The product is easy to use and dries to a firm finish over night. It also keeps usable in the plastic pot provided you keep it covered with water, so you don’t need to rush to use it up if you are short of time. I used it over several days and it was fine. Delivered promptly.
Happy with this. Came with 2 sealed bags inside the box! I only needed the one for my slabs. Keep the floor wet and then spreaded it using a brush and pointing trowel to make sure it gets into the gaps and is packed in. Within 24hrs was dry and solid. Easy to spread and a great colour. Cheaper than anywhere else I could I find it. Highly recommend
I have an extensive area of slabs of varying sizes and over the years the gap filler has just turned to dirt. I have seen this filler applied by local builders and they simply brushed it in and left it, so simple but it is not. Be aware that the filler needs to be placed into a stable gap and not too deep or you will need tubs and tubs to fill it. The preparation took ages and then the actual filling is not straightforward either.
The area needs to be wet and that is messy and then when you brush the filler into the gaps it needs to be tamped down to build it up and that was really hard going. Due to different gaps I had to make tools to press the filler firmly down and give a reasonably smooth finish, a thin builders trowel might have helped but I didn’t have one. The instructions say it will harden within 1 hour but I have not seen any evidence of that happening.
So the product is good but not as simple as you might hope, you could just scrape out gaps of different depths and simply brush it in but I doubt you will get a long lasting result.
Two stages, clean out the gaps to a regular depth and firm up base, Step 2 is brush in filler on wet surface and tamp it down to a level finish.
Took ages but hopefully will last for many years.
Easy to use. Plenty of water, sweep it into the gaps and let it set. Apart from little gaps that I missed there are no weeds coming up between my paving slabs. I’ve ordered another pack but wish they did a smaller one as I will be wasting quite a bit as my next job is smaller. Would recommend.
Used this to redo a patio which had lost most of its original grout. The key is preparation, clear all debris out of the cracks before starting, do sections at a time and keep the area wet but not soaking. I found using a cement trowel to get out of bag and filling to gaps first then using brick joiner to compact it down was a far better way to do it if you want good long lasting results. After i did this i went over it all brushing the access into the bits i had missed which levelled it all out nicely, still keeping it wet throughout.as I’m not the quickest of workers there was no time limit on using this, just made sure i used all the bag in same day,it cured quite quickly and by next day had gone hard, be careful not to leave any on slabs as it does leave marks but on whole very pleased with results.
The grouting in-between the patio slabs needed replacing. We looked at several different products before deciding on the Sika fastfix jointing compound. We were really pleased with this purchase the patio now looks 100% better than it previously did. The price of the Sika was very good on Amazon and delivered earlier than expected. The coverage was as stated it would be it so easy to do once you have removed the old grouting. Just need a brush and hand tool to compress it down. There were two of us doing it one spreading and the other compacting it into the grooves. It didn’t take that long at all once you got in the swing of it would have been quite happy to have do even more. I would definitely buy this product again and recommend to family and friends.
First time I have used this product and grouted a patio. Was very wary as lots of comments saying it dried really quick. Not sure if I was lucky with correct temp or amount of moisture but wasn’t drying as using so ideal for novice me. I bought 2 tubs, double what I thought I might need but still need bit more to finish.
I was redoing patio laid about 15 years ago so joints were bit deeper than quoted on tub.
It took about 5 days to fully set but I was happy with that as noticed few bits of over spill and could easily rub off stone. The only reason I have given 4 stars is I am not sure how long this is going to last.
As you can see in the photo. We were pleased with the end results time will tell if it lasts. The colour match was perfect. We used 3 tubs be aware it doesn’t go far and it’s a damp product. I would not brush it in as they suggest as if any product is left on the slab it will go hard and is very hard to remove. Make sure the slabs are secure as if not the compound will crack on the joint, and you will have to correct it. You must make sure the compound is very compacted in the joint. Overall we are pleased with the results just hope it lasts. Be aware don’t over order as return postage is 10 a tub as of July 2024. On the down side 2 buckets were cracked and one bag the product had lumps in when I told the supplier he said you could still use it. You couldn’t it was solid. At first we ordered one tub, it came perfect with handle to carry the bucket with. When we ordered more the tub was wrapped in plastic very silly as you could tell they had been dropped as they couldn’t pick them up using the handle. I have returned 3 tubs as was extra to requirements. It’s hard to know how much of the product you would use so I took a guess but way out. Lol. I didn’t want to have to keep ordering another tub. I will update review in a year and then we will be able to judge if it does what it says on the tub!
Fixes your patio and keeps it solid and looks great, nothing to mark down on at all. Saves time and money and you can do it yourself it is so easy to apply, saved me 1000 for our large patio area!
Really easy to use anx spread, although you must work quickly. Once set it is solid and very happy with the finish and look. Would recommend if you are looking to re joint your patio.
I have used a lot of this for my rather large patio. 17 tubs!
In the time it has taken to do this I have learned a lot about how to apply it successfully and thought I would share. I am applying the product in summer. It is June and the temperature is about 20C with intermittent showers. I do wet the area I am about to grout thoroughly as suggested. I have already sealed the paving slabs so the water runs off easily into the grooves between slabs. I run the water until the gaps are overflowing with water. Whilst I apply the grout the slabs dry out, but the bottom of the gaps stay wet and this works fine. You can work the product into a groove that is full of water or you can work it into a groove that is nearly dry – it doesn’t seem to make a difference to how it sets. In this temperature it is dry the next morning, even if it rains overnight.
I tried pouring the product out and sweeping it into the grooves as suggested, but this didn’t work for me. The product gets wet immediately and doesn’t brush very easily. Whatever ends up sat on top of the slab dries like that! Basically like sandpaper.
So I ended up taking handfuls of product and metering it reasonably carefully into the gaps by hand. Then pressing it down with my fingers, then refilling the gap and pressing down again until the gap was full and compacted. Then I brush the areas either side of the gaps clean with my hand, forcing the product along the length of the gap until it drops into the next part to be filled. This method is time consuming but gets a good result. To give you an idea it is taking roughly 1 hour per sealed bag of product with 2 bags per tub – so yes my patio will take 34 hours! Hopefully I will not have to do this again for a very long time.
I am wearing work gloves for this, but they do get impregnated with the glue that is included in the product mix, so the next morning the right glove in my case has set hard in the fingers. So buy several sets!
In the ideal situation this product may work well – i.e., the gap width and depth you are filling meets specs in the instructions. However, it’s not as easy to use as the headline description suggests (just brush it in and you’re done). Firstly, once the inner container bag is opened the instructions state you have just one hour to complete the job before the product becomes unusable. Secondly, after brushing it in you are advised to go over all the filled joints and compress the filler with a trowel or similar tool or it won’t set into a hard mix making a good barrier. Finally, headline bullet points suggests you can collect and save excess product for later re-use, which kinda goes against the earlier instruction to complete the job within the one hour before it becomes useless? The 15Kg container contains two separate bags and I used just one for my job, the instructions suggest unopened bags may be kept up to a year so depending on when it was made it might be useful the following year – or it may not. All in all I’m not sure using this product is any easier than, say, filling the gaps with a dry mixture of sand+cement then spraying with water to make it set – which is the old method I used. I won’t know how durable this product is for some months after it has been weathered, but one comment in the included leaflet was that this product should be considered useful for its ‘aesthetic appearance’ rather than mechanical properties which doesn’t bode well for durability.
I am middle-aged lady who gardens when needed – mainly mowing the lawn. After pressure cleaning the patio -not cleaned since laid 5 years ago- all the grouting between the paving slabs was blown out.
I ordered this product after reading the feedback. It arrived a few days later. The container is not large but it is quite heavy (for a little person to move about).
I spent a few hours on Sunday sweeping and then hosing down the patio then carefully filling and packing in this jointing compound in the gaps between the paving stone. The mixture was a dryer and then I expected. I did not think there was a strong smell to it. I was a bit concerned it would not pull together and set, or be enough to cover the patio (21 sq mtr. 40cm x 40cm slabs). On hindsight I could have just poured the mixture along the gaps like the Sika instruction videos on Youtube but I worked in small sections of patio and spooned in the mixture before packing it well into gap with a plastic scraper. I think because of this, I managed to grout the whole patio with one tub but I could have saved a lot of time if I had poured, swept and packed the mixture. I was just not confident I could work fast enough on a big area.
You do need to make sure the patio is wetted well before working with the mixture. I kept hosing the sections down as I went along. I was worried excess water would affect the setting of the mixture but it does not. I kept the unused mixture airtight/moist and only took out what I needed on each section. I ended up with mixture to spare.
After finishing the job, I could not resist checking every couple of hrs to see if the mixture was hardening up. It got to the point I was convinced I had got a bad tub as the mixture was loose and soft in the gaps for a few days. A day of heavy rain on the Mon probably did not help. I was relieved the mixture did not get washed away. There was a very fine film – like petrol – that came off the mixture in the rain but it did not seem to leave any noticeable residue on the paving slabs.
In total it has probably taken a week for the mixture to go hard (weather was average UK spring temperature 10-15 degrees a few days of rain) and now it seems fine and I am pleased with the outcome.
If you have not used this stuff before, my advice would be to follow the videos and have patience. It is not cheap but it is easy to use, very little mess and the results look good. Follow the instructions especially the gap size minimum and wet the patio before hand. I think I will get many years without having to worry about scraping weeds off the patio joints.
Re-pointed rear patio area . So easy to carry out. I will no longer mix mortar by hand. The material is not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and what you get is brilliant.
This review is in two bits. The product and the supplier/delivery.
I’ve used this product a number of times and it’s considerably easier to use than cement based mortar joints albeit considerably more expensive. The main benefits are that you can use it in the wet – on fact it needs to be be wet to work, it cleans up well without sticking too much to the paving slabs and the speed of use is fast thus saving valuable time.
I find that it takes two or three uses of a pointing tool to get it packed down hard enough to make a solid job. If you don’t do this then jet washing can blow it out or at least partially blow it out.
Setting time is temperature dependent. I don’t use it below 10C because it takes a few days to go off. However above that then it’s hard within a couple of days.
Where I do get problems is when there are trees around because the spores tend to stick to the compound and it goes dark pretty quickly, hence the need to clean it a couple of times a year.
Overall, a simple solution to grouting.
Now, the bad which is the delivery and packaging. I bought this from Amazon but it was a 3rd party seller. No issues there but they were badly packaged and when they arrived I put them aside not noticing that the heavy handed delivery company had knocked one so badly the box was damaged. Which was pretty easy to do because the supplier hadn’t packaged them well.
Unfortunately, that knock had also damaged the inner pack thus exposing the product to air and thus when I got to use one of the units it was already hard. Too late to make a complaint unfortunately because I never checked on delivery.
Good product, promptly delivered, competitively priced. However, it says on the box 20 m^2 coverage. Obvously this depends on jumber of joints and the spacing. I was jointing indian stone flagstones. I reckon I am getting about 14 or 15 m^2, so I am having to go back for more. Not finished yet.
I bought this a bit late to use it this year as the weather’s too cold for me to kneel in the garden squishing this between my flags. The stuff I used earlier in the year set like a good one, lovely effect.
Provided you have the width and depth necessary this product works a treat. I used it to repoint a 20 square meter Indian Stone patio after some of the original pointing had failed after removing the old pointing with a 9ins grinder fitted with an appropriate thickness blade I jet washed the whole surface and joints then brushed in about half a bag at a time, (I used 3 of the 4 bags in total)of the joint compound into the still wet joints and slabs then pressed it down firmly and refilled flush where necessary with a round nose hand towel flattening to a smooth finish i then gave it a light brush with a soft hand brush and left it for a couple of days to set hard. After a couple of days I gave it a good sweep then vacuumed up any remaining loose grains before sealing with a really good Thompson clear patio seal
Comes in 2 bags for use in small batches as this has a working time of 1 hour but any not used can be placed in water and that will last about a month. Have never done that to be honest.
Simple to use spread into gaps with a brush, tamp down with a bricklayers jointing tool (I used a round wood dowel in different diameters as my paving isn’t even) and wait for it to harden. Can be used in the wet as well. Once semi set you can brush off the excess and leave overnight. Job done.
Several colour options available too.
I used this product to re-point my patio slabs, I used Dark Grey and I am very pleased with the end result. Easy to use and has set rock hard.
Fairly easy to use for a complete novice. I had huge cracks and hairline cracks In my paving and places where the mortar has come out completely. Looked a mess. Tried to use a special device to put it in but couldn’t do it, in the end I wore some rubber gloves and used my hands and fingers and a stiff little brush. All cracks filled in beautifully and I’m very pleased with the results. Thought there’d be far too much because it was a big heavy tub but I used all of it and might get a bit more.
So easy to use and does the job. I gave up with a trowel and used thick rubber gloves to compact it down then brushed in final layer with handbrush and so much easier and quicker to do. Looks great too very pleased!
Used to point the patio, very easy to use ,just damp the aera brush and tamp down then brush over and tamp the one final brush off and done , very easy to do . Looks like a wetish sharp sand when fully dry, matches well with the flag colour , decent storage tub for after lol
Great product easy to use sets hard after a day or so
Used to grout patio area, only time will tell if it is long lasting
Having read the instructions before using, it still took a little while to get used to the application. Once mastered, the product is easy to work with and gives a very good finish. Overall, very pleased with the product and the end result on my patio.
Brilliant product fills the gaps between the paving slabs. Now no weeds
Take your time when doing it
No wastage and spreads easily
Bought 2
1 was that good half dry.
Picked up free of charge
Needed this urgently and it arrived quickly so saved lots of stress. Great product, highly recommend.
Use this for all my patio pointing repairs. So easy to use and doesn’t get messy. Good choice of colours too
I followed all the instructions, raked out all the old cement grout. Swept in the fast fix and compacted. It was touch dry in 48 hrs and fully hard in a few days. I ordered dark grey, I wouldn’t say it was the colour I was expecting. More a sandy colour. Also I would suggest meticulously clearing up any loose material as it can stain the paving slabs. But overall pleased with the result.
I followed the instructions and the product was excellent for replacing mortar in-between crazy paving. No more muddy spots.
The only negative was the smell which affected me slightly, being asthmatic. However I would use it again. I had positive comments from family when they viewed the garden. Very pleased.
Worked well for me. No mixing required. Followed the instructions. I used a stiff broom to brush it into the gaps but it’s important to pack it in well. I used a selection of scrap bits of wood of different thickness to do this. Eg brush some in, push/pack it down, brush in some more, pack again and smooth the surface. Used a softer brush to remove any excess.
Very happy with product. So easy to use. Great video on YouTube if you not sure best way to point up with it. Fantastic finish. Slightly on the expensive side but worth paying for a great finish
First thank you for the rapid response , arrived well packed . Very easy to use and was much better than a more expensive one . Very economical and set in no time at all. would use again and highly recommend the seller for being so fast.
Liked easy application and reasonable price. Took 36 hours to set rock hard.
No dislikes but suggest delivery to location rather than collect as it is REALLY heavy.
We used 2 purchases to do a large patio with deep 1960’s slabs. Good product!
Used this to re grout the patio. Very easy to use. Did half the patio first using it dry then used hose on fine mist to set it in (as suggested by a reviewer) which worked OK then did rest of patio couple of days later grout was wet due to having to store it by covering with water in container. This also worked well although a tad messy. Both ways worked well, any residue has been easily removed using a scaper and stiff brush. Am really pleased with outcome. Delivered when expected.
I’ve never used this product before I’d cleaned out the old cement in between the paving slabs the gap is more like 20mm than 5mm wide I used a stiff brush to brush it in to the gaps and tried to clean slabs I used an old butter knife (I slightly bend the blade and used it to push the resin in between the gaps hopefully it’ll keep the weeds etc away I keep dosing it with water just to make sure it’s fully set which I’m sure it is now 3 weeks late
Let me start by saying I’m a woman in my 40’s who has never attempted anything like a patio before. Our patio is about 45 square metres and has been down for a number of years now, but the old jointing had disintegrated and was full of weeds. I dug all the weeds down and pressure washed all the joints out so I was starting with a clean surface.
I found this product easy to use once I got to grips with it. The first bag I used in the furthest corner in case I made a bit of a hash of it but even that was fine, but it definitely became easier to ‘master’ the more bags I used. I found that using my hand (with gloves) to press it down into the joints was the easiest way.
The weather has been warm so it set pretty quickly and seems solid all round. I just need to give it all another good sweep over as I found it pretty difficult to get rid of the residue.
Be careful to wear gloves – first time I used it I thought I’d be fine without but some of the particles are so sharp I ended up with lots of tiny splinters in my hands from it. Lesson learnt!
I was a bit worried that some of the bags would be “gone off” after reading lots of reviews about the bags being solid, but apart from one bag having a huge lump in the bottom they were all fine (and I used 15 bags).
Which brings me onto my next point. Unless your patio has tiny joints you will be needing a lot more of this product than the guidelines would suggest. I should have needed 2.5 tubs based on the 18sq metres guide but I actually needed 7.5 tubs! A huge different in cost if you haven’t budgeted for that and it did make the job a heck of a lot more expensive than predicted.
Overall I’m pleased with how easy it was to use, how it looks now it’s done and the finished result. I would recommend.
Never used a ready-to-use patio tile grout before, but would definitely use this one again. Application into the joints was simple – I was using it to repair a section of patio that had lost most of its grouting, a relatively small area, so worked it in with a hand brush and grouting trowel (aka a piece of wood I cut for the job!) Very easy. Half of the full pack (one foil packet) was just right for the 8 sq metres approx that I needed to re-point. Be aware that once opened you have to use it, so I was pleased not to have to open the second foil pack. Working time of 1 hour was plenty, and it remained workable a lot longer. 24h to set in the sunniest area, slower where it was in a damp, shady corner. Very pleasing job once completed.
I have used this grout before and it is easy to use, and does the job. On this occasion both tubs arrived broken. This means any open unused grout will be wasted as it cannot be stored in its container.
This was/is my first test of this product and I’m impressed – with caveats. I’m not sure where the idea of using it on a wet surface came from, but I’d ignore it. Working on a dry surface you can use a soft brush to clear the bits of mixture that spread around. With the aid of the grouting tool, and judicious use of your figures, it’s pretty easy to apply and make neat. The stuff comes out feeling a little wet in my opinion, but that makes it easier to smooth out on the smaller crooks and nannies. Once the filling and cleaning is done, give the area a wetting with a garden hose set on mist, or something else not to powerful. The grout goes off overnight in my case to a good solid feel. My only complaint, and it’s a big one, is the storing of unused product. I’ve had two boxes so far, two bags in each, and one bag per day is about my limit. Storing the second bag overnight, I found it solid the next morning, It was opened, but it was in the box, and in a store cupboard. Might be a factor of the ‘feels wet’ comment above. Then the same thing happened on the second box. From now on I’m only opening one bag per day and keeping the other indoors. Overall, don’t be put off by some of the negative comments, this stuff is doing a good job for me.
Overall this product is easy to use and does work well. I first used it in early spring and then it even snowed during the curing process. I was worried i had wasted time and money but it did set after about a week. I then had to buy another box and I did it in better weather. It is tricky brushing it in when it is wet but I did that, then I went over again when the patio had dried to get the excess off which I patted down into the cracks again. I was pleased it seemed to get lighter as it cured fully (I chose dark buff as it was on offer!). The only thing is that I had to fill some very deep cracks with a sort of wet sand mix as otherwise it would all have fallen down the gaps under the poorly laid patio and it is too expensive to do that. So some of it is coming up where I put the mixture too high and where I didn’t put any sand it fell through during curing and left a hole. So I’m not sure how I could avoid that other than mixing a load of grout first which kind of defeats the purpose of the ease of this. I am not an expert and my job is nothing in this field so I am proud of what I achieved myself but some people will I’m sure tell me that I should not have put the wet sand mix down first. Mostly it is fine though. It would be easier if you could put in the gaps dry and then water down at the end. Also I think it is important to press it down firmly, I found my fingers and side of my hand easiest to achieve that. I would use it again but I am hoping I won’t need to for a while. It’s a shame you cannot store any as once it is opened it goes hard so you can’t go back later and correct any areas, that would have been useful. The picture makes it look darker but I did it on another patio and it definitely got lighter over time so I imagine this will too. Took only a couple of days to cure in the warmer temperatures. Does smell a bit but that passes soon enough.
Many thanks to BC Profiles for making this product available at a very reasonable price.
I first came across Sika Fast Fix All Weather back in 2007.
It is durable and easy to work with, comes in several colours, for use to point slabs, and paving,
For New, or existing paving.
Preparation is key, by power washing existing paving to remove loose pointing, and moss,
used a soft brush to work into the joints, then used a pointing trowel to compress the fast fix, to finish off,
There is plenty of instruction on how to achieve the best results, both on the box, and on a leaflet inside.
You don’t feel rushed using this product. two sachets in each box. You can brush it in when wet as well.
I find temperature can affect the cure time, if below 4 degrees, then can take 7 days to cure.
Would only use above 4 degrees.
It really is easy to use, effortless, and quite therapeutic when moving along with the brush and trowel to finish off.
In photos above, the first photo shows the paving prepared, power washed off, ready to brush in the fast fix.
The second photo shows the paving with the mix brushed in and trowelled up.
After a seven-day cure I would use Sika paving seal to finish off application by paint extension roller. I shall probably send a review on that product and show the finish in a couple of weeks time weather permitting.
I watched a youtube video and then followed the instructions on the tub. Our patio is Indian sandstone and I used the dark grey.
I am pleased with the results. I sat on a patio chair and bent over to both prepare and point as I cannot kneel. I have never done anything like this before. I don’t hurry and I do a bag each day. I have more than half finished, but have more to do on our large patio. There has been no problem finishing a section and doing more another day. I always filled each section to the top, compress with the trowels and refill until compacted, full, and level.
My pics show part of the patio before I started (in fact parts were worse and had weeds growing out of the gaps). I ensured I removed all that before I wet the area with a watering can and start filling. I had cleaned the patio before I started removing the old grout. My photo shows the tools I chose to use. In addition I used a watering can, a brush and a hoover.
I started tipping the mix out which was how it was done in the utube video I watched. Then moved to using a soil scoop as I found that easier for me, and involved less sweeping. Each to the way they find easiest. I left the mix in the bag and scooped it out and used the scoop and the trowels to compact and finish. I found using the trowels gave me a flat, level finish. I tried not to sweep the grouted bits (but it didn’t seem to be a problem if you sweep gently and repeatedly). I did the sweeping after I had used up each bag of mix.
I’m happy with the result. I hope the grouting will last a few years but only time will tell. I couldn’t find anywhere that says how long the grout lasts before it starts breaking up.
I used this product to replace some of the the crumbling Easyjoint mortar used when my patio was installed 3 years ago. I followed the instructions to the letter, in particular giving all areas a thorough soaking with water before using the Sika. It was a hot dry day, so it only took a few minutes for any standing water to drain away. I set to work, quickly brushing into all the joints, compressing with a jointing tool, then topping up and compressing again. It was a rush to get it done before the hour was up, and I was initially pleased that the process was easy. And being warm and dry outside I was expecting significant hardening by the following morning, well after the 6-12 hours warm weather setting time.
So I was aghast to find that there had been absolutely no hardening at all. It was just like coarse sand. I decided that the dry conditions were the problem, so I sprinkled water over all the joints and used my jointing tool again. the next day it was clearly starting to set, so I sprinkled more water. Happy Days! By Day 3 it was perfect ! Such a shame that a good (maybe great) product is let down by incomplete instructions. No mention anywhere of being careful in very dry conditions.
