I am pleased with this purchase – the movement is simple and precise. Easy to handle with a clean cut.

My new favourite secateurs. When chopping up a mixed bag of stems, rather than having to switch between secateurs and something more heavy duty to chop quite thick branches (relatively speaking), these are a dream. Impressive and good comfortable grip.

The secateurs are well made, with one slight exception. This the groove used on the ‘fixed’ arm of the tool bears a groove, which most of the type do, but it suffers like ‘most of the type do’ and that is the vee groove gets ‘clogged’ and unless you have something fine to use as a scraper a great deal of time can be wasted finding a suitable ‘tool’.
Why not incorporate a device within the body of the cutters to be ready and accessible when required?
Having said that they work well and the safety lock for when they are not in use is very handy and safe

Very pleased with them, they are great as I have arthritis in my hands and they are easier to use than normal ones.

Fell apart within a week, certainly no benefit to person with hand problems. Not sharp at all when trying to prune with them. I ordered these because I am an elderly woman who doesn’t have much power in hands and expected them to assist me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not fit for purpose

I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis & my hands are really painful most of the time, these are really easy to use & cut really well.
I can now help my daughter in my garden, which is nice

Only used once so far. Took a little while to get used to the ratcheting effect. Need to squeeze and release pressure on a larger cut to engage the next ratchet but it does work well once you get used to how it works.
Quite a stiff lever to engage ratchet mode, Will try a spot of oil on mechanism next time to see if it loosens it up. Nice sharp blade, not the best quality overall but good for price.

As a keen gardener I was looking for new secateurs that would allow me to prune small trees and large bushes. As I have arthritis in my hands, I needed something that was easy to use and having the option of a ratchet cut allows me to look after my lovely acer collection.
Very pleased so far. Easy to clean too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI always struggle with secateurs … im a rubbish and reluctant gardner so maybe thats what it is – i just find them quite awkward to use. These are no different but they are sharp and relatively straightforward so they get an overall thumbs up.

This product is robust and made well and does the job of normal secateurs and ratchet ones, it was able to do small flower heads and was able to do up to two inch thick branches as long as you have a strong grip.

This is the 4th piece of Davaon gardening tools that I have.
The secateurs take a while to get used to but they are good to use when you have mastered them. They are not as sharp as expected but I am comparing them to the other tools that I have which are amazing.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI took advantage of the reduced price 18.99 and bought a pair while on sale. They are advertised to cut green wood up to 22mm thick, plus have an oil pad and be oiled. They arrived in perfect condition but not oiled and no oil on the pad. Not a problem, just saying.
The packet however states they are only for use on branches up to 20mm and not to 22mm as advertised here. So for that it loses a star.
Furthermore I found a mirror image of these with another name (Kent & Stowe Ratchet Secateurs) and less than 9.

Comparing these Davaon to a pair of EasyKut Ratchet Secateurs I bought at the same time for 8.05, which are for use on branches up to 19mm.
Both look very similar, and both are ok for the money paid.
I tested both on fresh (green) privet wood 20mm in diameter. But even with the ratchet it was difficult to cut using both hands. The EasyKut felt it would break any second, so I didn’t continue. But the Davaon was stronger and completed the cut. However the final ratchet needed a huge amount of pressure to finish the cut.
Tried again on other similarly sized wood and both performed better. The Davaon secateurs are clearly better. Plus vastly superior to my cheap 20 year old bypass secateurs, and so they should be.

The Davaon secateurs are light weight and easy to use. They are super for small snips and small cuts, as well as with wood up to 10mm. Even in ratchet mode the ratchet does engage unless it needs to, and they are a good pair of secateurs. However with wood 20mm thick or even 18mm thick they struggle and are not practical. You then need loppers, which I would normally use anyway.

Overall after a quick test from new they are good secateurs and probably worth 18.99 delivered if they last. I am happy with them so far and I would initially recommended them. They seem a good all round pair of secateurs that are suited from fine to 15mm, with the odd larger cut if you cannot reach the loppers. However for more money I think there are better alternatives. For most garden task this is the only pair of secateurs you need and these will nicely cut all.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI purchased these secateurs back in July as my Wilkinson Sword cutters were just chewing branches rather then cutting them. I have multiple Bay Trees in my garden – all of which were approximately 18 foot a couple of years ago and have since been reduced to 8 foot as they were just impossible to manage. Since having them cut back dramatically, they have started to make a very nice dense hedge – the only down side is that they are very prolific and need trimming regularly to keep their shape / thickness. I mainly use an electric hedge trimmer, but this struggles to cut through any of the thick branches – hence needing a lopper and also secateurs. For the past 4 months I have been putting these secateurs to the test and I have to say – I am extremely impressed with them. They can cut through a decent sized branch with ease and this is where the ratchet mechanism really comes into its own delivering a very clean cut. They are very comfortable to hold / operate – especially for long periods of time (as in cutting up the branches I have taken down into more manageable sizes to take to the tip) and the locking button on the side to close the secateurs when not in use is easy to operate – simply squeeze the handles together tightly and then flip the switch. Because these are slightly different to standard secateurs – they do take a couple of sessions to really get used to them – I personally went through a doubtful couple of weeks – but since then – I would not be without them. They are strong and robust, plus the seller is excellent in sending you a very informative mail on how to care for your secateurs once they arrive. As recommended – I always clean the blades and oil them after use and after 4 months – they still look as good as new, plus cut very well. So overall verdict – I am delighted I purchased these and would have no hesitation in recommending this product.
