This has a 3 wire chocky block inside it so nowhere for earth. I had to add another single chocky block for my earth.
Also, if you’re using T&E for the power source, you’re gonna make up about 3000 new swear words.
I had to wire 3 of these in and after the first, I decided to use flex inline with a waterproof connector so I had more flexibility inside the box.
Seriously, if this wiring space was 5mm taller, there would be no issue.
They work as advertised but will see if they are ip65 after this winter.
Easy to install with a 3 core cable if you know what to do as others have stated not a great amount of room to wire up to the chocolate block then realised it pulled up , anyway it works fine I covered with a over hang of wood for additional weather protection. The time is probably around 15 seconds more but who’s counting it does the job fine.
I had to replace an external PIR that operated a courtesy light at our front door. Many such sensors have an IP44 protection from the ambient conditions. This one is IP56. It seems to be much more reliable about responding to genuine triggers, but does not seem to respond to cold weather stormy weather that triggered early sensors I had.
This sensor looks and works really well, the sensor head is very adjustable to look where you want it to and the light sensitivity and ON time adjustment are all very good. The physical mounting is also quite straightforward but you should be aware the price you pay for a small sleek device is a very small area for the electrical connection. There is no chance of taking the twin and earth supply directly to this, you will need to come from a junction box with a thinner flex to connect and allow the unit to mount on its base.
Other than this it is a very good unit.
– It’s only really got space for 3+1 cable
– The wires need to be trimmed reasonably short. It’s not too bad but there’s no room for spare lengths of wire
– The earth needs wrapping with tape
– The connector block needs to end up being the right way round to clip into two plastic prongs
This allows you to push the case tight and screw in a very small screw into a hard to align hole without dropping it.
It’s all possible. It would have been easier with a bit more space and the fastening screw on top.
If this freaks you out, connect a short length of cable to the PIR when down on the ground, stick it through the wall, then connect it with a maintenance free junction box.
Once installed it has worked well detecting motion. My only issue is only one hole exists to push the wires through. As we need two sets of wires , one from the mains and the other to the light, there is not enough room to fit so had to drill a second hole. Also sealed the back with silicon as the existing seal appeared to have gaps, as little room for the wires.
For the most part easy to install, wiring tip:- pull the connection block off the pegs and you can easily wire up (see photo) it’s a nice neat surface flush mount ok if concealed wires but running wire to the PIR is more fiddler, ok if you install over a motive line. That said a nice quality for the price and at 30secs it was 30secs. Buy it!
I found them (I bought two) slightly difficult to get the wires into and closed up again, but the other side of that is that they are neat little units. Happy with end result. They look neat and are working well.
I liked the IP65 reading, as I have had other ones with a lower rating that have not lasted well. This is the second one I have bought. The first is near the flue of my boiler and often gets the steam plume over it, and I do notice a drop of water inside the front glass bit. But it is fine at the moment. These things should be made totally watertight and airtight.
I repaired an old outdoor lantern with a broken PIR using this motion detector. It works very well but was very difficult to install because of the tiny space into which the connections have to fit whilst still maintaining its waterproof integrity. It took me a long time and a lot of frustration to get it right. Now that it’s done it is very good.
Not a lot of cable room in the back, but with a bit of patience it’s sorted. Work fine up to press even picking movement up at 14 mtrs . I would recommend these.
I bought two of these to replace some older partially working unbranded ones.
They work well wired up in parallel – both outdoors – 1 under an external porch ceiling and one on vertical wall. I had no problems wiring them nor fixing them together to maintain the (hopefully) IP65 seal. (Time will tell!)
Nice easy to turn (and see) adjustments
I installed three of these motion detectors. For security, yes but also for convenience.
They were easy to wire up to the three LED floodlights that I bought from Amazon making excellent value for money.
Now, when I am going to/from the car the driveway is illuminated very well, similarly if I (or anyone else) moves around the property at night, these detectors trigger the floodlight.
There is good adjustment for range sensitivity and also the adjustment of the time that the floodlight stays activated (the preferred time is from the moment that the last movement was detected).
You will need to be really quite adept at wiring in a confined space if you are to find this easy at the top of a rickety ladder fixing it to your security light’s electric supply. This was fitted by an expert electrician and he agreed with the electricians who have fed back her that installation that maintains weather resistance is not for the inexperienced.
The clue is that the seller has asked for the “sheerness” to be scored by the reviewer (me). Because it is too sheer, I scored it one star for that. It is certainly a discrete product and it works really well and it’s weather sealing is reassuring when studied first hand and it is also excellent in practice (high up in UK Pennines where 4 previous products IP65 have failed within 12 months in prevailing weather). But that’s only because the electrician spent 30 minutes working out how to sort out the junction box whilst keeping the seals.
Installation was a bit fiddly as there is not much room in the connector part.
However once done and tested I’m quite happy with it.
How reliable it is will be seen over the long term and i will update if necessary.
This was a replacement for my bathroom light switch. Simple to install and hassle free. More hygienic than a pull cord and no more thumbling around in the dark searching for the light switch. Great if you have kids or have mirrors and shower screens that could be damaged by heavy weighted pull cords.
This product worked well for me I amusing it on a bathroom extract fan as I was restricted to get supply from above ceiling rose so I used this sensor and works perfect. Also it has easy access to its occupancy sensor and timing adjustments.
it looks good and neat I don’t know who reliable it will be I hope its ok I am sick of electrical stuff failing after just a few months .back in the 1980s stuff lasted but it cost a lot more money back then and was a lot bigger ,I still have stuff from the 1980s that works now {hifi stuff}
