I bought this unit based on Which? Magazine recommendations. Some units scored higher but this was the best value for money unit.
Like others I was amazed at the amount of water extracted from the room. This is a must for homes that are a bit older and less well insulated than more modern homes. It’s worth the investment.
With a Which? Review you know the product has been extensively tested and as objective a review as possible.
The unit is heavy and not easy taking it upstairs but that’s about the only negative in mind.
We’re very happy with the dehumidifier, it is loud on full power constant, but then it would be as it’s working hard. It’s a lot quieter on low, so you just need to find what works for you. We’re very happy and it’s working like a bomb 😀
Purchased to take moisture out of air and help dry washing inside during winter. Only recently purchased and ran for 24 hours on first use. Slightly noisy on max but did exactly as hoped. Reduced RH and noticed it taking a chill out of the air.
We have a small room where we dry laundry. It was feeling damp and clothes take ages to dry. Since using this dehumidifier clothes dry quickly and room is no longer has damp. Great product!
I have been using this for the past 2 weeks or so. It has helped visibly to reduce the humidity levels. Unfortunately, we can’t dry the clothes outside as we live in an apartment, so the dryer mode comes in handy and clothes are dry in few hours even in the middle of the winter with this. We also had a door which was getting beefy and difficult to close during winter months. With this product we no longer have that problem. Since we don’t have a way to continuously drain the water, we are clearing the tank once or twice in a day, which is a slight inconvenience, but still no complaints on that!. We bought this mainly to fight the moulds in the bathroom and near the windows. Will post updates on that later. Thanks
Will this remove moisture from air? Definitely.
Will it be silent while doing so….?
Not very.
While it will not wake me up it does wake my girlfriend up as it comes on and off, on the lowest setting.
I needed to quickly read the manual as the interface ia not 100% intuitive… but it is easy enough to use.
I used to live in a tropical country and these were required in the months when the concrete building we lived in ducked below 10c . So, back in Britain and trying not to put the heating on – I suddenly realised damp was becoming a major issue.
Bought one – not cheap but when you lift it you’ll get why. These are a major appliance. Imagine the weight of a small fridge rather than a space heater.
It’s a bit of shock the first time you run it and you pour out a litre of water. Wow – that was in my home!
Now I just continually rotate it between rooms. The first sign of condensation on the inside of the windows and it gets switched on.
It’s a proper piece of equipment and it feels like it’s built to last.
So reading consumer reviews I know the Meaco Arete 20L appears to the pick of the bunch – but try getting hold of one!! (I am currently writing this in Dec 2022)
So instead plumped for this one which was 90 cheaper than the Meaco and more importantly available. It arrived well packed and protected. Instructions are a little wordy but at least they are clear I suppose. Since using this the humidity in the at winter time has been well controlled. It has a on/off timer function as well as a Smart extract, Dryer and always on function as well.
In terms of manoeuvrability I only scored this 3 stars – it does come with castors, so if you are using this on hard floors this would be higher, but I am using this on carpeted floors and likewise as the unit is quite low and I am 6ft, it is just easier for me to lift and shift as needed.
There are 3 fan settings, the highest being quite load but strong extraction and ventilation, the lowest being more than bearable for daytime use and, with the TV, hardly noticeable however not something you could have in the bedroom overnight.
I have not tried the dryer function yet – essentially in the UK come the Winter months you are best drying clothes indoors, however in a house with high relative humidity of say 60% this can take longer. That said seeing how much moisture this thing extracts during normal use I expect that this will help dry clothes a lot quicker.
So if you had pinned your hopes on getting a Meaco I would recommend this unit as an alternative and at 90 cheaper a bit of a bargain as well!
I already have a number of Russell Hobbs products, including the RHDH1061B, a 300ml/day dehumidifier I use in the bedroom that I reviewed only a day or so ago. Thus, I was confident that my purchase would be a well worthwhile large humidifier that would be capable of reducing the humidity efficiently. And so it proved. Comparing this Russell Hobbs dehumidifier to another unbranded product I used many years ago it is far superior. The user is able to set humidity as well as time variables and thereby gain the best utility that this product can offer.
However, there are often negatives with many products one purchases and this is true of this item. My first impression on switching it on was how noisy it is, even using the “Silent” setting. The method of setting the timer is not well described in the comprehensive user manual as is the methos for setting a target humidity. I am sure that all will become clear as I make more use of the item but I have already discovered how best to use it. I turned the unit on as I went to bed and, when I got up the next morning the humidity, shown on the control panel was down to 40% and the living room windows showed no sign of condensation. As this was the main reason I went for the Russell Hobbs dehumidifier I was very happy with the result.
The water collection container, at 10 litres or 17.5 pints is well up to the job and it is also very easy to take the container out and empty it.
So, all in all, I am very happy with my purchase, though the noise level reduced my overall rating. Using the unit at night however means that the noise is not an issue and I am very happy to recommend this dehumidifier for use in larger areas.
This is a fairly decent machine, picked up with a bit of discount in a sale.
It’s quite effective but there a few minor annoyances. The humidity sensor is about 5 to 10 % higher than any of freestanding sensors I have. I could probably return it but I can account for it so I won’t bother. The machine is a bit noisier than expected, not too bad especially for the price. The water bucket is hard to check the level on, and as with it seems all dehumidifiers, a bit tricky to empty with no spillage/drips.
If your want a fairly powerful machine but don’t won’t to spend too much money, this could be a good option.
Fantastic product. Dehumidifies fast. A wee bit noisy even in silent mode but we have it in a spare room and don’t hear it. Timer is excellent. Can’t believe how much moisture it removes !!
Bought this de-humidifier to clear moisture from the air in my bungalow and to compliment my existing one. I felt having one in the hallway and a second at the rear would keep the moisture down which they do and having a humidity level readout is a great feature. The RHDH 1001 does what it says but also dries the washing in a few hours so it save us having to use the dryer [saving money]
It’s quite noisy but it does run on q quieter setting but less efficient but it does take a lot of moisture out of the air
I’d recommend this it does the job greatvfor a large room bedroom , living room etc amd it has wheels and a handle and is easy to use
I wanted to buy a dehumidifier for a long time and I regret I haven’t done it sooner . The amount of water it pulls out from the house is enormous. I also use it as I dry my laundry just leave it on the Dryer mode overnight and it’s dry next morning. The water tank is massive and I can tell when it’s on I can breathe better.
My dog is allergic to dust mites and mould spores and been on antibiotics combined with steroids for most of his life . Since my purchase symptoms eased a bit . I cannot recclmend it enough for all especially if you have anyone suffering from the allergy it’s a must have at home. It has three modes, smart option, dryer or continuous. Also three levels of extraction. It’s not too loud and really I just forget its on. Timer function is brilliant but smart mode does all it needs depending on the moisture lvl in the air I want .
I have a large area to cover downstairs combined living room / kitchen and diner and it manages perfectly. It has small whells so it’s really easy to manoeuvre as well.
Some reviews say about the water container but I haven’t found any difficulty in taking it out or putting it back. It has a handle so it’s easy to carry , empty and put it back. Of course if you move the machine while doing that you can spill some leftovers in the dehumidifier chamber but it’s all logical to me .
I think it’s an excellent dehumidifier and bargain for this price.
Got this 2 weeks ago as I have been having problems with mould and mildew. It’s made a huge difference. I can’t beleive how much water it collects. I have to empty it at least twice a day. No sign of mould now. The only downside is it’s quite heavy on electricity but worth it.
I may have a damp house but this thing has been working non stop for a month and consistently pulling out water with no issues. I may get another 2 so I don’t have to move it between 3 downstairs rooms.
I use this to dry clothes as I don’t have a dryer at home. Works really well in a small room (with door closed and window shut). As long as you don’t hang out too many items, on full dryer mode it can practically dry clothes in one day! If you hang out a whole load, it can take around a few days to dry. It has different noise levels which is great as you can put it on a quieter fan setting at night. It still makes quite a loud vibrating noise on any setting, but this seems to be the case for all large dehumidifiers that actually work as opposed to smaller tabletop ones which aren’t effective. It was quite expensive, but definitely worth it for drying clothes indoors and removing any excess damp from a room. Good tank capacity and handle makes it easy to empty. Just be careful that you don’t knock out the black plug at the back of the dehumidifier or the water go all over the floor rather than into the tank (learnt this the hard way!). One other thing to mention is that is generates quite a lot of heat as a by-product. Overall would recommend.
Happy customer, with good product.
All features are working as expected, only one minus is – is quite heavy so is not that ‘portable’ 😉 is not a 25Kg bag … but is heavy if you using under desk or similar place.
So far so good, been using this for about two weeks now and it’s been very effective, water tank is a pain to empty but otherwise no complaints. Much better compared to a smaller unit I have been using for a while now. Quite noisy but suspect all units of this size/specs are like that.
Would recommend—works effectively and efficiently. However, it’s on the loud side, so we can’t run it at night or in the early morning without worrying about disturbing our neighbours. Good value for money!
Basically just bought this to help dry laundry as fed up with it hanging around for ages to dry! Does what it says on the tin and I am happy that within a couple of hours, everything is dry and ready for ironing (groan!)
Highly recommended
A great dehumidifier that does not take up much space. Powerful to absorb humidity in the conservatory. Helps clothes to dry up in less time. Overall a very good product.
This dehumidifier is used in my kitchen because I drymclothes on a clothes horse, have a condensing tumble dryer and cook, all in quite a small space that unless you have the window open for all of these things will get damp in my kitchen. During the winter it is too cold and I don’t want the windows open. I do still open them but don’t have to have them open as long.
I have used this with the drawer to collect the water and works very well but found it tricky to manoeuvre and found the drawer when full tricky for me to carry as I have physical problems. When filled with water the drawer is heavy. The unit itself has wheels and a handle on too this means it can be pushed to move it.
I have a lot of condensation in my kitchen and have placed it on my worktop with the hose running into my kitchen sink. This saves me having to empty the unit. I clean the filter every other day to ensure it keeps working properly or lint will build up. I have the hose running load than the level of the dehumidifier to ensure proper drainage.
This unit worked at straight away and started to collect water.
The unit can be turned to a quite setting but does not empty as well and can be put on a timer. You can also set the humidity you want. I turn mine to ‘silent’ when I am not cooking, have tumble dryer on or have laundry drying. Otherwise I have it on auto where it will just run all the time.
This unit blows cold air from the top of it and this needs to be kept clear from anything and it needs space at the front and back so it works properly.
This is an excellent dehumidifier and has empty out so much water and I know it saving me money because I don’t have to have the windows open and heating on high to keep the house warm and is stopping my getting damp in the future.
I was not sure about this product, however after using it for the first time I managed to remove a lot of water and humidity from the room. Dropped from 70% to 40% in just a couple of hours. Definitely do the job!
Works fantastically and I’m the colder months it has taken 2ltrs of water out of the air in one night. I’ve not had the problem sone have had with the cut off switch as mine does work
We bought the Russell Hobbs 10L to replace an Ecoair DD122 Simple, bought in March 2016. It’s our fourth dehumidifier and favourite so far.
On “silent” mode, the Russell Hobbs is slightly noisier than the Ecoair, but is a much more efficient dehumidifier and doesn’t waste energy by putting out heat. There’s no odour either.
The Ecoair and the slimline yacht model we had before that both had inadequate filters and became clogged with fluff despite our obeying the cleaning instructions. The Ecoair also had a fussy device for stopping any water dripping into the case when the tank was removed which we had to take out to prevent clogging. These problems began after 2 years’ use.
We live in a 2 bedroomed bungalow and find the Russell Hobbs perfectly adequate for our needs, which include drying the wash.
I bought this dehumidifier to replace my broken one. It is easy to carry up and down stairs as needed with the handle. I got this to help deal with ongoing damp in my house. I have found that it pulls a lot of water out of the air and it has got rid of the stale smell that I was getting. I like that it states what the humidity is on the digital display. I will mainly use this on continuous mode, but I like the features available. For the price and the extended warranty this is an excellent product. I would highly recommend it.
Addition-
After using this for 6 months, I would now have bought a second one if I could afford it. Brings the humidity down by about 8% in only 30 minutes or less. Best dehumidifier I have had.
