Great product, easy to use. Can be set to zero each time for multiple weights. Metric or imperial. Looks smart on my black granite top.

Just what I was looking for. They are also a good size to sit out on the worktop.

Thank you! The scale is really nice, it’s small and light, which is exactly what I was looking for, and it’s easy to use. It also arrived really fast. I’ve only used it once, but so far so good, just a variation of 1 gram when weighting some things twice, I’m very happy with my purchase.

We live in a small apartment so we don’t have a lot of space, so anything that helps to save space is valuable. It’s small at 38mm x 28 mm and easily stands on its side in the cupboard. This scale is perfect for all my baking and cooking needs. I like that I can use any bowl and easily zero it to add ingredients. It only has two buttons, one for the unit and one for zeroing. It looks nice on the counter with a black marble effect. It seems to be quite sturdy too as I have dropped it a few times and it has survived.

I really like these scales. Comparing them with my existing scales, they seem very accurate. The ability to weigh up to 8kg is incredibly useful. You can rezero the weighing mechanism to weight multiple different ingredients. The aquatronic function to weigh liquid ingredients is fairly novel in my opinion and one I’ve seen on other electronic scales. Loses one star as there’s no bowl included.

I was attracted to these scales as I have a black granite worktop and thought they would look good on it and also because these weight up to 8kg, which is high for small kitchen scales.

It’s good that these have the tare function, so that you can zeroise weights as you go, adding to the same mixing bowl. The aquatronic function also allows you to weigh wet as well as dry goods. This scale is also nice and small for storage. One of the downsides is to do with its size though as you need to be able to see the display when the bowl is in place and that’s a bit tricky with my large mixing bowl.

This is a compact kitchen scale and comes with the battery supplied. They have a mottled surface which fits perfectly with my black worktops. There is a plastic tab to pull to activate the battery but it was hard to remove. The scales are light and easily tuck away in the drawer or cupboard. This scale weighs in 4 different units — grams, millilitres, ounces and fluid ounces — you just push the ‘unit’ button to cycle through the options to choose what you want.

You use whatever bowl you like and set the scale to zero once it’s on. Interestingly, and differently from my previous scales, the ‘aquatronic’ function lets you weight your liquids which is really handy as I can never find a jog when I want one! This scale has a maximum of 8 kilos which I can’t imagine needing.

These scales do exactly what you need and for me with the aquatronic function a little more.

These scales look and feel very well made. They have a surface that looks like marble, which is thick and nicely moulded. The touch buttons are easy to use and the screen is big and clear and it’s easy to read at a glance.

They have a reasonably small footprint, so won’t take up too much space to store them, but they have a large weighing capacity of 8 kg. So basically, you could weigh all the ingredients for the Christmas cake at once, as long as you have a bowl with a big enough capacity and also a small enough base that it won’t obscure the screen as you’re measuring.

The weigh and add function is really helpful, so you don’t need to keep removing previously weighed ingredients in order to weigh the next lot. It simply resets back to zero at each step.

These scales have a very good guarantee, which is a good indication of how well made they are. They should last far longer than my last scales, which were a Lidl’s special, and survived only 2 years of moderate use. These feel like they will last me many years, even with a toddler trying to help me weigh the ingredients for cookies and crispie cakes!

    4 stars.

These salter scales are stylish and do the job for basic weighing of food. The first challenge is removing to plastic tag around the batteries that stops it working until you remove it. It was really hard to remove, make sure you pull hard. The scale diameter is 18cm and can weigh up to 8KG. You can swap between differting weight measurements. Overall these are really good value kitchen scales

  20. ClaritaWhitt says:

This is a nice compact kitchen scale and comes boxed and with a battery supplied. The plastic tab saving battery power is wider than the battery cover aperture so you will need to open the small battery compartment, lift the battery and remove the plastic tab. Re-assemble and you’re good to go.

There is no bowl or dish to use on the scale, you can put your own bowl or plate on to measure ingredients. There is a handy ‘add and weigh’ function which means after each ingredient has been put in your bowl, you can return the weight to zero ready to add the next ingredient, saving you from weighing separately to put in another bowl.

This scale uses four weighing units — grams, ml, ounces and fluid ounces — and this is obtained by pressing the ‘unit’ through each measurement until you get the one you want to use.

I think these scales are compact and attractive. They take up very little space in a drawer or upright in a cupboard. Salter makes a wide range of kitchen scales and you can almost buy to match the colour of your kitchen because they generally operate in the same way using the same weights, you just need to check that it has a maximum kilo weight to suit your needs — this one has a maximum capacity of 8 kilos.

I like these compact scales very much and the black mottled design matches my kitchen worktops perfectly. The only reason I haven’t given this five stars is that pressing the ‘unit’ and ‘zero’ button areas didn’t always respond at the first touch.

This is a pretty decent small kitchen scale. It seems to be quite accurate, at least I haven’t discovered any glaring inaccuracies. It is easy to use and it looks quite nice and unobtrusive. This basically does all the basics and for an everyday kitchen scale it should be enough for most people.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am an amazon vine reviewer. We have been using the Salter 1009 BKDR electronic kitchen scales for the last couple of weeks. As I write this review my bread maker is baking a loaf using some ingredients that I weighed out using the Salter scales.

The scales arrived well boxed, with a battery plastic insulating pull out strip, which you have to remove to connect the battery. I did not pull out the strip firmly enough to get all of the plastic out and so had to remove the battery to get the rest of the plastic out. So my tip is to pull firmly on the strip and you should be OK.

To switch on the scales just touch the right hand “zero” sign and “0000” appears followed by “0”. There are 4 weighing units that you can use. Pressing the “unit” in turn four times brings up, “g”, “ml”, “oz” and finally “fl.oz.”

As an example of using the scales, my loaf uses 200 g of brown’ and 200 g of white strong flours, plus a few other ingredients including water.

I put the bread maker “pan” onto the scales and then turned the scales on. I had selected “g” before and so the scales default to that unit of measure. The scales show “0” at the point. So when I then add the flour with a spoon I can weigh out the 200 g of white flour shown on the LED screen and then carry on adding the brown flour until “400” is shown on the screen. I added the salt, sugar, yeast by tea spoon sizes to the mix, the weight is “taken care of” in the spoon’s volume but the weight still adds to the 400 g on the scale. I then added 280 ml of water and this does add 280 g to the weight.

You can set the “fl oz'” choice and place an empty container on the scales which zeros the scales again. Then you can add water, milk etc. to your container to weigh out the exact fluid ounces that you want — so a graduated jug is not the only container for handling liquids –as my 280 ml example above shows.

The scales look good and are stable on the kitchen work surface. Their maximum diameter is 18 cm. However, if you want to see the scale whilst you use them then the “vertical” scale is about 14 cm and the LED scale can still be seen.

The scales can weigh up to 8 kg — 8000 g – so the weighing range is very wide and sufficient for most ingredients in the kitchen I would think. I am a basic cook but do use scales a lot to weigh dry pasta, rice and items like that.

So overall, the Salter 1009 BKDR scales are easy to use and look good. They are also quite well priced on the amazon web site. One more hour before that bread is ready — it smells nice already!

These scales are rather natty. They are really slim but have a clear digital read-out.

The scales are manufactured in a stylish granite that looks fab. The granite is very easy to clean.

You can ‘zero’ the scales as you add further ingredients, which is great for baking etc.

A classy addition to any kitchen.

  25. Irma4578vb says:

I selected this because my other scales are only designed for weights up to 5kg. Now the number of times I have needed to weigh above that is close to zero – but you never know!

In terms of quality, these are pretty much identical to the rest of the Salter ranges. They are not 100% accurate – but they are more than adequate for domestic baking and cookery.

If you need to weigh heavier amounts, put these on your list to consider.

  26. IrvinRQTdnnaq says:

     United Kingdom

I wanted this because it can weigh up to 8kg, which is very good for this type of scale. It is surprisingly small in diameter (18.4 cm or 7″), so it’s easy to store. But if you exclude the display from the diameter, because you need to see it whilst weighing, you have 14.2 cm or 5″ space left to stand things on. That said, I can still see the display whilst using my standard-sized mixing bowl, but it would limit you for weighing bigger heavy things.

It can display metric, imperial and liquid. The tare function is great for baking. It allows you to reset to zero after adding each ingredient so that you can use only this bowl, thus saving a lot of washing up.

It has four tiny rubberised legs which keep a good grip on a work surface, and a wipe-clean glass top. The marble effect is not convincing: obviously fake, funky dots would be better, or a plain black or slate grey would look classier. Be careful how you store the scale, I learnt the hard way with another glass-topped scale and cracked it when keeping it in shoved into a box of baking equipment. It isn’t delicate, but eventually something with a hard corner will damage it if you store it like that.

As other reviewers have said, the pull-out tab to release the battery does not want to budge. Flip out the battery first and then lift the plastic tab out instead.

  27. ACWStuartfb says:

This has to be my favorite of the salter scales I have tried as others have said the battery tab is hard to pull unless you remove the battery first which is very easily done. then you are good to go the scale itself has a lovely black glass speckled top that seems strong and thick without being heavy , it is accurate in 1g increments with an add and weigh function press to turn on set your measurements required and weigh in the bowl , great, the only down side for me is I would have liked a wall hanging hole on the back as thts where I keep my scale .

This is a compact circular digital kitchen scale with a black marble finish. It is supplied in a branded box which contains, the kitchen scale with battery already fitted and an instruction leaflet. It has a smooth glass top which is easy to clean but looks a little plastic underneath.

As others have said the tab that isolates the battery is very difficult to remove. The compartment is underneath and easy to access. It is best to actually remove the CR2032 battery that is supplied fitted by pushing past the location tab near the + mark rather than trying to pull the tab out. The scale is topped with a glass platform measuring 19 cm in diameter and 2 cm high with a capacity of up to 8 KG. It has a large and clear LCD display and the touch sensitive controls to turn it on and off. change the units and zero the scale.

It is easy and straightforward to use where you either put on the item you want to weigh or a container to hold it and zero the scale before pouring in the ingredient. It also includes an add and weigh function so that you can reset this scale and weigh multiple ingredients in the same bowl. You can also use the Aquatronic function to measure liquids in ml or fl.oz. It was easy to read the display and it seemed accurate against known weights and quantities.

A simple to use and stylish scale, this is not cheap but is backed with a 15 year guarantee from a well established manufacture.

Very and surprisingly small digital scale. It has a plastic white speckled plinth which may blend in with your worktop. It has a large digital display which I like and it is easy to switch between ounces, grams and fluid ounces/millitres. You use your own choice of bowl so need to zero the read out after placing the bowl on the scale. You can also zero the read out if you want to add multiple ingredients in the one bowl. The instructions say the scale can weigh up to 8kg – a huge amount for so flimsy feeling a scale but this could be very useful for weighing parcels etc. I would worry that anything too hard e.g. a metal pan might crack the plastic surface.

It comes with a round lithium battery and there is a tab to pull to activate it. I simply could not shift this tab no matter how I tried and ended up having to take out the battery from its slot and try again to remove it. The plastic tab eventually came away but I was worried I would break the mechanism before I had even used the scale. Other devices I have bought have had tabs that were very easy to remove. This scale is available in other colours – white and plain black for example which might suit your decor better. I like how small it is – so it is easy to store in the cupboard or put among my cook books.

Excellent modern kitchen scales which are attractive, take up little space, are easy to read and are very accurate. Until now my wife was using scales where each item had to be weighed separately whereas now she is thrilled that she can simply set a bowl on the mock granite surface and hit zero after adding each ingredient. At a touch you can measure in metric, imperial or liquids. They have an 8kg. capacity and a fifteen year guarantee.

My only criticism is that for some unknown reason the tab which needs to be pulled out to activate the battery is ridiculously hard to remove, I ended up using pliers which is a bit extreme.

  31. Anonymous says:

Not a massive fan of the pattern – a very fake granite effect – but the scales arr easy to use and accurate.

I’m actually using these as postage scales in my home office and finally I’m able to correctly stamp letters and parcels.

    Very useful.

Watch when you remove the battery tab – I found that it was really tight and had to remove the battery to remove the pastic tab as it was a super tight fit.and pulling it felt like i would break the tabs holding the battery in place
