Wanted a small but stylish kitchen scale.
Super easy to use and clean.
Would recommend
These scales are great for using every day to weigh general ingredients. They are easy to use and don’t take up much space in the cupboard.
Use it for baking and it is very easy to use.
I have had a number of Salter electronic scales to review, the first lasting about 5 years before water ingress caused it’s premature demise.
This scale is a very cool looking compact scale which will look great in most modern contemporary kitchen.
I have looked at a number of Salter scales and my only improvement to this one would be an increase in the display size. I prefer the backlit display
Another feature about these scales is that they weigh up to 5kg. Some cheaper scales only go up to 3kg. This may not seem like an issue but with a roast one can quickly go past this numbe
Compact, easy-to-clean kitchen scale which I’ve enjoyed using and have found to be pretty useful and accurate. I like the wipe clean glass top too and don’t feel the need to tidy it away when it’s not being used. The display is sometimes a little slow and occasionally it goes a bit haywire before settling but setting it back to zero and starting over quickly sorts this.
My husband finds it less practical to use when trying to swipe it on and/or choose the unit of measure because of how low it is to the counter top. He ends up applying pressure to the scale itself but generally he finds it a pretty reasonable kitchen scale and likes being able to weigh using our own bowls and containers.
I have to prepare the same recipe regularly and achieve similar outcomes. Measurement of ingredients is critical. These scales have proved very accurate now on several occasions. They are also very easy to use. Recommended!
Very stylish! Its extremely sensitive which is a bonus because cheaper ones I have used take lots of taps to switch on. Very easy to switch between measuring categories and large numbers so I don’t have to use my glasses.
I make my own bread and getting the measurements accurate is essential to making a good loaf.
Because the surface is flat glass, you do need to use a bowl (not supplied) to contain your ingredients. You also need to chose a bowl that does not cover the display.
Judging by my bread results the scales do weigh consistently. However the idea of extrapolation of volume in mls from weight is flawed. If it was ly water, then that is fair, but if the fluid is denser, for example syrup, then the ml scale will reaD far to low.
Apart from those quibbles, it is easy and accurate. A nice compact addition to the kitchen.
After buying the Duronic KS1009 Super Slim Sleek Design Digital Display 5KG Electronic Kitchen Scales – 2 Years Warranty I vowed I would never again to buy a set of kitchen scales that use twin CR-2032 coin batteries as the batteries are so expensive and don’t last long (despite the Duronic scales being excellent in other respects, it’s bright blue LED display really drains the batteries quickly). I got this set of Salter Mono scales free to review via Amazon Vine and I was very disappointed that these are also powered by two CR-2032 batteries (although having an unlit LCD display, the Salter CR-2032 batteries do last a lot longer, many months of casual use). However my old Salter electronic scales had one 9V PP3 battery that lasted over five years between replacement (and the scales lasted 20 years) which I would far prefer. Still these Salter Mono scales do have a massive 15 year warranty, just it’s unfortunate that the running cost of replacement CR-2032 batteries over that period will probably exceed the cost of the 20 scales. The first two CR-2032 batteries are supplied by Salter. In the end we bought a second pair of kitchen scales to use with the Duronic set, the Andrew James Electronic Digital Kitchen Scales With Glass Platform that runs on 2 x AAA batteries (not supplied), as the longer lasting batteries mean the scales are always reliable and ready to go (I would recommend this basic set of scales for this reason alone).
Still, in use I found these Salter Mono Electronic scales actually worked far better than I expected as I was very wary of the touch (in)sensitive buttons, but I find these button work perfectly fine for me. There may be a slight delay when pressing ‘tare’ while the scales think about it as there’s no positive switch click feedback to say the scales have registered the touch. But otherwise the two buttons are working very reliably for us, and I don’t even have to wet my fingers to get a response as often happens with my Nexus 7 tablet. The Salter’s two ‘unit’ and ‘on/zero’ buttons are now on the front side of the scales, not the top. The units displayed are metric g, UK fluid ozs, UK lb and oz, or liquid ml. The maximum weight is about 5.6kg, where g/ml are displayed in whole units while oz’s and fluid oz’s go to 0.1 resolution. The ‘zero/tare’ button allows for adding different weights of ingredients in a single bowl. If the batteries are low the display says ‘Lo’ and if the total weight exceeds 5.6kg the display says ‘EEEE’. As others have said having the display on the top of the scales does restrict the maximum size of bowl you can use on the scales, but large bowls up to a base width of 16cm are fine. The top of these Salter Mono scales is 20cm wide (diameter). To switch off the scales you keep your finger on the on/zero button for 3 seconds. Very usefully the scales stay on one minute if at zero or for three minutes if it shows a weight (we find that our other Duronic scale’s one minute display with weight is too short and the scales can annoyingly switch off when in use). The weight is detected using the scales four small feet, so the scales have to stand on a solid flat surface like a laminate worktop to function correctly (they won’t work on a carpet and could get into difficulties on uneven wooden boards). The Salter’s LCD scale is quite large at 5.5 x 2.5 cm and easy to read provided it’s not covered by the mixing bowl. The sealed in touch switches and LCD panel display may help the scales survive minor kitchen spills a bit better as well.
Overall not a bad set of kitchen scales with a great 15 year warranty, although the touch sensitive buttons may not suit older people with limited use of their hands. We rate the scales 3 to 4 stars, depending on how annoying you find the touch buttons, scale-top display and the expensive twin CR-2032 batteries. If I had to choose I would probably go for Andrew James Electronic Digital Kitchen Scales With Glass Platform instead, although they aren’t anywhere near as slick looking as these Salters and some might find the Andrew James LCD display a bit too small and recessed to easily read (but I find it fine with reading glasses). In their favour, CR-2032 batteries do have good performance in the cold.
This kitchen scale is very well made and very stylish. The scale is powered by 2 CR2032 batteries (2 supplied) .The weighing surface is 20 cm in diameter and the maximum weight reading is 5kg.It is easy to operate once used to the touch buttons. These buttons are now located on the front edge of the unit and not on the top as shown in the product description which makes operating the scale easier. The unit automatically turns itself off after 1 minute if zero is shown on the display and 3 minutes if the same weight is shown on the display. This should aid battery life considerably.
This is a nice, inexpensive scale by a well known company when it comes to scales.
This is attractive, easy to use, easy to clean and seems accurate. You can use imperial or metric and the screen is easy to read.
You can use the scale for both solids and liquids, and batteries are included which is always a plus.
I find it a great size for storage and it is a nice little add on to my kitchen. Very happy.
Nice clean looking scale with a glass top. the scale measures in grams or lbs and ounces. It has the ability to reset to zero you can use any bowl, reset to zero them add ask your ingredients one by one resetting between each addition. It also has a fluid ounce / liquid ml option which I find massively useful as it means you can add all your ingredients, wet or dry, into one bowl.
My only concern for the scale is that the reset and measurement buttons are on the side which is a little awkward to access. I much prefer top controls on these scales. The photo is not the same as the scale as it shows top controls be aware the scale actually has these controls on the side.
This is a very good price for a well designed and attractive kitchen staple. This is a straightforward and user friendly item that can be up and running on your work surface in minutes. It is simple and clear to use and feels robust and reliable to a novice cook. Intuitive controls and sensible, ergonomic approach.
High quality Salter product. Hygienic glass platter, weighs up to 5kg for kitchen worktop use. Powered by two button cells (supplied), the scales can be switched between units and zeroed for tare weighing. I measured the accuracy against a known SI calibration steel block of 1kg mass and found it was accurate to within 2g, so not bad.
I always like Salter products because they are an established brand with excellent customer service. For example, my old bathroom scales from Salter were replaced by them without quibble after many years of use when they developed a fault. They sent out a new, improved model at no charge to me.
These kitchen scales are very modern looking and fit in very well in my white kitchen. I love the white glass as it seems to me to be more hygienic than plastic, although of course there is a greater likelihood that they could become damaged. Fortunately they have a 15 year guarantee so, unless I drop them on the floor, in which case plastic ones would also do badly, I imagine that these will prove very long lasting.
The platform is larger than my previous set of square Salter kitchen scales which does help when you need to weigh things in a large bowl or plate as you can sometimes struggle to read the display with the smaller ones. I actually have three sets of scales now, these ones are now promoted to my kitchen whilst the others will perform as animal food weigh scales (doggie household).
An attractive electronic scale that looks and feels well made. It has a black plastic base (which shows up all fingerprints), a wipe-clean glass top and a good sized display that is easy to read thanks to the 2cm (approx.) high digits, although the unit choice is in a smaller font. It takes two CR2032 batteries, which are supplied and already in place, needing just a plastic strip to be removed before it is ready for use.
Switching between g, ml, oz and fl oz is simply achieved with the touch of a finger, as is use of the tare function that makes it easy to add more ingredients to a bowl. It possible to switch between measuring liquids and solids using the tare function and then the unit selector although as you need to make an adjustment if weighing any liquid other than water this has limited use. Note that there is a second or two delay when using the buttons and you need to allow for this when using the tare function or you could end up inadvertently turning the scale off.
It is practical for the majority of cooking and postal needs, weighing up to 5 Kg in 1g increments or 5 litres in 1ml steps. The simple, sleek black and white design should suit the majority of kitchen schemes and its slim profile ensures storage will not be a problem, which is just as well as it is protected by a 15 year guarantee so will be around for quite some time.
These are cool looking scales that seem to measure accurately.
The scales have a hygienic, easy to clean glass platform.
The scales have smooth touch-sensitive buttons.
The maximum capacity on these scales is 5kg / 11lbs / 5 litres / 175fl.oz.
The display is in Imperial and metric measurements.
The graduations of 1g / 0.1oz / 1ml / 0.1fl.oz.
It has a nice clear LCD display.
Forget the liquid measuring function.
The scales work off an AAA battery (included). So you are up and running straight away.
I like these kitchen scales.

It’s not an expensive scale, so you can’t really complain. It works fine and has all the features you need for a basic scale.
The buttons are fiddly and take some getting used to. They’re sort of “capacitive” rather than a tactile rubber or clicky and there’s a delay after you press. Once you’re used to it, it’s fine.
The liquid function is…well…in my opinion entirely pointless, in the UK at least. It doesn’t know the relative density of the liquid you’re weighing, so it will be inaccurate on cream, milk, fats but accurate on water. This is because 1ml of water is 1g, so 1l is 1kg. So if you need to measure 200ml of water? It’s just 200g. That is literally all this scale is doing. But that rule only applies to water. Yes, only pure water. Google says 100ml of cream is 80g so it’s quite a notable difference. Ice cream? Hahah no chance.
Overall it looks nice, does weigh properly and the display is easy to read.
Nice round attractive basic kitchen scales which are accurate.
Relatively well made.
Buttons are a bit fiddly – but you get used to using them.
Liquid function is a gimmick – weighs only water in metric.
Decent scales but I’d look elsewhere for similar ones with better buttons.
This is a great value set of scales.
They look nice and are nice and thin so do not take up much space in the kitchen drawers.
I have used them a couple of times and they seem really accurate. I like being able to measure liquid as well as solids.
No complaints really.
Great little scale, only trouble is the display being on the top. Its very difficult to read the display when using something larger than a breakfast bowl to weigh in.
I have found these useful when breadmaking so that I can accurately measure both dry and liquid measure in the same bowl. They can be a bit fiddly to adjust and to keep turned on but they are pretty easy to use all the same.
Compact set of scales add and weigh facility and easy change from solids to liquids very useful. Very pleased with this purchase
LOVE this! sadly my xhub decided to put it in the dishwasher!!!!!! he replaced it with a SUB-STANDARD copy from Pro Cook 🙁
I now find myself buying this again…. multiple weighing & liquids too. wipe clean and pop in a draw…..
If you are looking for a simple to use scale look no further!
I am thrilled with my scales. They arrived in Amazon’s usual excellent time and well packaged too. The scales are so easy to use – the display is clear and I have no doubt very accurate. I love that you can weigh solids as well as liquids and that you can add ingredients without having to weigh them individually. They are so slim they take up no room in a drawer. All in all a great product which I would thoroughly recommend.
does its job very well, the on/off button takes a little while to get used to. useful having a programme that weighs gramms, pounds and liquids!
