I used to have a small ‘travel’ version of this with magnetic counters, and I really wanted to get the full version so have just bought it. In some ways it’s like a complex version of snakes and ladders and as a result it’s quite easy to teach new players (although I suggest deciding in advance what rules you are going to have for whether a Hazard card has to be drawn when you change branches of the same line!)
The only gripe I have with this is that the map is now very out of date – this is the 2011 version, which means there are a few elements missing, including the Northern line extension to Battersea Power Station, the whole of the Elizabeth line, and the Overground route between Clapham Junction and Queens Road Peckham. It would also be helpful to include the Thameslink routes, which are included on the regular tube map nowadays – it would be especially helpful when another player sends you off to Lewisham and you have crawl up the DLR just to get back to the Jubilee line!
Great tool to familiarise kids and adults alike with the underground
The game was simple but had a good deal of strategy in it and was great fu
Top Trumps are the best – simple, timeless concept of comparing cards, with the best one winning – easy to understand, learn, play and share with all age groups. Highly recommended!
Grandson loved this game, easy to learn bit expensive but worth it.
A game where you travel on the London underground to visit 6 landmarks. But on the way you pick up hazard cards, which can end up spoiling your plans. One minute you think you’re going to win, the next you’ve been moved to the other end of the board. So it can be extremely frustrating but it’s also a lot of fun. But I think younger players would find it quite hard. You might have to adapt the game a bit. The only complaint we had was the counters, which look like little underground carriages, as it was very easy to lose track of which station you were at as they didn’t have a pointed end, but we solved this with a dab of nail varnish.
It takes a little while to learn the rules, as they are fairly complicate, and there were some squabbles about them en route, but once we got into the game, there were lots of laughs. It’ll come out again next Christmas.
We love this game. Great fun, it’s one where you can block each other and move people to where they wanted to be so good for a laugh. Family suitable though teenage kids up I would sugges
A good memory from my own childhood. You no longer wish to discover Drayton Park (go there once and miss a turn), but equally good forfeits. Ideal for all the family.
Played this with my daughters many years ago. Was surprised to find it was still available and am now enjoying playing this updated version with my daughter now.
Easy to learn and good fun.
Enjoy playing this game as we do the other train game by Ideal but on both games they boards are to small and make it difficult to see stations and places
Enjoying this even more than we expected, and getting lots of laughs at the frustrations of station closures and detours. As outsiders it’s also a great way to learn the routes of the underground, as well as the places of interest in London.
I remember loving playing the previous version this game when I was young & my teenage daughter loves this updated version too.
As previous reviews have said, the playing trains are too big for the size of the stops and some of the hazard cards are repeated however this does not spoil the game and we have made it fun to create additional souvenir and hazard cards of our own.
I have the Great Britain version so got the underground version for a change. I bought this as a present for a competitive family and told them to gang up on each other and they love it. I can’t wait for lockdown to end to be able to go round to play it. The size of the player pieces and station closure makers are a bit too big for the board, but sometimes you can use it to your best advantage!
The game is a great addition to your Friday night board game nights. Its pretty easy to get your head around it but so far hasn’t lost its enjoyment playing it – Would recommend!
I haven’t played this for many years but loved it as a teenager. I purchased this as a gift for friends abroad.
It’s a brilliant and easy family game to play and also great for getting to know the London tube map well.
We love London and we love the Underground. In times of Lockdown when we couldn’t go, we totally loved playing this game!! Sneaky blocking moves, a great way to learn the London layout and some brilliant facts too. Great for all the family.
This is high quality from the offset, box perhaps larger than it needs to be, but quality materials and nicely made. I do think the board could have been larger (and still fit inside the box) or perhaps smaller player pieces, as they can sometimes sit on top of multiple stations. The gameplay itself and the idea are great. I would recommend this game and it is value for money. I played with 1 other person, I have recent detailed experience navigating London and the other player hadn’t been on the tube since the 1990s. We both enjoyed it and got on okay. I can’t speak for the experience of sometime entirely unfamiliar with London. I am something of a train nerd but I think this is a solid game, fairly quick games but you could always extend by dealing more cards. I loved that it came with a dice shaker cup which is really nice quality.
Great game for me and my daughter too play love the fact there are twists in the game when u can move your opponent to opposite side of board only issue we had was when you close a station you get trapped on a line and then the game becomes boring until you throw a six.
Have not played this game as yet as it’s a birthday gift for hubby in upcoming birthday and with the virus and isolation wanted to make his birthday fun time ..but it’s certainly looking like a fab game to play ..and it’s come exactly as described ..so I’m more than delighted with my purchase ..and would highly recommend it to anyone xx
I bought this for my 6-year-old son who loves trains. Played three rounds in one go, we could hardly stop. It is complicated to start with, but once you get a hang of its rules, it is super fun. Needs constant attention and can take a while to finish a game if you work against your opponents. Helps to develop strategic planning.
A fun game a little like Ticket to Ride. The playing pieces are too large and can easily sit over multiple stations causing confusion. We have swapped them out with smaller alternatives. Alternatively a larger board would help with this. We have taken to writing our starting stations down as we often forget where we started from. A means of rotating the board would be helpful as reading the map upside down is difficult.
A very well thought-out board game. It is one of those games where the competitive and uncompetitive can play together because the outcome of the game can easily be affected by the cards you draw throughout the game. Strategy and luck are needed in equal measure. Definitely one of the best games that I have bought in recent years.
The main and only criticism that I have regards the starting pieces. They could be made smaller but heavier. Maybe also the flat round translucent pieces for blocking stations could also be heavier and more substantial.
This is a fun board game that is ideal if you are familiar with the London Underground map… if you don’t know where things are it can be frustrating searching for the stations you need to visit unless you want to learn them! The rules about opening and closing stations are harsh and are best relaxed for a more enjoyable game. The board is fairly small and the stations are too close together for the rather large counters, so you have to remember where you have landed and which line you’re on. While frustrating at times, it’s never-the-less a fun game if you like board games. If you don’t. it’ll drive you nuts!
We bought this version as our previous version is falling apart (due to extended use and some accidents). The expanded map is good, with far more options and destinations.
The player tokens and blocks are really too big for the map size, as to get everything on the board the font has reduced. We feel that the hazards could have been added to, rather than just multiples of existing cards added.
We have added a house rule for those (like me) who can’t roll a six – you can bypass a block on the third attempt.
Still a great game, and an introduction to London’s landmarks.
We played the game together as a family because we love board games. My little girl who is 6 didn’t understand the game but partnered up with her dad and thoroughly enjoyed it. It does involve a little strategizing and that adds to the fun. You can block a persons travel by closing stations and that really throws a spanner in the works. All in all good fun and very informative.
A fun game that will bring out the evil in you! You can send a fellow player on a wild goose chase across London or cut them off from their intended journey! It is hilarious. The only downside is that the map is a little small and reading the station names can be a problem at first until you get to know the board.
First bought this board game 10 years ago. The game is a race to visit a selection of sights around London. Gets quite competitive as the game nears its end, Also good fun for anyone interested in the tube in general and finding which tube station is nearest to each famous sight. Been looking for this game for four years as wanted to give one as a present.
12 yr old avid underground fan loves this and I’ve lost count of how many times it has been used. Easy to make up your own variations of game (we have come up with several of our own variations) and great for underground fans as you have to travel across the tube stations with a roll of the dice to visit various attractions on cards. Also good information on Places of interest in London. Younger players could also play a version if you make a few adaptations to the rules as it will help with their counting skills and colours.
Such a brilliant addictive game. Was brought for playing over the Christmas period . Played over and over again, by both children and adults.
Caused many a laugh, as players nearing there station and thinking they were going to win, were sent to the other side of the board. A game based on just chance and luck. Have not found such a versatile game for different ages in a long time.
I first played the game in the late 70s and because of this I have a detailed knowledge of the underground.
It is a fabulous way to educate kids about how to navigate themselves round London.
In the 1970s, the game just concentrated on what is now Zone 1, but it now goes to about zone 3. Whilst it is great, so we an updated version- the board needs to be bigger because if several pieces are on a station it becomes a bit unmanageable.
Obviously when Crossrail gets opened in 2018, the game will need a redesign and at the point it will be essential to have a bigger board
This kept us occupied for a long while over Christmas and involved more strategy than I had expected. It has a simple concept. You draw 6 cards representing London underground stations and have to visit each one and then return to your original station.
However there is a complication thrown in by other players being able to block stations and when you have to change lines there is a hazard card that can throw you in the wrong direction.
A simple game to play but involving.
Waited for over a year before deciding to purchase this game, partly to see if it would come down in price, it didn’t. Great game something a bit different, especially if your familiar with the London underground, but fun even if your not. Its bound to help with future weekends away in London too, and moroe entertaining as you can make your way in different directions, not just around a board in one direction. would definitely recommend it.
on the plus side, its a fun get to your destination race. Kids love it and great for learning where all the underground stations are.
On the negative side, if you don’t know London, it is time consuming looking for the stations. Also for the younger player finding a route around london stopping at 6 stations is too much to ask. We play with 3 destinations and that seems much better to remember where you are going.
On the whole, 9/10, fun, interesting and good for learning.
This game was bought as a Christmas present for our son and he loves it (probably because he also likes anything to do with London!). The game is well presented and the various hazard cards mean that achieving the objective of the game isn’t always as easy as you may think especially if you are playing with others who are particularly sneaky or competitive! I would recommend this game to those of all ages and it would be especially good for children to learn their way around the capital.
Really loved this game!!!
It has five stars as me and my wife really like this before we bought this game the wife would let me do all the planning when we go to London as it was a challenge for her to find and plan her journey, and i have to say that she can do it better than me now lol
I feel that it could have had more stations to visit i.e. one’s on the outskirts of London instead of just the centre, but still a great game!!
Interesting board game – has more luck involved than some games. Moves depend on the throw of a dice and potentially on a card which can be very good news or very bad news depending on circumstances. Makers have slipped up slightly on the colours used for the stations – not all station cards are coloured to match their line which can be frustrating but overall a fun family game.
