We brought this for our new build garden, which just didn’t want to grow grass in some places. Following the instructions on the bag, we finally have managed to cover up the patches. I recommend following the instructions carefully otherwise it won’t work. Worth spending that extra money for this one, it took a little longer to grow in some places, but garden looking much better now!
Quick and easy instructions, didn’t cover as much as it said in the tub, maybe my bald spots were bigger than most, installed six days ago and the grass is already growing!
Easy to see when need watering due to the colour change of the coir!
Pretty much guaranteed to grow so i can recommend for difficult areas and spots damaged by pets. It works out quite expensive though and the big plastic containers seem a bit excessive in this day and age
This works great but you must follow the instructions and keep it damp once spread in order for the seeds to geminate.
It works really well at filling in patches, sorry no before and after pictures.
When applied it will appear a light brown in colour and when wet this will turn dark brown which is what you want so keep an eye on it and keep it nice and mois
Does a good job but it is not as simple as throwing it on the floor, make sure you dig it out and put some compost there, you will probably find that this grass patch grows faster than the rest of the grass though due to the high quality grasses used.
Got this to patch my lawn which had died off during the winter flooding.
Easy to use, although I’d also use peat to cover the seed. It stopped the birds eating the seed. Shake well before use, and water. Follow instructions and voila, revived law
Really easy to use to fix up bald patches on the lawn.
Does take a couple of weeks to start seeing results as opposed to the few days advertised. Grass grew healthy and thick.
Look at the before and after photos. Alot of the grass has already grown back and the small patches also have growth. Great product very easy to use. Main think keep watering daily.
Between the dog and the endless leaf fall from the Oak outside our house, my lawn needs some support in being green and luscious. I’ve used the Miracle Grow patch repair for a while now and always notice an improvement. This year has been slightly slower than previous but I’m persevering still. Would recommend for anyone with patches in their lawn.
I am really delighted with this product. I had a round patch about 10cm on my newly turfed lawn. I applied it 3 weeks ago & covered it with some netting. (Although a couple of robins tried their best to get to the seed through the net). Today it is great. Can’t even see where the original patch was. I have another couple of patches which I will be doing soon.
This has proven to be the most reliable grass seed, in shade, poor clay soil, and under direct sun. It’s more expensive and you need more than you think because a good proportion of it is the applicator (which is brilliant at helping you to know when to water, if applying late spring/summer, when drying out is a risk).
Have used before. Very reliable. This time round, 7 days in and already signs of good strong growth. Just remember to keep the patches well watered particularly in a heat wave.
Fortunately, I used this a few months before the drought set it in; unfortunately all the patches as well as the rest of the lawn now look brown.
Timing aside this was easy to apply needing a light rake over the worn out area and then sprinkle over the top. I also lightly tamped down the mixture to ensure contact with the soil.
It took a bit longer than the prescribed 4 days for the first shoots to appear but daily watering over 10 days provided noticeable growth over I’d say 75% of the mixture I’d laid down. After a few more weeks half of the mixture was growing strongly and the other half was a bit patchy but that could be down to the poor soil my lawn covers.
Overall I’d say it does work if well and constantly watered but it is expensive per sq m so use judicially.
Easy to use and maintain, instructions state you can simply rake and spread with some aftercare. I would recommend using some topsoil after spreading to let the seeds take hold better.
Decent value for money and easier to use than most patch grass seed but just make sure you continue with the aftercare.
I was a bit sceptical about this as like most I read loads of reviews before I buy anything.
Well what can I say, I’m glad I did buy it.
It was so easy to use, follow instructions basically scrape down to the top soil in the patchy area and just add a very thin covering of this patch magic.
I did water it everyday so it didn’t dry out as well. As you can see from the photos the results are great, the area was all down to the mud due to our puppy trying to dig holes in the grass. Also I have 2 big dogs when are constantly out in the garden so wasn’t sure if this would work. As you can imagine trying to keep dogs off the new area is a nightmare so I just left it.
This was done on the 1st of April so around a month ago, I’m very happy with the results so far I will now be using it on the rest of the garden. It still has a little more to grow but really happy with the results
Nothing happened for a week. Thought I’d wasted my money too after reading some reviews. As a last chance I watered more (daily when it didn’t rain) and after 3 weeks 9/10 patches (all 3-6inchs) gone, 1/10 still ropey but the soil was thin there. I raked the patches, removed the moss, added this stuff, then covered with compost soil. Seemed to work this time for me and better than expected on shallow soil along the edge of a pathway where there’s concrete foundation.
Read many negative reviews before purchasing however decided to try anyway. Had used After Cut All in One three weeks prior (7th May) which had killed all the weeds but left many bare areas so had concerns the seed might not germinate due to leftover weedkiller (product advises 4-6 week wait). Purchased two 1kg packs of Patch Magic, one sealed in October the other sealed in April. Raked the area to loosen soil and used the product as described, watered 3-4 times a day due to 25C+ degree temperatures, however, didn’t let the soil become waterlogged. Noticed ‘nothing’ for four full days and the birds enjoyed eating the seed so became sceptical. Morning of day 5 (full sun patch) very small ‘red/green’ shoots which were easy to miss appeared, by 5pm on day 5 they became 1cm green shoots, I was very surprised at how quick they grew. Day 6/7, even more, shoots appearing and beginning to show in shaded areas which appeared to germinate slower than full sun areas. Overall very happy as each blade represents 1 square inch of growth once fully developed. Only negative is that you don’t get much in a pack , would require 3-4kg of product to cover a 35 meter square area where as 1kg bag of high-quality seed would easily do the whole lawn combined with loosened top soil. Negative reviews I guess are related to bad PH levels or Weedkiller being present in the soil or possibly a dud poorly stored batch? Hope someone finds this review useful.
I was firstly unsure whether to purchase this product as there was a mix bag of reviews, however the majority being good, I decided based on the majority that I would make the purchase.
The seeds were for a section of my back garden that had just been levelled out and a big scrub removed, so ultimately I had big section of soil in a shaded area. I started by adding top soil to the section where to the area of seeding. Raked the soil into the rest of the surface area as you do, in then spread loads of the patch magic seeds into the soil then raked again so that it would all mesh in together, well hoping anyways. I’m new to all this so assumed it would be the right thing to do. Once raked and seeds spread out I lightly watered the area and hoped for the best.
I have been watering the area once, sometimes twice a day as the last few weeks have been fairly warm and dry!
It took about a week to see any sprouts but I’m now 3 weeks in and I can see lots of grass 🙂 it has rained loads today so that is great and can’t wait to see what it looks like in a couple more weeks! Great product.
Oh I forgot to mention this was in a shaded area!
