Hi! I’m Jen; mum to two young children and founder of Little Acorn Games!

As a young family, we love board games! It’s as simple as that. For pure, simple, innocent fun with plenty of friendly banter thrown in, great family games are our go-to thing. It is through this love of children’s board games that I had that ‘lightbulb moment’ for our first games: Funny Fairies and PJ Pirates!

A crowdfunded beginning

Our children loved them from the start, as did their cousins, friends, friends-of-friends…after gaining an overwhelming seal of approval from them all, I founded Little Acorn Games and crowdfunded our first print run to get our games out into the world for more families to enjoy!

Multi award-winning games

I am beyond thrilled to announce that since launching, lots of people have agreed with our little play-testers: we are now MULTI AWARD-WINNING!

  • Funny Fairies: Silver Medal for Board Games in the Independent Toy Awards 2020; shortlisted for the Young Einsteins Award in the Imagination Gaming Family and Education Game Awards 2021!
  • PJ Pirates: Silver Medal for Board Games in the Independent Toy Awards 2021!
  • Little Acorn Games: one of Theo Paphitis’s six weekly Small Business Sunday winners in July 2020!

From our family to yours…

We love what we do and have LOTS more fun ideas up our sleeves for more great kids’ board games…Funny Fairies and PJ Pirates are just the beginning!

Little Acorn Games has evolved into a real family business, created by our family to be enjoyed by yours, and we’d love you to be part of our journey!

OUR AIM: To instil a love for board games from an early age, helping children to reap the many social and educational benefits that playing family board games together brings!

I got this game for my niece as part of her birthday present. There are so many variations to how to play the game and even can make your own. Great value for money.

Received as a birthday present for my 4 year old son. He loves playing it and great that there are 3 levels to play as he gets older.

Box is smaller than I was expecting but looks good quality. It’s a Christmas present so not opened as yet.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI returned this item as someone else had bought it for my grandson too. It’s either popular and well worth the money or there are a limited number of games with a pirate theme.

Bought for a 3 year old He basically got the hang of it but we had to make exceptions to the rules to hold his attention. However he loved playing it and he will grow into it. Good value

Great game I have a six year old and 4 year old. They both loved it. So did the adults. Lifesaver during the dreadful weather we have just had.

This has been popular with younger children. It does hold there attention for quite a while and it hasn’t bee discarded after one game. The components are all well made and it is quite quick to learn but the gameplay isn’t completely simplistic.

I ordered the Little Acorn Games AWARD-WINNING PJ Pirates Family Board Game for Kids

This is a great fun game. My children have been playing this non stop for the last few weeks. It is really fun and keeps them entertained for long periods of time. My 4 year old and 6 year old are able to play this game with ease, it isn’t too hard for them to understand and its great to get them sharing and learning about winning/losing and how to deal with those emotions. It is good value for money and would recommend this for anyone who likes to play board games.

This game is awesome and well worthy of the awards it has won. It’s super simple and easy to learn and play and my children genuinely enjoyed playing this. It’s certainly not one of those play and forget about games but rather one that will be taken out of the box time and time again so it represents superb value for money.

In the box you receive 4x pirate game boards, 20x dressed pirate body parts, 15x PJ pirate cards, 6x pesky Polly parrot cards, 8x treasure map cards, 1x compass spinner, 1x treasure piece and a set of rules.

Rules are simple too. There are 3 different games to learn which start with basics for beginners and younger children moving through and adding a little more specifics and tactics for those more adept and/or older children. In the most basic of games the idea is that you need to completely dress your pirate. Outfit colours don’t need to match in this version but rather the game is aimed at allowing younger children to start to understand the concept of gameplay. For instance, the pesky Polly parrot card allows you to effectively steal a piece of clothing from another players board. The first player to get fully dressed has to then find the treasure using the spinner to win. The game progressively introduces more options and rules so when you are playing at level three for example your pirate now needs to be fully dressed in a matching outfit. There are also opportunities to swap your half dressed pirate with someone else’s board who May happen to be further ahead and more dressed than your character. It’s not too taxing and really enjoyable to play.

All parts and pieces are well made and are of a good quality. The pirate game boards are colourful and printed on nice, thick card and the treasure spinner is robust and sturdy. The play cards are a little thinner but equally colourful and well made and should be able to withstand younger children’s play reasonably well. I can’t fault this in any way and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone. It’s a great game that will keep the kids entertained for hours. More importantly it will keep them coming back for more. Brilliant fun for all the family!

5.0 out of 5 stars ‘Ah ha me hearties!’ Time to get dressed and find some treasure.

This comes in a nice sturdy box, it has full instruction’s of what to do, it may need an adult to explain it to younger children but the kids soon got the idea. They did have a few spats but they did have good fun too. Personally I think these board games are well over priced for what you get, but its on par with other board games, so I have to say its value for money.

This is an indoor wet play win. It worked great with a year two and a year three class. It’s very simple to explain and for them to play independently taking in turns and trying to build their pirates. Lots of turn taking, basic social skills and even possibly describing their outfits. A simple and effective game that can work with a good age range. A great game to play quickly.

This comes in a well presented/ illustrated box which would appeal to both genders. The theme is pirates so again suits most kids tastes I guess. The items are well made and straight forward to start up. The play structure is easy to follow and the option of multi players is great for families. At 17.99 it’s overpriced for what it is in my opinion and therefore loses a star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ahoy there

Really nice little game. Was simple to play and supports 2-4 players.
The quality of the pieces are very good and my niece (8 years old) and nephew (6 years old) really enjoyed playing it together.
Great that the parts are made from recycled board, so good and eco friendly.
It is really quite a simple game though so I do think it’s a bit overpriced for what it is but nevertheless it’s nice quality. Bit cheaper and I’d recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, good quality simple game but a bit overpriced

Great family fun! We already had funny fairies which we played daily all summer. Our 4 year old just started school so we purchased this as a present for settling in so well. It’s the same concept which makes it simple to follow and just as entertaining!

My grandchildren age 5 and 8 (boy and girl) absolutely love this game! I am particularly impressed with the look and quality of the game and it is all made from 100% recycled board and paper too so eco friendly. It can be played at a number of different levels which make it fun for all the family and we love the spin to win for the treasure piece! All in all another excellent game to follow Funny Fairies from Little Acorn Games.
