For children or board gamers used to simpler games, Disney Villainous will have an initial learning curve – there are quite a few things to remember. However, once you get your head round the rules (which doesn’t take too long, just a few rounds of playing) you’ll be having a blast.
The competitive nature of the game really makes you feel like a Disney villain – especially the ability to ‘fate’ other players, essentially pitting their heroes against them and making victory harder for them.
Each character is great. Considering there are so many expansions for this, it’s good that the base game has some iconic villains, and many players will be happy with the base set – never even finding the need to purchase any of the many expansions.
Play is fun and fast paced and required a lot of strategy as well as on-your-feet thinking. The fact that each villain plays slightly differently with different victory conditions is very fun and the theme is very strong.
It’s a staple amongst me and my friends, as well as some family members who are not board game lovers but picked it up relatively easily.
This is a really enjoyable boardgame to play with any kind of audience, not just Disney fans. The gameplay is really enjoyable, quite different to most other boardgames, and easy enough (compared to some games) to learn and get into. The fact each character plays a bit differently impacts how easy it is to learn, but I would suggest in a positive way.. there are new things to discover and learn each time you play a different character.
Overall the gameplay and quality is very good, and the Disney theme is an added bonus for fans familiar with the mentioned characters and locations. If you’re considering it, give it a go!
I bought this for my sister as a Christmas present. She loved it so much she’d bought an expansion pack by Boxing Day!
The artwork on the box and cards, and the craftmanship on the pieces is top class. Each character deck is completely unique, and often the ones you think will be the hardest to play as turn out to be the most fun.
Definitely recommended for any Disney fan, strategy fan, or anyone who is just looking for a board game that’s a bit different to what you’re used to.
Really good fun, takes a while to get the hang of though (play a game to get your head around things first before getting competitive). The quality is just ok – the Sheriff of Nottingham has a wonky base which is a bit disappointing given the price. You can buy expansion packs but it would have been nice to have another two characters in the pack for variety. Reading the reviews I think some players don’t understand the game (those saying it felt like they were playing alone/individually) – we have played 12 games and haven’t had one where we haven’t been near constantly doing something to disrupt the other. It’s different but it’s good fu
I’ve watched a number of YouTube videos on how to play this and when I think I’ve got it, I’ll sit down and play only to be confused again.
I think the game takes a bit to work out, but I’m sure once you’ve played a few times, it becomes more clear and fun.
Love the aesthetic though
Beautiful quality with a lot of little helpful details that explain not only the basic rules but also each individual character and how they play. These details make it easy and fun to pick up and play in a matter of minutes but there is clearly skill to mastering each character as well!
It’s a very good family game we played it xmas evening my wife and daughter had a very good evil battle between each other, unfortunately my daughter’s boyfriend and I couldn’t get the hang of the game but we won’t give up…definitely value for money
My boyfriend recommended this after playing it with some friends. I was skeptic so after watching the trailer (which adds nothing!), however it was a great game and I won .
Played it with a range of ages – 13 to 30+ and all were interested and could follow the game. You all have your own mission and it’s a race to win, but others can play tactics to stop you from winning.
Fun lighthearted and great that there are extension packs – which we will be buying in the future!
I don’t think this is a kids game (I’d say 10+ would be fine)…
I’ve bought it for myself…
The first time playing was a bit weird as it takes a bit of getting used to all the rules and it’s conditions.
It is a nice game as you have to do your mission and stop other players from completing theirs.
The materials used are nice and as long as you don’t get them wet (by accidentally dropping water on the boards) you will be fine and have a board game for years!
This game is great! It’s co plex and challenging and definitely for adults.
However, my version has a misprint of the Queen of hearts game mat where there is a missing number, and we did not notice until the game was over and being puzzled.
Been playing this every evening with my daughter (13) to get her off the phones and iPads . I love it – only played as king John and she malificent but I need to try others as she beats me every time. Already ordered an expansion .
This game is really good. We have bought the additional games as well and we are really happy ! It is difficult to understand how it works at first but once you have played a couple times, it’s really fun! Wouldn’t recommend for kids under 15 though as it would be difficult for them to play.
great strategy game. Takes a bit of learning so we had the rules on hand for the first couple of games. beautiful Disney art work on all the character boards and cards. We’ve already ordered an expansion pack
Great game. The starting characters have very mixed abilities so you need to understand your objectives and what tactics/cards will get you there and choosing when to attack another player or follow your own objectives. Lots of fun to play. Ursula is really hard to play, Prince John easy to win. Great iconic playing pieces. We played with ages 9 to 48 and took it on holiday with us.
This game is very straightforward to learn the basics but also has more complex strategies to master to help you win more efficiently. The theming for each character is on point so fantastic for disney fans. As each characters plays VERY differently to the others and there is 6 in the box there’s a lot of variety to experience. This game also plays just as well as a two player game for couples as well as more players up to 6. The 10+ age is probably fair although younger players may be able to play depending on reading skill. All in all a very fun and engaging game
Bought as a gift. Excellent craftsmanship, no issues whatsoever with product.
Game instructions are clear, fairly easy to learn. Be aware that each player will be pursuing different objectives, and have only played through once, so I’m unsure regarding the level of balance.
An enjoyable time was had by all when playing it.
I would give this game 5 stars, but there is a misprint on the queen of hearts board as shown in the picture.
Really like this game. It’s fun, but not as easy as it states. There is a lot of strategy that you need to think about, that younger children will probably find hard to do/understand.
I both like and dislike that the realms do not interact with each other. It takes away some of the annoying gameplay when other players gang up on you or give you major handicaps. But at the same time feels like multiple people are playing single player games next to each other and you are just waiting for them to make a move. The game definitely feel unique and original and of course you can never go wrong with Disney Villains. It has a good design and with multiple Villains to choose from you can have a different objective and style each time you play. Overall very enjoyable with replayability.
After what appears to be a complicated read through the instructions this game is actually quite easy to play and really fun. More about luck than skill so each player has an equal chance from the start. Made to a really high standard. Potentially a game for adult disney fans as children might not have the concentration to last as long as the game takes and there isn’t too much that happens on each turn.
My wife and I love a good board. And this one, so far, is our favourite.
You get to play as 1 of 6 different Disney villains (plus 9 more thanks to expansions) where you each have your own unique objective.
This creates a mixture of luck, strategy, and competitiveness.
Trying to complete your own objective while hindering a another player, so far, hasn’t gotten old.
This game will take time to learn, hence my 2 stars on “easy to learn”. However once you learn it, it is worth it. It is really complicated but very fun. Its a completely different type of board game compared to what I have played. You can also learn about disney characters you may not be familiar.
The makers have done a good job to monetise the game as there are expansion packs but if you want the “famous” characters you would have to buy 3 expansion packs!
My non gamer wife loves it, as do I. The asymmetrical nature of the game means a lot of replayability with different combinations of characters. Ther components are all good quality, with the exception of the cauldron which is cheap vacuum formed plastic – however I’d rather have this than a more expensive game.
Mechanics are a little complex for people unfamiliar with board games, but for anyone who has played Scythe (or similar ) it’s 5 minutes of reading to learn.
It’s definitely one of the best board games I’ve ever played and that’s why very soon after I got this, I also bought one of the expansions.
The only complaint I would have is that the seller sent me the game in a quite bad box. It was sealed and everything, so luckily everything inside was in perfect condition, but as a board game collector I like my games and their boxes to be in almost mint condition… especially when I receive them. Anyways… they partially refunded me since they didnt have any other product left to replace it, so we’re good.

Great family fun.
Fairly easy to pick up but plenty of scheming fun to entertain players of all ages.
Playable with 2 players but definitely benefits from more.
I love this game. It has a variety of characters ranging from easy to hard.
I’m addicted. Arrived quickly and in good shape.
This is quite a complicated game! After playing it a few times through it does get easier.
Basically each player has their own small board and their own goal. The other player(s) has to try to stop them achieving their goal.
Good game if you like a challenge.
Absolutely brilliant tabletop game. Brilliantly designed with shots from the films being redrawn for the cards. Simply beautiful
