This is great with the longer handle, the length of most of them are too short
And have trouble getting up from a knee pad.
Very sturdy and does not bend
Bought this and instantly bought the matching trowel.. Both very strong and durable….had them a few months now. As an elderly gardener they give me so much more leverage and power. I see they are popular with other members of the household too! They turn a chore into a near pleasure….and you can do so much more without kneeling.
I purchased this spear+Jackson long handled fork as an experiment and I’m so pleased I did. I’ve had a double knee operation and as a result I found i couldn’t kneel and also finding it difficult to bend. The handle is just the right the length for me, I’m just over 5ft. It’s strong enough to dig the deep rooted weeds as well as the smaller ones. Very impressed and would highly recommend. Saving up now to purchase the trowel.
Found to be very useful as find it hard to bend or kneel due to osteoarthritis. Nice to be able to go in the garden when I feel like it to do weeding etc.
Really good hand fork . Just what you need when you are unable to bend , or do not want to dig with a large fork . It is very sturdily made the forks are the same . I thing it is really good value for money
I bought one of these a while back and now I have bought them again for my customers. It is a very handy between plant weeding fork to save bending down. Great product and good quality.
This fork is really sturdy & easy to use. I bought this as I was having trouble reaching the middle of my raised bed & this is perfect for the job. Made weeding easy and not the back breaking chore it used to be.
Would definitely recommend
I have used this little fork over and over again since purchasing it, and don’t know how I managed without it. Ideal for working in the border around your plants.
In all honesty it’s impossible to write a review so early after purchase, but initial impressions are good. Easy to use, the handle length is good and comfortable, only time will tell if it’s robust enough to stand the real rigors of use…I do hope so……looks and feels great so far!
I was not sure about this hand fork as I was replacing a favourite, very old, four-tined fork, but this is just great, easy to use (I prefer the long handled forks overall, I just find them easier to use than the little handled ones) and even more efficient than my old one.
Ideal and just what I needed as I have issues bending. These are good sturdy forks and trowels by Spear and Jackson with a 10 year guarantee. I am very pleased with my purchase.
I have had one of these for over a year. When a friend saw me using it in my garden immediately said I could do with one of those. I went to Amazon bought another one and he is one happy gardener .
Thought I’d go for a top brand rather than a possibly inferior generic product. Glad I did. It looks and feels good and passed its first practical tests with flying colours.
I was struggling clearing an area of grass for a bed. Once I got this fork, the extra length of the handle made it so easy to lever weeds out. Wish I’d had this years ago. Money well spent.
This is an excellent gardening tool. I am not as young as I used to be (who is?) and I find the longer handle makes gardening much easier. I Like it so much my husband bought me the matching trowel which I find as useful as the fork.
Best garden implement ever – but .. How do I get another of these under guarantee? My existing one broke today – the middle prong snapped off. It says on the handle that it has a 10 year guarantee.
The extra handle is very useful if you are old and your bones are a little stiff, as you don’t have to bend as far also you can get under bushes etc to weed.
Anybody who has dealt with bindweed (convolvulus) in the garden knows that the only practical tool for removal is the hand fork. It allows you to ease out the whole root without snapping it off. Even the slightest piece of root left in the ground will rapidly grow a new plant. The same is true of dandelions and similar perennials with deep taproots. There are specialist tools on the market, but I’ve never had much joy with them.
This long-handled fork is the perfect tool for getting in amongst heavily planted borders, without trampling your precious plants. It’s made of hardwood and polished stainless steel – clearly designed to last a lifetime (a ten year guarantee is printed on the handle). It also has a leather strap for hanging up in the shed. All this for a remarkably modest price.
My only slight quibble is that natural colours blend in with the background, making it very easy to lose tools in the undergrowth. Normally I would prefer garish colours, but this offer was too good to miss.
Purchased along with its contemporaries, the trowel and cultivator, this well made steel weed fork is light to use, but very stable and strong. Wooden handle is easy to grip, and it cleans off after use really quickly.
The hanging tag is useful for hooking up out of the way after use.
As with the trowel & cultivator, the size is exactly the right size for using on raised beds and borders. Comes with a ten year guarantee.
I’ve been using Spear & Jackson tools for years and they’ve always been well made and reliable, and I’m really pleased with the quality and the price of this item.
I have used the non-stainless version of this for years and find it excellent, so I bought two of these as presents.
The extra length would help the infirm, but it is also good for the able bodied – reach to the the back of a bed or the bottom of a deep hole, extract compost from a compost bin, and move less often when kneeling to weed.
It’s strong, but it could break if you used all your force to lever something – it’s not a crow bar!
Spear & Jackson’s good reputation is maintained by this quality tool. Well made, comfortable handle, good reach. The loop is useful to hang the tool visibly in the garden shed! It is not possible at this early stage to comment on its durability, but first appearances indicate that it will be a tool in our garden for many years to come. My only criticism is not with the tool but with Amazon’s packaging. I ordered this hand fork and the companion trowel at the same time – they arrived in separate large boxes with far more packaging than was necessary.
