I used this to rake out old lime mortar on an internal chimney breast prior to pointing, where a power tool would have been too messy. Once I used pliers to tighten the screw holding the raking nail, it worked really well taking the mortar out cleanly and easily without all the dust of abrasive discs.
I like everything about this tool and the resultant finished work . My only criticism was the pin kept falling out I replaced it with a nail and it’s working as it should
I needed this to remove some old, substandard mortar on the brickwork of a chimney stack, ready for re-pointing. It did the job, so I’d recommend. Gotta have the knack! It’s all in the hand movements! Then works fine. Tighten the nail with pliers though, to keep it firmly in place.
Found this a god send for cleaning up the pointing on the front of my house. Suggest using pliers and gloves to tighten it though as it frequently falls out otherwise.
Tool arrived quickly. Works well. Strong and looks well made. Very pleased.
I would have given 5 stars but the raking pin snapped off after around 2m of line mortar raking and I was going to send it back, I replaced with a snug fitting wood screw so it now screws into place and then locks to doubly secure. This is a lot better than the original brittle pi
