I wanted this game for my five year old Grandson..but I particularly wanted the English version ( with the blue boat) as it has ‘May Fair’ (picture of a fairground) and ‘Park Lane’ ( picture of a park) as opposed to other versions which have, instead ‘Boardwalk’! A good introduction to the timeless Monopoly game and also teaches ‘finance’ skills .
Bought this as a gift. It is a great way to get your little one into board games, because monopoly teaches them strategy and business sense and how to control money.
Its my favourite game of all time and i happily sat and played this. It is also a really great way of keeping them quiet for hours.
I thought this game was quite simple and that it wouldn’t hold my chidlren’s attention for long but they both love playing it. They are 5 and 7 and the simplification of the money is easy for them to understand and makes the game really enjoyable for them.
Played this with a 7-year old and a 5-year old, both of whom loved it. It’s very simple and easy to play. My one problem with it is the money – the actual paper feels like quite poor quality and they just want to stick together, made it hard to count out. Was also unhappy at being trounced by the 5-year old, but I guess I can’t mark the game down for that…
I have not played Monopoly in years (although the 35 year old set is in the loft) but we bought this for my seven year as a birthday present.
Excellent choice, hours of fun because the games are generally shorter but said 7 year old takes it very seriously and as for my 13 year old he really does take it too seriously.
If it where not for the fact that you cannot really play it outside (wind) I would take it on holiday as well.
I bought it for my daughter(7) and son(3) and they both get it. They laugh when they have a pile of cash coming in and suck when they’ve got none.
The game has been very cleverly simplified. The squares are made attractive to children, instead of street names or areas they have generic business activities like “Swimming Pool”, “Sweet Shop” and “Bowling Alley”. So the children learn to own businesses for income. I like the generic naming and although I haven’t tried the others I think I would prefer that to a themed version like Disney Princesses or Minions etc which might distract from the lessons hidden inside.
They moaned at me for having a stack of cash while I landed on “Just visiting jail”, “Chance” and “Free Parking” etc but then saw the consequences of not having any money invested.
In my case they are thought to hand over the money with gratitude “$2 dollars for a delicious pizza!. Thank you very much”
It’s played out very simply with a lot of the decision making removed. If you land on a free square you must buy it. The game is over when a person goes bankrupt and can’t pay a bill. The player with the most money wins. The game lasts about 20 mins which works out to be perfect.
The build quality of the board is good thick durable cardboard. The pieces are chunky and colourful.
I can’t think of any downsides to mention! An all round winner for anyone new to Monopoly.
Love this game … My 7 yr old loves it – my 4.5 yr old can play it too (though with a little extra patience required). My nephews (9&8) & niece (6) all think it’s great. I’ve just bought a second set for a birthday present for my niece. Really great & fun game for all.
After playing My Little Pony Junior Monopoly with a friend’s daughter, I bought the classic version for my daughter’s 6th birthday and she loves it. It is an excellent way to introduce kids to Monopoly – it is quick and easy to play (only takes about 15 mins), introduces key skills like maths in a really fun way and is enough like the original Monopoly to entertain adults too. The characters are engaging, the properties are appealing for kids (toy shop, ice cream parlour etc) and the money aspect is easy to grasp.
Great take on the classic and will get my neices learning how to cheat their way through life by dodging jail and searching for free parking where ever they can! I just can’t wait until they’re old enough so I can destroy them with over inflated rent prices while me as the older generation buys up more and more getting richer and richer, meaning they’ll never get out of povity and eventually end up broken, defeated begging for handouts until finally they admit defeat and bankruptcy.
We could also play the adult game of monopoly together.
Very popular with the young children (4 – 6years) it was bought for. They can understand the game and it doesn’t last too long that they get bored. No houses or hotels to worry about and the rent for landing on the square is the same as you pay for it. It does have a slightly more advanced rules, if they get used to it to make it more challenging.
his is great, much quicker than the adult version so you can have a few games rather than one very long one.
Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because it could do ith some dividers in the box to keep the pieces tidy.
Wow, this game really exceeded my expectations. It is an amazingly well simplified version of Monopoly that little ones can enjoy too hence great fun for all the family. It doesn’t take too long to finish a game so holds attention until the end. Properties are fun locations like sweet shop and swimming pool etc. which kids can relate to. Money simplified too so they can work out values and rents easily. My 4 year old son absolutely loves this. It has been a huge hit with out family and I am sure will get lots of use!
This is a game of pure chance. You make no decisions, really, just throw the dice and do what you must. Small kids enjoy it, though, as that’s their kind of game. So, while personally I see no point in the game, just because it is very well accepted by kids (5 years old and around) I can recommend it.
A new firm family favourite. Easy enough for our four year old to learn and play the rules, great introduction to counting and dealing with money as well as basic game rules. Great fun for adults too and plenty of scope to add your own family rules of you want to. Great family fun, highly recommend
Great game,
Played it with my 5 and 3 yr old last night and they loved it.
It’s also not hugely time consuming and it holds their attention.
I left work with the children asking to play and waiting for me to get home to do so!
Bought it to play with my sons…they love it…best introduction to Monopoly…which is a great game…kids will learn that money is needed to buy things…but rent must also be payed…the pieces are well done and are very sturdy…and the chance cards are pretty easy to follow and understand…great game… I would highly recommend it…
his is a great introduction to monopoly, basically a simplified version of the original with a smaller board, less properties, not as much money (only 1 notes). helps the little ones understand maths, decisions, and consequences. its nice because you can actually finish a game in 20-30mins, so its not the endless infinite games that we grew up on.
conclusion:
would i buy this again? yes.
Such a very loved game, we have had excellent value for money from this. It has not deteriorated with regular use over the past two years and it is great to play a board game when you are not feeling imaginative/energetic for role playing but want to spend time with your child.
Absolutely brilliant! My 5 year old went through a phase of wanting to play board games constantly and monopoly was one of the first ones I thought of after playing it for years as a child myself. I bought the junior monopoly in the hopes that the games wouldn’t last as long as the original monopoly and so he wouldn’t get bored halfway through. My son absolutely loved playing this and we played for about 2 hours every single day for the first week after it arrived. We now have monopoly nights on a Saturday where my son takes great pleasure in beating both me and his dad! The characters are fun and easy for little hands to hold and the game concept is simple enough for young children to understand.
Some people moan it is quite a short game? Well it is if you follow the rules that you have to buy property you land on but if you are not scared of the Monopoly Police and Hasbro Gaming federal agents kicking to your door in then allow the kids to buy the property when they like, it is a great game and the kids love i
Great game for all the family. Even my 4 year old can grasp how it works, although her attention wanes towards the end of the game. A cracking introduction to a classic game. In some ways, this is better than the full version as it’s faster paced and less easy to get bankrupted by 1 person!
This is a superb family game. Played with a 5 year old and a 9 year old and is fantastic fun and a great introduction to Monopoly. It’s essentially a super simplified version of regular Monopoly that moves along pretty quickly, meaning that you can complete a game relatively quickly. Highly recommended.
This has gone down very well with my 6 year old nephew and his 3 year old sister. Very simplified version of adult monpoly but just as fun. The banking system is very stripped back but money is still used. Great, many hours passed playing it…would definitely recommend for children 3+
Have bought 3 of these now they really are a hit with the children. My 3 year old loves it and so does the 7 year old. The only downside is the money is of a low denominater, other than that highly recommended.
Great game for little ones! Lots of fun and easy rules and doesn’t last for hours like the full version of monopoly does.
Game arrived in great time and in lovely condition and my little brother loved opening it on Christmas Day!
Would recommend as a great family board game that lasts just long enough.
Excellent game and introduction to the standard version. My kids (5 and 7) both love playing it. It’s simple but keeps the essence of the standard game. Importantly too the game does not go on for hours. We end the game when the first person is out; the winner is the person with the most assets (i.e. adding property value and cash)
My 5yr old picked this up really well, but after a few games thought we should have just got the adult version. He really loves it though and we’ve played it constantly since Christmas! Packaging could be improved, nothing has a special place in the box and is all muddles together every time you want to play and the tags you use to make your properties should be able to secure as the board gets jogged constantly by young kids and everything moves.
This is ok for younger players and my 2 youngest had fun for a while but I think they’re now ready for the big boy Monopoly as this doesn’t hold their interest for long.
What a fabulous family game – probably the favourite at the moment in our house and has been since Xmas. It’s a great introduction to the world of Monopoly for children and our 6 and 5 year old boys got the idea and rules very very quickly and thoroughly enjoyed racing around the simplified board. It has all the usual elements (jail/chance cards/money etc.) but is just a much simpler and quicker variety of game. I enjoyed playing it too and have bought it for friends of our children as it’s been such a hit for us as a family. An average game lasts around 20 mins so we end up usually playing two rounds but it keeps their enthuisasm and attention which is no mean feat for two young boys ! Also reinforces counting, taking turns and reading so all good from a parents perspective too.
I lived in fear of the day my children wanted Monopoly remembering those 4 hour sessions when I was a kid and not having a clue what a mortgage was or why I had to pay a fine for bank arrears. Luckily this Junior version takes strips the game right back and most games last no longer than half an hour. There are no taxes, no mortgages, no multiple property portfolios or anything that might confuse a younger player. Chance cards are more along the lines of “you ate too many sweets – pay 2 to the bank” which my kids find hilarious as they munch through their Haribo’s whilst playing. My daughter is 7 and this is now her favourite game.
Had a good couple of games so far with our 4 year old (soon to be 5).You need to assist young kids during the game, unless they are at the age whereby they can read the Chance cards by themselves.
All the notes are in single units, so counting is easy (although you may have wished there were some 5, 10 and 20 notes too). It’s pretty much a game of luck, this version.
I bought this for my little boy’s 5th birthday and he has played with it non stop since! Very easy for younger ones to follow, it’s not as long as original monopoly and seems to keep his attention. It is very easy to understand and was simple to explain to him how to play and all of the rules. The packaging and board are very good quality all of the tokens/cards are easy for him to handle. Also great for helping with counting and adding. Exce;llent value for money and would recommend to anyone!
Great little game and much shorter than the adult version. My 7 year old loves monopoly but sometimes I don’t have the patience to see out a full game of the adult version as it can take ever so long with so many permutations. So I thought I would get this game. I am so so pleased we did as it is a much simpler version that still keeps all of us entertained but lasts only about 30 or so minutes per game. It is so simple that even my nearly 4 year old can join in (with a little help). I would definitely recommend this to anyone with children who like Monopoly and we have since bought this as a present for friends.
We have this as a Xmas present for our friends’ son who was almost 4 at the time, he loved it and insisted on playing with his patents every night. We now had given this to quite a few friends and finally bought it for our son last Xmas.
It’s a great way to entertain kids and recommend it if you want to have some fun when you are entertaining your children!
The original game is great for adults and teens, but lasts forever! This Junior version has almost all the excitement of the complete version, but last 10-15 minutes a game, which is great with smaller kids, a current hit with our two kids (7 & 11) which we play during our family game hour each day. A great starting point for kids on their way to the real Monopoly world.
This was bought as a Christmas present for the 6 year old but we all ended up playing it and having a good time as a family. Always has been a good game and this is a good d way to get the younger ones atrted
A much simplified version of Monopoly which is a good introduction for youngsters. It is very simple, easy to pick up the rules and can be played reasonably quickly (I can remember playing original Monopoly for endless boring hours as a child) . As the money is only in single units, it is easy for the under 7s to get the hang of buying and selling.
We bought it so that we could play some board game with our 4,5-year-old that all of Us enjoys. This game was a perfect choice.
It`s simple enough for my daughter to understand, but it`s also cute, playful and varied enough for all of Us to enjoy.
Little ones can also practice simple mathematics doing the money counting.
I would recommend it to all families with Young kids.
I have never left a product review before but felt I had to for junior monopoly. Bought this for my 7 year old sons birthday and it is great. Our 3 year old played along with help. I like how it’s short and fairly quick compared to the adult version. We played the advanced rules where if a player is bankrupt they can sell their property to get cash. I would definitely recommend this for a family game. I would say more suited to probably aged 4 or 5 to aged 8/9
