The ultimate fresh Pokmon game for the Nintendo Switch. With new Pokmon and new regions it really feels like revisiting my childhood in the younger generations. A must have for all Pokmon fans. Extremely enjoyable.

It’s a genuine Pokmon game. Not much more to add.
Only thing I would advise to people looking to purchase this particularly for someone else is there are minor differences between Sword and shield. The pokemon are different as is standard but but also the gyms are different, So do your research into which gyms you would prefer. There are also exclusives in the dlcs for both games I believe.

What can I say? It’s pokemon!

Before I start fanboying it needs to be said that this pokemon isn’t like it’s predecessors. It’s easier, in fact I can’t remember struggling at all. You gian xp to all your pokemon upon defeating or capturing a pokemon (you read that right, capturing now gives xp to your pokemon). There is also a very linear feel, even more so than the originals yet don’t let this dissuade you too much, because the game is without a doubt a very enjoyable.

There’s a new battle mechanic called dynamaxing which will have a big impact on your battles, seeing pokemon in 3d is something that never gets old, they even brought out new archetypes of previous pokemon known as galarian forms. You can cook food, camp and play with your pokemon, customise your clothes, laugh at the attempt of doing the London accent, you can even see your friend in the wild zone if your both there!

I could write an insane in depth review listing all the great features, but that would make for a very long read. If you liked any previous pokemon titles, I suspect you’ll like this one too. Grab it, play it and become a pokemon master.

While doing our government regulated hours exercise, my kids and I have rekindled our love for Pokemon Go so my daughter has developed a new love for the adorable little critters. Bought this as I remember sinking hours into Red and Blue back in the day and wanted to introduce her to a “proper” Pokemon game and it’s definitely done the trick, it’s a brilliant game and we love the fact you can actually see the Pokemon I the world so you know exactly which ones to hunt for. Only problem I have now is stopping myself from playing while she’s in bed! Highly recommended for parents of Pokemon mad young ones

Completed 4-5 gyms challenges so far. I was very sceptical about the Dynamaxing but it is actually visually brilliant and exciting (if not much of a gameplay/tactical necessity to a veteran Pokmon trainer).

The graphics, controls, areas, designs, Pokmon themselves, animations are all staggeringly beautiful and such a distance from my first experiences with Pokmon Yellow 20+ years ago (still love the originals too though!).

The only critique I have is that the team XP sharing makes the game quite easy for a veteran Pokmon trainer like myself. It would have been good to be able to switch that feature off possibly (although I love that the battling Pokmon gets experience for helping capture Pokmon which makes sense and is about time!)

The story so far is quite understated and has taken a bit of a backseat which is not a problem provided it heats up later. I’m loving the gym challenges before the main battle too!

Big fan of pokemon games but I think recent games just aren’t as good as the classics. The over the top extra super power thing they keep adding is just rubbish, I still prefer the standard wayand to focus on evolving, pokedex, and gyms. The general game is still good and pokemon fans will like that. The wild area is really good. Online trading though is poor, was better when you could deposit a pokemon and actually ask for what you wanted

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHours of playtime if you want to 100% however if you want to get to 100% on this game you will have to spend a lot of time grinding as with all pokemon games.

I found this game to be a revival of what can make pokemon good that was lost in Sun and Moon on the 3DS, this is as the game returns to its roots but makes new advancements in how you can play the game and why you play the game with the raids and only feature.

Although I have found the story to be a bit too quick and lacking in most part to the rival gang being a gym leader at one stage I am very much looking forward to the DLC that is due to be released for this game.

Overall I would recommend this game to anyone who is looking to make a fine addition to their switch game library.

Yes the story was a bit lack lustred, yes they didn’t include like 52% of the other Pokmon but it’s a great Pokmon game. (They just announced they’re adding 200 more Pokmon in DLC). Tons of fun to have roaming the wild area which is undoubtedly the best bit. Game feels a bit rushed especially towards the end. But as a whole, tons of fun, already put 160 hours into the game getting perfect IV and EV Pokmon. Overall, good game, would recommended to anyone who is a fan of the franchise.

Looks great and the different areas felt really cool. I like how there is more to do AFTER the main boss, plus expansions to come.
However, due to it being properly animated and 3D, dialogue can take AGES while an action is happening, and there is SO much of it that the game feels very slow, especially at the start.
Also, none if it felt like a challenge. None of the gym leaders have a full team, most have 3 pokemon. Also, I one-shotted all the main boss’s (Leon) pokemon in the main battle, as did I all the other gym leaders, so none of it felt like a challenge. Previous games’ Elite Four were always a challenge: needing to buy hundreds of Full Restores and Revives before starting, with each battle being tough. This game was just a walk-over.

I loved Pokemon since I was a kid and played all handheld versions. Pokemon Shield looks fantastic on the Switch. Galar is beautiful and I love how each town is different and unique. Love the background music and really enjoy the ‘open world’ aspect of the game. As with any Pokemon game, it’s all about levelling, battling, breeding and trading all which you can do.

Some things are a bit limited for me, I actually can’t stand the whole Dynamax thing I find that a gimmick and actually annoys me. I find the limitation of trading rather frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, I love the surprise trade but they didn’t have to remove GTS. Also, I really like seeing the Pokemon walking in the bush and around.

What I don’t like is how lazy Game Freak are with the crappy Pokemon animation and sounds taken from older games. The amount of money fans spend on this franchise, you would expect Game Freak to add some quality. But no. Some textures are awful, radio static for Pokemon cries and not even bothering to add some real voice acting! It’s a Switch game! Made for the console! They could have tried to listen to their fans.

Anyway, overall I would give this game an 7.5/10.

I love this game, but it lacks in the technical department. The graphics are seriously lacking when it comes to the environment and the online multiplayer aspect which keeps this game fresh is poorly executed. I had to add a bunch of random people to my friends list to even try and find anyone to match up with and it still only works a fraction of the times I try.
I really hope Gamefreak fixes this eventually.
Otherwise, it’s the one and only proper Pokmon game for the Switch and really delivers. The gameplay improvements were needed and could ve expanded upon. I hope this is only the first step.

Wow, what a fantastic addition to the main pokemon games.

Highly recommend for any pokemon fan, a game designed to be enjoyed by newbies and veterans.

A world which can freely explored, beautiful graphics which captures an obvious portrayal of Great Britain.

New Pokmon are featured in this release, generation 8, featuring a large roster of insightful characters, as well as galarian versions of original characters.

Although, all games come with their flaws…

Unfortunately there is not a full national pokedex, which I understand would dissapoint some Pok veterans. The game also aims more towards younger children, with a very tutorial heavy beginning, not as much freedom throughout the game as I hoped for, and very easy fights.

There was some connection problems when the game was first released but I assume this was just necause the serverd were a bit overwhelmed. This does not seem to be a problem anymore.

Despite this, I have really enjoyed this game and look forward fo future releases and coming back to complete this game again at some point.

    Highly recommend.

What can I say? I loved it. It’s been a while since I’ve played Pokemon. Now having it on a home console and on the big screen was an incredible experience! As for the game itself, I have to say that I got through it quite quickly as I genuinely just couldn’t stop playing! I was at work and couldn’t wait to get home to continue where I left off. People complain about how it doesn’t have the complete pokedex. For me, I wasnt really bothered by that. Theres enough pokemon there!

It’s old fashioned pokemon and that’s all I wanted and that was my expectation met. I’ll be honest and say that the story itself isn’t 10 out of 10… but if you’re looking for old fashioned pokemon it’s a perfect pokemon game. It is still %100 enjoyable as it always has been. You cant go wrong.

The delivery was quick and on time.

The game is amazing. If you are a fan of pokemon games it still has that atmosphere of adventure and you get rewarded for various things not just battling. Its quite simple to follow but has challenges of being able to battle pokemon way higher level early on. On the negative side is not being able to catch pokemon at certain levels if you haven’t done the gyms. But it’s still awesome. Really happy with it. And feels great being able to play it on the TV.
Also has an awesome gym fighting stages it just feels like you are on a show. 🙂

Golden Review Award: 54 From Our UsersSo far really enjoying it. I’ve played every main title so far, since getting Pokmon blue when I was 7. So far I’m entertained and enjoying the experience.

A lot of controversy about the games but I’ve not had any issues, graphics look fine to me, I’d prefer to have the full Pokdex but there are plenty of Pokmon so I’m not going to spit my dumby out. It would be nice to have the option to turn the exp share off but again, for me it’s not a big deal and is something that could be added with a update.

If you enjoy the general Pokmon experience I think you’ll enjoy this. If you get very hot and bothered over fictional characters and have an unreasonable level of expectation ( see toxic star wars fans as an example) just take a deep breath and walk away.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersAbout 10 hours in so far and an enjoyable game. The graphics look good whether on handheld or on the TV.

It is great to have a proper pokemon game on switch after the in-between titles (Let’s go Eevee and Pikachu) last year.

The only negative I can think of so far is that you are told where to go, whereas in past games you had to wander about and find it for yourself. But that isn’t enough to ruin the game for me.

You also cannot get every pokemon from past games but this is understandable due to the sheer amount now. It’s also fun to discover the new pokemon rather than being tempted to stick to your old faves
