It seems to be ok, all was in the box, everything in english, as o wanted.
A little bit on the expesive side, but was a gift and the person really liked it.

A simple family game once you have conquered the rules and played a couple of times. The rule book could be more helpful with additional explanations of the way the Market works

If you don’t have El Dorado buy it, we have over 200 board games and this one is by far my favourite. Superb range of play with so many combinations it’s different every time. I’ve introduced it to several other people who love it to. Buy the base game, love it, then buy the 2 expansions. All together there are so many options to design a map and character cards to play with you mix it up every time. Board, pieces and cards are all high quality but if you love it I’d recommend the card sleeves as I’ve played it over 200 times and you can’t help but wear them out.

Great fun for all family. Mi niece (8 years old) got the rules right away and then came up with her own map combinations.

Plenty enjoyable evenings with this game. Many variants and different set up possibilities so not bored of it at all even after some time

Great deck building game that is easy to learn and suitable for kids too, from about age 8 and up.After a few plays you realise strategy and how you build, trim and add to your deck becomes essential to win. There is a little bit of luck involved but mostly strategy and thinking and planning ahead wins most games.if you(and the kids) like Ticket to Ride,Catan,Splendor, then you will enjoy this game.
Also, before buying I had read reviews of the game where some components like instructions and the cards of the game were in German. So before buying,I sent Ravensburger via Amazon a messageThey responded promptly and assured me it was all I English….and it was. So,highly recommend!!

The best family game since escape from Atlantis!

This game manages to keep everyone engaged until the very end as you feel that it’s always anyone’s game. This game introduces deck building strategy to a family audience and encourages a number of different ways to approach the game. Eg slow start by investing in your hand or just burning ahead and hoping that no one catches you.

Thousands of different tile combinations keep the game feeling fresh and varied. Great components, some don’t like the small cards but not an issue for me.

My one piece of advice before before your first game, which is a common mistake, Is to make sure you have a firm understanding of the difference between a cards cost and a cards shop value.

    A must for any collection.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFantastic game for the whole family. Playing with kids at 7 and 10 years old. They both love it. It’s quite easy to learn and quick to set up. It has many setting variations making it different each time you play. Each time you make different decision as to who you need on your journey, you take different path.
    Really good game, highly recommend.

A really good, family friendly, deck building game. It does feel like the game ends abruptly, feeling like you’re only in the swing of it right towards the end – but this does also mean it’s difficult for someone to outright beat everyone else.

Quick and easy to play and teach! Fun as well. Draw 4 card into your hand and play them to cross the terrain matching the board hex. Alternatively you can forego movement to use the currency on the cards to buy new/better cards for your hand later in the game – building your deck. Simple and fast.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis is a great family game – It’s very easy to teach and you can easily adjust how long & hard the race is.
I’ve played it as a 2 player (excellent) threesome (OK) and 4 player (very good) & it’s always fun and engaging.
You cant help but giggle when someone gets 2 or 3 rotten hands in a row and sits pretty much stationary as you all whizz by!

In my opinion, it’s far better than the other race game in my collection: Flamme Rouge.

    It’s not perfect though:

    1. The caves add way too much luck into the mix and can be so powerful they often decide the race. Better to leave them out or put them so far off the ‘racing line’, people actually have to go out their way to earn them.

    2. It’s repetitive, particularly in the first half. You’ll find the same cards get taken again and again. The market place has the same 6 at the start of every game ( & only 4 of them are worth considering). Of the 12 high powered cards that gradually appear, only 7 or 8 are worth considering.
As you get better at the game & you start looking at the route & working out a strategy – you feel these 7 or 8 options actually reducing to just 1 or 2:
“Ah there’s a big bit of blue near the end so if I don’t grab a Captain, my opponents will & I’m going to hit a brick wall”

I like games where you feel more options opening up as you get the hang of it, not the reverse.

The first expansion (Heroes & Hexes) looks to add some new cards to fix some of the repetitive issues – it looks ridiculously overpriced though for the amount of content you get (& there are already rumours of a bigger expansion in the pipeline).

Overall its still a ‘must have’ – As a fantastic ‘gateway game’ for noobies, or a light ‘palette cleanser’ for heavyweight geek-gamers (like me!)
Not quite yet a 5 star ‘all time classic’ though.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWonderful family game that combines chance and strategy. Everyone loved it. Only oddity was that the player boards were in German! Not a show stopper as only summarizes info in instructions. Great game 🙂

El Dorado is a great game. It’s relatively easy to learn but still has enough depth to develop cunning strategies. It is basically a race game but with a deck building element. Balancing these two sides of the game is the key to success. I am sure we will be playing this game for a long time.
