Brought back so many memories buying this Monopoly game. Great all round family game, sturdy metal player pieces. Ideal for Christmas family get-togethers or for any time of the year. You’ll have plenty of fun playing this and the great thing is it’s for young and old players alike. Have fun !!

Lost my first monopoly set so this was handy for Christmas. Same as before with a couple of new tokens, penguin and dinosaur. Iron no more. Difference between 500 and 100 notes not as good as old game, easy to mix up n the heat of the game.

When it arrived it came inside a box not much bigger than the actual item itself, the packaging was really compact so when I took out the board game I was impressed to not see one single tear or scratch in the wrapping. Lastly, the board game itself came with all the necessary components to play monopoly so all round good purchase

Generally speaking the quality of the product is quite good. However, there is one part which I wasn’t really satisfied with: The paper what’s used for the money is really thin and weak. I was working in printing industry for years and I know that choosing a stronger paper – which can stand children’s hands – would raise the cost of the game just by a few pennies… After using it twice the money started to be worn off. Adults are able to be careful with this but children can’t control their movements yet, so it won’t stand the test of times for long, I’m afraid.
Anyway, all the other parts are really good and the game itself is enjoyable, of course, even for adults 🙂

Love it 🙂 I used to play it when I was about 8/9. Not sure what happened to that game – probably dog chewed it to pieces. Bought this. Still enjoy it, after 20 years later. Actually, it is more fun than those fancy games on PC. Call me old timer 🙂
Well made and provides hours of fun…

Good product. Well packaged and arrived on time. Pleased with my purchase.
Brought this to play with friends & family. Usually I play it with a lucky dip prize or a drinks game with adults. Pass go collect 200 + lucky dip prize or drinks shot. Winner gets a top prize and anyone who’s sent to jail has to do a fore fit, like make the drinks and nibbles for everyone. Adds a bit extra fun to the game.

I love this board game and got it at a great time when it was on sale for 7 so I’m happy as usually the cheapest you can buy it for is like 15. My old one was getting a bit worn out.

Our family love Monopoly! Great family game. We had the very first old version, sadly it went the the great landfill site in the sky. Although it has been replaced with the new version, I personally still miss the old one. We bought the children a childs version which they also love to play, great learning game and also brings families together instead of having their noses stuck in their phones (we ban all phones when playing as a family, quality time!)

I bought this just before Christmas so that my partner and I could play a few games as we both had fond memories of playing this classic game as children. It brought out the competitive side in both of us – but gives of hours of fun!
I considered whether to give it four or five stars as I was slightly disappointed with the quality of the player pieces which I think are cheaply made and slightly poor quality, but as this is my only minor gripe in the grand scheme of things I decided it still deserved five stars (would’ve given four and half if this were possible).
I love the addition of the speed dive which I had not seen before (having only played with a board made in the 1980’s in the past). This enables a game to be played much more quickly as it seems each move becomes an effective move that advances the game. I haven’t yet played with the speed dice as I like the traditional game and don’t mind at all if the game takes a long time to play as we sit and drink a glass or two of wine and enjoy it. But I think it could be a great tool to use the dice if one has children who want to play but insufficient time to complete a full game.

I mean, it’d be great if my girlfriend wasn’t a sore loser. And if my best friend wasn’t a sore winner. And if I weren’t a player of middling ability, so I do better than my girlfriend and worse than my best friend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is just how I remember the game being in my youth. The box, pieces, board, cards, money are all top quality.

Good instructions, interesting game play and potentially a very long game. My two sons and I play and they are already addicted – ages 7 and 6. Teaches them all kind of useful skills for life and explains the concept of owning and renting too as well as some great practical maths.

The introduction of the quick play dice is also a great idea and gets the game going fast.

Yes, thankful for this game and it’s not causing too many fights either…

Good fun but can be a bit of a long game: the dog and kettle etc traditionally all there -but they are too small and fiddly and so is the money which is smaller than it used to be. Works fine with 8 year old.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought my first monopoly board some 40 years ago and kept it in great condition for 30 of those years. However, I needed a replacement and this was purchased for my kids. All kids want to do nowadays is play on their consoles/ipads/phones and that really doesnt lead to any interaction, so this was really aimed at weaning my kids off their devices.

To be honest, I have to say that this has been fantastic. My kids have had some really mammoth games and I have enjoyed playing with them. The best part has been haggling with them over property deals – they’ve become ruthless!

Overall, a superb classic that you will play again and again.

Cant really go wrong with Monopoly to be honest. Only gripe is that this board had American roads!!! Thought I was buying the English version. I miss Old Kent Road!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a game it is really fun to play with friends and family (even if you’re playing only 2 people). I had Monopoly before, but it was with an electronic card system, which required batteries.
You have good amount of houses and hotels to build on your streets, 8 figurines to choose from, and compact packaging. It shouldn’t take up a lot of space.
The quality of the product is excellent, but I would like to have card or plastic money banknotes, because at the moment they’re from paper, and can be easily torn (I have an idea of laminating them afterwards,s othey last longer).
However, I would recommend you to buy this product if you enjoy playing the game. Most of the people I know really like to play it, but you should definitely try before purchasing for yourself.
    Happy playing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, and high-quality for a decent price!

I like it because it reminds me of when I was a child: Mum always did her best to beat me, in this game; as in life, she was a feminist.

    Christmas present for granddaughter.
Was going to buy her the super duper one with ‘credit cards’ but was worried
that if the ‘electronic card reader’ thing broke the game wouldn’t work, but with this
‘original’ type it should last for many many years if looked after.

Well it’s a monopoly board with the original streets and stations and it comes with all the cards and money. But – and it’s a big but for me. There are NO POUNDS SIGNS! A generic M (presumably for ‘Money’ or for ‘Monopoly’ which is a word not a currency!) with two slash lines through the M is used instead. Presumably to make it a global edition for all currencies. However one of the great things about a game like this, is teaching your children about money and we live in the Uk and have pounds – I want our boy to learn what a pound sign is! I expected it to be fairly cheaply made when it cost 12 ish, and it’s ok – the board is reasonably thick and hard. The detail is a bit basic. But it’s ok – except for the awful M’s for money. It might be generic but doesn’t mean anything to anyone – I would rather it had a dollar or euro sign if not pounds! And we have London streets and stations so we want english ‘s. That’s what it looks like !!!! Ok – rant over. I’m off to look for a better edition. I looked at older versions on ebay but found the nostalgia edition in a tin from John Lewis for 19.99. It has signs. It seems to be the same as the nostalgia edition that comes in a box (ie slightly smaller board, smaller cards and smaller money) but the boxed nostalgia edition has the proper green trains on the stations and not the black US looking trains. So seems to me the nostalgia edition in the box is the best one – has the right trains and signs – but not available new except at extortionate prices. I can live with black trains so will keep the edition in the tin but the money is very small so may buy the basic monopoly again, just for the full sized money!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMonopoly is a childhood favourite of all, and a teenage pet-hate of most. Subject of many a family argument (often over who gets to be the dog), but you can’t help loving it! This is the same board that I know and love, and I have no complaints what-so-ever about this purchase: exactly as expected. Has made for many hours of fun already!

Really happy. You know how you have an idea of the quality of things as a child, then they get reproduced, cheaper and cheaper over the years, the quality diminishes etc, well that’s not the case here. There are a few minor detail changes, the boardbox is more compact when folded up, some of the player pieces have changed… but they’re still metal… the changes seem to have added to the whole experience.

6:30 am in the morning “Let’s play Monopoly” is my 8 years old boy wake up call! Just to say, it is brilliant and the red dice which helps to play faster version makes the monopoly shorter and then very enjoyable! My 5 years old is the banker ans everyone has a role and is happy and we are busy for 2 hours!!! yeappppppp

I am a big fan of board games but i am not a big fan of spending money. This is a great offer for a monopoly game since i personally have seen the same exact monopoly being sold for 30 pounds in a store. The only difference from a normal monopoly is just slight differences on the property cards (some lines missing) but definitely nothing that will affect your game

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis traditional, classic board game is wonderful. Up to 5-6 players can easily play it and it will provide hours of fun. Though it does not have any of the fancy new instruments, for example a credit card machine, in my opinion this makes it even better. As someone who grew up plying monopoly with my family it is one of the few board games that I believe everyone should have in their house. It will cause competitive sides to rise, deals will be made, which only causes the game to be more thrilling. Also there is something quite satisfying when holding a big pile of fake cash in your hands! Since this is the British version the streets and properties of London are used. The quality of this game is superb!

How could I not give this old favourite game anything but 5 stars. Takes us well back to good times past, now as seniors nagged by grandchildren to play it. They are 6 & 7 in age have junior monopoly wanted to try proper game ,( we have anti-monopoly but that I more complex), This is good value am impressed it has the metal charms not bits of plastic!

This is an updated version of “The Game”.
I absolutely love this game since I was a kid. Never stop playing it, but I seem to have misplaced my last box, so I ordered this one.
This is still the normal version with back notes, and not that silly version with credit cards.
Nice, simple and unforgettable. One of the few times where “vanilla flavor” is better than any other.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usershe ideal classic monopoly i much prefer the board in four as it comes in a neater square box. a few different pieces.we got a cat in ours child 6 learning to play as he had the junior version and picked up the rules .quite quickly although with young children its often easier to start them with a couple of streets so they can start to buy houses and get the game going quicker. good for teaching money and counting as well

I’ve always loved the game and just bought it for my son. The metal character counters are not all the original ones, there are a few new ones (still got the boot, boat, hat). But that’s ok. One extra red dice to speed up the game and everything else is pretty much the same.
We’ve already had two great games together.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased this game in the last week before Christmas with the expectation that it would arrive before New Years. It came in on Christmas eve which was a pleasant surprise.
Monopoly is a must have game and one that can take up a few hours of your family time with everyone but the 8 year old being fully engrossed and highly competitive. The 8 year old played banker, read out chance and community chest cards and counted out moves.

As monopoly is originally American game I had expectea d an American version unless otherwise specified. I am aware there a many, many versions. I would have enjoyed an Irish version but saw none available. What I did receive was an English, possibly London version. We will keep in and I’m sure will be fun to play but would have appreciated knowing what I was ordering!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAhhh who doesn’t love a game of Monopoly?!

I used to play this for hours on end with my parents as a child. I loved it then, and I love it now, but my Mum’s old 1980’s board is on its last legs. I have purchased this for my daughter (well, more for me!) so she can have as much fun playing this with me as I did with my own mother.

There are a few little differences between this and the older versions, but nothing too major. The place names are the same, the objective is the same, but the money seems thinner, cheaper, and some of the playing pieces have been changed, I assume to be more modern.

We haven’t played our first game yet, I need to find a day where we have 7 or 8 hours free! Hours of fun for all the family!

This is a Christmas present for myself and my husband. Can’t wait to have a go as it’s ages since I played Monopoly with a really old set I used to have years ago. Though the hotels and houses are now made of plastic and not wood as they used to be, I am sure we’ll still really enjoy playing the game as that’s not changed!

It was a Christmas gift for our son, and we play it regularly as a family. It teaches about how to handle money, and know when to spend and when not to. Fun game, and I like the shortened instructions, compared to the “book” that accompanied this game 20 years ago.

This was on my daughters wish list for Christmas, mainly as it had a new cat playing piece. When bought this was a fabulous price, so couldn’t resist. Had its first play on Boxing Day, lots of fun, but it is a long game. There are instructions for playing a quicker version, but we haven’t tried that yet, good idea though.

The classic game, made better with the addition of the cat! So many versions around now, you are spoiled for choice but I wanted my kids to know the old fashioned street names of the original version – hence this purchase! I don’t think there is much else anyone can say about the game as we ALL know the details!

The supplier was also pretty good as it came on time, was well wrapped and as I wanted. Another minor Amazon success story – many thanks!

Golden Review Award: 69 From Our UsersOk I admit we play lots of more modern board games in our house (like Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne and Forbidden Desert) but we still have some fun with Monopoly. And I cant imagine many people who haven’t played it, so it wont be easy to make this review new and interesting

The 2013 set comes with the new cat piece, which is quite sweet, and pretty much everything else is what you would expect. All the cards and money feel a bit small/flimsy to me but the player counters are metal and the whole game is typically about a tenner on Amazon, so that seems fair. The full rrp of 17 seems a little high (to me at least)

We have played the adult Monopoly (this 2013 and previous versions) with our children since they were about 7 after migrating from Junior Monopoly. And we all have fun. We tend to play ‘quick and dirty’ with a few house rule variants to speed/liven things up (see below if you are interested). The kids have learnt to manage money/counting/sums, negotiation skills, strategic decision making and experimenting with new rules (and the consequences) – admittedly with some with prompting from mum and dad – so there is some educational value in the game. The game has 2 normal dice and a red ‘speed dice’, we mostly prefer/use ‘normal dice’ but the red dice makes for a bit more speed/luck.

Taking Monopoly on its own terms it is a perfectly agreeable family game (in my opinion), it isn’t a game we would play lots of and probably wouldn’t be our first choice for an adults only game – 3 stars seems too harsh so we give it a (generous) 4 for being an adaptable classic.

. . . a few house rules if you are interested (or haven’t tried changing rules yet: all fines etc go on to free parking to keep more cash in the game (does anyone not do this?), no purchases on the first round the board (or until all players have passed ‘Go’ once (or twice!)); each property is auctioned to the highest bidder as it is landed on (3 or more players and its ruthless!), no rents can be collected in jail; game ends when 1 player is bankrupted and the winner is the one with most cash (or more usually asset value); being allowed to build on properties without owning the set (stated rents with houses are halved until the set is complete) is good fun too
