How to fill cracks in wood
Before you start
- Test the filler on a small, hidden area of wood to make sure you’re happy with the colour.
- If you are, lightly sand the area that you’re going to fill.
- Use a damp cloth to wipe away any loose bits.
- Leave it to completely dry before you fill it.
Application
- Push the filler firmly into the hole or crack. Leave it slightly raised above the wood to make sure the repair is properly filled.
- Before the filler dries, smooth it with a wet knife.
- If the hole is quite deep, fill it in 5mm layers waiting two hours between each layer.
- After two hours, you will be able to drill, sand, plane, file, nail and screw into it.

Pricey but then again it all is now! Great produc
Very easy to use and the quality is amazing,
Highly recommended
Worked wonders on an old skirting board that dipped into the walls. A few coats of this and a good sand down and the skirting boards look amazing.
My Cockapoo decided to chew the skirting board at the top of the stairs. I sanded it down and applied this with a small pallet knife. Went on easy and sanded down smooth afterwards. Made a neat job of his mess. Can hardly tell he chewed it. It’s in a small tub but I hardly used any although this was a small area. Would highly recommend.
When package arrived unfortunately the wood filler was hard. When I inquired regarding the product a replacement was sent and received within one day. Yes it was unfortunate that the original wood filer was hard, but the speed of a replacement was very impressive.
…..and the filler does a great job, hardens very well and sands to a smooth finish, i would recommend it.
I imagined a slightly larger amount but it’s exactly what it says on the tin!
Good product though.
I used this product to fill some holes in my bathrooms skirting board. The white finish is nice but it doesn’t match the very standard contract white satin finish on the wood work at my home so results may vary. It’s also very expensive relative to other brands but it does set reasonably quickly and it sets very hard which was assuring. I trust the repair will last a long time.
A good product. I did need to mix a little water and it was then excellent for the purpose
So easy to use would like the pot to be a bit wider. Very easy to use. Brought to repair a hole in a hollow door. Now you would not even know there is a hole there. 10/10
It’s a very small tub, enough for a few small jobs. Mine came very dry, but mix a small amount of water into it and it’s fine.
I think I may have already done a review on a different size bucket of this as I bought them back to back. If I said it was good, I am sure I meant it.
I got this wood filler for some work under my stairs to fill cracks and smooth out inperfections. Its done the job, definitely recommend. Good quality product and easy to use!
Easy to use tad expensive for size of container but worth it for me as made job quick and easy. Able to sand and paint and could not see the fille
It has a clean white finish that’s easy to sand down but I’ve found in the past that the pots go off and set hard quicker than expected (that’s why I’ve stopped buying the tubes because the nozzle gets blocked really quick.) There’s a polythene disc inside covering the filler but unless you keep the loose edges tucked in the edges will go crusty and hard. So top tip use around the edges first and keep the contents flat and even. Maybe an extra piece of clingfilm will help if you’re going to store it away for later use.
I used this wood filler to fill a fairly large hole that I had made in a table, some years ago. Of all the silly reasons why I made this hole: I wanted to mount a fan to blow air into my Amiga 1200 trapdoor expansion slot, to cool the accelerator card. Some time later, I found that this fan was not required and my computer’s PSU was faulty. Anyway, on with the review: it’s best to apply this filler in thin layers, since it takes a few hours to dry. I made the mistake of slopping a lot of it on at once. I’m sure you’ll be sensible enough not to do that.
I’ve recently taken on the task of updating my parents’ kitchen. We’re trying to upcycle my parents’ existing wooden kitchen by replacing the worktops and ironmongery, but painting the cupboard doors to lighten them and give a more modern country kitchen effect. This wood filler is the essential ingredient that will allow me to change the ironmongery.
I’ve applied it thickly over every place that needs filling. Really thickly. Don’t worry about removing excess whilst this is still wet if you’re able to sand the surface down afterwards. This sands easily, and if you’re not trying to remove excess before this dries, will fill quite small holes easily. Photos are of this (pre-painting, but sanded after application) filling a surface crack in the panel, the main hole for the door handle, and the holes from two panel pins that helped to hold the handle fixing in place. This does use a lot of product – but, like Polyfilla, you tend to need to use an excess in order to get good, flat results. For the small scale of my job, this small size is ideal, and the white colour will be the easiest to cover when painting.
