I have seen people wearing similar on runs and always thought they were a gimmick… until I ran 16 miles for the first time and my knee started aching. I purchased this thinking it wouldn’t work but was amazed that as soon as I put it on I was not only pain free but able to carry on running. Without wearing this I have a dull pain (3 out of 10) but when wearing it’s like the injury isn’t there, perfect!

I found this strap gave great support to my self diagnosed knee injury, both when walking and particularly down stairs. I’m on my feet a lot at work and up and down stairs a great deal. The knee pain was at the very top front side of my shin bone, and it almost completely disappeared while wearing the strap. It’s been washed only once as it doesn’t really get dirty as such. After washing the label creased and irritated a little, hence my reluctance to washing it frequently.
I’ve had this strap for just shy of three months, using it four nights a week. Just home from work and the Velcro has worn through, so it can no longer be used. I’ve just ordered another as I know it works and they’re not too pricey. I’ve actually ordered a second one this time so I can try it on my other knee.
Tip, use a finger each side of the Velcro when affixing to keep it in line with the rest of the strap so the Velcro hooks don’t dig into your skin.
In summary it hasn’t lasted all that long but it really works. The design of it is a lot like a tennis/golfers elbow strap, putting pressure on the trouble area.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked really well while it lasted

Does what it claims Not everything we buy works as expected but this does not over claim and does what it says. So money is not wasted and is a good purchase.

I have muck knee pain these days. I’m 73, this is probably due to a mispent youth, playing all sports going.
The pain was effecting my golf. And i had taken to wearing large uncomfortable knee supports. With limited success. In desperation i turned to these Neo supports.
They have been fantastic. Wether walking or playing golf, the pain is either gone or minimal.
They have made life much better.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAt 73, pushing 74, I’m not about to run marathons, but when you have osteo-arthritis, and it’s in your knees, you will try anything to walk! So I got these! Now I’m a big fella, (think of Geoff Capes!), and they are a ‘snug’ fit on me, but a near perfect fit, and certainly work well! My only comment would be that the straps on them could do with being about 2 cm longer, when you are a big person, they are at the extreme position! Now I’m not saying they will work for everyone, but they work for me, I’m not totally pain free, but I can Walk! UPDATE: Had these for several weeks now, and the difference is amazing! They’ve stretched into a comfortable fit now which makes life easier. Not pain free, but bearable in the short term. I’d recommend them to anyone with arthritis in the knees.

Bought this for my daughter who has been diagnosed recently with Osgood Schlatter. She is a gymnastics junky but was finding the pain unbearable so thought we’d try this band. Daughter has only been wearing it for a week but her knee has not given way – tick – and the pain is more of a discomfort- tick. If we had to be uber critical, daughter finds the buckle cuts in BUT if she’s weighing up the discomfort of a buckle or not being able to continue her sport, she has opted to wear the band. Overall, we’re both very pleased so far. Quality of band is excellent – well made and seems durable. Would recommend!

These are great however they aren’t good for prolonged use. I found that the velcro backings are rather sharp and hurt my skin. They don’t cut, no. But even if I wear them loosely, they still hurt the skin. It would be better if there were more comfort going around the whole knee. They still get the job done however – I just don’t suggest wearing them for very long at a time

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve been using this product for about two weeks now and have found it to be excellent. It obviously doesn’t correct the underlying reason for the injury but it helps support recovery and prevent it reoccurring. Most patella tracking issues are due to tight quad and ITB pulling the tendon laterally due to weak or ineffective VMO and/or medial ligaments. This was the case with myself and the patella band is excellent for the rehab, even to point where it can be used to keep an ice pack attached to the knee. The band is as effective (or if not more so) than a knee support and is better to wear, being less obtrusive and because you can vary the pressure with it, it doesn’t slip down out of position like a knee support can, when you are walking about. Well worth investing in this product if you suffer from this type of knee problem.

I would like to begin by stating that I had never been a big fan of things like knee bands, braces etc. I never beleived in them having any practical use whatsoever and did not use them while doing cardio, weight lifting etc.

It all changed after I had had experienced a rather intense bout of reactive arthritis, which had sidelined me from training for about half a year. Thankfully it’s all over now and this knee band has allowed me to return to intense weight lifting and running.

The Neo G band itself is of really high quality: special mention goes to the additional, inner silicone band. It provides really good support to the patella.

    5/5, will buy again.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersHaving suffered two years of “jumper’s knee” due to over-enthusiastic kung-fu (especially considering I’m overweight) I though I’d give my experience. Note that this device is particularly for “jumper’s knee” – quite different from “runner’s knee”. If your knee pain is due to heavy landing and twisting (I’m 95kg, 15st), as in martial arts, this may be the device you need.

First I got the Neo G MEDICAL GRADE ADVANCED HINGED OPEN PATELLA KNEE BRACE/SUPPORT ( Neo G MEDICAL GRADE ADVANCED HINGED OPEN PATELLA KNEE BRACE/SUPPORT ‘breathable design’ ) – this gives excellent support, but is really for extreme cases, when you hardly want to move the knee. You can walk in it, but not run, let alone perform martial arts. It’s good for initial recovery when in serious pain, and you just want to be able to hobble around. You should of course, seek medical advice.

I didn”t really need that much support (it’s like swaddling the knee), and later found the Mueller 59857 Max Knee Strap ( Mueller 59857 Max Knee Strap – OSFM, Black ) – this is the one my knee recovered mostly in. I only wore it for active martial arts, not indoors or walking to the shops etc. It gave excellent support and yet gave flexibility. Highly recommended. The Mueller is actually more for runners’ knee rather than jumper’s knee.

My knee is almost better now, but from time to time I still need some support, and the Mueller above seems a bit too much – it doesn’t give 100% flexibility, so is limiting movement in martial arts. Then I came across this one. From the photos, I wondered whether it would give any support at all, but considering the other reviews, I thought I’d give it a try. It was a revelation! Support in exactly the right place, without limiting movement at all! Really amazed. I now suspect I would have done better starting with this one.

It has a large gel pad below the dip which is placed just under the patella of the knee. This gel pad doesn’t appear in the photos, which is odd, as is key to its effectiveness. The strap loops back through a buckle and should be pretty tight. Even then, I found it to be very comfortable and quickly forgot it was there. Found myself able to run up the subway stairs two at a time again, a major achievement.

As with all such devices, do take medical advice, and don’t wear when you don’t need it. In my case, I wore it to martial-arts classes and when commuting only, not when at home or in the office. The idea is to give support to prevent making it worse, and to allow exercise that strengthens the muscles. In between, take the support off, to allow natural recovery and to prevent becoming dependent upon it.

I had another strap from another brand – the Neo G is much better.

    Why?

1/ The strap threads through and binds back on itself via velcro. This makes it more secure and doesn’t slip.
2/ The gel/plastic piece that supports the patella feels like it’s really doing some good – the previous band was a long piece of rubber inside the strap and didn’t feel like it was big enough to do any good.

    Why not 5 stars?
If you strap it too tightly the edges of the strap velcro rub on your skin.
However if you adjust it a tad it’s fine. Also it means you’ve tightened it too much.
I would measure the circumference of your patella/knee so that you know the strap isn’t too big.

I have Osgood-Schlatter disease on my left knee. I do weights in the gym and play indoor 5-a-side football (A real knee destroying game that caused my Osgood-Schlatter condition).

I used to use only one band and it would reduce the pain at the top of the shin suffered afterwards. Then I started using two of these knee straps together and consequently I don’t feel any pain during or after exercise. I use one of the bands with the silicon pad on the patellar tendon and the other band without the pad directly on the little bump at the top of my shin.

One star is removed because the stupid Neo G logo prevents the velcro from fastening entirely. If you can remove it then this would be a perfect product.

I suffer from Osgood-Schlatter disease (since adolescence) and runners knee, neither of which prevent me from running but both give me some pain, especially on long runs or when running hard/fast.
I thought I’d try these straps based on their good rating. I wore a strap on both knees yesterday whilst doing a ten mile run and was amazed at the difference. Almost zero pain after the run. Also the morning after, when I’m usually very stiff and achey, my knees felt fresh as a daisy!
They fit nicely and don’t move around but are slightly uncomfortable, so take some getting use to, but its worth the discomfort for all the benefit the give.
I would recommend as part of an overall knee management programme. Also be sure to do cross-training, core stability excerises, hip/quad knee strengthening, all of which help reduce knee pain and complement usage of the strap.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHaving suffered a major knee injury a few years ago, i have worn knee supports ever since my surgery. I have to say this one fits the best out of the four or five that i have had over the years. I can wear it all day and not suffer any discomfort. One key point is the buckle. Past supports have irritated my knee area after an hours wearing, but this strap does not irritate at all.

The silicone pad molds nicely to my leg. At first i was concerned it would cause unnecessary sweating, but i was glad to find that during a heavy workout, the sweating in that area was minimal.

All in all, i would recommend this product ahead of any other patella strap i have ever used. For the price, it is ten time better than models that are more expensive.

After years of running long distance and various other sports my knee isn’t in the best of shapes. I’ve used all sorts of supports but this was the first patella strap I have tried and it hasn’t disappointed. The strap itself could be a bit more robust but its very good for the price you are paying. I use it while out walking and playing football and it certainly helps a lot with reducing inflammation and pain round my knee

I have an old knee injury dating back to playing hockey in my youth; this occasionally flares up and swells and is painful. I’ve used other types of patella strap with some success but they were sometimes uncomfortable. I’ve used this one for a few days now and it seems comfortable and relieves the pain, but I do find the soft insert a bit bulky and I’m not sure this is quite the right support for me. It’s a well-made product though and I will persist with i

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThere are many factors that could potentially be causing your knee pain, and whilst you might share symptoms with another person, their causes might be completely different. There is no definitive research determining one single cause and/or treatment of runner’s knee, instead there is a sea of studies showing that what might work for one person, doesn’t work for another.

With that in mind, it’s somewhat futile to review an item like this, because you take a risk when you buy it, and just because it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean it’s a bad product. Personally, I have found this strap to be mildly useful in lessening my knee pain, but it did not take it away completely.

I can say, however, that it is comfortable to wear, easy to attach and it does not come undone during long-distance running. The gel section is removable which makes it easy to wash too. It’s a well-made product, but you won’t know if it can help you until you try it.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI have severe worn & damaged knees as a result of massive motorsport accident
I ultimately need to have my knees replaced.

I have no cartilage in my joints & its bone on bone!

But due the constant tear inducing pain i have tried everything, i saw this product and thought give it a try

Now its not a cure, i can suddenly go running play football, but! it does give a surprising amount of relive, i have tried one, on my worst knee, and as i say it is helping, it does stop my patella moving as much and as such i can walk a little easier

I am going to get another one for my other knee not quite as bad but it suffers the patella moving causing me to drop to the floor

what i would say id the strap that loops around (one half of the velcro) needs to be cut down so it doe snot overlap and rub on the back of the knee, i also trimmed it where it is sewn to the strap again so it doesn’t overlap and rub on you.

Since doing this i do forget it is on, don’t make it too tight just a firm hold, experiment with it at different levels of tightness but as i say don’t be tempted to strap your self up too tight, it will make it worse

    regards bria

Before I purchased this item I fitted the following profile:

    1. I am a runner – mainly concrete atm but long term will be offroad / trail running

    2. As I am a beginner, constant running on concrete began to make my right knee (inner-side) hurt a little

    3. Running off road / trails I had no problems

I thought the best thing to do was to get some knee support until my legs adjusted to my new workout regime, left leg fine so just one strap / band will do this is where I found the Neo G.

What can I say it works perfectly, no longer do I get any issues on my right knee and so much so that the niggle has gone now and I will be running without it (as I don’t want to rely on it, my legs should adjust).

Highly recommend the product, it worked for me at least – fast delivery also.

I used this for badminton and after 2 months the blue material had been stretched so much now that the Velcro strap has less surface area to stick to..

All that aside, it was great for the compression it provided, the silicone was very helpful to ensure that you knew when the strap was not aligned properly.

I may come back to this one but for the moment I am trying out the Shock Doctor version to see if there is any improveme

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersSuffer with pateller tendinitis from playing badminton so bought this to help with the pain. Even after the first use I could tell the difference. My knee hurt less whilst I played and the pain resolved much quicker afterwards. The strap itself is very comfortable and if correctly applied provides a lot of support without cutting off the blood supply to the rest of your leg.

The only negative is that due to the size of my knee, to get the right tension, have to attach the strap all the way past the Velcro and onto the Neo G label. This unfortunately has resulted in the strap not holding together anymore due to the label area becoming fuzzy and undone with the Velcro no longer sticking to anything. For an idea of how long it’s lasted, it’s been 3 months with use 2-3 times per week which isn’t bad but It’s going to have to be replaced.

In summary, it will definitely help to relieve the symptoms of pateller tendinitis but with heavy use, you may be looking to replace it every so often.

I have had runners knee type sypmtoms for a few months on one knee and, unlike in the past, it didn’t seem to be healing on its own and was beginning to interfer significantly with my day to day life. I have been using this support for a couple of weeks now and it seems to be providing real support and I am feeling more confident putting pressure on my knee without expecting a inevitable sharp pain across my kneecap.

The silicon seems to be the key for me. It allows the strap to grip more effectively and also allows pressure to be maintained against the knee without it feeling too tight. The velcro strap is also of high quality and doesn’t slip or feel uncomfortable.

I bought a cheaper patella ban a few weeks earlier (that used a plastic tube, rather than silicon pad to apply pressure) and was finding it quite uncomfortable and ineffective. I had also used a couple of other supports without much success so was about to give up on these before discovering this. Hopefully my knee will now heal and strengthen sufficiently for me to remove the support in the not too distant future.
