Absolutely brilliant bird feeder my feather friends love it and will perch on it even when not feeding, so many different birds visiting my garden, will have to invest in a bird book, would not hesitate to purchase from seller agai
The sparrows love it, and empty it within minutes. Somehow, the starlings managed to sneak in too, but they can only get inside one bird at a time. Good theatre watching the garden birds enjoying themselves.
This is a great feeder for the small birds, the bigger birds have no chance of feeding from it, which was my intention, the dish is small and needs filled constantly, I have a lot of visitors to the feeder though, but it is ideal to feed the smaller birds without worrying about it being targeted by the big guys.
The sparrows and starlings love this feeder. It gives the seeds protection from the rain so they don’t go moldy, plus the magpies and crows are too big to steal the food
Looks “pretty ” it seems rathe fragile , however it has not broken so far. It takes a while for the correct height of the frame to be established for the smaller birds.
This Jacobi Jayne ILR-PF Clear Hanging Bird Feeder is great for feeding mealworms to the birds in my garden, however I feed mini mealworms and noticed they can escape through the drainage holes in the bowl. Maybe regular sized mealworms would be more suitable for this feeder but I’m going to block up the drainage holes with silicone and maybe drill some smaller holes instead.
Edit – I sealed up the drainage holes with some silicone, haven’t bothered to drill smaller holes for drainage as the domed cover does a good job of stopping rain getting into the feeding tray.
I bought this to feed my robin without all of the other larger birds being able to eat all the food. It seems to do the trick as you can change the height of the lid to make the gap smaller. I’ve only seen the robin, dunnock and a couple of sparrows on it (we have loads of sparrows) so the food does last longer.
It has also fallen off a couple of times when we have had really bad wind, and it hasn’t scratched or cracked the plastic, so really impressed with that (it fell over 1m onto hard floor). It is also really easy to clean as you can unscrew the tray off the pole to give this a good wash.
Would highly recommend this if you are wanting to feed smaller birds and especially robins as they do not tend to feed from the standard hanging feeders.
I bought this to stop ‘the luftwaffe’ ( Starlings!) from demolishing all the food! I now have blue tits, chaffinches and gold finches because they have a safe place to eat.
My resident Robin loves it and has taken ownership from day 1, in true Robin fashion fiercely defending it. Only occasionally do other singing birds including sparrows get the chance to sneak in and steal’ some food. They too have taken to the feeder from day 1 despite other feeders available in my garden.
The feeder is surprisingly sturdy and the domed roof is keeping the food reasonably dry even in wet and windy weather. I am very pleased with my purchase.
Great little product. Perfect for smaller to medium size birds (up to blackbird size) the canopy over the food tray keeps it dry and clean and is adjustable so that you can slide it up and down the central bar and set it at a height that works for your birds! As it’s transparent, you get to see all of the bird while they feed and it’s very easy to sterilise to keep the birds safe from any infections. Will be even more useful in the winter when the rain can spoil their seeds and suet pellets.
I have purchased numerous bird feeders and this by far has been the best one for me.
It can be adjusted to be used for smaller birds or made larger for bigger birds. Transparent so the birds can easily be viewed. The birds have loved it, they keep coming back and forth.
I was worried that they may not use it with it being changed, but they do. It even come with a warranty in the box. Easy to clean. Really wished I would have bought this first.
If you keep the gap as small as the Sparrow size birds need it great . One or two centimetres to much and the Jackdaws and Starlings get in . Eating all in seconds . Easy to fill . I use a metal scoop I got from Amazon . I take it down . Push apart the two glass parts . Wet kitchen roll . Dry kitchen roll . Adjust the gap to trusted level . Refill and hangout . Remember small birds like Sparrow’s fly up from below . Grasping with claws then heads up and in to help them selves to live Mealworms . If they can get a grip to the lower edge of the food bowl they can pull them selves in . Flock of about ten house Sparrows use it from sunrise till dusk . Robins and blue tits not seen using yet .
An expensive but very well made feeder, so worth investing in.
The metal parts are all non-rusting, and the plastic parts are thick and strongly made, so the feeder should last for years.
The bowl unscrews very smoothly reflecting the quality of construction and it is therefore very easy to remove it for washing.
The roof can be lowered or raised using a very clever cord grip mechanism, so the gap between the roof and the bowl can be adjusted so that bigger birds can be excluded. The tits robins, and sparrows are therefore delighted that they have their own feeder!
The only problem I had is that the hook is very open, so that when I hung it on the wire in my garden I had to use a small piece of wire to close off the opening in the hook so that the feeder doesn’t fall off the wire when it is windy.
This is the second type of feeder I have recently bought from “Jacobi Jayne I Love Robins”, and they are both of an excellent design and quality.
Have had this for a while before writing a review, it is very popular with all birds, Robins, house sparrows, blackbirds, starlings, several species of tits, even great spotted woodpecker etc. very sturdy, easy to clean, food stays dry, never fallen off the feeding station, only problem is costing a fortune as they finish all the food in it very quickly, as well as everything else on the feeding station, so I have now ordered a 2nd one in order to lower the dome further down for the smaller birds as they get mobbed by the starlings, helps that the garden to the rear is abandoned and overgrown hence a lot of birds gather along the fence line.
Nice item. Robins seem to love it, they have been using it from day one. Have put it towards the back of a hedge as the crows soon learned if they hit it hard enough, they can topple out the contents. Haven’t had it that long but seems sturdy enough. Not sure how long the black button will last, doesn’t seem as sturdy as the other parts. Easy to put together. Easy to clean. Adjusting the height can be a little difficult as it is quite stiff but better than too loose and not staying in position. The opening of the hook could be a little bigger or shaped differently. I have to turn it upside down to get it onto my shepards crook/multi branch stand. This is fine when empty but annoying when doing the weekly clean and there is still food in the tray. Overall a good product.
This is attractive and popular with the birds. The dome does a good job of keeping the food dry, and there are drainage holes in the saucer. I think it would spill food if it was hanging and being blown by the wind. I have wired it to a gate to stop movement. It’s easy to assemble, and to wash.
Cuts out all the bigger birds like pigeons, blackbirds and starlings, when you get the height of the dome right. We found that only leaving about 1″ (2.5cms) vertically between the tray and dome was best, but you might have to start higher until the small birds get used to it. I added a flat butyl washer and a tiny ‘O’-ring to the stem just above the dome as we found rain was getting in there. This keeps the food dry, but makes it much more fiddly to clean. I used a long piece of stiffish wire to hang it from a tree, and it’s been fine in high winds.
We actually bought this hoping that we could just feed the robins and blue tits, and NOT the sparrows which bully these birds off the other small-bird feeders we have -especially when live mealworms are on offer. At this it failed, but maybe we were asking too much of it.. The sparrows could get into any gap which the robins could. The blue tits were much more agile than sparrows and could get into a tiny gap. The sparrows watched them for a few hours, then copied the blue tits, flying up to the feeder and hanging off the edge, before squeezing themselves up into it. TBH we don’t use it much any more, as we have far easier to fill window feeders which the bigger birds also can’t use.
It’s small but perfect for keeping away big birds (they’re welcome but get their food separate). I’ve hung it on my Washing line that I don’t use, so no way squirrels can get to seeds. I put seeds and little pieces of bread every morning and at midday because I can’t believe how many little birds have appeared. Some species I’ve never seen in our garden before. They would empty it over and over again if I I kept filling it! Very happy with my purchase. Only once did seeds get wet the other day when it was very windy and wet. It looks cute and keeps me entertained while I wash dishes or just spend time looking at the beautiful variety of birds we are blessed with
Took 2 weeks for the birds to find this. We have a lot of magpies in our area and I have seen 2 attempt to land on the little tray but the dome got in the way and they had to fly off. Now all I see are the little birds and finally a little Robin comes most days. I put out a mix of seeds, mealy worms and sunflower hearts. It swings a lot as they land and take off as it’s quite light but the seeds stay put mostly. I have it slightly under a canopy so the squirrels can’t get at it. Lovely to watch the birds while I wash up in the kitchen! Well pleased
I already had a covered bird table in the garden. This was suddenly “discovered” by a large flock of house sparrows about two years ago.. I love watching their flutters and squabbles over some choice morsel but they effectively pushed out the smaller or more timid birds that then had to feed much later, when practically everything had been gobbled up by the pirates. I’ve hung this charming little feeder in a quince tree nearby and the blue tits, the great tits and the robins have made a most welcome comeback. The feeder will only take two birds at a time, swinging wildly, but these more acrobatic types don’t mind at all. The sparrows daren’t alight, being evidently made for more stable supports. I might even buy another, just for mealworms. Delighted.
I should like to add that I did in fact buy a second feeder, for mealworm sand crumbled fat balls, Just as popular among my habitus.
In the wintertime most of our birds seem to disappear but I still like to put something out for them. I also like to take the opportunity to clean and put away the array of other feeders I use in the spring and summer when the birds need extra food to rear their young. I also wanted something that the blackbirds might try to use rather than having to rely on helpful sparrows throwing them seeds and mealworms from the hanging feeders.
I thought this was a little bigger than it is and I even converted the size to inches so I could visualise it. I think it will do though so now having put a small assortment of treats on it I am waiting for the birds to start finding it. This feeder should be OK for blackbirds to use as they can actually land on it unlike the other hanging feeders O have which suit sparrows tit and starlings but which blackbirds cannot cling to.
Birds visited it straight away. Seems more suited for tits and robins, but that didn’t discourage some of the bigger birds from making the attempt anyway, but thankfully the dome at the top is fully adjustable with the height so I was able to collapse it down a little to discourage the bigger birds from using it, allowing the smaller ones to feed without fear of being pushed out.
The design is definitely function over form though. I was initially concerned its reflective surface would lead to birds being scared away from the garden or at least the feeder itself, but I’m happy to have been proven wrong. I’ve hung one from the washing line, and placed another from the small tree / bush / thing growing at the bottom of the garden, and both seem like popular spots – looks a lot better covered under a bush though, the shade almost renders it invisible, so that’s most likely its intended placement.
Very good little feeder, I’m glad to have bought it, for sure.
I didn’t know what to expect – never do when buying bird feeders online however, this is absolutely adorable and a must, MUST need for your little friends in your garden!!!
This is a reasonable size that you can adjust the height with (not much, but enough to get different size small birds).
I expected the Starlings to use this the most , which I do not minds, as they are one my of favourites, however, I was surprised to see that the Sparrows, Blue and Yellow Tits uses this too!!! (Species I get where I live…)
What I love about this feeder is that, compared to my old worming feeder, more than one can sit on it and eat at the same time, instead of fighting for the one spot!!!
I have found when filling to the Max of food, there’s hardly no spillage (for me, personally), which is great.
And, lastly, the food you put in it gets protected by the all kinds of weather!!!!
I’ve actually enjoyed this purchases – it’s added a bit of glamour to my garden, as I find it that neat and nice.
Happy for everybody, all year round.
