Plan B Games | Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra | Board Game | Ages 8+ | 2 to 4 Players | 30 to 45 Minutes Playing Time
After furnishing the Palace of Evora, King Manuel I of Portugal now seeks to commission the world’s greatest stained glass artisans to adorn the windows of the Royal Palace in Sintra. As a stained glass artisan, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to demonstrate your exquisite abilities for king and country. Will you be the best at creating the most beautiful stained glass in all of Portugal?
In a game of Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra, players take turns drafting glass panes from suppliers to place and glaze the palace windows. Over the course of six rounds, players will score points for strategically placing their glass panes while being mindful to avoid wasting precious and expensive supplies. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

When the original Azul came out I quickly fell in love with it and it became one of my favorite games. When Azul Stained Glass of Sintra came out, I didn’t understand the appeal and I didn’t buy it.
I later purchased Azul Summer Pavilion and Azul Queen’s Garden, and surprisingly I liked those even more than the original Azul. Personally I rank them Queen’s Garden #1, Summer Pavilion #2, and original Azul #3. With all 3 being in my Top 10 favorites of all time.
After having so much fun playing the other Azul games, I finally got Azul Stained Glass of Sintra and it did not disappoint. It’s very easy to teach, it plays very quickly (less downtime), and the combos are very satisfying. I still prefer Queens’s Garden and Summer Pavilion, but Sintra is just as good as the original.
I find that the people I play with seem to have their own favorites of the 4 Azul games, but Sintra seems to be the one that people have had the easiest time learning.
Sintra is different enough to warrant owning if you already own any of the Azul games, yet it’s familiar enough that it definitely feels like part of the Azul family. That being said, this game will also be fun for anyone who doesn’t own any of the Azul games or hasn’t played any of them either.
Love this game, it has definitely become a new favorite. Well made and fun. Instructions were not great, but we figured it out.
I ordered a new game and received a used game. This is the second time in the last month that I have ordered something from Amazon and received a used item. NOT okay!!
This game is BEAUTIFUL with the “glass”-look tiles! You get the same great Azul game but with different twists that make it a new game worth owning. The instructions are a bit confusing, especially on scoring, but with some YouTube videos, it becomes clear. We love playing this game!!
Azul has now unanimously become our family’s favorite game. Easy to learn, simple to play but rich in strategy with endless replay value. Nice quality game pieces! IMHO, fun game play and quality of the physical game pieces make it easy to award Azul our honest 5 STAR recommendation.
Bought this as a gift for my grandson. The whole family loves to play games a lot, and this is a great one to add to any collection. East to learn tips tp help play. My Grandson loves it A Real Hit

The game is fantastic however it was a Christmas present and there was no packaging around the game except a thin layer of cellophane which was ripped. We like to keep our games/ the boxes in good condition and the corners were battered which was disappointing. The game however is awesome and the delivery was on time and perfect.
Great sequel to the original game. Like any new game you’ll find you need to play a round or two to understand strategy but once you have the scoring figured out it’s a breeze to play.
This new stand-alone variation of Azul got thumbs up from all the grown-ups who played this holiday season. We are always looking for interesting new games, particularly those with a combination of skill and luck, so that we all have a chance of beating my daughter.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve played the original version or not; you can learn easily and play this Stained Glass Windows version. There are new strategies needed for the new features, and the dealing glass tiles gives the random-ness we need to potentially beat the Queen of games.
Definitely a good choice for family game night.
Full disclosure: this was the first game I ever played in the Azul series. That said, I do believe it’s my favorite.
As in base Azul, you choose a location and take all of the tiles of the same color from that location, placing them on your board. Stained Glass adds a geographic consideration: your glazier must be present to put the glass in place, and if he’s already passed the location you want to work on, you have to give up a turn to move him backwards before you can take glass to put there.
Stained Glass also gives each player a semi-random board, which means you don’t always want the same tiles as your opponents. Combined with the geographical considerations mentioned above, you have a lot more to consider in deciding which tiles to take and in what order.
Overall, you end up with a reasonably meaty game that’s still fairly easy to learn. Recommended.
We love to play this game as a family. It did take us a minute to figure out. Don’t give up if it’s confusing at first. It makes you think which I love. We had played a different version of this game and were expecting it to be the same, but was slightly different. My 9 yr old plays and understands perfectly what’s going on. There’s just a learning curve.
I love this game, I have all 4 versions of Azul!
I fell in love with the original, and each version has been a bit more challenging and 4 totally different games. (this one is my favorite)
The versions are different enough that you will love all 4 of them, but they use the same basic strategy to play. Learning the original version is a great place to start, but it is not necessary.
Love love love this stained glass version the bes
This game takes a good minute to learn how to play, but once you catch on it is so much fun! It challenges your brain and thinking process. I highly recommend!
I got this game for my husband for Christmas hoping for it be a fun game that we can play just the two of us. We love it!! We used the YouTube video to learn how to play it and found it simple enough. We play it more than any other game and have so much fun. The pieces are beautiful and it’s a great unique game.
If you are a vet with the original Azul, this version is not hard to learn. It is different however and took a few rounds for all of us to get the rhythm however, once we did it was fun. The game is very nicely crafted and does a good job at fulfilling the feel of Azul with some added complexity to keep you on your toes. Also the dice tower is great and we implemented a cup for the original set that makes it easier to get into the bag when you run out of tiles for the factory. Great addition to the game collection!
This game is a new take on the original Azul game. IMO this one is better.
It’s easy to play but hard to score.
Set up is easy. Gameplay is fun.
You can play casually and still do a fairly good job. Or you can play strategy and try and get lots of points.
The only downfall of this game is the scoring system. It’s not easily taught in the rules. You score as you go, but also do so at the end. The score pad is just designed horribly and I feel like the 5 times I’ve played this, there has been mess ups in the scoring every time. You just have to pay a lot of attention.
But really, of all the games I don’t already own, I chose this to get myself for my birthday and I could recommend it to anyone who likes slightly strategic, aesthetic games.
We as a family have had a lot of fun with this game. It’s something a bit different and all ages can play it. It arrived quickly and in good condition.
We really love this game – we found it easy to learn, but provides a good challenge when playing. Can be played with experienced and novice gamers. I’m especially a fan of the pieces – they have a nice tactile feel to them
GOOD GAME..
PROS –
*it’s a nice new varient of the original AZUL… which we loved..
*its colourful
*I love that this one has a box to put “spent tiles” in
Cons –
*cheap nasty tiles.. No weight to them..
*scoring board is thin and flimsy.
*player play board moves about really really easily…
Annoy/disappointing as they are these don’t really effect game pay that much apart from the last one
Such a shame as it could’ve been great…
For Al its faults I’d still recommend it.. But it doesn’t Warren the price tag for the quality.
Fantastic game. We’re big fans of the Azul series. This one is slightly more involved than the original. The tower to collect the tiles is a nice touch and makes refilling the bag easier between rounds. A great addition to the series!!
Fun game with lots of replay value. Colours are poorly matched between the tiles and the board but it’s pretty.
Some friends do prefer it to the original so either way it is a good choice.
We’ve already been playing original Azul for a few months and still love it, so we wanted to see what its sister game was like. Now we don’t know which to play and have to take it in turns. It is just as addictive as Azul and if you like that, you’ll love this. If you haven’t played Azul I’d try that first, it will make learning the rules for Stained Glass of Sintra much easier. Anyway I’d recommend them both.
