This is easy to use, effective on a range of different blades – secateurs, shears and a lopper so far.
Their cutting immediately improved, so less stem/twig damage.
Really useful for between services for tools, and I’m sure would work equally well for household knives – just haven’t used this for these ye

Have used it to sharpen some lawn edge shears and they seem better after. Purely sharpening the shear blades would not have been enough – I also tightened the bolts holding the shear blades. Now the shears are back to fit for purpose!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have a lot of pruning shears and loppers I use in my garden. Last summer I had noticed that a few pairs were getting a little blunt, and making the job slower and harder. I already have a sharpening tool that I use for my kitchen knives, but I didn’t like the idea of using it to sharpen my garden tools with. So I set about trying to find a smaller more hand held sharpening tool for them and I found this.

Spear and Jackson make good quality products, and at less than 4, this tool was just what I was looking for. It is lightweight, easy to hold and feels comfortable in the hand. I have to admit it took me a moment, and a little playing around to figure out the best way to use this, and the right angle to sharpen each tool. Once I figured it out it was plain sailing.

With a few swipes back and to, along each cutting edge of the pruners and loppers, the blades were finally sharp again. What a difference it made!

I would highly recommend this product to anyone struggling with blunt garden cutting tools. A small inexpensive tool, that is a must for every gardener out there!

Versatile in as much as it can be used on a variety of blades. Reasonably effective and good value for money though probably doesn’t do as thorough a job as a professional with more expensive equipment.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this mainly to sharpen my garden secateurs but have found it invaluable for shears, scissors and knives. Easy to use and comfortable to hold. Would make a good present too.

I bought this with a sickle. The sickle wasn’t a great buy, but this sharpener is close to the best I ever used with a sharpening point for all sorts of blades. The handle has a secret compartment with an oil bottle in it!

I have many pairs of secateurs which needed to be sharpened. This tool is perfect. Easy instructions show which part of the tool to use on what sort of secateur, lopper, pruning knife etc. Simple to use with splendid results. Delighted!

Really good all in one sharpener, comfortable and safe to use, could do with better explanation for how to use for angles and what area does what type of blade

This is a cracking little tool which has got a good few pairs of shears, secateurs and loppers back into commission in the garden after also sharpening the knives in the kitchen. To return hundreds of pounds worth of tools to a useable condition, has made this 5 purchase an excellent investment.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI was a bit wary of getting a sharpener because I’ve never sharpened anything before, but with a shed full of blunt tools I thought it was worth a try! There’s a few different sharpeners on this, my understanding is it gives different positions for best way to sharpen each tool. In reality I just use whichever sharpener feels most comfortable for the tool I’m holding. Probably not doing it quite right but I have been able to sharpen everything I’ve had a go at, and it must have saved me literal over 100 from not having to buy new tools so definitely glad I bought i

I was surprised by how well this product worked given the cost and that it claims to work with so many different blades. I’ve now used it on secateurs, shears, knives and scissors and all certainly seem to be sharper afterwards. It’s also quite neat in size and not a problem to keep in a pocket when working with cutting tools.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI have a number of hand tools that needed their edge restoring. I’ve used this to work my way through them and they have all been left much sharper. The long armed loppers went from being blunt and very hard to use to being much sharper and able to cut without undue force. Definitely a good move – recommended.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersArrived promptly and well packaged. This product was easy to use – with 2 sharpening points for different blades. The handle is comfortable and the knuckle guard works well. Arthritis means my hands don’t work as well as they used to but I was able to handle this tool easily. I used it to sharpen my collection of secateurs and it worked really well. I wish I’d bought one ages ago.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGot this as my wife’s gardening tutor said we really should sharpen our garden tools rather than just buy new ones when they go blunt. So we spent a morning with this sharpening old secateurs, shears etc until they can cut paper. It works – recommended.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI find this very good value. As others have commented the instructions are a bit cryptic – but there were instructions with my purchase. Basically the sharpener by the handle is for knives, so you stroke at 90 degrees to the handle, which makes a comfy grip. the sharpener at the end is for things like secateurs. There are also mini whetstones on the edges for finishing off. A nice touch is a felt sponge which screws into the handle wherein you will even find a little bottle of oil. Neat job.

Seems to sharpen quite well ,I have used this type of sharpener before and it does a reasonable job easy to store in a tool bag or in an organiser tool bag [also found on Amazon] small oil sponge in handle comes in handy for for cleaning blades before storing them away.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this item along with the hedge trimmer.I wanted to keep the edge on the trimmer up to scratch. Well it arrived all done up in its packaging.I opened it up and found that it was defective, the plastic casing was split. So off it went back to the supplier on the following day or so.Got a replacement item in perfect order.Tried it out on a pair of pruners,no use trying it out on my new hedge trimmer that was already quite sharp, but with just a few strokes of the sharpener the pruner came up sharp—very good. Again it is a name I know “Spear & Jackson”

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this to sharpen secateurs without having to take them apart. They arrived, I had a perfunctory rub and they seemed to work. Unfortunately the puppies stole them and proceeded to sharpen their teeth on them. I can confirm that their teeth are sharper and whiter than before, but the sharpener has been broken down to its various components. I am still composing my letter to Spear & Jackson to ask if this could be a warranty issue.
