Did the job! Has a lovely finish and I didn’t notice any real odour when painting either.
I’ve never used varnish before but this was super easy to use and did what I needed it to.
Purchased this for interior door touch up on some recently installed doors & as far as I can tell is not for exterior use.
Touch drys quite quickly & brushes clean in cold water, very pleased with the size, quality & price.
This product is an absolute pleasure to work with giving a beautiful finish. It dries quickly in around 20minutes outside enabling to finish a project within a few hours. Sanding between coats, (400 grit), essential.
Needs to be very thoroughly stirred before every use in order to achieve the satin finish as otherwise it dries to a gloss. Milky-white in the can, the colour clears as it dries.
Ideally needs a synthetic bristle brush that is intended to apply water-based finishes such as this; unless thoroughly washed after use, natural and animal bristle brushes will dry hard and need special chemical treatments to clean and make them usable; instructions and relevant data are on the pot.
The varnish is almost free of odours – there is a very light smell that does not travel far beyond the pot. Other than stirring and preventing drips or spillages, it could not be any easier to use.
I used both the Satin and Gloss versions on raw pine stained with a water based stain and there is only minimal difference in the glossiness of each after three coats
This stuff is very easy to use, gives a good finish and doesn’t smell too strong. Good value too. Will use again.
A 500ml pot is enough to do one side of a pine door and frame with three coats with a decent bit left over.
Easy to wipe up any drips and also easy to clean brushes in water. I bought a brush marketed specifically as a varnish brush and I think that helped with application. I have now had 9 uses and cleans out of one brush with this stuff and it is still fine.
Caution that it can ‘lift’ and move water based stains even if they’ve been left for weeks to dry so makes sure you go with the grain and with care for the first coat if that’s your use case.
