Great fun! I can’t believe we had never heard of this before! A terrific game, lots of fun and a lot of variety with the various God cards. Games are often quick and it’s really easy to pick up. Set up very quick too

I came to sing praises of Santorini. As a board game aficionado and game developer, I bought it for my 7yo solely based on reviews (only found out about the digital version from the manual, however it’s not much interest to me).
It did not disappoint, quite the contrary. It offers multiple game modes (layering on complexity with the use of god powers), and delivers on both the easy learnability and great depth, elevating it to the heights of classics like Go, Chinese Chequers etc. TBH, we’re still playing without the powers, and it’s still great fun.
The presentation of the board and game pieces is lovely, though for 30 it could be lovelier. I’m less of a fan of the character designs of the gods; I find their facial expressions irritating, and the depiction of Aphrodite & Eros could be made more appropriate for younger players – but I’m nitpicking.
The game comes with multi-lingual rulebook; for some reason, we got god cards with names in Portuguese.

Really cute game as my family and I travelled to santorini some years ago so find memories. Bought as a gift for mums birthday. Was really fun when you get the hang of it. We haven’t yet played with the advanced action cards we found them confusing. Maybe we will try again once we have had a few more goes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe object of the game is to build 3 levels for a structure and to move one of your 2 pieces onto that 3rd layer on your turn. At the same time your opponent is trying to do the same but can block you by completing the 4th layer (the blue dome). You can move up one level at a time or down as many levels as you like. However your opponent can also win by blocking both your pieces so beware!

At 2 and 3 players the games are relatively short lasting no more than 20 mins or so but the strategy is very deep.
You can play as mere mortals or add some fun with godly powers! These can range from stopping your opponents from performing actions, or adding extra abilities to yours (e.g. opponents cannot move up this turn if you did on your last turn or your pieces can place a dome on ANY level not just the 4th level and blocking it)

At 4 players you team up with the player opposite you taking one piece each. This is a lot of fun too as trying to work out a strategy with your team mate is great fun

I’d highly recommend this as it is a firm favourite with us

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersSantorini’s Tag Line is :
Learn in 30 seconds, play for a lifetime.
This is an extremely easy game to learn and play but still has the potential to go deeper on many levels.
All you need to do every turn is move your player one space and build a level of your greek villa. Thats it!
To win, you just need to get on the top of the 3rd storey of a villa!
    Simple!
But then you start thinking strategy, planning 5 moves ahead, trying to predict all your opponents future moves.
If thats not enough, you then have the ‘god cards’ which adds another element to the gameplay and allows all sorts of unpredictable situations to occur…so all your planning gets thrown out the window in a single move.
This is a great game which can be played with kids on a simple level and with adults on a more deeper level.
The unpredictability makes the game refreshing everytime you play it and you don’t need to refer to the rule book every time as the rules are so simple.

RECOMMENDED: If you like Chess, not being a serious Chess player but still like the game, a fan of Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, strategy, planning, simple rules and 2 player games!

Got this as a present for my 12 years old son (and for me to play with him). The 3D of the structure make the board game even more fun to play. It is easy to learn, easy to construct and have dozens of options and possibilities to win (due to the power cards).
Ideally for 2, but easily playable with 3 or 4.
This is now one of our ‘go to’ games when we want to reduce screen time.

I first bought this as an addition to the games I play with my colleagues during the lunch hour.
Each Deity is game breaking (but you’re all O.P so it works well) and makes for an excellent competitive edge.

Most games finish within 30 minutes but some need the full hour and it’s quickly become a favourite in the office.

I bring this he on the weekends to play with the kids and my 5yr old quickly picked up the basic game and enjoys playing against myself and his 8yr old sister and they often ask for us to bring it when we go out for a meal, the kids all playing together while it rains and the adults catch up.

A favourite in both the office and at home, I can’t reccomend this highly enough!

This is a very easy game to learn for the most part.
It plays like an abstract version of connect 4.
I’ve taught this to kids and adults and nobody has ever took more than 1 game to fully grasp the game.
Unfortunately, it really only plays well with 2 (a typical weakness of abstracts) and some of the optional god powers can be a little too good at certain skill levels.
    Good for couples and kids.

I’ve just opened this now to find the colour page is only in German and the English rules is a black and white book. Checking now it says “Language: German Version” still, a little annoyed at this as I feel it should have been displayed more prominently. Is it possible you can send us the colour booklet and pull out? Thanks

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBOUGHT THIS GAME AS IT WAS ON MY TO BUY LIST FOR AGES.

FINALLY GOT IT FOR A GREAT PRICE! 16.99GBP! WHEN IT USED TO BE WELL OVER 27GBP.

THIS IS A GAME EVERYONE MUST GET! IT IS ABOUT PURE STRATEGY AND NO DICE ROLLING OR LUCK INVOLVED.

WHAT STRATEGY WORKS IN ONE GAME WILL NOT WORK IN ANOTHER.

VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO LEARN. THE GOD CARDS ARE SO MANY IN THIS GAME THAT IT GIVES COUNTLESS POSSIBILITIES. HAVE PLAYED WITH ONLY 6 OF THEM FOR NOW AND HAVE SO MANY MORE TO GO.

THIS IS BETTER PLAYED WITH 2 PLAYERS BUT GOOD WITH 4 TOO.

THE BOARD LOOKS AMAZING AS WELL AS CARDS. THE GAME IS VERY SIMPLE BUT ADDS SEVERAL LAYERS OF STRATEGY.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL BOARD GAMERS. IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS, DOWNLOAD THE APP AND PLAY ON YOUR PHONE FIRST.

The game is fun and easy to learn ( my 8 year old beat me twice ). It seems to comes from another county as the colour instructions are in German I think but there is a booklet in English and other languages in black and white. Not a big deal and with the app for the game you don’t necessarily need the instructions anyway.

Excellent game! Works best at 2 player, but can be played with 3 (I tried once, won’t be doing it again! )
Beautiful components, and very well made. Simple rules to pick up but has a lot of strategy. Each game doesn’t take long, but there’s so much variety with the different ‘god cards’ it doesn’t get dull. I’ve played around 20 times so far and that’s just with the basic gods. Am looking forward to trying the more advanced ones.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWe tend to play this at board game evenings when the first few people have arrived and we’re waiting for everyone else. Quick to learn but hard to master, and each round takes only 15-20 mins. It’s great with 2 or 4 players (4-player is 2 teams so functionally the same as 2-player), in our experience 3-player unbalances it and should be avoided. Imagine playing chess with 3 players on the board, that’s how it feels! Beautiful board and pieces though a bit unnecessarily large in my opinion, it’s a ‘full-size’ board game box whereas they could easily have shrunk all the components 50% or more and made it more portable. Still a great game, and with the God Power cards has a lot of replayability and variety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game with short play time

The game is great in essence, it is nicely made, the builder pieces are very nicely done the buildings are nice, look good and assemble easily and the cards are beautiful, as is the board.

In the instructions it does recommend it as a two player game although it can be played with three or four, it is MUCH better as a two player game in my opinion. If you have your heart set on playing as a bigger group it is very hard to balance it out fairly.

One of those minutes to learn, months to master games it can be gripping or done in a couple of minutes, it also seems quite hard to play if you are at different skill levels, in the same way chess suffers if there is a big gap between player abilities.

A really great strategy game. I have bought this as I read the the other reviews and I have to say I’m amazed by the game.

It took us a while to understand how to play the god cards but once we did, everyone loved the game in my house. Ad because there are soany god cards to play, it won’t get boring as there are endless combinations to play with.

I can really recommend to anyone who loves strategy games

Nice little two player game, a bit like a 3D Othello. Not too taxing and kids can learn easily ~ base game made better by the god cards so games are different rather than monotonously the same each time and mean more time to master given multiple combinations. A good way to spend 30-40 mins playing through a couple of times.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI love playing board games of all kinds and this is one of the best I’ve bought in a long time. The rules are very simple. The strategy fiendishly complex, the possibilities endless. And that’s just the mortal rules before you add god powers. Each game can take as little as 10 minutes, 20 is normal, and for a very complex situation where a lot of thought is needed, maybe 35 to 40. While you are using pieces to build Santorini the 3d play really makes this an abstract game. No luck, just strategy. You can become as absorbed by this as you would in a good game of chess. But it’s much easier to get into. It’s one of those games that I’m going to be playing for many years to come without the excitement wearing off.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersAfter reading of low quality versions on BGG I was hesitant especially since this one was the lowest price of others available though different sellers.
The only negative is this is the German version so the glossy instructions aren’t in English. They’ve added the English one’s as a cheaper black and white photocopy.
The board is raised (I read of some not having this) so don’t worry about it being inferior.

A great game! I can play with my 8yr old without the god cards and she has a decent win rate. Very easy to pick up. With my partner and older children I use the god cards. This adds a lot of variety to the game. I’m not usually a fan of abstracts but this is a keeper.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGreat game at bargain price. Feels like several games in one as playing with the God Cards transforms the play style. Different combinations of God Cards means that the game keeps changing! The only con is that the English Rule manual is in black and white, which is annoying as you do need to reference initially to learn the God Card abilities and would be nicer if t was in colour. That’s the reason why I haven’t rated a perfect 5 stars!

Strangely, I have seen reviews which seem to have a colour rule manual in English. Happy to change rating to 5 stars if I’m sent out the English rules in colour!

FYI- this is the mass produced version of Santorini as oppose to the Kickstarter version. The pieces and cards are excellent quality and the only thing missing that I can think of is the sea base you might see in the earlier edition.
