during lockdown! I have to say this is super easy to use, even for me and it makes life much easier now I have labelled all my jAm jars ( which are filled with all sorts). To use it you simply type the word in and press the button the side which snips the label and voila it’s done!

Bought in October 2019, worked very well indeed. Little bit battery hungry but that is the only fault i could find with it. I was happy with my purchase and would recommend as it was easy to use and did what i wanted. However in late May 2020 it stopped printing and an error message on screen said “paper jam”. I contacted customer services and was given a set of instructions to try to rectify fault, they did not work. I have to say at this point the Dymo customer services are brilliant, they answered very quickly and could not have been more helpfull. The returns procedure was a tad complicated but they give clear instructions. I have received an e-mail telling me a new machine is on the way. Again i would like to state i am very happy with the machine, 4 stars is because it broke down. 5 stars for customer service response. New printer arrived 27/5/2020.

For the price, it’s awesome but that’s not to say it’s perfect. The printing is ok but it looks quite pixelised on the vinyl print. The battery life isn’t great, I’ve maybe printed 50 labels with it on fresh batteries and it’s flagging up low battery already.

The borders on the print are very very close to the text. It’s less a border, more a box that sits flush to the edges of the text. As such, it’s not that useful and doesn’t look great which is a shame because it could have been useful.

Otherwise, it’s easy to use, easy to do everything really, great for little labelling jobs. For just over 20 that’s a really good deal. Esp in the home where you aren’t printing crazy amounts of labels. For a business if it was going to be used a lot, I might invest more, but it’s great for organising and labelling in the home.

This machine has been around for years in many guises. It works and it works well. This is battery only (4x AA) – whereas I recall the ones from years ago had a mains option. Battery is OK – but if you don’t use it very often you have to remember to take them out.

This gives you all the fonts and sizes and symbols that you are likely to need. I do find it annoying that it doesn’t have dedicated numbers, and the numbers are in very pale blue – so when you have turned to number mode it is not quite intuitive as to which key corresponds to which number. I guess if you use regulalry – that would be easy. I like that you can store upto nine lables – so if you have some to repeat or adjust slightly that can be a real time saver.

My experience is that the compltible labels are just as good as the originals – so save some money that way – but the lables themselves are not that expensive to produce.

This is my second purchase of this same product! I bought one for myself and kind of went label mad around my house and even my mums. Needless to say my home organisation game has never been this strong! Easy for other members of the family as well, as they now know where everything is rather than having to ask all the time.
I took this to work and used in the office as well, a few colleagues made jokes but before long they were all queuing to have their things labelled! This purchase is now for the office.
Only drawback is the labels aren’t as sticky as I’d like but still a great buy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis label maker is perfect for what I need it for. I am trying to get more organised and this will help me achieve that.
The label maker comes with a paper cartridge as standard, but having a plastic cartridge as well is beneficial. There is 4m worth of label in each cartridge which is ample.
It is really easy to use and includes lots of different options for how the label could look. I have included a picture.
It takes 4 AA batteries which are not included.
If you need an easy to use decent label maker, I would recommend this, especially at this price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNow I have this, I label EVERYTHING.

They’re really good to put on drawers, boxes, containers, and items around the kitchen. The machine is pretty easy to use; you use the buttons to type what you want and can also add in some symbols and pictures if required. There are five different font sizes to choose from – I generally go for the medium size as it works quite well with everything. For smaller font sizes, you can even add a second line onto the label. The machine has a memory, so you can save text you may need to print again in the future.

The cartridges are quite expensive, though if you buy a multipack it can cut the price per cartridge down a bit. I personally think they’re worth it, however, and my favourite type are the clear plastic with black writing as they look pretty smart. Be aware they also take 4 (four!) AA batteries, but they last quite a while so I’m not really complaining.

It beats the traditional embossing label maker in terms of style and ease of use. I would recommend this item for people who like to keep things organised and get excited by things like label makers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good, though refills can be pricey

I’m a typical Brit and can’t be bothered to read instructions. The hardest thing about this label maker was getting it out of the plastic! It was so easy to set up and the labels are the perfect size for labelling plugs which was the main reason I wanted one. Normal stickers weirdly seem to always peel off the plugs in my house but the labels with the machine are super sticky and work great. I haven’t tried any fancy text but the standard is just right.
TIP: Try to cut off at the edge of the machine ie don’t print then pull as you’ll end up wasting loads of tape.

  16. Anonymous says:

Does exactly what I need it to!
Very easy to use- took all of 5 mins to read the instructions, install my first cartridge and off I went!
You may find you want to play around with the font sizes etc to find the right one for the job. I’ve been using large size font with a 2 line set up and it seems to be just fine.
I expect it can get a bit expensive if you have lots of labelling to do as the cartridges don’t come cheap, but I bought some plastic tape and it seems to be pretty good quality.
Some reviews mentioned that the battery can drain quickly if not turned off, but mine seems to automatically turn off after about 5 mins of no activity.
Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase!

I purchased this for my Husband who wanted to sort out his garage and label the various tool boxes. After a quick read of the instruction leaflet he switched on the printer and the first label was done in seconds. It is really easy and straight forward to use. The label cutter ensures the label is the perfect size.

One label has lifted slightly on a short edge which is why I gave 4* but it could be due to a dusty surface. Definitely make sure the surface you’re sticking the label to is clean, dry and free of grease.

My Husband is really pleased with this product and highly recommends it. It’s had a lot of use since it was delivered a few days ago and the batteries are holding up really well.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersI used this to label wholefoods in my kitchen and it is extremely useful and ideal for this task. Handy to keep in a drawer, switch on and print off a label or two without it being a mission!

The interface seems primitive compared to digital tech these days and the keyboard is a bit pondersome to use, the display is not the sharpest but it does the job! I could see myself upgrading to a more modern version as/when it debuts for improved ease of use.

Working out formatting etc is reasonably intuitive and straightforwards without needing to refer to a manual.

The labels print quickly, smoothly with good ink distribution and give a professional effect.

This is fun and satisfying to use.

Bought a new spice rack and needed to affix labels to describe the contents of each shaker.

After a bit of searching I found this gem, and have to say it was perfect for my needs.

Very easy to use, didn’t even need to refer to the instructions. Just out the batteries in, click in the cartridge, turn it on, and away I went.

Bought a clear tape cartridge given what I was using it for and results look perfect. The text is a smidge pixelated however looks more than acceptable. The machine allows you to choose the size of the text, as well as the case etc.

All in all very happy and would definitely recommend if you just need to affix the occasional label to something.

Golden Review Award: 429 From Our UsersEasy to read in the dark. Label the cobweb covered shelves, label containers full of newt eye and bat tongue that clutter the iron steed’s stable. Useful to label those switches in the dungeon that nobody can remember if they were for the drawbridge or the lava-sourced heating. Can do more than just basic type in and print labels, a few different fonts and even a few borders make labelling less clinical.

Golden Review Award: 80 From Our UsersI used to have the manual version of this machine, wherein you’d turn the mechanical dial and push down to print each character. With this machine, you key-in in what you want and the machine does the rest!

For twenty pounds there’s not a lot to complain about. You have a choice of numbers and letters (lower and upper case), font styles and borders. Unfortunately, I find that the font style applies to the entire string, rather than to individual characters. This is a minor nuisance given the asking price.

If you intend on printing the same label several times, you can save the entry and recall it later for quick printing. I found this feature more useful than expected, because entering the characters can be quite time-consuming. Unfortunately, you can only store 9 entries. It’s a minor limitation, but in 2007 (the date this machine was first available on Amazon UK) it seems like a rather anachronistic limitation.

In terms of general usability, the machine is pretty easy to operate. The keys are spongy and don’t have a massive amount of feedback, and the colour of the numbers is very close to the colour of the soft keys, so they can be difficult to read in low light (Dymo, why not use orange so that the numbers stand out against the blue?).

The machine takes 4xAA batteries, which were not included with my copy.

Bottom line: If you need a label maker, just buy it.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersVery easy to use. Bought with a roll of Dymo S0718840 LetraTag Iron-on Fabric Labels LetraTag Label Makers, 12 mm x 2 m Roll – Black Print on White to tag my daughter’s school uniform. Works a treat. I’m relieved never again to have to sew on those useless textile tags that come off anyway.
Takes a minute to get the hang of and it saves you hours. Whatever it is you’d pay to sew on your kids’ tags, the iron-on labels that work with this device cost about the same. I have two kids, and I have no intention of buying sew-on tags ever again. Instead of spending hours sewing tags on, buy this, get the rolls you want, and use it for everything you need, from uniform tagging to marking your milk bottle in the fridge, sticking date labels on medicine and whatever else you can think of, for as long as you live. Comes with a 3-year extended guarantee that I was very quick to sign up for.

Golden Review Award: 480 From Our UsersA brilliant labeling machine for the house and for labeling my kids stuff up.
Easy to use, literally push the kind of tape into the top as shown in the image, then select the size of text.
Easy to put batteries in and out, back cover is a clip in style that takes 4 AA’s.Lasts a long time on the batteries.
Easy to print, a white button on the top right, then once done a button on the side to cut the label off.
Able to print on Paper, Plastic, Fabric/Paper stuff (cartridges are available from Amazon too) etc so I print on plastic labels for my kids drinks bottles, and material for ironing in their clothes.

Prints numbers, Letters, upper case and lower case.

I’ve included an image of a few label types, and sizes if it helps.

Replacement cartridges of labels cost around 4-5, but in fairness they last a reasonable time for me.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this to label some storage containers I got for various kitchen cupboard items.. And also because I am a slight ‘stationary addict’.

This actually came with a white paper tape roll which is quite nice, but I did purchase a white plastic roll separately (because the containers I have been tagging will no doubt need cleaning & I figure plastic will endure more than paper will). So far I absolutely love it! (I did however forget to purchase batteries as it doesn’t come with. So heads up!) It has nice customisation options for borders & underlining your text & also has a little selection of symbols which I utilised because I am an emoji fiend so any excuse to throw in a little symbol or two!

All in all it does pretty much what you’d expect. I haven’t fully gone through it to find out everything it does as I figure I will when I think of another thing to label, which believe me I will find many excuses for. Very happy with this!

So far, so good. It does what it says on the tin. I’ve wanted a label maker for some time, instead of writing my name in books I’d rather just print off a label instead. Once I’d been to A&E and got stitches, and came back home, it was easy to set up from that point on. I left the instructions aside unread and had it up and running in less than five minutes. Just be careful when opening the packaging.

I bought this label maker to identify various plugs and power bricks attached to 6-way sockets tucked behind furniture. 5 months or so on, that’s already proven very useful. I’ve resisted the temptation to put sticky labels on everything in sight, but have used it for various other things, notably identifying host names or IP addresses of IT kit, also for storage tins and boxes to see at a glance what’s inside.
It’s quick and easy to use, not too fiddly at all. The display, about 6cm corner to corner, is clear to read, and the keyboard has rubbery keys far enough separated to avoid pressing 2 at once. The whole thing measures about 21x9x7cm, you’re not going to lose it down the side of the sofa. Takes 4 AA batteries (not supplied).

I’ve always wanted a label maker since I was a kid and I finally had justification to get one . I’ve used 4 high spec rechargeable batteries and it works a treat. So far I’ve used it to label all the plugs in my Marine fish tank, the plugs for the entertainment kit and anything else that stays still for 5 seconds. The x large font is a bit of a waste but I’m happy with the other sizes – especially the double line feature. I did wonder if the abc instead of qwerty would annoy me, but it’s not too bad actually and the keyboard is nice to type on. The screen does have to be at a good angle to see clearly out of the box but you can turn up the contrast to improve that and I’ve not had any issue since. I would recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersI bought one of these as my sibling had a similar one.

I’ve been very impressed so far. The label maker is able to print on different types of labels from iron-on labels to white shiny labels. The device comes packed in a sealed pack you open with scissors. Once opened, insert 4 ‘AA’ batteries or you can insert a 5amp charger (available separatley). The label maker is easy to load with the supplied roll and fairly simple to use once you work out how to change font size and other formatting. You can store anything you regularly use in any of 10 memory locations of re-use.

The printer prints very quickly and the print does not run which is really useful. The keyboard layout IS NOT standard Qwerty format but instead alphabetical order. This is not too much of a pain but would be easier if it used the qwerty keyboard layout.

    Overall a useful purchase.

Excellent user friendly product. Its revolutionised my collage and mixed media work. My art journal now has witty quotes easy to read. Love the amount of symbols available and the format of keyboard is great. I don’t find it not being querty a problem. I love the cutter ,its a big button and easy to cut with. The cassettes are a good price online and a good selection of colours in plastic and metal. The paper is also a good tough product and I ink mine round the edges to make them more interesting. The paper takes ink paint and pens well. Sticky tape is centred with a cut for ease of removal too 🙂
It is heavy so I don’t drop it and it is not flimsy made. I am thrilled with its overall look , ease of use and performance. My batteries are recyclable and work just fine.
I could go on and on but ill just say – don’t buy any others -buy this printer its superb. Excellent seller and products.

Straight out of the packaging this neat little printer was producing perfect labels in seconds. Power is provided via 4 AA sized batteries and the operation is very easy to master after just a few minutes use and a quick observation of the manual. The finished label can then be adhered to the item of your choice by simply peeling off the paper backing which is precut from the centre of each label. A vast choice of fiffering tapes can be aquired allowing the user to produce coloured or clear labels, iron on labels for clothing, or for a myriad of uses around the home. Other features include the use of flowers, faces, musical notes, fruits, bicycles, clocks, wheelchairs, projectors, fish, animals, and pictures for most uses to accompany your lettering and produce the perfect label for your needs. All in all a superb tool for a fantasticly good price. Well worth buying, and highly recommended from yours truly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis gadget is absolutely amazing!!! It came 2 days earlier than delivery estimate which was fantastic as i was looking forward to getting this. The product packaging was very good and easy to open. I then read the instructions which were very easy to follow and got me printing labels in the matter of a few minutes of reading. Making a label is very easy, i got the hang of it straight away. All you do is type out what you want on your label and it shows on the screen and then prints it!! the label takes just a few seconds to print and doesn’t even use any ink!! this is because it uses heat to print it. If you want you can make the writing bold, italics, shadowed, outlined and even vertical printing. You can change the size of the font, add borders to the labels and you can have two lines of writing if you wanted to. You also get a massive selection of symbols to choose from to add to the label. If there was a label you use often then you can even save up to 9 pre typed labels to print straight away. The machine itself is very well designed. Its shape fits your hand very nicely and is a sturdy machine. I also love how much of a range of labels there is too like clear label and coloured plastic labels and even labels you can iron onto clothes!

I literally cannot fault this little gadget at all, the ONLY downside at all i have is that the keyboard isn’t a QWERTY keyboard, its just alphabetical which is a bit tricky at first but you will get used to it. Although if this is a major problem for you then DYMO do make a QWERTY keyboard version but i do not own that one so I’m not sure how good that one is compared to this one. Hope you enjoy labelling stuff as much as i did!!

My wife thinks I am a bit of a nerd buying this however it has proved to be really useful. Our house is over-run these days with lots of transformers for various electrical devices and it isn’t always easy to know which transformer goes with each device. I have therefore used this to label them. I also stuck a label on my glasses case with my name and phone numbers so that when I left them in a hotel in Birmingham, a man who was laundering their sheets in Wales phoned to say he had found them! The labeller has already paid for itself!
It is really easy to use after a quick look at the instructions and does what it says it will with little fuss. I wouldn’t recommend the iron on labels for clothes… they seem to come off after one wash.
All in all, I am very happy with this and am glad I bought it, regardless of what my wife thinks!

20 years ago I bought an earlier model of one of these and have enjoyed magnificent service but recently when it snowed I started turning out the utility room and catching up with more labels on the plastic baskets on the shelves. In truth, I had lost belts for the Dyson. My 20 year old labeller suddenly failed and I took it apart and was amazed by its intricacy and the quality of how it was put together. There were little dobs of grease on hidden joints where it should be and beautiful engineered. I furtively checked out its latest relative on Amazon and was amazed that it was only 15 quid. Hesitating not a bit I pressed the button and a new one arrived, post free, the following morning. The old one was good but this is twice the machine and is a good decibel quieter than the old one. The instructions are good and my grandson is bent on learning technical German as they are in several languages. A terrific buy.

This is great value for the money and works a treat.

    pros.
    – Decent build quality, especially when you consider the cost (not too sure what some folks expect for the money!).
    – Good choice of tape colours / type.
    – Makes nice clear labels (black print on what ever colour the label material is). It’s not embossed like with the old mechanical Dymo machines, just printed on the label.

    Cons.
    – Does not come with either batteries, or a charger. Though this is clearly stated on the advertising description.
    – Tape is a bit expensive but one roll should last a while. Just shop around for the best price.
    – Not much else really when you consider what this unit costs!

Regarding buying a charger. There are some third party units that work with the Dymo (regardless of what some have said). Though the first one I bought on Amazon did not work… this was promptly replaced and this unit worked just fine (cost was just under 10 delivered).

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have just purchased this through Amazon. As usual, it arrived before the due date. It does EXACTLY what is promised, and does it extremely well – great piece of kit.

Some of the negative reviews I have read just astound me – people say that it doesn’t come with a QWERTY keyboard, or no batteries or charger, but if they took just a few minutes to look at the product description and other comments it’s blindingly obvious that this is the case. If you want a QWERTY keyboard, one is available for goodness sake, you just have to read the information and then pay the money!!

One piece of advice – if you’re going to use it a lot, and therefore consume a lot of tape, it’s really worth shopping around on Amazon to find the nest deal on tapes, as these are a relatively expensive component of the finished product, and prices vary significantly (and beware low prices with high shipping charges – although orders for several tapes in one order make these more attractive).

Happy labelling – I can see the temptation to label everything that’s not moving!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersLooking for something to label my glass storage jars that hold my precious variety of dried chillies the Dymo LetraTag was purchased through rose tinted glasses and childhood memories of black plastic tape with raised lettering along it’s surface.

Whilst incredibly useful and functional I was a little disappointed by a couple of features the machine was lacking, firstly the absence of a QWERTY keyboard is a puzzling choice, it instead employs a somewhat outmoded A-Z layout, this leaves you reaching for letters not to be found in the places your fingers naturally migrate too when typing and noticeably slows you up in a label emergency should such a thing exist.

Secondly the machine only comes with a paper tape cartridge, the paper tape doesn’t feel as though it will stand the test of time and I do get the impression Dymo know full well you’ll immediately feel the need to purchase the more robust plastic tape cartridges as a replacement adding another 5 to the cost. Luckily thanks to other reviewers I knew this to be the case and so purchased a couple of plastic tape cartridges at the same time, one thing in their favour is that they do come in 4m lengths which is generous and should allow me to label up most stuff in my home.

Finally for a handheld machine it is rather bulky and made from the type of cheap plastic you find inside chocolate boxes, that coupled with the lack of any discernible texture it never really feels secure in the hand or gives you the feeling of a quality product but it’s usefulness and price point finds me forgiving the Dymo LetraTag these few little flaws.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI purchased this item about a month ago and I gotta say, it is a must have piece of equipment if you are the kinda person who would like to keep their things organized.
So far I’ve used it to create labels for: spice jars, power adaptors (for my external HDD, Xrocker gaming chair, laptop chargers..etc which all look alike), work badge, PS3 controllers..etc)
And what’s also great about it is that you have different colours for the tapes. I just love this little thing and I would difintely get a replacement if something happened to mine.
Probably the only annoying 2 things about it:
1 the keyboard layout (ABC rather than QWERT) but hey..you can get used to it..not a big deal
2 when you try to print 2 lines/rows, it just doesn’t look right (kinda squashed together)..but you can easily overcome this by printing the lines seperately and sticking them on the top of each other.
    Overall 5/5

Golden Review Award: 108 From Our UsersI found this product well made and easy to use, with one or two minor niggles.

If you use the clear button to delete your last label text, it resets any formatting you have set up (font size, borders etc.) to defaults as well, which is a little annoying. One way round this would be to delete the text character by character, which is a bit impractical for a long label.

It doesn’t come with batteries, so you will need 4 AA batteries as well.

I had a problem initially with the tape cutter after printing a label, but found this was because I had not clicked the cartridge fully home, so that’s one to watch. It also took me a while to notice that the backing tape is pre-cut lengthwise, which makes removal easy.

One thing that amused me was other people’s reviews complaining that it came with paper tape, which wasn’t suitable for their purposes. In fact, that is just what I wanted (for labelling separators in a box file). So I was a bit miffed when mine came complete with two tape cassettes: one plastic and one iron-on fabric, but no paper. As a retired person, with school long behind me, I don’t need to label my clothes, so I don’t see a use for the fabric tape! (Maybe it will come in useful when they cart me off to the old people’s home, though.)

Another thing to note is that buying my paper tape in one well-known chain of office supplies stores cost me about twice as much as on-line prices, so beware!
