The Hoto scale won me because of its design. It is one of the few 0.1g scales at this price range that are accurate.
Accuracy is close enough for me and better than most of its uglier competitors: it measures a US dime as 2.3-2.4g and a US quarter as 5.6g. The US Mint lists the dime at 2.268 and the quarter as 5.67. It doesn’t really register anything below 1g or a little less.
The scale has a somewhat annoying countdown of three seconds every time you turn it on or use the tare function, so you press the button and have to wait.
The scale will not connect to the app unless you open the app and then it takes a little time. I was hoping to use the app as a “memory” function, but having to manually open the app instead of it running in the background (as an option) defeats the purpose for me.
Overall, it’s a very good scale. Not perfect, but for the money, the best designed one.
I been on the Hoto purchasing binge lately. All their products are phenomenal quality. As for the scale, they are very solid and compact. Seems to be also very accurate within maybe tiny margin here and there. But will do for kitchen use.
This one does though, and everything is pretty simple and straightforward. Except for the app, which is a shame… After about 30 minutes and multiple attempts, I did actually get the scale to pair with the app. However, after leaving the app and booting it back up, they were no longer connected. And so far, after hours of trying everything I could think of, along with their troubleshooting suggestions, I have been unable to get them to pair again. And just one other thing. You will need to provide the 3 AAA batteries needed to power the scale. To those that do get this though, you might also notice that, in the front right hand side of the box, there is a little compartment built into the cardboard that 3 AAA batteries can fit in perfectly. So, maybe they did include them once before, or maybe it’s just a coincidence. It doesn’t really matter that much though, lol.
Exactly what I needed. Love the scale..just the right size for a kitchen scale and very user friendly.
Works well, and is simple to operate. Display is clear and everything has worked normally after a few months of use. Knob is a little annoying to use for control at times, but no major issues with it other than accidentally changing modes or turning it on occasionally. Was a good deal at time of purchase, but wouldn’t pay a premium for it.
I have not used the phone app or bluetooth capabilities. I only use this as a basic kitchen scale. It works great, is easy to use and mine seems to be reliable/accurate. The design is also a bit more streamlined and compact than most.
The only issue I will point out is the display, being integrated on the top surface limits what bowls you use as they can block the display. Not an issue if you are using the app/bluetooth, but for me I have to stick with smaller and/or glass bowls
It’s a great scale, I wish they made a larger version. I’d purchase that as well.
This is a mini glass scale is and the perfect size for small draws/spaces.
It’s a very accurate and reliable scale thats easy to use.
This scale is sleek and looks even better in person so I don’t mind the 3 AAA batteries it requires when it’s so cute (Batteries are not included with scale).
This scale isn’t fragile, it’s very sturdy and solidly built.
Love this scale, it helps me make delicious coffee.
The product is excellent. It is small and very accurate. Easy to use and replaced our larger kitchen scale.
On the downside, the system defaults to grams and you must adjust it every time for pound and/or ounces. You also must store it flat. Other than that, I am amazed at the accuracy and sensitivity of this item.
Great scale! Looks nice and is pretty accurate! It does fluctuate why I give 4 stars and the knob is kind of wiggly, almost perfect! but it’s not that bad and will be keeping especially for the price I got it for.
TL;DR: looks great, accurate, but some design flaws make it very inconvenient to use.
Let me just get this out of the way first: it’s a great little kitchen scale. It’s pretty accurate. It rounds the measurements up to 1 decimal place, which I loved since my current scale just gives you the whole numbers. Personally, I did not really care about its Bluetooth connectivity, so I did not use or test out that feature, but it’s there if you need it. If I were to comment on it (connected kitchen or bath scales), in my opinion, while it might add some degree of convenience, it is pretty much negated by the time aspect (it’s quicker to enter your values manually into a spreadsheet or an app of your choice), plus the privacy and security concerns. The scale looks good, which is the primary reason why I bought it (and probably the reason you’re considering it). I’m one of those people who justifies paying a bit extra just because of the looks. But I don’t like when the looks sacrifice functionality, which I think is the case here and it’s why I’m returning it. It’s surprisingly difficult to keep clean. The top is glass (or glass-like material) and it shows smudges, oils, and water residue regardless of how well I cleaned it. I was keeping a microfiber cloth handy to wipe it down, but just by it’s nature of being located in the kitchen, it’d get visibly “dirty” basically daily. It takes a few (4-5?) seconds for it to power on, with a little countdown once you hit the power button. The power button/rotary knob itself is attached to the base, which is pretty sensitive to any movement. To switch your units or to zero out your measurements, you need to physically interact with the button/knob (pressing or rotating it) and it messes up the measurements for a good second or two. The screen being a part of the top means you’re limited to the size of containers you can use, since basically anything larger than a ramekin would cover up said screen. We measure out our dog’s food, and the bowl covers the screen completely, rendering it unusable.
I mean, those are just annoyances, frankly, and you can have a workaround for literally every one of those (use a different bowl/container, or use a built in Bluetooth functionality to see the screen if it gets covered, as an example). But as you’re thinking of ways around these shortcomings and inconveniences, you start to wonder why do you even bother to structure your life around a kitchen scale, lol.
Anyways, if you don’t care about any of it, the scale is not bad, but it didn’t work for me.
While the glass was a bit less black than expected and the base a bit thicker than envisioned, the simple intuitive control and crisp display are stunning- haven’t seen anything like it before. It uses replaceable triple AAAs (another bonus as lithium ion degrade over time) and it pairs via Bluetooth to allow you to update the firmware as needed. This also allows you to unlock some neat pour over features. Very impressed by this brand- just ordered the Hoto Laser measure because of it.
