Would recommend using pva glue as well as the supplied screws.
Also using a bradawl or small drill to start the screw holes in the corner posts.
Fit the posts to the roof first and use a weather proof paint or varnish to finish.
I have used 2 x 8mm dia wood dowels, (Wickes or Band Q) though the roof holes instead of the supplied rope. When fixed to a simple wood support this stops the feeder swinging about.
As well as a piece of thin ply or plastic sheet screwed or glued to the bottom of the feeder and sticking out each side to give an extra landing/ queuing place for the birds, which they like, saves squabbles when landing.
You may want to put a small plant drip tray into it for the bird food, makes cleaning easier.
18×18 cm square ones fit, but you could use a round one.
This bird table is cheap and flimsy, the dowel split when assembling, eventually got it together and bar it it 3-4 times otherwise it’s not going to last long outside
I loved this as I could hang it on a tree to stop the cats reaching the birds! Not quite as solid as I’d hoped, the tray is MDF. However, I’ve treated with a wood stain which will hopefully prolong it’s life!
A small bird house that was reasonably priced. Easy to put together but not quite as big as I thought . The birds love it as I think they feel safe. I just put 2 trays of bird food in and get a variety of birds visiting
Wished I had the (tree) bird house when the children were small. It’s cute. I like that it has a open tray to put food on. The food does disappears, so the birds must like grabbing a bite, then flying off easily.
Only concern – It may need extra weather proofing for better protection.
As this was quite cheap, I wasn’t expecting too much. It needed a quick sand on the edges and there were a couple of nails poking through. As far as I could see, it hadn’t been treated with wood preservative of any kind. Other than that it was fine. Before I assembled it, I gave the outside a couple of coats of Cuprinol, which made all the difference. It looks just the job now and should last a while. I suppose you get what you pay for, but with a bit of effort it can be improved
Made from a combo of solid wood and plywood. Had planned to protect with water based wood stain that I had anyway to add protection. Put a couple of coats on the plywood roof. Easy to put together. One staple was was sticking out and had to be pulled out with pliers and a couple of rough edges needed sanding but is worth what it cost.
It was relatively easy to assemble but the screws received didn’t correspond to the list in the instructions. Be careful – too large a screw will split the wood. Easily remedied if you, like me, keep a few screws handy.
I gave it a coat of water proof paint (fence paint) just to be on the safe side.
I use it inside a ground feeder cage. The birds are happy with it. I’m happy with it.
We had 4″ of rain recently. The bird food was in a plant saucer inside the table – it was bone dry despite the wind and rain.
