Due to a leak in the pond had to top up urgently with tap water, this product ensured my Koi were kept safe by keeping the water quality to the standard required. Very easy to use, easy to understand instructions.
Came full to the brim with the good stuff and the ball aswell luckily it hadn’t broken in transit which was a good things and seems to be doing well
Each year, when winter hits, our small wildlife pond (500 litres) water turns a murky grey colour due to the aquatic plants dying back and leaves blowing into the water. So I use half of one of these for the 500 litre pond and then 1 quarter in each of our small trough and half-barrel water features, after just 7 days, the grey water slowly starts to turn clear so that I can see nearly the bottom of the pond. Works well and very happy as there are no side effects and the pond creatures are not disturbed, which is essential. Great product and will be ordering again next year.
This product is amazing. I use 1 of these every 3 months or so to keep my water crystal clear. A lot of people will just throw it in and expect immediate results, it doesn’t work like that unfortunately. You must run a UV along with your filter when adding this to your pond, the UV and Pond Bomb will work together to clear the green water. Be patient and continue cleaning out your filter regularly, then your water will start clearing and eventually be crystal clear. Once its clear it will be super easy to keep it that way.
Works wonders within a couple of days in still ponds. Can’t vouch for the same results in moving water. Very impressed and can reassure people thinking of buying this product that my frogs are alive and well and birds drink out of the pond every day.
I buy these on prime saves me going to the garden centre and sending on other stuff. No cheeper on here then my garden centre unless you pick up more there like I would do . There very good definitely recommend of you need one.
Use it a few times a season for my pond. Very good addition to pond maintenance.
Water quality and clarity brilliant after a few weeks.
Takes a few weeks to work . Always use it.
I had a very green, sludgy pond after using a sludge
remover product and couldn’t clear it. I put the bomb in and it started to work immediately. A day later the pond was clear and I could see my fish again. A bit expensive but well worth it.
I read the blurb and looked at the pictures of the box. When it arrived I read the box. It is very clear that it is NOT intended to clear green water. A UV filter will remove green algae
A curious review complained that the nitrate level had not decreased after using this product. The product is designed to destroy harmful nitrites by converting them to nitrates; the nitrate level will and should rise. Nitrates are basically a plant food and, if you do not have any plants to use up the nitrates, the surplus may encourage blanket weed to thrive
Used in warm weather, this is ideal for kick-starting a biological filter, maintaining your pond until the bio-filter matures or a quick temporary fix for cloudy water / high nitrites
These really do clear out the water and keep things looking healthy! Throw one in every now and then and they keep things ticking over.
Price is definitely starting to creep up though!
Placed in my filter and yes has helped slightly but to be honest not as good as the product claims.if over the next week it changes I will update this review
The water is my wildlife pond is definitely clearer since using this product. I purchased 2 for my large pond and will continue to use this product. I have awarded 4 stars as it is early days to assess its long-term effect!
After watching videos and reading reviews else where I decided to try the pure bomb. I was a little sceptical. My pond wasn’t dirty but it wasn’t clear enough. I have a depth of around 80cm and was unable to see the bottom of the pond, after placing the bomb into the pond with all the contents of the tub is sunk pleasantly to the bottom within in an hour I noticed the difference and by the next day I was crystal clear and the bottom was visible. I also cleaned my filter before I used the bomb to just to give it a helping hand.
Seems to be clearing the water of more floating dirt matter than I can’t fish out with my net. Buy one if you have no filtration system (& even if you do). Will put one in the pond every year from now on, pretty sure it will help the fish have a better environment.
Given 3 for ‘sheerness’, lol. Don’t know what it means though.. & can’t be bothered to google right now.
I have always had some fines in the outlet stage of my Nexus and varying degrees of accumulated dirt in some of the folds in the liner of my pond. So I thought I would give this a go.
Its been in a month now and gradually the water has become clearer than ever before. It was always quite clear but not spotless like it is now. Decaying dead algae on the liner after adding Blanket answer 5 weeks ago has disappeared and this has been replaced with a very fine surface layer of green algae giving the otherwise plant free pond a healthy look.
The water sparkles, I can just see its looking better and the fish are much happier than I have seen them looking for some time, relishing food and spending their time constantly searching for things to eat instead of being idle.
For the first time ever, there was next to no fines in the Nexus outlet chamber when I cleaned the media stage today too so I am really impressed with this product. I will be using this twice a year from now on in Spring and Autumn.
I dont think you can expect it to work miracles and replace a good filter and UV setup but it definitely works well with them and helps achieve results that on their own, something like a nexus and UV cannot quite achieve.
My pond had drained when my filter had become blocked overnight so had no choice but to fill with fresh tap water. Obviously this had a negative impact on my pond. The water went green filled with blanket weed and algae. Bought this in the hope it would help. After just a day or so there was a definite difference. I’m having to pull blanket weed out every other day so it’s not a miracle cure but defo does help. Fish seemed much more active after too. Lilies are growing and spreading again now and filter doing it’s job. Also put couple of barley straw hales in too. The combination has helped to ensure the water is much more healthy. I have more babies too so that’s always a good sign. Would defo purchase again.
The single ball of stuff in a container of gel stuff is simply added to pond filter. And that is exactly what I have done, the day before VE Day.
Monitoring of the clarity of the water over the coming days and couple of weeks. I currently can say I can not see the bottom of the pond, although uv and filter are in working order.
Update to follow: watch this space.
13thMay2020: the pond filters , second stage have required cleaning twice in the last week. The green sludge that builds up within the filters causes an increase in the water level indicating two things. Firstly , a lot more of the green stuff is being trapped and that is a good thing. Secondly , the filters are working fine. Back flushing until reasonably clean, not fully clean, helps trap the next lot of green gunk, there’s a lot of it.
Is the water clarity improving is still something I still can not answer. More to follow….
One day on and the weather has shone a new light on the pond clarity question. I can definitely say the pond is clearing as fish are better defined as they approach the surface for food.
This stuff looks like it is working in conjunction with filters and the cleaning of them.
I’ll give to the weekend before posting a second video.
Added a couple of photos, one of the green gunge that the filters are now trapping and a slightly more distant view of the improvement in water clarity. I do suspect this could take a few weeks as filters are reactivated and pond water is clearly bogging. It just needs time…..
6thJune2020: as the clarity has improved, I can now see the bigger problem. The bottom of the pond is choked with debris, mainly oak leaves , twigs and other bits of the trees along with sludge. How I know this is because I dredged it today. The manufactured net broke early in the dredging. Made a far more sturdy net out of an old metal hooped badminton racket and a washing net bag. I now have a builders 1metre cube bag about two thirds full of crud. Will need to dry the bags contents before I can even consider moving it.
Hopefully this will also go someway to improving the pond water quality and clarity.
20thJune2020: I have added a short video to show the water clarity, it is continuing to improve. I am having to desludge the fine filters once a day as the fine particulate matter which is visible in the video gets trapped in them. What is not clear in the video, is the depth of view, which is much better.
I have also ordered replacement filters as the current ones are starting to tear and getting near to end of life.
April 2021: pond clarity continues to be great, can see down to bottom of pond and it is in need of dredging out of leaves and twigs. Looking good.
This is an amazing product and I am so happy to give a 5 star review of this pond bomb..:- In the Spring some ducks came to our pond (first time in three years) and churned up the bottom silt and decaying organic matter causing the water to become like black tea! (I scooped out a glass of water to examine it).. I spent several days shooing the ducks away.. They are lovely to look at but cause a lot of mess and damage in a small pond and also two of the baby fish died as their scales had been damaged.. I know the river and canal is not far from us so I knew the ducks would have better feeding areas there..
But even more alarming was the fact that my 30+ assorted size goldfish then hid well away and wouldn’t come out to feed for weeks and weeks on end. At first I thought they were just spooked by the ducks disturbing their habitat, but after seeing the horrible brown coloured water I realised they were shutting themselves down naturally to protect themselves from the ammonia and nitrates etc..
Our pond was inherited by us when we moved into our rented house. It is well established, probably decades old.. It looks as though there may have been a pump and a waterfall but these had long ago stopped working, and there is no longer an electricity source to the pond.. There is a lot of decaying matter at the bottom which I do not clean out but prefer to leave the natural ecology of the pond to do its thing and the fact that we have an abundance of wildlife in and around it , I prefer to leave well alone. Usually the pond is a bit green from the suspended algae but apparently this is not harmful to the Fish, frogs, newts etc.. (also I read that baby fish feed on it)..
I also read that it’s a good idea to aerate the water, which has a lot of ammonia and nitrates in it, if it has turned brown.. I bought two solar fountains and underwater stones to oxygenate the water.. I always give things a good few weeks to see if there are any improvements.. There was no difference in the water clarity but these have added nice features to the pond!.. The water was still dark brown and murky and the fish were still hibernating even though it was late Spring by now..
I read the reviews and product information about the bacteria in these bombs that break down the ammonia etc..I thought I’d give them a try.. I put one bomb in around the 3rd week of May..
After a few weeks my fish gradually started to appear again and looked swimmingly alert and ready to feed again…I could see the dozen large fish and a couple of the babies.. I was so pleased to see them re-emerge.. The visibility was getting better too.. So I knew something really good was happening.. I put another bomb in a couple of weeks ago.. Now all the fish including 10-12 babies are perky and healthy, feeding and enjoying life again..
Yesterday I did the water glass test and the water is no longer brown at all!.. I am so pleased. There is just a slight green tinge.. I occasionally use an anti-algae product but I don’t want the water to look absolutely clear as I prefer it to look natural.. I always use a water conditioner if I’m topping up the pond with tap water in the summer to remove chlorine etc.. Also this year I have let the lilly pads cover 2/3rds at least of the pond as it is in the sun all day (well when the British summer permits!) and this also helps to discourage suspended algae..
All I would say is be very patient.. Give these things a good few weeks to get going and you will see good results. Also lastly but most importantly many many thanks to Evolution Aqua Pure for creating this brilliant product.. I would highly recommend this to all pond owners.
