Hard to teach a new set of players but just like normal monopoly it’s ok if a few people know the game so the others will quickly catch up and get used to it. I don’t really know why so have so many versions
Kids loved it after we finally understood the rules, which can be tricky to grasp at first. The board and pieces seem sturdy and the timer is simple to follow. Batteries (aaa) for the timer not supplied. Overall, it’s a good game and quick to finish and can have multiple rounds.
A lot of fun, simple concept but did take a few games to properly get the hang of it, it became noisy with just 2 of us playing 🙂 more a standing up game if there are 4 of you as need to move round the board super quick.
A fantastic game, the whole family love it!! You can play it lots of times in 30 minutes!!
I love monopoly but no one else ever wants to play it with me because the game is so long but this version changed that. My friends and family who find standard monopoly boring loved this version. You have to be quick and it’s great fun zooming around the board. Definitely recommend!
Fantastic game but be warned this is not for children or slow players.
Gave this as a gift and the recipients loved i
Great twist on the famous board game! I used get sick of the long games which spanned over multiple days, due to other things going on in life, like mealtimes and sleeping. The 10 minute version is much better!
Great game! It’s full of speed and can become hillarious when playing with slower opponents
Not played yet because it is a Christmas gift however it looks great and arrived in perfect condition.
I personally don’t like this version of the game , I find it disorganized and loud. I like the long game . Others in the family liked it probably because they managed to beat me , not something that happens in the long game.
Bought as a present for a 15 year old who likes Monopoly but doesn’t have hours to spend playing it. This ends all those family arguments over who’s banker, how many more hours until we stop, who’s actually won and who cheated. Well, maybe not the last one but certainly the rest. Simple concept of everything costing the same, everyone plays at once, two “go” squares and no jail. As it’s against the clock it’s quick, fun and far more painless than the traditional version. If you use your own timer and extend the rounds a bit, it would actually be good for younger children as it’s much simpler. Took a goes at reading the rules to understand it but once we understood the trading part it was very simple to pick up.
As for who cheated – everyone is so engrossed in buying property and rolling their dice in the buying stage, it is impossible to watch what others are doing so there is still chance for someone to start that argument…
This is an interesting variant on the traditional board game… a couple of rule changes and enforced by a timer! Overall it’s still good fun and is a lot faster than the original game but it does feel a bit too rushed, especially if people playing aren’t that familiar with the game.
But… it is still fun, just don’t try to rush through the game…!
So this takes elements of monopoly – ownership, trading, money management and condenses them down into a ten minute game – forced by the use of the timer
This does make it short and possibly a bit more accessible to a younger audience but it all makes it a frenetic game, especially if you’re not actually interested in doing much trading. With the time drops in the last rounds this can make for a dull ending to the game.
Clever use of the cards and extras – ultimately though we’ve tweaked this a bit to sort of meet in the middle – not quite as strict on the times, but going for some of the more clear end-game stages.
A good variant.
The concept is good and the board game is well made. Best suited for use when travelling in my opinion or while on holiday. The original is better as a true family /group sharing experience. That said if you haven’t played the original I think you will find this game suits you well especially if you have grown up with quick games on your smartphone.
Takes some time to get used to playing together at the same time. Really good though
It’s Monopoly but on speed. This version of the game really does just take 10 minutes, which in normal circumstances is great. My original Monopoly had sat gathering dust as the family just couldn’t be bothered with the seemingly endless time it took to finish a game. This seemed like a solution, with its handy-dandy timer, where you buy as much as possible against the clock and chance cards come into the “trading stage”. All players roll and move at once (am I the only one sad to se the metal tokens replaced by cheap plastic ones in the modern game variants?)
I actually fancied trying this out at one of the drunken board game nights that friends and I have occasionally — the quickfire nature got me thinking of how a drinking game could be attached to this.
Then 2020 and lockdown and suddenly the original, with its never-ending rounds, didn’t feel too bad Well, that’s a lie, even in Lockdown it can go on too long. But a happy medium would be nice. Still the quick game will still be there after lockdown. Though seriously, this is a nice frantic version of the original.
My wife and I have been playing the new Monopoly Speed board game over the last few evenings while in the Coronavirus lockdown. We don’t find time to play board games too often, but we do still have a large collection of classic and modern games to dip into including a 1970’s Waddingtons edition of Monopoly, a Simpsons version and a modern one we bought about five years ago. Monopoly Speed looks very similar to the regular versions, but with the twist of being against a very tight clock.
The game board itself is similar size to the standard game, and comes with slightly smaller Chance, Community Chest, Deeds and money itself, four coloured dice to match the four coloured playing pieces (dog, cat, car and boat). Additionally you also get a stop watch (3x AAA batteries not included). When set up it still takes up the same amount of space as the standard games so it’s not something you’d play on a car or train journey, but it’s an ideal game to take on family holidays.
The game also comes with an instructions leaflet, which I must admit wasn’t perfect. It explained the rules and it was straightforward enough to appreciate the differences between this and the standard game, however some instructions were a bit vague. For example, it wasn’t clear how many of the Chance cards you’re supposed to use each round, or if there’s an turn-based order for using those Chance cards at the end of the game. Just a few little details here and there which had us re-reading the instructions several times. It took longer to set up the game then it did to actually play the first game. I would suggest you read though to get an idea and then play the first game as a sacrificial attempt so that you get the feel for what you’re doing.
The stopwatch looks to be more functional than it is. The buttons on the top are dummies, all you do is press the face down once and it follows its own programme. It counts down to start the game, which is split into 4 rounds of two sections, a “Buying” round and a “Trading” round. Basically, during the Buying round all players throw the dice at the same time and buy whatever properties they want in the short time window available. And, it is a short time window. We’re talking only 20-30 seconds, getting shorter per round. All properties are the same value, all money notes are the same 1000 value and there are no houses or hotels to worry about. There’s no rent, you don’t get stuck in jail and there are two “Go” corners. The Trading round allows you to implement instructions found on the Chance cards, and also allows you to catch your breath.
Our first attempt at the game was a bit chaotic, but even when you know what you’re doing the level mania doesn’t drop too much. We’ve only played this as a couple, I can’t imagine the scenes of four players at once. The game really does last only 10 minutes, although setting it up is another 5 minutes maybe. It’s fun and frantic, and certainly a different twist on the classic game which will broaden its appeal to those bored by the original, but conversely may not be universally liked by players of the standard version. I don’t believe it’s as good a game as the original, but it’s more likely that this game will get played purely because its more accessible to have a quick game. The instructions could just do with being a bit clearer.
Monopoly Speed Board Game
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this. I like the original version of Monopoly but find it drags on for too long, so this seemed like a good alternative, but surely the fun of buying up properties would be lost if you don’t have enough time to play it. Less than 10 minutes for a game of Monopoly seems like a crazy idea. However, I am very impressed. This is a fast, fun and energetic game, it revitalizes Monopoly and makes it quick and snappy. It is relatively straightforward to play, it doesn’t take long to set up and is best played with four people. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. You all play at the same time, no waiting for turns and it gets a bit manic, but that is part of the fun! Everything costs the same amount of money, but depending on the community chest cards that you have you are targeting specific streets, so you have to be fast before someone else gets there. It requires a bit of strategy, but more quick thinking. No time for long decisions. I think this is also good for kids as it is easier to pick up and play than the original. My main complaint (and if I could remove half a star I would) is the shape of the box which is a strange rhombus shape rather than rectangle, which makes it difficult to stack in the cupboard. Obviously this doesn’t affect gameplay, but it is irritating!
It was a brithday pes so I know they love the games
The Monopoly Speed Boatd Game is designed for players who like the game completed in a fairly short time.
You can vary the pace if you want to go a bit slower ,it’s very sleek and an update on the traditional game, good fun !
Played this a few times now (easily done seeing that the game time is so short) and I must say that I’ve found it an enjoyable alternative to the original classic game. The packaging seems a little large for the few items inside the box and the four playing pieces seem ‘cheap’. The board itself is good quality and thick so should last a long time unfolding and folding it each time of play. I like the timer (you’ll need to buy 3 x AAA batteries as these are not supplied in the box) which keeps the players ‘on time’ as to each stage of the very fast gameplay and once the easily learned rules are learned its a doddle to get straight into the action and yes, its all over and winner declared in 10 minutes! As for game-play longevity, this will be brought out occasionally as a fun alternative which can be easily enjoyed by all age ranges when time might not be so available to play the full original game – but, in the long run, it is just what I’ve called it, it’s a novelty which won’t ever replace the original. Add it to your Monopoly collection and bring it out once in a while when friends and family want to play something a little ‘different’ and you’ll find that it was definitely twenty quid well spent.
