My door ways are a stupid width so liked that this was extendable
However, could have done with the metal bars on the ends being extendable as I have had to use them on their fullest length to get the gate to fit. (Issue with our wide doors and not the gate per se)
I use this product to stop my dog going into my lounge that I just had very pale carpet in, so if dirty or wet feet not allowed, so I just pull gate to until I checked, plus o have extra wide doorway and exyends
Installation was far from simple and the graphic only instructions are pretty poor so you have to really concentrate to get it right. I wasn’t sure of the need for the “long” template as it has no marks for the upper fixings. Even with a pretty flat floor and reasonably square walls I had to pack out one of the fixings to get it to align and hang right. I would have been sunk without a spirit level! Having said all that, it is not easy to find a hinged stair-gate and I really could not contemplate having a “friction fit” gate with what I consider to be a lethal “trip” bar on the floor at the top of the stairs. Once installed it seems to work well but has yet to be tested by Mr. Destructo (grandson)!
ot the best gates but they do the job of keeping my grandson safe which is the important thing, and I bought them on offer so I can’t complain. I think if I had paid full price after opening the first I would of returned them
Overall a good product and adjusts well to fill most gaps as per its specs. However, it is a little tricky to install and requires a bit of attention to get right. Things like skirting boards on stairs may scupper your plans so read and understand the instructions well before you start and do a mock run through to see that everything will line up ok in the end. We bought 2 and I found installing the second one to be a more straightforward process having had already installed the first done. The length adjusting screws at the end can help you deal with a little bit of irregular space that you may need to work with (e.g. skirting board, upright on bannister, etc.). Just make sure that you have plenty of time to think and space to work when installing and you should be ok. The gates are reasonably sturdy and the locking mechanism is good enough to put off only casually interested children. I’d imagine that bigger, tougher, observant children who are more dedicated on jailbreaks might come closer to testing the limits of the locking mechanism but, by that time, they probably don’t really need the gate any more.
This a sturdy, good quality gate at a good price. It was fairly straightforward to assemble and install apart from the extenders being limited to 7cm increments. We had to use something to pad out the gap.
The latch is not very easy to open, especially one handed and took some time to work out. I like that it opens both ways and doesn’t swing when open so I don’t get hit by it and it stays out of the way when going through it. It does make quite a loud noise when shutting it but this hasn’t been an issue for us.
If I had to buy again, I’d go for one that’s easier to open but am happy with this one otherwise, especially for this price point.
