Recently replaced my very old S8 with this phone in silver.
I wanted to stick with Samsung but not pay stupid money so here’s my very non techy review! Didn’t buy from Amazon BTW.
Firstly what I like about it:
Holds charge well.
Good screen size.
Easy to set up from my old Samsung.
Camera seems fine for family and holiday snaps.
Things I’m not so keen on:
Slow to charge.
Slow to switch on.
Feels a little cheap when not in case.
Screen not as vivid as my S8.
To sum up, if you want a Samsung but don’t want to take out a second mortgage then I’d say this phone is pretty decent for the price.
As a samsung fan this phone is really good. It’s fast and easy to use. I love it. I bought it during a prime promotion at a very good price although I had to wait a few weeks for it to arrive but it was worth the wait.
My daughter has been really pleased with this phone. It is fast and does everything she wants. It is quite big – which is good or bad, dependant on what you want, but not issues with the phone.
Excellent phone for a home user. Mainly used as a Libre Freestyle Diabetic sensor. Bit heavy in the pocket. It is a UK model purchased directly from Amazon UK with extended warranty.
Good value for money.
Progress is what it is. Reasonably good value compared to an i-phone and uses android, always a plus.
Like most Samsung phones this one has very good build quality and the display is amazing, same features as most Samsung phones, but it has a side fingerprint scanner (Long and thin) It is duel SIM (Not something I use)
The back of the phone is not smooth like most phones, it has many fine lines, like a file does, but nowhere as rough.
I used the smart switch app to copy from my old phone, they seem to have updated it, as it copied all the pictures from my previous phone’s memory card to this phones internal memory, resulting in two copies of each picture. (Morale of this, move memory card first)
I also opted to get the suggested screen protector and cover.
Reviewed very shortly after launch and with Launch operating system and software settings
First impressions
Slim phone, large (tall) display, The display brightness is good for a cheaper phone
The set up process is a bit of a hurdle but eventually it runs out of new accounts and passwords to set up
It works quickly, again not flagship standards but definitely OK
It works ok even on a weak radio signal
Even a few hours very heavy use setting stuff up and downloading some extra google apps only drained the battery by 15% – I’ve seen this sort of usage leave other phones down by 25%
My only immediate thoughts were :
The sides are very glossy – firm grip or phone case is needed
The Camera.
‘As expected at this price’ is probably the best description.
Specifically I tried it on a couple of low light images and it does reasonably well at ‘turn the light on ‘ levels. Even true night-photos show street-lit areas nicely but the image doesn’t ‘dig into the shadows’ quite like a 1000 phone. Which is OK for a small fraction of that
For photos of people though it had a strange quirk of producing a smoothed pastel-colour effect that looks nice until you zoom in – when it looks a bit odd to my eyes. (All filters and face tuning were checked into and were off and it still did this). Reproduction of details in other things was ok so I guess this is a software bug/feature and hopefully it gets reduced in future updates. It’s not an immediate concern as the camera / lens seem fine as the two pics I’ve posted illustrate – so over to you Samsung !
Summary: If you are looking for a speedy phone to use on the latest 5G mobile networks this could be a good choice. This mix of power, battery capacity, memory and 5G isn’t really available anywhere else at the moment. I do think the camera programme needs to turn its air-brushing-enthusuasm down a bit and hopefully there’s an update coming
