Easy to clean brush after( water based paint) bit of drag applying. Covers well. I tend to do two coats were ever there maybe a dark colour. But all in all good paint for the price.
This paint gives excellent results and lives up to its description of being a primer/undercoat.
The only problem I had with this paint was actually cleaning the brushes afterwards, for some reason they just wouldn’t clean properly and I ended up throwing them away.
I’ve never liked water based gloss so have seldom used it and have never used water based undercoat at all before. I needed undercoat in a hurry so thought I’d try some of this. It was awful to use. It went on well enough but left deep and obvious ‘tracks’ in the surface. I thought it would flatten off as it dried as it was the top of a wooden window cill so it was a horizontal surface. It didn’t smooth off at all and left a really ugly surface which looked like a ploughed field.
I spent a while rubbing down but still it showed the deep lines. I decided to thin the paint as it seemed a bit thick. This did go on a bit smoother but didn’t settle enough to disguise the first coat’s surface. All told it was a very unhappy experience which I hope not to repeat and shall be finding some good old high VOC, smelly undercoat as soon as I can.
I am currently working my way through my home decorating it bit by bit – and on a very tight budget.
I have an old tiled closed fireplace and since I cannot afford to have it removed, I am attempting to make it a more focal point. So far some years ago, I sprayed it with a stone tile paint and that had become seriously vile looking (see picture one, but not before you eat). So I am back to painting it.
I wanted a primer and undercoat in one, because I’m not getting any younger and life is too short to paint layer after layer and this tin fit the bill in price, size and both in one go. The only concern I had is that it is advertised as wood and metal and I had previously sprayed tiles.
I am so glad I gave it a go though. Its a perfect size for my project, and after scrubbing the fireplace with sugar soap, it adhered well and gave excellent cover – the second photo is just one coat.
I added some wooden decor items to my fireplace and this covered them perfectly too, so I am ready now to cover the centre bricked area and paint the rest of the fireplace with hardly any effort.
I have 2 dogs and am always concerned about paint fumes, but there was little to none with this also and my dogs weren’t affected.
(disclaimer: I am not saying that this is great for any old tile. I think the previous coat of spray paint may have helped in this instance as the tiles had lost their smooth shiny facing. Best listen to the manufacturers on this maybe)
Overall very happy with the result and still have loads left over to give my outside rail a refresh later this month.
