After installing a new propane hob we found that the flames were more intense and larger than previous hob and this resulted in constantly burning items being cooked on it.
Now have two of these hob diffusers in use and after finding out how good the first one was we ordered another one.
    So no more burnt food.
They are heavy cast iron, do not distort , very and stable and have been of great benefit.

This is just what I was looking for. In the past I have had thinner heat diffusers that never been quite what I wanted. This one ticks all the boxes. It’s sturdy fits securely on all my gas rings and keeps food down to the gentlest of simmers. 5*

This replaced a cheap and nasty ‘stainless’ steel one that had gone rusty. I wish I had bought a cast iron one in the first place. You can feel the quality and it does the job superbly. I like that it fits perfectly on the hob pan support stand. It comes with a stainless detachable handle although I don’t tend to use that. I would highly recommend this diffuse

This is well made and designed. The ridges on the base allow it to sit securely on my gas hob. It has a removable handle. Our previous diffuser was made of mild steel and rusted badly, leaving flakes of rust everywhere. This one is cast iron and should last a long time. Would suggest hand washing, rather than using a dishwasher, to preserve the gloss finish.

Had problems with my gas hob. Pans wouldn’t sit without tipping on the smallest ring and the flame on the largest ring was too big for my pans.
The heat diffuser is excellent to prevent this on the largest ring.

If you’re doubting this at all, please don’t. I don’t know that there’s better on the market anywhere, it’s that good. Simmered a curry down over 8 hours with this, and not a single millimeter of the sauce, meat or anything else caught on the bottom of my pot – the flavor after being able to finally do that on a home gas hob was utterly unbelievable. Next to use it with my tagine, which I expect even more phenomenal results from. Don’t bloody hesitate, whatever you do. Buy it! I need another 3 now, I’m obsessed…

Compared to other heat diffuser plates, this is superior in many ways: does not discolour, is solid and keeps its shape, does not slide, has a separate and removable handle, no obstructive hinge, wipes clean. Perfect for cast iron and enamelled pots.

So glad I opted for this over cheaper versions. Hard wearing enamel finish. It is heavy but as a result is really stable on the gas hob. It has little ridges in the back that slot over the gas hob bars. Reduces the fierceness of the gas rings so that I can properly simmer curries and stews etc without burning the centre of the pan. Added bonus – if you heat up the plate and then turn the gas off, this makes an excellent plate warmer – ie for resting meat. This morning I used it as a heating plate to melt butter & chocolate for brownies. Can’t think how I did without it now. 🙂

Really pleased. I’m using it at the moment for cooking on top of my log burner. It usually cooks things too rapid, which is ok if you are boiling the kettle or boiling potatoes, but not so good with cooking. This is a whole new ball game with this heat diffuser. I can cook with all kinds of pans now, including my lovely tagine…. on my log burner, without harming them. Slows the heat right down.

Been on annual leave this week and cooked every meal with this bit of kit! Best 20 I’ve spent in a long time! Can’t believe I doubted i

Matches my cooker hob perfectly. Sturdy. I can finally simmer! I’ve had my ‘New’ cooker for about 8 years and even the smallest ring was too fierce to simmer and this has solved the problem perfectly! I can safely sit and have a pre-dinner drink while the curry simmers and I know it won’t stick to the bottom of the pan or burn! Why didn’t I think of it before?! I put it back in it’s box when I’ve finished with it and it slides into the cupboard next to my saucepans out of the way. The little handle is perfect too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally I can simmer!!

You can use a cast iron grill plate as a diffuser if you have one, but this is probably the best choice out there to invest in to store handily in a drawer. Needed for those situations where the lightest of simmers is required or for use with terracotta pots, tagines etc. that don’t like sudden changes in temperature. A fair price for the quality and comes with a wire handle that clips in place..

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMost of the diffusers sold here are not really fit for purpose. Some of them (the ones with the wooden handles) are completely useless and fit only for some tacky Marrakech souvenirs’ shop. Even the more seemingly robust ones will not last long and will soon lose their diffusing ability, they will also probably rust badly. The ideal diffuser would be a disk of solid copper three or four mms thick but that would be prohibitively expensive. This is a good enough substitute for that. It fits easily on gas rings and inverted will work on electric and vitreo-ceramic cookers. It is an effective diffuser and you can simmer without fear of burning. Even at the current price it will last much much longer than the tinplate variety whch you have to keep replacing. I recommend wholeheartedly.

Delivery was fast, two days after ordering from Italy it was sitting on my gas hob.

Bought this at what I thought was an eye-popping price to replace a cheap one I’d had previously. This one is really heavy and sturdy – it’s brilliant. My last one had a handle which had come off within two weeks. The steel went rusty and disintegrated pretty fast. We persevered. When we cleaned the cooker we put it on the side and it made indelible rust marks on the kitchen surface.

This one – very heavy – enamelled – brilliant. Perfect heat dissipation for slow simmer. It has a removable handle so that it doesn’t get really hot. I think it will be with me for life. Odd to be so enthusiastic about a simmer ring, but it’s SOOOOO much better than the last one.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our Users…for small pans on LARGE burners.

I use this item a lot under stove top stews and soups. The large surfaces help decentralise the burner’s effect over a much wider area keeping large pot simmering away for hours and hours as needed by some recipes.

Be warned though the central vent on medium settings provides too mush of a ‘chimney’ effect and you can burn the stew or soup to the bottom of the pot…you’ll never guess how I found this out.

Otherwise I think this is a must have item for all kitchens it make the boiling ring a usable item for smaller pots and pans.

Mine sits on my Rayburn stove ready for use on the gas hob the provided bent wire handle is just about up to the job of placement, please do this with the unit cold. Once heated it is a hazard to move the diffuser with the wire handle.

Being constructed of stove enamelled cast iron it will outlast just about anything of lesser quality.

Buy this as you’ll be surprised how often you use it.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI was really pleased to find this cast iron heat diffuser as I have tried many steel and aluminium versions in the past which have simply buckled when used. This one is a great success so far. It is ideal for longer, slower cooking where a steady, controlled hob heat is required, such as casseroles, pickles, chutneys, rice pudding, slow steaming and so on. Being cast iron, it retains the heat for a long time so I tend to switch the hob off about three quarters of the way through cooking and let the retained heat finish the cooking process. As it cools down, I then used it for keeping plates and dishes warm. For practical purposes, it has a removable metal handle which is simply inserted in a slot in the diffuser. The diffuser can be turned so that the slot is in the most convenient position for the user, e.g. left or right handed, other pans on the hob etc.

Since I have started using it, nothing has yet burnt, stuck to the pan, boiled over or boiled dry. This is a real triumph for me as I have a fierce gas hob with poor control over the flame. I intend to buy another heat diffuser the same size (21cm) and a smaller one in due course in order to be able to optimise use of the hob.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI saw this after looking at similar items made from stainless steel or even tin, and was doubtful they’d be able to withstand an open flame for any length of time. This, on the other hand, is made from the same material as the racks on gas cookers (or at least on mine), so while I’ve not used it yet, am pretty sure it’ll not warp or bend. It’s heavy, with a nice solid heft to it, and would think cast-iron is good at distributing heat evenly. It has little notches all around the ring on the bottom, so that it sits securely on the rack of my cooker. I think it should fit on any gas cooker, as the notches are evenly spaced all around the bottom. It raises the pan 1 cm above the normal height, and am intending to use it with a saucepan which is larger than 21 cm diameter, as it was largest I could find. The handle is quite basic, but does the job, feels secure when in place, and fits easily into the opening. It would’ve been nice to have a heat-proof handle, but with an oven glove or similar, it’ll be fine. Mine was a Warehouse Deal (I always look out for them, good bargains!), so I didn’t have to pay the postage, but would probably have paid it if necessary. Considering the weight of the item, it seems reasonable and the price is good, too. While it’s over 2x the price of the stainless steel ones I saw, it’s a different class, quality wise, and will doubtless last many years. As I’m always wishing I could turn the gas down further when simmering, I am sure this will be very handy for stews, soups, custard etc, so would recommend.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, heavy-weigh

Excellent – does what it says – do need to give it time to warm up though.
NB it is the size of the pan which determines if you need the large or small diffuser so we use mainly the smaller one.
Cook rice, stews or spanish omelettes without the food burning/sticking to the bottom of the pan.
The removable handle is essential for these so you can start the pan off, heat this on another ring, and then place it under the pan when the diffuser has warmed up. Once heated the temperature of the diffuser adjusts fairly quickly.
Does waste a little heat, but solves the problem of the too-large rings of modern gas cookers which can burn food.
Easy to clean, I am fairly certain these are the best designed of all the heat diffusers. Other types can end up clogged with food.
