Bought this for my wife’s birthday. We’re fans of the show and this was really fun to play. The fact there are 2 maps to play was a nice surprise, and neither of them take too long. Each race was exciting and the replayability is endless. Very happy with the purchase
Loved the TV series, so when I saw this decide to give it a try as we love a family board game especially with the bank holiday’s.
It’s an easy and straightforward game, easy set up and instruction clear. There is a long and short game and we played both with two players and three.
We had a laugh (played with teenager) who also enjoyed it, great if you can get more boards to do different races.
It’s a great learning experience for younger people to understand money and budgeting. Since this game is meant for people aged 8 and above, the game isn’t complex so there’s a low barrier to entry which I think lends to it being a good family game.
There are character cards to indicate strengths and weaknesses which affect game play and add extra dimension. The chance cards area cool and work just as they do in many other classic board games in the sense they can create good/bad situations for your character. I think a single round may last just over an hour but when I was playing it took a bit of time to gather everyone and explain the rules several times and then snack breaks so my game lasted much longer.
The quality of the pieces is very nice. The board is double sided and sturdy. All the printing on the cards is clear age vibrant so it looks good quality. I’m impressed with the game and I like that it’s a unique concept. I’d not heard of the show before when getting this game and you don’t need to have watched it in order to play luckily!
Fun board game with two sides to the playing board. Though it does require some strategic thinking and planning, a lot of the game comes down to luck.
Suitable for up to 6 players and is a great way to spend an evening with family and friends. Easy and straightforward rules that gets you playing in a jiffy. The game usually lasts within the hour, enough time before the little ones start to get bored.
Good quality board and pieces, lots of colour, and durable. The board also packs away nicely.
A good board game especially if you’re fans of the show so I’d be happy to recommend.
This is such a fun game and ties in with the TV show. Although you can play it without even having watched the programme. The aim of the game is to travel via bus, train or boat to get to checkpoints as you race across the world from one destination to another. There are various routes to choose from too so each game can play out even more differently.
Along the way you can do jobs to earn money if you are running low and you stay in various accommodation. The accommodation cards do determine whether you get a budget accommodation or premium. Along with the job cards that determine whether you get a well paid job or something less well paid. There are also chance cards to keep things interesting too. These cards can have a positive or negative effect on your journey. The board itself is pretty sturdy and folds up well to put away.
Overall this is such a brilliant board game. We tend to play as a three and it works well that way. The game can have 2 – 6 players so you can have a group of people playing to make it an even more exciting race. There is an element of chance to the game which does give most players a chance. Lots of fun, I’m happy with it!
We really enjoyed playing this game as a family and it did not take long to understand how to play it and all instructions are inside the box. Defo recommend i
This IDEAL | Race Across the World: The globe-trotting adventure game! | Family TV Show Game| For 2-6 Players | Ages 8+ is great! Nice quality! Easy to use! Easy to understand ! Nice family bonding! Good value for money
This is a great fun family game and can be played by those fans of the TV Series, as well as those who’ve never seen it (of which we fall into that camp).
The hard board features two sides, with one being a longer version of the same game. As a family we played it one afternoon and really enjoyed it. There is a great balance of skill, luck and enough variables to keep things interesting. It’s also judged well in terms of how complicated it is and the instruction/rule sheet is well written and explains things clearly.
I think this will become our current default board game to go to on those sort of days when you don’t want any more screen time and both my 7 year old and my 10 year old gave it 5 stars.
As a result of this board game, we are now going to check out the actual series, we enjoyed it and the premise that much.
I loved the TV series this board game is based on. While the version on TV across various parts of the world would probably be slightly more adventurous this version is still pretty fun and probably easier to fit into a rainy afternoon!
Easy to pick up with clear instructions. Good quality pieces and board. Well priced for a board game of this kind and quality.
This is a fun and challenging game at times which can be played by the family. It’s based on a TV show but i’d never actually heard of it, the game just appealed to me as my son especially is a huge fan of games like this.
The concept is easy to pick up, you’re literally racing across the world and various cards leave you stumped and having to change your strategy. The whole thing is well made, slightly large but it makes a statement when you get it out!
Great for fans of games such as monopoly or other chance type games, recommended. you don’t need to have seen the show.
My boy is a fan of board games, he loves collecting board games and will ask to play with us from time to time. The one is IDEAL Race across the world board game which was one of the popular BBC TV shows, I didn’t know until my boy told me. The board game is well made in high quality and the looks and feels sturdy. The instruction is easy to understand and follow. We are having fun with it. Suitable for anyone to play from 8+ age, can play between 2-6 players.
Fun and unusual board game unlike the usual games we have such as Monopoly, Cluedo, Go, et al. It’s not quite as strategic on a deeper level, it’s whimsical and quite a quick play, based on the hit Race Across the World TV series.
Would it be a game played and cherished for the longterm such as the above mentioned games? No, not really, its more of a tie-in game for fans of the TV show and not complex enough to carry through time longterm.
4 stars
This is a really enjoyable game that isn’t too hard to learn and is good fun. Has an educational element and we have really enjoy playing it as a family. Four stars.
This was a super fun game to play. My husband and I love a board game and it’s sometimes hard to find ones that are good for 2 players. This was great. Lots of fun. Nice quality board, pieces, dice etc. Money was thin and a bit disappointing but fine. You basically pick a route, pay your way and get gazumped by chance cards etc. I really enjoyed it, have never heard of the TV show its based on tho.
My only grioe. And it’s a standard gripe with most board games, is the size of the box vs the contents. Yes, the board is big, bit folds down very flat. And aside from that the rest doesn’t need much space. But the box is 4x the depth of the contents. Why must you fill my cupboards like this! So annoying.
But! Excellent game.
Fantastic fun to play and easy to learn – my family really enjoy this board game. It’s easy enough for even my youngest (who’s 8) to play, with just the right amount of competitiveness so as not to cause any arguements.
The double sided game board features 2 variations on board and play – one side takes longer than the other to complete. The shorter side takes around 45 mins.
The game can be played with up to 6 players and basically the idea is that each player races along various routes to be the first to get to the final destination on the board. Each player starts out with the same amount of money, but paying transport costs and accommodation can seriously hinder a players progress and budget along the way. It’s a game featuring luck and chance, and pretty much anyone can win. My youngest has won a few games already!
The game comes boxed with thick, double sided game board, companion cards, play money and a variety of job, accomodation and chance cards, plus 4 dice and 6 player pieces.
It’s a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy a good family friendly board game.
We enjoyed the game more because of watching the race across the world series 1 & 2. With some imagination we made up good stories of tasks and journeys to make the board game last longer and found it great fun.
Great game. Played several times so far. Not much changes so it might get boring shortly.
Great game, also has 2 sides to playing board which I was unaware of.
We loved the two series (not sure how crossing Canada in the upcoming series 3 will be as exciting as crossing multiple, often third world countries, with non-English national languages and very different from the UK cultures – even in Quebecois speak English, often reluctantly). Anyways, five of us played the game and there are definitely tactics and strategy involved, including weighing up costs and benefits of different routes in consideration of money remaining and partner strengths and weaknesses. It would be even better if there was a way to play with actual partners. It would be even better if there was a link to an app for that varied hotel and transport prices and work gains by country/region, as in real life. However, the game is great fun as is.
No it is not equivalent to the great Ticket to Ride series – a bit of comparing apples and oranges by the previous reviewer.
Quality of board and accessories excellent (despite there being 2 packs of dice but no character pieces, hoping to get replacement from makers).
Game didn’t require too much brainpower and therefore lacked strategic ability to slow competitors. Prefer Ticket to Ride Europe, but close 2nd favourite board game.
