Bought this for my class and they love playing with it each week.
Great game but can be a little tricky for smaller children to pull out gems as sometimes gets stuck. But fun game for all and scare when get the ink is a good fun time for all
If your wondering about getting this like I was then I say get it now! It’s brilliant and actually fun for everyone. Very happy with it.
Top game for a wide age range. Well worth the money
Got this for a gift for my son who now wont leave it alone, hours of fun with all ages.
Bought as a gift. Not given yet. Instructions look easy to play. Im sure be fun to play
great fun and simple game. no batteries needed either which is always a good thing!!
My son loves this, although even for me it’s quite fiddly to put the gems back in. Hence 4 not 5 stars
Bought for my grandson, well packaged sure he will have great fun.
we played this as a family on christmas day and it was a winner. nice bit of light fu
Got this for my 4 year old, told her it was a game and she asked me how do you plug it into the TV.
She enjoyed it more than I thought she would, but even for a 4 year old its too easy, so limited replay value.
This is a fun family game that has been thoroughly enjoyed by both adults and children.
its similar in idea to buckeroo or operation where you have to gently remove the gems.
Lots of fun and laughter – would definitely recommended
The aim of the game is to collect the gems before Inky the Octupus wakes up. The winner is the one with the most jewels.
It is a simple designed game and my kids do have fun playing with it. It doesn’t hold their interest for a long while. What I do like about it is my kids seem less concerned about how many jewels they get individually but work together to get as many as they can to beat Inky.
It’s ok.
This is a game similar in style to buckaroo. You are meant to retrieve the gems from Inky the octopus without disturbing him, if you do, you lose. Its really easy to setup and explain the concept to young children and as there is a certain amount of luck involved in the game, it can be played by any ages together. My two loved it and were happy enough playing it for nearly an hour. Once done, it all stores neatly away in the game itself which is a bonus.
No doubt many of you have played the fun but infuriating game of Buckaroo, well this one is of a similar vein, but not quite so frustrating and a bit more fun.
The gist of the game is that you have an Octopus and a bunch of different coloured ‘gems’ which plug into the front of the toy. You then have to remove the gems carefully, which is not quite as simple as it sounds as the ‘pins’ on the bottom of the gems feature twists and turns and if you catch the gem it will cause the Octopus’s mouth to open and a squid looking rubber creature to be fired at the player. If you are successful turn goes to the next player who has to remove the next gem etc…
Overall for kiddies this is a great deal of fun and cause of laughter as I found out when we had a very windy and wet day while my nephews were visiting. It helped make a miserable day into fun filled day of joy.
Assembly of the toy is very simple, the head comes separate to the body, but simply clips into the body. You then insert all the gems into their holes, push the squid into the spring loaded assembly in the octopus’ mouth and close the mouth. Best part is, there are no batteries required!!!
Great kiddies game/toy 🙂
This is a take on those games like Buckeroo, Pie Face etc. It’s a game of chance and suits all ages from 5-85!
Each person needs to remove a gem from the octopus when he is asleep. However you may wake him up and he defends his lair by firing ink at you! Don’t worry it is just a plastic lump of ink so no mess to clean up. The winner at the end of the game has the most jewels.
My only slight niggle is the gems looks like massive sperm (but that’s maybe because I used to work in sexual health lol!)
A decent enough game which young children will learn how to play really quickly and makes for a fun family game. I’m happy to recommend.
This is a fun simple game to keep your child occupied at home. The ‘treasures’ gems come with winding roots that you need to be careful to twist and turn it out without pulling the panel up, if the panel is pulled by accident it will ‘wake’ Inky up and squirt out ink. Whoever collected the most gems without waking Inky up is the winner. Mattel is always the brand for these kind of simple fun games.
This is another one of those games where you have to be careful not to wake the sleeping monster (in this case an octopus) so it relies on stealth and quite a bit on pure chance. It’s random whether or not the octopus springs and shoots the plastic inky glob at you, so it depends on assembling the structure correctly in the first place. It can be great fun for young children, mainly because of the anticipation, but the novelty would soon wear off and I can’t imagine them wanting to play it more than a few times before it gets put to the back of the toy cupboard. You have to be very careful when twisting the gems off, so maybe very young children should practice without the octopus in position so that it doesn’t cause tears of frustration. In any case at nearly 25 it’s pretty expensive.
This is definitely a fun and exciting game for younger children. The octopus ‘Inky’ is fantastic and he’s a nice size and being animated and waking up is a really fun element, similar to ‘Don’t Wake Dad’ , ‘Pop Up Pirate’ or ‘Crocodile Dentist’ which we have where doing something can trigger the Octopus randomly.
The aim of the game is to try to ‘steal’ his jewels by carefully twisting them out without waking him up, and if you do his eyes jerk awake and a plastic ink blob toy shoots out which ius very funny, my 3 year old is terrified of him as it makes her jump and she won’t touch the jewels now but my other children find it hilarious and the aim is to keep taking jewels until he wakes up and whoever has the most is the winner.
It’s a very simple, easy game, with no rules to grasp. It would be better if there was a board involved which maybe told you how many jewels to try and take each time and you can roll the dice with various consequences to give it more play value. Some of the games end up being very short as it triggers early on but my children enjoy it and play it amongst themselves, you also can’t really cheat with it so no squabbling from them either which is great!!
A fun and original game, especially for younger children as it’s easy to understand and play!
Played this game this morning with my son. I am a fan of games by Mattel so had high hopes. It reminds me of the old pop up pirate or buckaroo where at any moment something can spring into action. In this case it’s the octopus when you try and take his gems. The winner is who collected the most gems — however getting the gems out involves strategy and patience. Up to 4 plays can play, but to be honest my son played it on his own after just trying to get the gems out without upsetting the octopus. It’s a game that you can replay again and again without getting too bored as you never know when he will fire his ink. Made me jump a few times as well. Great family fun.
Any one that can remember games like Buckaroo, Kerplunk, Pop up Pirate will see a familiar theme in Inky’s Fortune.
There are small parts but providing you are supervising this in my opinion should be fine for 3-4 years and up.
There is some genuine anticipation in youngsters waiting for the Ink splurge to come jumping out when Inky wakes.
Great simple to play and a lot of fun for younger kids!
This game looks interesting and colourful, it is a very easy game to play you connect the head to the body, twist the gems in and then put the plastic ink in.
When playing the first few games the ink popped out on the first gem, but we soon realised its because we wasn’t doing it slow enough and you have to slowly twist them out not just pull them.
To remove the head so you can store it back in the box is a little bit hard, you have to grip the bottom of the base and pull as hard as you can on the head straight up.
This is a fun game once you get the hang of it, my kids thought it was hilarious when the ink popped out and his eyes opened.
I gave 4 stars as i think it is a little expensive for what it is.
This game is great fun, it was easy to assemble and get ready to play. It was fairly easy to twist most of the gems into place, a couple were a little difficult to put in. To insert ‘inky’s ink’ you lift up the Inky octopus and push until you hear a click sound.
When playing the game, I got caught out three times in a row, I did find it quite hard to remove a few of the gems, this may be hard for a young child, which may cause inky’s ink to be released. You have to twist to put to remove them, which does takes some patience.
When the ink is released it does make you jump, especially when his eyes open too! His eyes close when you put the ink into place.
This is a game of pure chance. There is no skill at all needed. The octopus hides an inky squid in his mouth which shoots out randomly as you pick out the treasure one by one.
The grandsons thought this was hilarious and loved it when the squid shot out. Getting the treasures back into the holes in front of Inky is a bit fiddly we found and some went in better than others.
Unfortunately Inky and his treasure no longer fit in the box it came in once the head is on the base. This means you have to keep the treasures in the base and keep it set up and store it like that.
This is simple fun and the game has limited interest for older children but the grandsons aged 4 and 5 thought it was hilarious fu
Delivered by Amazon (poor driver had to carry 7 parcels and open the gate)
Inky’s Fortune is a fantastic family fun game.
As you can see Inky is an Octopuss, he’s asleep and you have to steal his gems by twisting and pulling them without waking him up, if you do his eyes open and his front tentacles lift up and spit out black ink* at you.
*The black ink isnt actually ink its a plastic toy.
To play firstly all of the gems are placed in their holes on the seabed in front of Inky, the aim is to take turns pulling them out of the sand without waking him.
This reminds me a little of buckeroo but in the sea. My grandkids are going to love playing this, although I’m not sure the youngest ones will have the patience.
24.99 is reasonable for a game that doesn’t require anything but patience recommended for children aged 5 and up its Sea-sational
The game is targeted at children 5/6 plus, however, given the games my young grandchildren
currently play I have every confidence that with participation and indeed guidance from Mum
and Dad the children though below the recommended age will love the game.
A game of skill-building and patience as you try to steal Inky’s treasures without waking him
up.
Grown-up participation recommended for younger ones as there are very small and colourful
pieces/ gem-stones.
Footnote –
My nearly five and three and a half-year-old grandchildren quickly got the hang of the game, my
daughter reckons the target-age of 5 plus is probably too high and believes the game more fun
for those below the guidline age.
