These optical smoke detectors are so easy to install. The base has two keyhole slots for the fixing screws. Put the head on the base with a small twist, press the test button, take the protective cap off, press the test button and it’s done. The sealed battery won’t require changing for a long time.
I’ve knew Kidde fire alarms from years in building services, so I was happy to choose them.
It beeps (when tested or new batteries added) – My dog hates it.
Hopefully it will prevent me burning to a crisp in my sleep if I fall asleep while making pizza – what more do you need?
This smoke alarm replaces a continually bleeping old smoke alarm. It is of slightly different dimensions as compared with the previous model but I was able to use one of the old screw holes. My home now has three smoke alarms and I feel is safe agai
It’s a detector. It does what a detector does. Thats as helpful as a person can be. It not like in collecting them like Amazon seemed to think I am with anything else I’ve ever bought.
It didn’t fit the previous mounting brackets, but then it didn’t claim to.
It took a minute or two to work out how to join the device to the bracket, but once that was sorted it only remained to affix the bracket, requiring a new screw hole, and attach the device.
The minimal text instructions is no doubt to reduce translation issues. It didn’t require any force to attach to its bracket.
Ask me in a few years about the battery life :-).
It’s a smoke detector so not much more to say! I’ve used this particular model before and it’s worked perfectly. They are quite small which is a bonus.
I guess I would say that they are a little fiddly to twist into their base once it’s been mounted on the ceiling (there is an indicator mark on the side of the base and smoke detector as a guide). There also appears to be a button on the base of the detector that is held down when it is secured into the base so I’d make sure it’s secured properly and looks even all the way around. Once it’s installed you probably won’t need to remove it for 10 years and only need to touch it when testing or cleaning it.
These are sealed units and the battery should last for 10 years and if it doesn’t, it’s covered by Kidde’s 10 year warranty.
An update three months later. All four smoke alarms are working very well and one has just potentially saved my house. I was drying out logs on top of my log burner. I know! Stupid!!! But thanks to my smoke alarm, it picked up the smouldering logs before I even could smell the smouldering and I was sat right next to them. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Also very easy to stop the loud alarm by just pressing the hush button on the middle of the exposed surface.
