I’ve owned a full sized garden claw for many years now and it’s one of the most useful garden tools I have. I therefore decided to buy this mini claw for those more densely packed garden beds where the full size claw is too bulky. However, because it has no shaft, the turning force required to achieve the same result is much greater. Added to that, the full size claw is a 2-handed operation whereas the mini only has one hand grip.

In short, with this mini claw you need to have a very strong wrist action in all but the very lightest of soils – in which case you don’t need a cultivator, a normal hand fork will do.

This is the best tool for loosening weeds and cultivating the soil in between plants. It saves my back from dragging a hoe through the soil and lasts forever. I have used one of these for many years. I bought this as a gif

I have arthritis and a number of shoulder injuries over the years have made digging a chore. This item is excellent you can loosen the earth ready for planting with just a trowel and it’s much easier to use than a spade. I would definitely recommend

Good solid claw, I decided to avoid the cheaper options as some reviews said they were flimsy, this one is great I widened my flower beds by removing a strip of grass and used this to break up the soil underneath, it took a bit of effort from me but the claw handled it easily. I have heavy clay soil. It’s great for weeding and planting. Wish I’d bought one sooner.

Was a little difficult to assemble. But great and easy to use on my boarders in my large garden. Made it easier to clear the weeds. Would recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI already had a hand version but obviously that needs one to be kneeling down and requires a strong wrist action to rotate the claw in the soil. This one allows the gardener to be standing and the arms of the device provide much more leverage. I mainly undertake the larger gardening jobs whereas my wife (AKA the “Head Gardener”) prefers to deal with weeding etc. and she finds this tool ideal. Often the weeds extracted remain trapped in the claw and she doesn’t even have to bend down to gab them and shoot them into the collection basket. I’m getting loads of praise for the purchase, and who doesn’t want a happy wife?

i have owned a garden claw for many years and my previous one was stolen from allotment shed and it was the one tool i missed the most. it is very good as a final tiller and keeps bringing up more weeds so does a very thorough job

Robust hand tool for shallow earth tilling. Can be a bit wearing on your wrist if you’re not used to hours of gardening. Very useful for weeding and getting into hard soil.

Only used it a few times and it’s held up well can’t comment on it’s longevity just yet.

Also a lovely bright colour which is a pleasant change for garden tools.

I had one of these four years but somehow it was left behind when we moved. Just got around to ordering a new one. It makes wedding super easy with very little effort. The handle had to be attached with the bolt provided and I’m a bit dismayed to find it a loose fit. My husband is an engineer and says that no matter how much the bolt is tightened it will still wobble

Helped my wife break up really compacted soil, its sturdy enough for what we needed. Sometimes the ground need working with a fork first but our soil is really hard. I think this is a great product.

Sturdy item I gave it to my son who has an allotment he was delighted, apparently it’s better to churn up the top soil rather than digging over with a spade or so he says. He is a tall man this item suited him too.

This item has stood up well to my useage..

I have torn one of the handle covers off, and bent the times five times in one afternoon.

If it can survive a big ham-fisted get like me using it it should last a lifetime. It is the second purchase of this item as I gave one to my sister-in-law after we had no use for it after a house move. A quality item helped me reclaim my garden from mother nature, after complaints from my long suffering wife…

Went through the weeds like a child attacking an ice-cream.

    Brilliant.

This device appeared about 15 years ago but didn’t seem to be a great hit with gardeners, similar to its long-handled brother. I can’t do without it in the garden. It so handy for doing a quick surface stir up around the base of plants, far better than using a trowel or hand fork.

Does a great job of breaking up and turning over heavy clay soils. My ground was so hard that we couldn’t get the traditional garden fork into it – this broke the soil up, making it much easier to dig mulch into it. Makes weeding much easier.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI don’t know why it took me so long to order one of these. I first saw one in a garden centre many years ago and always thought that I’d get one. I ordered it yesterday and it arrived today so today was the day! I’ve literally had it for two hours and I already think that that it’s an amazing piece of kit. I’ve been all over my borders and it has broken up the soil with ease leaving it looking lovely and freshly turned.
It is SO much more effective than using a hoe and SO much easier than a spade. With regular use my borders are going to look fantastic and it’s going to take so little effort.
When it arrived I thought that I would be using it like a spade by putting my foot on it so that the prongs went all of the way in and then twisting. This approach would take an awful lot of effort – especially in clay heavy soil. Instead I’ve found myself pushing the prongs into the soil around three inches deep, twisting and covering a large area in such a short amount of time.
It’s all very easy and I would highly recommend that you purchase one.
This is stating the obvious but the better the soil the easier using this tool will be. There’s an area of my border which has clay and the tool is more difficult to use. On my crumbly soil it’s amazingly easy.
My only small gripe is that the handle grips could benefit from being upgraded as they’re not very substantial.

Great product does the job really well. Tip – Fit some insulation tape between the handle and stem join and the claw and stem join that will fix any wobbles.

This is great if digging is too much on your back and it losens the dirt and makes weeding so much easier and manageable. My mum has one because her neighbour recommended and then I tried it and bought one.

The garden claw is an excellent product, it makes breaking or turning soil much easier and reduces back strain. It is great for loosening weeds and is very well built.

Once I’d packed under the handle with masking tape to stop it wobbling (!), I’ve found this brilliant! Almost effortlessly spirals down into the ground (and I am on heavy clay), lifting out even deep rooted weeds, and as long as it is not too wet, leaving behind a crumbly tilth. It genuinely is a cultivator, not just a digging tool. Best of all, it produces no back strain whatsoever. Can be used between plants. It is even making light work of weeding out my strawberry patch, a job I normally do on hands and knees.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI needed a small hand tool for a higher level bed and this seems to have good reviews. It’s smaller than I expected, but surprisingly effective, churning up quite hard soil without much effort. The only downside is that because it’s so small, you need to use it a lot to make much progress, which can be tiring on your hands.

I’m glad I got it, as it allowed me to get water deeper into the soil as the start of my attempt to make the bed more plant friendly.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI ordered this towards the end of last year and didn’t get a chance to use it until the last couple of weeks. It is fantastic, takes all the pressure off your back and works like a dream, just gets the weeds out and turns over the soil even in a fairly closely packed flower bed. I have recommended it to every passer by who has commented on the garden work going on! I wouldn’t be without it.

A must for any gardener. Very robust and will last years. It breaks up the soil with ease and I like that the height can be adjusted which isn’t an option on some of the cheaper inferior brands that I have owned in the past.

Best tool,I ever bought, turns over the soil in the garden borders in next to no time. Borders look great and the blackbird likes to rummage for worns. The claw fits in between established plants in the rear garden but not sure about the front garden, not used it there yet.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’d used one before, but couldn’t find another in any retail garden, farm shops. glad to find it through Amazon, Delivery was very fast.
I find this tool very efficient at tackling soil, its design and operation seems to work at working weeds up and out, and also tills and mixes at the same time. It’s not a tool that requires no effort, the effort is just different, in that one uses a pushing and twisting motion with the upper body. It’s another useful tool to have in the shed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a brilliant tool. I was skeptical that it would work on my heavy clay so looked for reviews mentioning clay. I found two which said it worked well. I still found it hard to believe but thought it worth risking 33. I’m so glad I did, it works so well. I’ve cultivated my whole garden which was dry and rock-hard and now the recent rain has soaked in rather than running off and it’s easy to hoe in granular feed. I shall use it again in the autumn prior to mulching. The instructions say it can be used to aerate lawns which will also be useful though I haven’t yet tried it.

Quality product bought because I’m not sure what happened to my original claw. Looking forward to using it in the autumn. Garden is plant covered because if this exceptional summer.

Brilliant device. Sturdy and well made. Use it all the time on the allotment. Only downside is that it won’t work on hard baked soil, but then again you would struggle with a traditional fork in those circumstances. Great for upper body workout – Gets rid of those bingo wings!

Good design, the curved handles on this garden claw are far more effective than the cheaper, straight handled versions. If the soil is very compacted, you may struggle to get the claw into the earth to begin with, but after that it’s really effective at breaking up the soil.
